Savage Worlds Ruleset for Fantasy Grounds II
(c) 2009 Pinnacle Entertainment Group.
Uriel Iscariot: Awake ye! For this day is thy day of Deliverance! Let us go forth and meet this Shaman such that we may cleanse this land!
Shelly Pearl: Well, the girls are I are going to go have some "aggressive negotiations" with the Archer gang. You think you can find Laughs-at-Darkness up on Coffin Rock on your own?
Uriel Iscariot: Yes. It will be no problem, for the Lord shall let no harm come upon us!
Shelly Pearl: That'd be nice of the Lord.
Zach Dallas: Most likely, yes
Uriel Iscariot: May he bless your way and Keepeth thy aim true
Zach Dallas: I think it might be nice to check up on the town as well. That talkative one said some things that remind me of the Reverend and I think he was the one keeping those critters out of town
TADM: The Reverend you never met?
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): yes, but the Reverend who mentioned things as if he had used Doc's machine
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): pardon, Blood Man
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): it's suspicious
TADM: Or that the Reverend was keeping them out of town by virtue of his holy-pious-kick-assness.
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): something like that
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): I'll be worried if he was overpowered and corrupted
Emma Evans: Well, best of luck to you.
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): is she pushing us for the explanation on Sam?
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): or have we already broken the news?
The Pearl gang loads up on dynamite, ammo, and fetch their horses.
GM: I would say you have not broken the news, and Emma seems to be distracted.
[w] Zach Dallas -> Uriel Iscariot: do you think we should tell her before we leave or just let it be?
[w] Uriel Iscariot -> Zach Dallas: let her be for now.
[w] Uriel Iscariot -> Zach Dallas: Derp derp were just unobservant PCs that forget all details hurrrrr
[w] Zach Dallas -> Uriel Iscariot: lol
Uriel Iscariot: Verily, thy shall bring about a new dawn, godspeed, all.
Shelly Pearl: See you in Coffin Rock preacher.
Emma Evans: Or Hell, whichever comes first.
Zach Dallas: Definitely Coffin Rock
The Pearl Gang rides out of the canyon ahead of you. It seems kind of weird that eight women are going to go "talk" to the Archer gang.
Shelly Pearl: I pick Isabella to be on my team.
Hank Archer: Well, we're hosed.
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): But you can get Doc Holliday
Hank Archer: Umm...I think he'd switch sides. He likes women and thinks Isabella is hot.
Hank Archer: (whisper under breath) and so do I.
Uriel Iscariot: Aight Mr Dallas,
Uriel Iscariot: Lets go meet this joker and put these Bloodmen to rest
Zach Dallas: Sounds like fun to me
GM: MacVellian mutely follows along behind, completely oblivious to the world around her.
Zach Dallas: Sounds like a plan
Uriel Iscariot: Notice [1d6 = 5]
Zach Dallas: checking for suspicious tarps in the area
Zach Dallas: Notice [Critical failure!] [1d4 = 1]
Zach Dallas: check
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): SNAKE EYES
GM: No one finds any traps in the area, but Zach Dallas finds a plant that he determines is a rare medicinal herb. He decides to collect some for himself.
Uriel Iscariot: Kn Occult {+2 Honey Vial} [1d6+2 = 13]
Uriel Iscariot: Whats this you have found?
Uriel Iscariot: Surely the tainted earth is trying to get thy naieve side!
Zach Dallas: Medici---what? Isn't that the wrong skill?
GM: Your mastery of Occult things does not provide any insight into the nature of the plant.
Uriel Iscariot: Checking if it was something that doesn't grow...naturally.
Zach Dallas: Well, it hasn't bitten me yet
Zach Dallas: I figure I can put it on your wounds when you get injured
Zach Dallas: be a team player, you know?
The group wanders around for a couple hours, it is mid-morning when you find a narrow footpath that leads up the side of the huge coffin-shaped outcropping.
Zach Dallas: Persuasion [1d4 = 6]
Uriel Iscariot: Notice [1d6 = 4]
Zach Dallas: Notice [1d4 = 9]
[w] Zach Dallas: do I have any clue what the medicinal herbs are for?
Uriel Iscariot: General stuff yes, new place/footpath
This area seems much more "normal" than what you have seen lately. The shadows are not as long here and the rocks look more tan than blood-red.
Uriel Iscariot: Well now, how do you propose we find this spirit talker there Mister Dallas?
There is also no sign of any unnatural creatures around Coffin Rock.
