Volmalric: Meltam, how does this work?
Volmalric: Lore 2EXP/2FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 28]
Meltam Perandus: I don't know. I would have, but a clone of me had the moral courage to prevent me truly understanding this realm.
Volmalric looks over the stone-henge like stones for runes, symbols, or anything to suggest their meanings (without entering the ring)
Meltam Perandus: strange how the bigest hurdle to learning is ourselves.
Volmalric picks up a rock and tosses it into the circle
Meltam Perandus: Lore 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 25]
Volmalric's rock sails into the clearing and lands with a thud.
Volmalric: Are there identifying symbols on the stones or are they relatively featureless?
Volmalric picks a nearby flower and tosses it through as well
Volmalric: A bigger hurdle is being in a world which is steeped in sorcery
The stones are covered in carved runes, many of which are worn down with what looks like the passage of centuries.
Volmalric's flower vanishes from view.
Volmalric scribbles down some notes on the runes
Volmalric: Hmmmm
Volmalric: So it works on living things, but not dead
Volmalric: Or, rather, organic vs inorganic?
Meltam Perandus: I have an idea.
Meltam Perandus: Survival Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 26]
Volmalric: Mmm? What are your thoughts?
Slumbara: Observation 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 1 [2d20 = 27]
Meltam Perandus: We need to fashion a rope out of vines, recently dead, freshly picked, etc, and tie it to the stones. Then we can hop in and have a way back.
Volmalric: Survival 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 21]
Volmalric: That's a good thing to try!
Meltam Perandus: Yeah it's not a bad idea
Meltam Perandus: but I can't find the materials around here
Meltam Perandus: I wonder if we picked enough daisies, if we could make a daisy chain rope
Volmalric: Good thinking! Let me take a look. Try tying a piece of rope to a piece of that bush there and tossing it through. The rope itself might work as well
Volmalric's expert Survival sense tells him he should have a good rope and a plan for this situation.
Slumbara re-appears back out of the stonehenge like circle, hide cylinder in hand.
Meltam Perandus: Welcome back to this dimension, friend slumbara
Slumbara: You know Meltam, most men would use roses
Volmalric is in the process of working several more supple branches of the bush into a longer rope when Slumbara reappears.
Volmalric: Welcome back! What was on the other side?
Slumbara: A note
Slumbara hands the note to Volmalric
Volmalric takes the note
Meltam Perandus: Sorcery 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 37]
Slumbara: Sorcery 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 25]
Slumbara: Sorcery 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 29]
Volmalric: What else was on the other side?
Volmalric unfolds the note and takes a look at what was written
Slumbara: Hmm? I don't know, I was distracted by this flower
Slumbara: It's quite nice
Meltam Perandus: Observation 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 28]
Meltam Perandus: WHy I say that is a prety flower
Volmalric backs away from Slumbara a bit
Meltam Perandus did not even see what Slumbara had
Slumbara puts the flower behind his ear
Meltam Perandus: Thievery 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 15]
Volmalric: Huh
Volmalric: Slumbara, do you have a bear skull?
Slumbara brushes past Meltam's shoulder as he heads over to Volmalric
Slumbara: Persuade 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 0 Complications = 1 [2d20 = 36]
Slumbara: Yes
Slumbara: It was a good friend
Volmalric: Where did you get it from?
Slumbara: The river where Meltam got possessed
Volmalric raises an eyebrow and glances back down at the note
Volmalric: Oh, I'd misread
Slumbara: He was a friendly bear spirit, when he died I kept him to take him back home and mount him on my wall
Slumbara shows Volmalric the bear skull
Volmalric: Do either of you speak Nemedian?
Slumbara: Not that I know of
Slumbara: What does it sound like?
Volmalric glances at Meltam
Meltam Perandus (Nemedian): Yes certainly I do!
Volmalric: Ah! It sounds like that!
Slumbara: Also, why did you ask about my bear skull? You don't usually ask about the various heads in Slumbara's bag
Like Aquilonian, but with many more hard consonant sounds.
Meltam Perandus: Why do you need that language here?
Volmalric: Hmmm, well then
Volmalric: The note mentions "surviving the guardian of the circle"
Slumbara: I also have these
Volmalric: Which, uh, congratulations Slumbara
Slumbara holds up the severed, rotted heads of Guto and Arqiite
Volmalric: Apparently it was a difficult OH GOODNESS put those back!
