Volmalric: Intimidate: (Close-Mental-Stun-2D): [4d6 = 19]
Pict Warrior - Toughened 8: Nooo!!!!
Pict Warrior - Toughened 8 runs off screaming.
The mightee Slumbara hacks off the warrior's arm at the shoulder. It drops to the ground and tries to crawl away on its own. Slumbara steps on it to keep it from moving, but evidently the bastardly thing is incredibly strong and tosses him off with a quick elbow pivot.
Headdress Wearing Warrior: That was incredibly rude of you.
Slumbara: Your arm is the one that is rude
Headdress Wearing Warrior: I'm afraid I will need to do something rather unpleasant now.
Slumbara: It has ruined my plan
Headdress Wearing Warrior drops to the ground, lifeless.
Volmalric: Gotta hand it to him for that arm strength, though
Slumbara: As unpleasant as your breath?
Slumbara: Aw, he died before my sick comeback
Volmalric: Well, he's no longer breathing
The two remaining Picts scream in terror and attempt to flee from the cave.

Slumbara: Melee 2EXP/2FOC Successes = 2 [2d20 = 12]
Volmalric: Observation Successes = 1 [2d20 = 21]
Volmalric: Slumbara, one of your heads ran that way
Slumbara: If they pay for pict heads, they must pay more for fancy pict heads
Volmalric glances around to take stock of the villainous lair
Volmaric ascertains there are alcoves and mummified remains in them. You seem to be in a large burial chamber.
Meltam Perandus: Lore 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 2 [2d20 = 18]
Meltam Perandus: Where would they hide treasures?
Slumbara checks the dead fancy pict for anything of value

Slumbara: Awareness - 8 Successes = 1 [2d20 = 21]
Slumbara: Observation 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 1 [2d20 = 18]
Slumbara notices the warrior's head is easy to cut through, and then discovers there is no head inside the headdress. He feels cheated.
Slumbara thinks for a moment
Slumbara cuts off another pict's head and puts it into the headdress
Volmalric: Looks like he lost his head in front of you
Slumbara: Melee 2EXP/2FOC Successes = 0 [2d20 = 33]
Slumbara: Melee 2EXP/2FOC Successes = 2 [2d20 = 18]
The treasures might be buried in the canopic jars and other such sundry items with each corpse. You are not convinced this place would have much wealth.
Volmalric: I'm filled with unease. We should kill that last Pict and make our way back to civilization
Slumbara: ok, I will be right back
Slumbara: runs after the last pict
Slumbara: Athletics 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 2 [2d20 = 18]
Slumbara runs after the last pict
Slumbara runs down the last Pict, he notices the Stone Warrior throne is empty, it looks like Mr. Stone Warrior has come up missing while you were in the cave.
Meltam Perandus: May I suggest that we egress this cave and secure the area. Either that shaman has just made a pact with something rather unpleasant, or there will be more Picts setting up an ambush. Our rewards will be found elsewhere.