Zach Dallas: I suggest heading up to the plateau
GM: If you want to ascend the footpath, you will need to leave your horses behind.
Uriel Iscariot: Well, now, before we go ahead and get exhausted, lets have a drink shall we?
Uriel Iscariot: Elemental Manipulation
Uriel Iscariot: Faith {+2 Conviction} +2 (Novice Power Penalty -2) [1d10 = 9]
Uriel Iscariot: Create some water
Zach Dallas: ties horse to a secure rock type position with food nearby
Uriel Iscariot: Hrm......
Uriel Iscariot: Look for totems, wards, etc, anything that a shaman would use to stake his turf
Uriel Iscariot: Notice [1d6 = 4]
There are no visible signs that a shaman is in the area.
Zach Dallas: Notice [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 5]
GM: Still nothing...
Uriel Iscariot: Aight then, I suppose we best listen to those ladies.....Good Lord Zach, quit lookin at nuthin there,
Uriel Iscariot: Up the path we go
Zach Dallas: But
Zach Dallas: BUt
Zach Dallas: I'm looking at you....
It takes about three hours to follow the narrow winding trail up. In some places it is more of a climb than a walk.
GM: Vigor check for Uriel, two Vigor checks for Zach.
Uriel Iscariot: Vigor [1d6 = 8]
Zach Dallas: Vigor [1d6 = 5]
Zach Dallas: Vigor [1d6 = 5]
You reach the top of the plateau without any incident, although you are a little short of breath, given that the top of Coffin rock sits about 7500 feet in the air.
Uriel Iscariot: Environmental Protection
Uriel Iscariot: Faith {+2 Conviction} +2 (Novice Power Penalty -2) [1d6 = 5]
Zach Dallas: Can I smoke some of that?
Uriel Iscariot: Whew....
Uriel Iscariot: Yes you can my son....
Uriel Iscariot: Environmental Protection
Uriel Iscariot: Faith {+2 Conviction} +2 (Novice Power Penalty -2) [1d6 = 10]
Uriel Iscariot: Verily, this is the breath of life.
GM: So Uriel gets 1 hour of Environmental Protection and Zach gets 2 hours.
Uriel Iscariot: Do yourself good and say yer prayers tonigth Zach, for he hath blessed thee with his grace against the elements
Zach Dallas: Amen
GM: Notice checks
Uriel Iscariot: Notice [1d6 = 5]
Zach Dallas: Notice [1d6 = 10]
About fifteen minutes after completing your ascent, Zach notices an outcropping that seems odd. He walks closer to it and gets a whiff of clear smoke. Then he notices a leather hide stretched between two rocks, coveriing a hole in a boulder.
GM: As in "smoke that you can smell, but cannot see"
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): ok
Zach Dallas: Hello, in there! Is anybody home?
TADM: Sort of like Natural Gas with the additives they put into it in the US.
Uriel Iscariot: HRM
A rolling laugh answers you, then the leather hide is pulled aside and an Indian medicine man steps out.
Uriel Iscariot: Notice [1d6 = 4]
Zach Dallas: Notice [1d4 = 6]
Laughs-at-Darkness: Well met, Grim Wolf said you would be here soon.
Zach Dallas: Glad to see we're welcome
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): for once
Zach Dallas: How are you doing? My name is Zach Dallas.
Zach Dallas: tips hat
Zach Dallas: looks to Uriel
The man is carrying an array of totems and fetishes, he is carrying a long, ornately carved pipe that is giving off a really nice aroma.
Uriel Iscariot: Notice - Delicious Tobacco!
Uriel Iscariot: Notice [1d6 = 8]
GM: Uriel suspects it is not tobacco.
Uriel Iscariot: Say there, Laughs at darkness, How you doing all the way up here?
Zach Dallas: Notice [1d4 = 2]
Uriel Iscariot: Im Known as Uriel, by the way
Uriel Iscariot: Tip hat
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): you mean yarmulke?
Laughs-at-Darkness: I am excellent my friends. As you guessed, I am Laughs-at-Darkness. Come inside my kiva. We shall have a meal together. For I think we work for the same purpose here.
GM: He beckons you inside.
Zach Dallas: enters
[w] Uriel Iscariot: GM how is my relic reacting?
[w] -> Uriel Iscariot: It is not reacting at all.