Meltam Perandus: Disgusting.
Meltam Perandus: Slumbara you should throw all those into the portal and be done with them.
Volmalric: Those are NOT sanitary
Volmalric: Also, no longer recognizeable
Volmalric: We won't be able to turn them in for a bounty anymore
GM: But are they wearing face masks out in public?
Slumbara: Slumbara has already thought of this, we will find their dentist
Slumbara: So that they can be identified by their teeth
Slumbara puts the heads back
Volmalric: Judging by Guto's teeth there, I don't think he knew what a dentist was
Volmalric: But I wish you all the luck
Meltam Perandus: Ya know what, i must do science to this.
Meltam Perandus: Agility - 11 Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 18]
Volmalric: So, right, the guardian of the circle is apparently a tough fight
Meltam Perandus attempts to jump into the portal and evade all attempts at interference.
Slumbara: Observation 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 22]
Slumbara: Melee 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 21]
Slumbara: Athletics 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 22]
Meltam Perandus: Acrobatics Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 20]
All right, Meltam jumps for the Stonehenge Portal and Slumbara tackles him, but they both fall forward through it, and land...
...in a nice grassy meadow, filled with sunny flowers, beautiful butterflies, and a warm glowing sun overhead. You swear you smell hot chicken and warm bread and cheese from somewhere...
Volmalric facepalms as the pair of them vanish
Volmalric, you have seen 2/3 of the party vanish from view.
Meltam Perandus is using a Hero Point
Meltam Perandus: Sorcery 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 31]
Slumbara: OOh, how romantic
Volmalric: Meltam, Slumbara? Can you hear me? Stick your head back out here if you can
Slumbara: Observation 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 1 [2d20 = 24]
Meltam Perandus: Observation 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 3 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 11]
Tack (Meltam Perandus): (can I hear him?)
Slumbara hears what sounds like the super melodic voice of a pleasant musician singing in a way that makes the hills seem alive!
Slumbara: If the fate of the world weren't at stake, I would say we should have a picnic
Meltam Perandus: it's not at stake.
Slumbara: Oh, then we CAN have a picnic
Meltam Perandus: Who really knows when or where this is?
Volmalric begins preparing a solution that will emit a hopefully non-lethal (yet noxious) fume of gas. He leaves the reagents separate, ready to combine them at the end
Slumbara: Slumbara does not like to leave a job half finished though, so we must make sure to finish that vile servitor afterwards
Volmalric: Hmmmm, I suppose I can't just toss this through the portal, because it won't pass through
Volmalric wraps a stone in a leaf and tosses it through to see if the leaf takes the stone with it
Meltam Perandus: Lore 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 11]
GM: It does!
A stone wrapped in a leaf plops to the ground near Meltam and Slumbara.
Volmalric paces back and forth a moment and glances around for any signs of any others nearby
Volmalric: Observation Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 22]
Slumbara picks up the stone and examines the leaf
Slumbara: Observation 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 0 Complications = 1 [2d20 = 33]
Slumbara: Linguistics 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 12]
Slumbara: This must be a message
Volmalric LEAF the STONES
Slumbara: I think Volmalric is trying to get our attention
Slumbara: I think he wants us to... leaf the stones
Meltam Perandus: Intelligence - 8 Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 26]
Slumbara: Yes, Slumbara is wise
Slumbara: Come with Slumbara
Slumbara: Athletics 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 3 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 11]
Meltam Perandus: Persuade 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 17]
Slumbara: Resistance 2EXP/2FOC Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 11]
Meltam Perandus: No, you don't understand good Slumbara, this is an exit from Scholar-King's fun house
Volmalric takes a deep breath to steel himself and gets ready to step into the portal, just as Slumbara and Meltam exit
Volmalric: Oh Mitra!
Volmalric: You scared me
Meltam Perandus: We can finally be rid of that demon haunted world
Volmalric: What happened?
Meltam Perandus: nonoonono Let's go back
Slumbara: Slumbara is not an expert in these magic things, and I will not be seduced by your silver tongue
Slumbara: Explain it to Volmalric
Volmalric: What happend?
Meltam Perandus: Okay, this is a leak in this dimension. We can go back to our time and our place, leaving Deliah here. If some minion of Set has her trapped or otherwise inconvenience, that's sort of her fault; Set is a poor master in the end.
Volmalric: Did you get ensorceled again?