Slumbara: Broadsword: (Reach 2-Parry 1-UNB-5D): [7d6 = 28]
Volmalric: That shaman didn't have a head, I suspect that whatever pact he made was made long before we found him
Meltam Perandus: I'd hate to be cornered in such a dreadful place as this.
Volmalric: Also, where did that creature you summoned go?
Slumbara chops the Pict down, but the man was standing next to the pool of water and he falls into it and sinks rapidly under the murky water, almost as if something pulled it down. Slumbara is again cheated out of a head...unless he wants to dive in after it?
Meltam Perandus: Where'ver the fancy of Mi'lord draws him to. Wherever quality carnage can be found!
Slumbara shrugs
Slumbara: Sumbara has had enough difficulty swimming on this adventure
Slumbara returns to Meltam and Volmalric
Volmalric: No head, Slumbara?
Slumbara: He fell in the water, not my lucky day for heads
Meltam Perandus: Sorcery 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 1 [2d20 = 14]
Meltam Perandus: Stealth 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 2 [2d20 = 14]
You are in the valley outside the cave. It is completely silent, there is no trace of life aside from a few rescued villagers who are running out of the valley as fast as their feet can carry them.
Slumbara: We should keep an eye on those villagers we rescued
Slumbara: They will surely die without Slumbara's protection
Meltam Perandus: They are fine. we should cross the river again before the Picts come back.
Slumbara: But if they die, who will share the tale of Slumbara's glorious victory?
Volmalric: I agree with Slumbara, we should check with them
Volmalric: I don't like the last words of that barbarian chief
Meltam Perandus: very well.
Slumbara: I am glad we all agree that the world should know of what Slumbara did here today
Slumbara follows after the villagers
The vilagers are conveniently headed back to Velitrium, which is where you ideally would head back to.
Villagers slow down as they get tired and turn around to see you following after them.
Slumbara: Hello friends, it is I, Slumbara!
Meltam Perandus: Hail and well met!
Villagers: They survived! We are saved! The large Kushite warrior and his friends saved us!
Slumbara: Rescuer of villagers and slaughterer of bad people I am paid to kill!
Villagers: Yay!
Villagers engage in much rejoicing.
Sensible Villager: By the way, we are still deep in Pict territory, and have probably pissed off several tribes of Picts.
Slumbara: Yes, we must get you safely back to your village
Kazemi (Volmalric): In my mental picture right now, they're like Sir Robin's entourage in Monty Python
Villagers engage in quieter rejoicing.
Meltam Perandus: Yes, I agree we should make a bee line for civilization!
GM: That would be a good mental image
Volmalric: What can you tell us of what happened?
Meltam Perandus: Hey Slumbara. Ill give you 5 gold for that head-dress right now.
Volmalric: Slumbara, can you check on the head that you put the Headdress on? If it's some sort of demon headdress and reanimates all of your heads and they run away, you'll not get any money for them
Meltam Perandus: Persuade 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 2 [2d20 = 14]
Meltam Perandus: This is a good deal and you should take it
Slumbara: Intelligence - 9 Successes = 1 [2d20 = 15]
Slumbara: Discipline 2EXP/2FOC Successes = 1 [2d20 = 23]
Kazemi (Volmalric): I'm torn between upping the offer to prevent Meltam from getting it, and letting it go through to prevent me from getting it
Slumbara: Intelligence - 9 Successes = 0 [2d20 = 27]
Volmalric: Why do you want the headdress, Meltam?
Sensible Villager: Well, we were abducted from our homes by Pict, who were intent on sacrificing us for some vile and horrible ritual.
Meltam Perandus: We Bossonians have a history with these savages; I'd hate to go home one day and not have a trophy of some sort.
Meltam Perandus: Persuade 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 4 [2d20 = 4]
Volmalric: Discipline 2EXP/2FOC Successes = 0 [2d20 = 37]
Volmalric: Hmmmm
Slumbara: Hmm, Slumbara thinks this is worth more than 5 gold
Tack (Meltam Perandus): 'Bossonian'
Volmalric: narrows his eyes at the Bossonian
Volmalric narrows his eyes at the Bossonian
Slumbara: Slumbara wants 10 gold
Volmalric: I seeeeee
Meltam Perandus: 10 gold, Sold!
Slumbara: Persuade 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 1 [2d20 = 24]
Sensible Villager: Can we worry about this when we are not in the middle of PIct Lands?
Slumbara holds out his hand for the gold
Villagers sets up chimichanga cart.
Sensible Villager facepalms.
Volmalric: Indeed. Let's get moving then
Meltam Perandus: Good Sensible Villager, I have only your best interests at heart. While Slumbara, Friend of Justice, is king of the fight, it does us little good to have him waving this headdresss around the forest, thus I sought to bargain it away from him before we are an even easier target.
Meltam Perandus: Persuade 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 2 [2d20 = 22]
Volmalric: What would I roll to inspect the villagers as we travel to make sure none of them are possessed and evil?
Slumbara: We can move and sell head at the same time
Slumbara: continues walking toward the village with the villagers
Slumbara continues walking toward the village with the villagers
Slumbara: You give me the gold, and you can have the fancy pict head
Volmalric: Lore 2EXP/2FOC Successes = 2 [2d20 = 12]
Volmalric: Also, what do I know of these headdresses?
Meltam Perandus: Observation 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 2 [2d20 = 16]
Slumbara: Unless anyone else will offer more than 10 gold for a fancy pict head
Tack (Meltam Perandus): (Checkingn for ambushes alng the way)
Volmalric: Observation Successes = 1 [2d20 = 21]
Slumbara looks around at Volmalric and the villagers
Volmalric: So, Meltam, you seem quite knowledgeable about Pict culture
Volmalric: I presume you've seen many of these headresses before?
Meltam Perandus: yes, if you will call it culture good Aquilonian.
Slumbara takes 10 gold from Meltam and give him the headdress
Meltam Perandus: Not of this particular vintage, each tribe carries with it different superstitions.
Meltam Perandus: I will discern more when we are not carrying trophies through hostile territory!
Volmalric: Ah, I see. Tell me, what do you know about Acheron?
Volmalric: Healing 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 1 [2d20 = 33]