Uriel Iscariot: Enters as well
Uriel Iscariot: Notice [1d6 = 10]
Zach Dallas: Notice [1d6 = 3]
The entrance is a small hole, there is a rope ladder leading down into a circular room that looks like it was carved by water over the centuries. A stone bench has been carved from a slow stream of water over millennia. There is a fire in the middle of the room. The kiva is filled with pungent yet aromatic herbal scent.
GM: Uriel happens to notice that not a single weapon exists in this kiva, except the ones you brought in.
Zach Dallas: Oh wow, this is a very nice kiva you have here
Uriel Iscariot: Nice Place ya got here.
Zach Dallas: nods approvingly
Uriel Iscariot: Much nicer than what has become of that there settlement down in the valley
Laughs-at-Darkness: Thank you my friends. Here, have some pemmican and fresh rain water.
He hands you some food.
Uriel Iscariot: Thank ya kindly!
Uriel Iscariot: Looks appreciative
Zach Dallas: Thank you
Laughs-at-Darkness eats some also, then settles back on a pile of furs. He fills his long pipe with some green plants and takes a long draw off it. Then he passes it to Zach.
Laughs-at-Darkness: Here, you will like it. It is relaxing and will help.
Zach Dallas: s m i l e s
Zach Dallas: accepts
Zach Dallas: Vigor [1d6 = 4]
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): tanked?
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): please?
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): You're toxin resistant for at least an hour, Youre fine bro
Uriel Iscariot: That smells delicious! Whatcha got in that Pipe there?
Uriel Iscariot:
Laughs-at-Darkness: It is a herb that grows to the south of here, it aids in finding spiritual truths.
Uriel Iscariot: I see. And what truths have you discovered as of late? We are in need of several....
[w] Zach Dallas: did he look above my head when we met?
Zach Dallas: Notice [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 11]
[w] -> Zach Dallas: Nope.
Laughs-at-Darkness: I see many things. For instance, whether you know it or not, you have been chosen to fight in a war against great evil.
Uriel Iscariot: Feels some validation of his previously held convictions
Laughs-at-Darkness: The problems besetting the white man town near here are but a minor skirmish, but one that still must be won.
Zach Dallas: And here I was thinking that we would be done relatively soon...
Zach Dallas: takes off hat
Uriel Iscariot: Hrm....So about those problems , we ask of thee, what doth thy knoweth? We are truly lost....
Laughs-at-Darkness: Grim Wolf asked me to explain many things to you, but first I must know if you have the courage to face the darkness.
Laughs-at-Darkness: So I must test you first, and it will be a horrible test, a test which shall determine if you are brave enough to face the evil.
Zach Dallas: I've come to the conclusion that I don't have a choice with this one
Laughs-at-Darkness: If you wish to leave, you may, I shall not think less of you.
Zach Dallas: looks at Uriel
Zach Dallas testing
Uriel Iscariot: As you wish, ye who laugheth at the darkness
Uriel Iscariot: Teach me your comedy, such that I may have the last laugh at the expense of the darkness
Laughs-at-Darkness: (he laughs at Uriel's comment, evidently something about it is hilarious to him)
Laughs-at-Darkness: Very well! Here is the test.
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): I wonder if Enviromental Protection will hinder this at all
He stands up, opens a pouch at his waist, and throws a handful of herbs into the fire. It flares to life, burning with a bright green light for about three minutes. A dense, beautiful smelling smoke fills the kiva.
Laughs-at-Darkness: HAHAHAHA! You are both still alive! You have passed the test.
Zach Dallas: I wonder if Doc is alive?
Uriel Iscariot: Kn Occult {+2 Honey Vial} [1d6+2 = 16]
Uriel Iscariot: Wtf just happened?
You both feel lightheaded. Uriel suspects that his Environmental Protections spells were just disrupted.
Uriel Iscariot: Whooo
Uriel happens to know that this is some high-powered alchemical/herbal medicine going on. If his arms did not feel like dead weights, he might do something about this suspicious Salem-style witchcraft. He has a feeling he knows what herbs were used, but none of them are "church-sanctioned" in any century.
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): lol
Laughs-at-Darkness: Sleep, feel the currents pulling you up. Feel the earth beneath your skin. See the evil.
Uriel Iscariot: Notice [1d6 = 5]
Zach Dallas: Notice [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 3]
Zach Dallas: Oh so much fun, indeed
Uriel Iscariot: Listen to the Man for a fully naturally trippy experience
Uriel Iscariot: Zach, you need to let go, don't ne so tense, man, bro-dude
Uriel Iscariot: Whoooah
Zach Dallas: I will quote you on that
Zach Dallas: if I remember
The two of you find yourselves standing on a cloud, or at least, something that seems like a cloud. Laughs-at-Darkness is there. The sun is shining in a bright blue sky overhead, but there is no horizon and no features in any direction.