Slumbara: Deliah is a nice lady, we should not leave her here
Meltam Perandus: Shes a cultist of Set?
Volmalric: Yet the creature had to capture her
Volmalric: I don't think she and Set get along all that well right now
Meltam Perandus: Did you think spending one's powers freely came at no cost?
GM: He has a really good point. Look at what happens to him on a regular basis.
Volmalric: Not at all, but I do think that she's in over her head and denying Set of a prize is something Mitra would approve of
Slumbara: Also, Slumbara wants to kill that fliying snake
Volmalric: What we do with her afterwards can be up to us, rather than the Servitor of Set
Volmalric: Not to mention that the note talks about an incredibly dangerous guardian
Meltam Perandus: But there's a perfectly good, marginally more sane World through there, and we still owe Rhiveth a task, one that could keep it sane and balanced rather than degenerating into a devil-ridden magical hellscape
Meltam Perandus: This place will always be un-natural.
Volmalric: Also, as a heads up Slumbara, apparently fighting the Servitor of Set while attacking the bat tower would have gotten you killed. I think you're safe, though, because there is no more bat tower.
Slumbara: Good thing Slumbara killed all those Meltam's then
Volmalric: How do you know that the world on the other side of that portal is OUR world?
Slumbara: Or real?
Volmalric: For all we know it could be Set's world, or a world full of honeybadgers
Meltam Perandus: Whatever, I've said my peice. If Slumbara took all three of his brain-cells to write a play, sure, we can go perform it for some half-memmory of a dragon.
Slumbara chokes back a tear
Slumbara: Persuade 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 21]
Volmalric: Half memory of a dragon?
Meltam Perandus: Discipline Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 10]
Volmalric: Oh, it's undead
Slumbara: Slumbara's play is a good play
Slumbara: Very sad
Meltam Perandus: I don't doubt it is a good play. But if the audience isn't alive to hear it, did you really perform it?
Meltam Perandus: Come, there's a whole world through here that may enjoy it more.
Meltam Perandus: Persuade 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 1 [2d20 = 31]
Slumbara: Resistance 2EXP/2FOC Successes = 3 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 5]
Volmalric: The notes did suggest that this was one that invariably worked, though
Slumbara: Slumbara is not convinced by your words Meltam. The last time we smelled food in this place, we had that pancake situation, and you saw how that ended
Slumbara: The more we talk about this, the more Slumbara thinks a picnic would be a very bad idea
Slumbara: Slumbara thinks we should solve our problems with violence
Slumbara: Persuade 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 12]
Slumbara: By killing that abonination before it kills any more of my people, and then if that doesn't work, we can always come back
Meltam Perandus: It's trapped in here?
Volmalric: Wait, what's trapped in here?
Slumbara: What if it finds your exit?
Meltam Perandus: Actually it may not be, so scratch that.
Meltam Perandus: Fine very well, onward to the volcano.
Volmalric: Yeah, that's part of my concern
Volmalric: It has been trapped in here, but with Deliah in its clutches, does it have a key to escape?
Slumbara: All Slumbara is saying is that, even if you're right, the world will be a better place if we kill the big snake monster
Volmalric nods and agrees with Slumbara's wisdom
Slumbara: Also, we can take its head as a trophy
Volmalric: No
Volmalric: We leave the head here
Slumbara: But surely someone will pay us for it
Volmalric: You already have an animated head fo a bear
Meltam Perandus: Very well. I agree to this plan, but I must use the portal for about 20 minutes. Deal?
Volmalric: Anyone who will pay you for the head of a sentinel of Set is someone you never want to see
Slumbara: Oh, you need a place to do a shit? Why didn't you say so
Volmalric: Meltam, I must implore you to reconsider. That is likely to be a dangerous, if not lethal, endeavor
Meltam Perandus nods slowly to Slumbara
Volmalric: Persuade 2EXP/2FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 1 [2d20 = 31]
Slumbara: Come Volmalric, Meltam needs to go through the portal to empty his bowels
Slumbara: Persuade 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 26]
Meltam Perandus: If it makes you feel better, tie that rope around my leg
Volmalric: No, no, it's not that
Meltam Perandus: and you should be able to snag me back
Volmalric: I'm more concerned that something will snatch you up and eat you
Volmalric: Something dangerous is on that side
Meltam Perandus: It's safer there than here by a lot
Slumbara excitedly ties a bondage harness around Meltam's torso, leaving his arms and legs free
Slumbara: Survival 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 1 [2d20 = 22]
Volmalric: Mhm, then explain why the note talks about a "guardian"?