Meltam Perandus: what do I know about Acheron?
Volmalric tries to set Slumbara's injured wrist and there is a snapping noise, Slumbara is now in noticable pain when he tries to do anything two-handed because his right hand cannot support any weight. Volmalric then tries to offer Counseling that "it could be worse" and succeeds only in annoying the large Kushite.
Slumbara: Thank you friend
Slumbara: I will remember this aid you have given me
Slumbara: When you are in need
Volmalric: Observation Successes = 1 [2d20 = 21]
Meltam Perandus: Friend Volmalric, I know only that we should not invite further terror by speaking of such things until we are out of this currsed place.
Volmalric: Ah, no need, you already do a great job so you do not need to go out of your way
Volmalric: Excellent, then you agree it should be burned
The group makes slow progress back to Velitrium. You hear strange bird noises and see no animals. The villagers are easily spooked and quite convinced they will all be killed by a hail of arrows at any time.
Volmalric is speaking with Meltam quietly
Meltam Perandus: It depends what an official archelogist says.
Slumbara Does some flexing to instill confidence in the villagers and boost their spirits
Villagers begin whistling loudly to keep their spirits up.
Slumbara: Athletics 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 2 [2d20 = 22]
Villagers: Ooohh! Ahh!
Meltam Perandus: Rumor has it that the Picts were once a thriving, noble civilization. You need not assume the worst?
Villagers are impressed by Slumbara's impressive physical fitness.
Slumbara: Slumbara is very strong, you will be safe
Slumbara: Picts fear Slumbara
Villagers seem very grateful for Slumbara's presence.
Sensible Villager is staying a short distance away from the other arrow magnets.
Meltam Perandus: Observation 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 1 [2d20 = 23]
Tack (Meltam Perandus): (staying aware for ambushes)
Meltam does not detect any ambushers.
It is two hours after dark when you reach the river. The Villagers are exhausted and the flow of the river is swift. There are dense clouds overhead, making visibility very poor. The moon is a blurry blot of light above you. Fog rolls off the river. Meltam knows this is unnatural, being that he is Bossonian and the Thunder River normally does not have fog.
Villagers: My feet hurt.
Villagers: I'm tired.
Villagers: I'm cold, we should build a fire.
Sensible Villager stays away from the arrow magnets.
Meltam Perandus: To survive this landscape, you must live as a savage. No fire until we cross the river!
Volmalric: Survival 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 0 [2d20 = 29]
Slumbara: Survival 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 1 [2d20 = 20]
Sensible Villager agrees with Meltam.
Sensible Villager: Based on Volmaric's survival skill, he thinks this is all "Bossonian Hogwash" and probably not anything too scary.
Meltam Perandus: Come, Villagers, do not lose heart and press on!
Based on Volmaric's survival skill, he thinks this is all "Bossonian Hogwash" and probably not anything too scary.
Meltam Perandus: Counsel 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 0 [2d20 = 23]
Villagers flops to the ground like a Brazilian soccer player and refuse to move any farther.
Volmalric: We should cross now, before the storm comes. Fog like this is nothing to worry about

Villagers is utterly convinced they are making the right decision.
Slumbara regards the river

You have no boat, the fog is obscuring the far bank, and the water seems a bit chilly.
Slumbara: Yup, looks safe to cross
Slumbara can tell the water is wet.
Slumbara: Unless Meltam is afraid
Meltam Perandus: Persuade 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 1 [2d20 = 28]

Slumbara takes a length of rope from his pack
Slumbara: Get your ropes out
Slumbara: We must keep the villagers safe

Slumbara flounders in the water a little, he sputters a bit about it being cold, but shrugs it off, swims across to the other side, but finds no trace of Meltam. Slumbara is now on the opposite side or the river from the rest of the group.
Slumbara (Shouting): I do not see him

Villagers goes to sleep. This is too much for them.

Volmalric: What was that, Slumbara?
Slumbara: No, you cannot eat any villagers
Slumbara: This head won't shut up
Volmalric: Well, it's your head, you're the one who controls what it says
Slumbara: True
Pict Head: I'll leave the head behind, with Aquilonians are stupid, thay can't tell the difference. You will be able to make extra money this way.
Slumbara cuts the talkative pict head off the chain and throws it into the river

Slumbara: Do you think he can breathe underwater?
Volmalric: Unlikely
Slumbara: Then he is dead now
Volmalric: He didn't respond while we were yelling back and forth
Slumbara: But maybe he will come back to life like my heads
Volmalric: He might have gotten swept downstream
Volmalric: I'm sorry, what?
Volmalric: Heads don't just "come back to life"
Slumbara: You tell that to my heads
You are debating Meltam's existence (or lack thereof) when you see the thrown Pict Head surface from the water.

Pict Head: Large Kushite Idiot, is this sufficient talking?
Slumbara: Can you still speak fish?
Pict Head: Maybe, I don't know what I was before I was animated. I keep wanting to run off and collect nuts though.