Laughs-at-Darkness: HAHAHA! So what would you ask of me?
Uriel Iscariot: I asketh of thee, the earth itself is claiming pure souls and twisting them to evil
Uriel Iscariot: The land itself be changing, and twisting the sun's rays
Uriel Iscariot: From where come this cancer, eating the very land, and the souls who inhabit it?
Laughs-at-Darkness: Yes, the spirit of the mountains, Tacheene, has been captured by a vile creature. As the creature drains power from Tacheene, the manitous remake the land around Coffin Rock into a home more suitable to them.
Zach Dallas: I see. That is what called for assistance through the Second Mayor
Uriel Iscariot: How then, doth thee, propose releasing such a spirit from the clutches of those who we cannot yet see?
Laughs-at-Darkness: They can be seen and killed. They take the form of Blood Men through a ritual that fuses them into a human host. The ritual must be stopped and Tacheene freed.
Zach Dallas: How do we kill the Blood Men, and can we save the human host?
Laughs-at-Darkness: I do not know how to kill the Blood Men, but there is no hope for the human host. Only a chance for the human soul to escape to the afterlife, for their souls are bound as part of the chains that keep Tacheene in place.
Zach Dallas: What of the Dead Man's Curse that has been placed on me? The Blood Men knew of it enough to mark me as a target.
Laughs-at-Darkness: The Curse? It has been placed on you by a powerful witch. Only once she is dead can you be free of it. It calls for a life, either yours or hers.
Laughs-at-Darkness: Until then, you are her servant, whether you know it or not, whether you want to be or not.
Zach Dallas: That's annoying. What if that witch is already dead?
Laughs-at-Darkness: If she is dead, then the Curse is lifted. Since you still have the curse, I would say she is alive.
Zach Dallas: How can I find this Witch?
Laughs-at-Darkness: I suspect she will find you. She knows where you are at all times. Perhaps with the right training you could reverse such magic and find her.
Zach Dallas: and why would the Blood Men fear this mark?
Laughs-at-Darkness: The Blood Men fear her interference. Evil wars with itself as much as it wars with good.
Uriel Iscariot: I wish to see with vision pure, with what can we see these manitous for sure?
Laughs-at-Darkness: Manitous cannot be seen in the waking world, only in the Hunting Grounds can they be found and permanently killed. Here you must wait for them to take a host, if you destroy the host you destroy the manitou.
Zach Dallas: Before we go, what do you think of Isabella DeMirri, of the Whately bloodline?
Laughs-at-Darkness: I know nothing of a person named Isabella DeMerini, or this Whateley family you speak of.
Laughs-at-Darkness: Soon you will pass from this transitory dream into a deeper one. I have two messages for you.
Uriel Iscariot: Waits patiently for the messages.
Laughs-at-Darkness: First, you will find some objects that look like snail shells in the kiva. They are "soul collectors" and you will find them of incredible use. Second, when next you find Grim Wolf, say that the Stone that Cannot Be Stopped is coming.
Zach Dallas: How do we know that he is Grim Wolf?
Uriel Iscariot: Noted, He who laughs at the darkness
Laughs-at-Darkness fades away. Both of you get a sense of being pulled toward the ground.
GM: Spirit Checks!
Uriel Iscariot: Spirit [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 2]
Uriel Iscariot is using a benny
TADM: Oh, and you definitely do not want to fail.
Zach Dallas: Spirit [1d8 = 3]
Uriel Iscariot: Spirit [1d6 = 5]
Zach Dallas is using a benny
Zach Dallas: Spirit [1d8 = 7]
Uriel Iscariot: Whoah! Easy!
Uriel Iscariot: Notice [1d6 = 10]
Uriel Iscariot: Where Am I now?
The sensation of flying is pretty cool, you have would like to try it again some day. You zoom down to Coffin Rock plateau, down along the footpath - past Dr. MacVellian, who is sitting there doodling drawings and ignoring the world around her - and along the canyon about four miles further. A large sign welcomes you to "Crooked Earth Mine." Zipping inside and down the main shaft, you sail along through the tunnels until you reach a large cavern.