Meltam Perandus: You know, with giant crocodiles, krabs, insane animal armies
Meltam Perandus: Resistance 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 18]
Volmalric: I'm telling you, one of those things is right there
Volmalric points at the portal
Volmalric: It's in there, if it isn't the portl itself
Volmalric: We can come back here after we've killed the servitor, if that makes you feel better
Slumbara has successfully bondage wrapped Meltam.
Meltam Perandus: Toss me in
Meltam Perandus: reclaim after 20 minutes
Volmalric: What are you really going to do in there?
Meltam Perandus: I'll expain it on the way to the Volcano
Slumbara: I think Volmalric knows how pooping works
Volmalric: Y'know what, here
Meltam Perandus: He seems to not though.
Volmalric hands Meltam a pair of jars
Volmalric: It should create a blinding, noxious gas to cover your escape if you need it
Meltam Perandus: Sure
Slumbara: So will pooping
Volmalric: The fluids have to be mixed for it
Volmalric: It's also probably flammible, though, so be careful
Volmalric: And try not to go through it, because the stench lasts forever if you don't have tomatos or lemons handy
Slumbara: So you do know how pooping works
Meltam Perandus: I am about to find out.
Tack (Meltam Perandus): When the DUNE one comes out, send immediate ping.
Tack (Meltam Perandus): (please)
Kazemi (Volmalric): Plot twist: that rope harness is right between your legs and is going to drastically complicate using the bathroom
Meltam Perandus hops in.
Meltam Perandus is using a Hero Point
Meltam Perandus: Sorcery 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 31]
Slumbara watches Meltam Perandus go through the portal and begins counting
Slumbara One Kheshatta, two Kheshatta, three Kheshatta...
Slumbara: One Kheshatta, two Kheshatta, three Kheshatta...
Meltam Perandus is using a Hero Point
Meltam Perandus: Sorcery 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 11]
Volmalric pulls out some scraps from his pack to fashion a patch for his eye later
Slumbara is using a Hero Point
Slumbara: ...one thousand one hundred ninety-eight Kheshatta, one thousand one hundred ninety-eight Kheshatta, one thousand two hundred Kheshatta
Meltam feels a yank and suddenly appears at Slumbara and Volmalric's feet. Slumbara has pulled him back into the Derp-Zone!
Volmalric: Welcome back, Meltam!
Meltam Perandus: Okay, I feel much lighter and am filled with a sense of general well being and satisfaction.
Meltam Perandus: this was most instructive and educational
Volmalric: So, go ahead and explain to me, what did you do?
Slumbara: So the way it works is, you pull down your breeches..
Meltam Perandus: Onward and upward! Let us go!
Meltam Perandus: Thank ye both for having faith in me.
Volmalric packs up his hand-crafted supplies and gets up, dusting himself off
Meltam Perandus hands back the alchemic stuff to Volmalric
Meltam Perandus: Thank you, I did not need it thankfully.
Meltam Perandus: There was no great danger to my person, though there was much strain and extertion
Slumbara: You should eat more fiber
Volmalric: Excellent!
Volmalric: What was in there?
Meltam Perandus: But I want to be big and strong like Slumbara, Man of Action, Hunter Extreme. High protein is the way to go, no?
Slumbara: Do not neglect the importance of fiber
Meltam Perandus: Things to be detailed at a later date, in a different place.
Meltam Perandus: good advice!
Volmalric walks with the pair of them away from the stones
Slumbara: If you're finished here, we should head north towards the dragon's lair
Volmalric waits until they're a little ways from the stones
The group heads north, surprisingly unimpeded in their journey until they reach the foothills and finally see a giant lone volcano rising out over the hills. Given how much drastically taller it is than everything else, you can only assume that you did not see it before due to some weird-ass magical effect in this increasingly weird-ass place.
Volmalric: Meltam, we did trust you to handle that back there. You agreed that you'd tell us on the way to the volcano. Keeping one's word is important to maintain trust
Slumbara: Volmalric is correct
Slumbara: But he does seem strangely preocupied with your bowel movements
Slumbara teaches Meltam and Volmalric their lines while they are travelling north towards the volcano
Volmalric: Craft Successes = 0 Complications = 0 Possible Compliations 0 [2d20 = 20]