Slumbara eats fish with Meltam
Volmalric: I'm not really convinced that you're Meltam, first of all
Volmalric: Second of all, no, I will eat nothing from that river

Slumbara: Incorrect, the correct answer is Slumbara
Slumbara: Maybe he isn't Meltam
Meltam Perandus: I don't doubt that you were the same selfless, strong Slumbara, destroyer of Picts as seen on previous adventures.
Slumbara: Either way, he cooked a fish for us
Volmalric: Again, I do not think you should eat something that came from that river
Slumbara: And Meltam has tried to kill me before anyways
Volmalric: Has he?
Slumbara: So whether or not he is Meltam, I don't know that it matters
Meltam Perandus: Hey bussiness is bussiness.
Slumbara: Persuade 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 1 [2d20 = 15]
Slumbara: Indeed
Volmalric: Then tell me, what took you so long?
Everyone roll Observation.
Slumbara: Observation 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 2 [2d20 = 19]
Meltam Perandus: It's clear that familiarly with this terrain sealed the deal, surely had I gone on an expedition to a strange land, I'd fair simularly.
Meltam Perandus: Observation 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 1 [2d20 = 18]
Volmalric: Observation Successes = 0 [2d20 = 34]
Volmalric: I'm sorry, say again?
Volmalric is using a Hero Point
Slumbara is using a Hero Point
Slumbara is using a Hero Point
Slumbara: Observation 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 0 [2d20 = 29]
Slumbara: Ranged Weapons 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 2 [2d20 = 15]
Slumbara: Melee 2EXP/2FOC Successes = 1 [2d20 = 21]
Slumbara suddenly grabs a flaming log from the fire and wheels toward the treeline
Slumbara: He hurls the flaming log towards the treeline and in the blink of an eye, closes the distance to the treeline and makes a wild attack at whoever is watching him
Slumbara: We are under attack!
Slumbara: Slumbara will protect you!
Pict Head: Throw Rock: (Reach 2-Improvised-Stun-Thrown-2D): [2d6 = 6]
Pict Head: Broadsword: (Reach 2-Parry 1-UNB-5D): [7d6 = 22]
Slumbara throws a burning log into the treeline, then barrels after it, cutting down the man who screams in pain as the log smashes into his head. He appears to have been a soldier from Fort Tuscelan.
Several other soldiers near him scream in panic, then hastily draw their weapons to fight the Kushite Marauder who is rampaging through their midst.
Slumbara: Oh, you aren't a pict
Slumbara: Hello friends!
Volmalric: Wha---?!
Slumbara: Persuade 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 1 [2d20 = 19]
Volmalric: Persuade 2EXP/2FOC Successes = 1 [2d20 = 28]
Soldier: What the Hell? We were coming towards the sound of the shouting!
Volmalric: Hold, hold!
Sergeant: Kill it! It must be one of the demons allied with the Picts!
Slumbara: Oh, you wouldn't want to do that friend
Volmalric: He's not! He's a Kushiite foreigner!
Slumbara holds up the chain of pict heads
Slumbara: Persuade 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 0 [2d20 = 26]
Slumbara: I am very good at cutting heads off
Pict Head: He is!
Sergeant: It's a Sorcerer! By Mitra! Kill it before it can cast a spell!
Slumbara: No, my friend Meltam is the sorcerer
Volmalric: Persuade 2EXP/2FOC Successes = 1 [2d20 = 30]
Slumbara: I just swing a big sword
Meltam Perandus: Persuade 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 2 [2d20 = 13]
Volmalric: In Mitra's name, please Slumbara step back from them
Slumbara: I am just standing here, I mean I did attack that one man earlier, but you really shouldn't sneak up on people in Pict territory
Sergeant: In Mitra's name! Kill them all!
Villagers: Egads! We're being attacked!
Volmalric: We have villagers we rescued earlier and came to the river at dusk. We were hired by Captain Estarcus of Velitrium
Villagers scatter, a couple run into the river and begin screaming.
Slumbara: No friends, do not go in the river
Slumbara: Personality - 8 Successes = 1 [2d20 = 21]
Sensible Villager is drooling in a puddle, because he is incapacitated.
Slumbara: Slumbara will protect you
Sergeant: Throw down your weapons and surrender, we will take you to Captain Estarcus and he will judge if you need to be burned alive for being sorcerers!
Meltam Perandus: Observation 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 1 [2d20 = 19]
Volmalric: Fantastic! That is perfectly fine with me
Villagers in river crawl back out, shivering and with a look of frostbite.
Slumbara: "Throw" down? This is finely tuned precision weapon
Slumbara: I will gingerly hand it to you though, if you insist
Slumbara: As long as I get it back
Meltam Perandus: Healing 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 0 [2d20 = 31]
Meltam kills the soldier trying to help him.
Slumbara: Why did you do that?
Sergeant: Oh my god!
Slumbara: He wasn't a pict, I established that earlier
Sergeant: In Mitra's name!
Campaign saved.