Zach Dallas: Smarts [1d8 = 11]
Zach Dallas: remember the path
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): I'm basically bent on that as soon as I read "Crooked Earth Mine"
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): Never something like "fluffy Bunny Mine"
The cavern has a large pool of glowing lava in the middle of it. There is a cage nearby with a couple people stuffed in it. Six Blood Men are standing guard nearby as a man dressed in a Reverend's garb reads from a book. He finishes speaking and nods to the Blood Men, who take one of the men and shove him into the lava pool. He screams and tries to fight but is overwhelmed. A minute later a new Blood Man crawls from the lava pit.
Suspended above the lava pit is a creature that looks likes a squat human made entirely of rocks. He looks right at your spectral forms and a smile crosses his pained face.
Zach Dallas: Notice [1d4 = 5]
Zach Dallas waves
[w] Dr. MacVellian: Have we found my mech yet? If not, I'll wait til we do to use my upgrade
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): I see they moved from cattle theft, to spirit theft. Grand Theft Spirit.
Uriel Iscariot: Salutes
Tacheene: I must ask for your help. The land around this place is under my protection. I have been here since the earth was young. Some time ago the thing you call a mine was begun, and deep wounds were dug into the earth. Then a man came with magic unfamiliar to me. I do not know how he found me but he called upon the magic of the sky, my nemesis, and trapped me. I cannot touch the earth and so I only have a fraction of my power. The man drains my power and uses it for his own dark purposes. I know not what they are but I ask you, please, find me beneath this mine of yours and free me. Do not let one of your kind twist my power so. Help me and I will be generous in my reward.
TADM: And now...for the super bonus for the raise from the Notice Check.
Uriel notices the smoking remnants of MacVellian's mech in the corner of the room. It looks like it did not survive having a Blood Man drive it.
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): damnit!!
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): ROFL
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): SNAKE EYES!!
Uriel Iscariot: Lets out a sigh of relief. Those Ladies have nothing to be a'feared of now
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): Can you make another, smaller model?
TADM: Pesky "ignite/melt all objects on 16% of the time" rule.
Dr. MacVellian: It's the start of the campaign all over again. :(
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): that's your fault for not building one to begin with
GM: Uriel and Zach wake up in the kiva, feeling relaxed and refreshed. They also get a +2 bonus on Spirit checks and Guts checks for the next 48 hours of game time.
Uriel Iscariot: Notice: where is Laughs at Darkness
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): neat, I wonder if my herbs will give that bonus
Zach Dallas: Notice [1d6 = 5]
Uriel Iscariot: Notice [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 17]
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): snails?
There is no sign of Laughs-at-Darkness. In fact, everything that would indicate he had ever been here is gone. There are three snail shells sitting on a large maple leaf on the stone bench.
Uriel Iscariot: Kn Occult {+2 Honey Vial} [1d6+2 = 6]
Uriel Iscariot: Snail Shells
[w] -> Uriel Iscariot: You find the marking and glyphs that seem to indicate that they are soul collectors.
[w] Uriel Iscariot: GM what do those do?
[w] -> Uriel Iscariot: They can be used to transport lost souls around. Why you might need them right now is a bit confusing, but never look gift horse in mouth.
Uriel Iscariot: Hrm. Ok well Lets take these and get to that mine!
Zach Dallas: Well, what are these?
Uriel Iscariot: I'll just scoop up the second one for Dr. MacVellian
Uriel Iscariot: Laughs at Darkness said to take em. I'm sure he has this all planned out, being the forward thinking type
Uriel Iscariot: Now then, what say you, that we should go and pick the doctor up and head up to that mine?
Zach Dallas: Yeah, but I'd love the chance to use them properly
TADM: Unfortunately, the need for warning labels that include possible side effects does not exist in 1879.
Zach Dallas: Sure thing
Uriel Iscariot: Dr. MacVellian is prolly sweatin like a pig out there
Uriel Iscariot: Wouldn't want the poor thang to go and faint on us in the mid-day sun
Zach and Uriel head down the footpath from the top of Coffin Rock. The descent is much nicer than the ascent.
By the time you get down to the canyon floor where MacVellian is "guarding the horses" it is about five'o'clock in the afternoon.
Uriel Iscariot: Greetings Dr. MacVellian, Thirsty?
Dr. MacVellian: No. Should I be?
Uriel Iscariot: Only Mad Dogs and englishmen go out in the midday sun after all.
Zach Dallas: Hello, Doc, how did you enjoy yourself? We met with LaD earlier. Your mech is destroyed. He answered some questions like who we need to rescue and I think that Priest is actually behind the Blood Men.
Dr. MacVellian: You just now figured that out?
Zach Dallas: I'm glad you skimmed that
Dr. MacVellian: I knew that when I was trying to blow his fool head off!
Uriel Iscariot: Hey now, don't be all smart with us....
Zach Dallas: That was hardly proof. He could just have been watching the Reverend
Uriel Iscariot: Enough! Don't waste your strength. To the Mine!
Zach Dallas: We should meet up with the gals first
Uriel Iscariot: Really?
Uriel Iscariot: That may take a day
Zach Dallas: there were several Blood Men in the end, ignoring what is on the way
Zach Dallas: I don't think we can take them
Zach Dallas: not alone anyways
Uriel Iscariot: But we are the CHOSEN ones.
Zach Dallas: That's my 2 cents
TADM: And that trope only gets you so far....then you become the "de-selected ones"
Uriel Iscariot: The more souls we take into the mine, the more are at risk of conversion
Uriel Iscariot: What say you, Dr. MacVellian?
Uriel Iscariot: Should we muster more forces, or go in ourselves?
Dr. MacVellian: Both arguments have valid points
Uriel Iscariot: Well here ya go Dr. MacVellian
Uriel Iscariot: The "good Reverand" is actually the bad dude of this whole scheme
Uriel Iscariot: they got's the protector spirit of these 'ere lands all messed up, they being Manitous
Uriel Iscariot: Now down in yonder mine, they is making prisoners into bloodmen
Uriel Iscariot: I knew they sounded like southern folk....
Uriel Iscariot: Now, we found all of this out by smoking mystical scents scattered on the winds
Uriel Iscariot: So its totally reliable, right?
Dr. MacVellian: Ummmm...
Uriel Iscariot: I mean if it FEELS right, it is, no?
Dr. MacVellian: Detect craziness
Dr. MacVellian: Investigation [Critical failure!] [1d4 = 1]
Uriel Iscariot: Persuasion [1d6 = 5]
Dr. MacVellian: I...guess so.
GM: Okay, so going to the mine or looking for the Pearl gang?
Zach Dallas: Persuasion [1d4 = 10]
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): no, no we aren't
Zach Dallas: So, we cannot take the Blood Men no matter what
Zach Dallas: What we CAN do is free T-man and get him onto the earth
Zach Dallas: I imagine he can save our skins from that point on
Uriel Iscariot: That seems surgical and intelligent
Uriel Iscariot: more to the point, I don't think I can bargain with the big man upstairs for the saftey of a whole troop of people down there
Zach Dallas: Doctor MacVellian, do you think we can break past 6 Blood Men and a Corrupted Master Priest by ourselves?
Uriel Iscariot: Its going to be hard enough keeping us alive and well in those areas...
Zach Dallas: we only have to break through, he should be able to save us from that point, if he's half as powerful as LaD hints
Zach Dallas: Right, T-man is the master of the mountain, an ancient spirit whose power is being corrupted by a Reverend-like figure
Zach Dallas: long name, it started with a T, all I remember is how to get there
Zach Dallas: Also, we get loot
TADM: And the peyote was good.....
Zach Dallas: Right, good peyote too
Uriel Iscariot: What brother Zach is saying, man, bro....dude.
GM: Okay, so you are going to the Mine?
Uriel Iscariot: If only we had an inventor that could keep us hidden from them until we got to Tachneene
Dr. MacVellian: Um, you do realize I'm a woman, right?
Uriel Iscariot: All is one, And one is all
TADM: The peyote was REALLY good....
Uriel Iscariot: That's just like, your opinion, man
TADM: And not all checks were passed....
Uriel Iscariot: To the Mine!
Zach Dallas: DID YOU JUST UNDERMINE WOMEN
Zach Dallas: the Grey Witch would be dissappointed in you
Zach Dallas frowns
Zach and Uriel make a beeline to the Mine. MacVellian suspects that they have been here before.
The entrance to the Cooked Earth Mine looks like a tomahawk wound in the earth, an eerie red glow emanates from its depths.
Zach Dallas: Actually, hurrying would probably be good. We should prevent more of those things from being made
GM: Notice checks
Zach Dallas: Notice [1d4 = 2]
Uriel Iscariot: Notice [1d6 = 8]
Dr. MacVellian: Notice [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 7]
Zach notices nothing. MacVellian thinks she hears voices on the wind. Uriel hears voices coming from the mine, begging for help.
GM: None of you see any guards at the mine entrance.
Uriel Iscariot: Brotha's n sistas, Let us hold hands for a moment of prayer before we descend into the lions den
Zach Dallas: Let's move out men. It's time to rescue Mr. T
Uriel Iscariot: Environmental Protection - Dr. MacVellian
Uriel Iscariot: Faith {+2 Conviction} +2 (Novice Power Penalty -2) [1d10 = 13]
Uriel Iscariot: 'And the Lord shall be with you, and No arrow shall strike you down!
GM: That's two hours for Doctor MacVellian.
Uriel Iscariot: Faith {+2 Conviction} +2 (Novice Power Penalty -2) [1d10 = 2]
Uriel Iscariot: Faith {+2 Conviction} +2 (Novice Power Penalty -2, Novice Power Penalty -2) [1d10-2 = 7]
GM: That's two hours for Uriel.
Uriel Iscariot: Faith {+2 Conviction} +2 (Novice Power Penalty -2) [1d10 = 8]
GM: That's two hours for Zach.
Inside the mine entrance is an elevator, big enough for ten. Cranks in the center of the elevator raise and lower it. Warm, moist air seems to exhale from the shaft—almost as if the mine is breathing.
GM: Notice checks again
Uriel Iscariot: Notice [1d6 = 10]
Dr. MacVellian: Notice [1d8 = 14]
Zach Dallas: Notice [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 7]
Well you all notice the clever trap that someone has built above the elevator. It looks like someone with basic mechanical skills could easily disarm it.
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): I should do it!
Dr. MacVellian: Ghostrock Finding {+4 Nose for Rock,+2 Alertness} [1d6+6 = 9]
GM: There is no trace of Ghost Rock in this mine.
Uriel Iscariot: Down we go.
Uriel Iscariot: Makes the sign of the cross
Dr. MacVellian: Repair [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 4]
MacVellian disables the trap.
Uriel Iscariot: And he said, Let there be light!
The passageway leading away from the bottom of the lift shaft is lit by a red glow — bright enough to see by — coming from weird crimson veins running through the walls.
Uriel Iscariot: Ah...I see.
You can all hear the whispered cries for help now, they are becoming louder and more insistent. The voices are coming from the walls themselves.
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): Guts checks?
TADM: Yes indeed.
TADM: Fear modifier is -4.
Zach Dallas: Guts {+3 Seasoned/True Grit} +3 (It's good, bro +2) [1d6+5 = 10]
Uriel Iscariot: Guts {+2 Seasoned} +2 (Fear Modifier -4) [1d6 = 4]
Dr. MacVellian: Guts {+2 Seasoned} [1d6+2 = 11]
GM: Well, you all pass. :)
Uriel Iscariot: Kn Bible [1d6 = 3]
Uriel Iscariot: I was gonna say something...but now all I can think about is this creepy light
Somehow Zach knows the exact path, almost like he has been here before, so he takes the correct turn at the appropriate intersections.
About a quarter of a mile down, three ghosts manifest in front of the party. They are dressed in mining gear and are translucent.
Zach Dallas: Good evening, gentlemen
Zach Dallas tips his hat
William Wood: Hello living. I am William Wood, formerly mine foreman of the Crooked Earth Mine.
Uriel Iscariot: I see thou hath seen better days....
Zach Dallas: A pleasure to meet you. My name is Zach Dallas.
William Wood: We have, for we are dead but not allowed respite. We are trapped here, and cannot leave the mine, and cannot cross the blood barrier.
Uriel Iscariot: Now that, we can help you with
Uriel Iscariot: Kn Bible [1d6 = 4]
Uriel Iscariot: To the roots of the mountains I sank down; the earth beneath barred me in forever. But you brought my life up from the pit, O LORD my God.
Uriel Iscariot: Use {Spirit Shell}
One of the ghosts turns into a swirling column of tiny glowing lights (like fireflies) which seemingly get sucked into the snail shell Uriel is holding.
William Wood: Umm....what is that?
Uriel Iscariot: Do not worry, I shall guide thee to saftey
Zach Dallas: That is a Spirit Shell. It was given to us by a rather nice shaman named Laughs-at-Darkness
Uriel Iscariot: But before I can ensure that thee are vomited out from the belly of this beast, thou must help me
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): If we're playing Ghostbusters, I'm totally Spengler
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): Tack can be Slimer
Uriel Iscariot: Share with us now, any secrets of this mine, such that we may root out the evil that now lurks at its heart
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): IM SLIMER! YES!
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): Om nom nom nom
William Wood: Well, I think - but I am not sure - if our ghosts are somehow able to reunite with our bodies that both cease to exist.
Uriel Iscariot: I see
Ghost: Eliminating three of your foes in this case.
Zach Dallas: Aha. I see what you mean
Uriel Iscariot: Verily, I see now what these shells be fore.
Zach Dallas: Well, Mr. Wood? any last words to pass on?
William Wood: Thank you.
Zach Dallas pulls out his shell
Zach Dallas: You're welcome
Zach Dallas uses the shell
William is sucked into the shell Zach is holding.
Uriel Iscariot: May you find the peace and wholeness that was taken from thee....
Uriel Iscariot: Well, shall we go deeper?
Ghost: What about me?
Uriel Iscariot: Here kid, have a shell
Uriel Iscariot: Gives a shell to Dr. MacVellian
Dr. MacVellian: Um, okay. Thanks. I guess.
Dr. MacVellian: Holds out my shell
Dr. MacVellian: How do these things work?
The last Ghost is sucked into the shell MacVellian is holding.
The red glow and heat of the mine both increase the closer the group gets to the blood pit.
Uriel Iscariot: Worry not.
Uriel Iscariot: All of these things cannot hurt thee
You cross a red, glowing barrier that marks the entrance to the blood pit. Six Blood Men are there, two of them are shoving a man into the pit. He is struggling and screaming, but vanishes into the lava.
GM: Notice checks
Uriel Iscariot: Notice [1d6 = 3]
Zach Dallas: Notice [1d4 = 11]
Dr. MacVellian: Notice [1d8 = 6]
Reverend Cheval: What is this? Bah, kill them. I have matters to attend to.
With that, MacVellian and Zach see the Reverend vanish behind the altar.
[w] Zach Dallas: can I ID the body for Mr. Wood?
[w] Dr. MacVellian -> Uriel Iscariot: Touch the altar with your cross. It'll be fun!
[w] Uriel Iscariot -> Dr. MacVellian: sure. will do when we deal with mobs first
The ghosts of the three trapped miners stream out of the snail shells and strike three of the Blood Men, there is a long piteous howl as the two entities collide. Then the Blood Men and the Ghosts disintegrate.

The cage is empty.
The rumbling voice of Tacheene comes from above the lava pit.
Zach Dallas: Persuasion [1d4 = 9]
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): for those reading this, Nick is under the impression that the Reverend is simply hiding behind the altar or went through a secret passage
Tacheene: Thank you. Defeating the blood men has loosened the magical binding. I am still not free, but I can assist you.
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): Oh Noble Spirit of the Earth, Tell us now, how can we release thee from thy imprisonment such tha...Ah...ther he goes
Zach Dallas: You, Mr. T, are large and heavy and held above lava. Can you survive a fall into that stuff?

Nick (Dr. MacVellian): yay!!
Uriel Iscariot: Thank Thee Tacheene, Come Friends, let us excise this turmor lest it blight the land once again...
The Altar is a flickering kaleidoscope of images—a view of the general store from just inside its windows, the Jewel Theatre from its walls, the doctor’s operating room, a splintered view of the Six Feet Under, the inside of Coffin Rock’s church looking down from the altar, and more.
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): Any sign of the Reverend?
The brief glimpses the posse gets of the church reveal Cheval there; he appears to be making preparations for a major summoning spell.
Zach Dallas: Let's go! Can you send us to the Church, Mr. T?
Tacheene: I will try.
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): "I Pity the foo! Who doesn't Use Cheval's Portal...."
Zach Dallas: My thanks. It might be easier to aim just outside of town by the church
Zach Dallas: Should avoid defensive magics
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): here Nick! here nick! A major Npc! Who wants to roll a bajillion and one shot him?
Dr. MacVellian: When we free you, could you teleport my mech out of this place, please?
Uriel Iscariot: ....Guys, Stop dilldallying and get in NAO! We have to stop him! Idle Hands are the DEVILS OWN!
As the portal opens and you jump in, you feel your body being stretched and flattened as it is transported through the reflections. After an immeasurable period of time you tumble from the windows of the school house.
Zach Dallas: Close enough
TADM: Good thing you took care of Samantha ahead of time.
Zach Dallas: Notice [1d4 = 2]
Dr. MacVellian: Let's go!!
