Savage Worlds Ruleset for Fantasy Grounds II
(c) 2009 Pinnacle Entertainment Group.
The group is standing just behind a large building that is labeled, "Grand Junction Railroad Station."
A young woman on a horse rides by at a gallop, you recognize her gear as belonging to the Pony Express.
Strangely enough, despite their usual excellent record for delivery, this time a letter flutters out of her saddlebag and lands on the ground near you.
Zach Dallas picks up the letter
TADM: Delicious Cheese!
Uriel Iscariot: Oooh! Tis prophecy! I must have it Zach!
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): It's a TARP!!
GM: The letter is addressed to, "Doctor MacVellian, Dodge City, c/o Wyatt Earp."
Uriel Iscariot: Oh....
Uriel Iscariot: Well That is settled then.
Zach Dallas: Aw, it has your name on it
Zach Dallas passes the letter to Doc
Dr. MacVellian: Yes, yes it does.
Dr. MacVellian: Opens letter
Uriel Iscariot: Notice [1d6 = 9]
Uriel Iscariot: When it was postmarked
TADM: It reads, "I memorized Explosive Runes today"
TADM: On a more serious note...
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): Dam...*BOOOOM!!!*
The letter is from Doctor Elijah Bailey. He inquires about your general health and well-being, mentions that he is doing much better, and that he has work for you at the Union facility at Fort 51.
Zach Dallas: So, shall we take this clear sign of railroading?
Uriel Iscariot: Well Dr. MacVellian, What does the letter say?
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): Zing!
Dr. MacVellian: Nothing. You have to read it.
Uriel Iscariot: Frowns.
TADM: It is totally up to you guys. I throw the railroad signs out, it is up to you to ignore them and go off in an entirely different direction.
Uriel Iscariot: Getting smart with me eh?
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): is the train here?
GM: Nope.
Dr. MacVellian: I've always been smart. The directed focus is something new I'm trying out
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): what is the mail-lady doing?
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): I say we go search for Andrej. He is in his prime about now, so lets head off to Europe....we have a war to catch
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): lol
Dr. MacVellian: It's from Dr. Bailey. He says he has work for us at Fort 51
Uriel Iscariot: ...Okay, well having read it, what do you have a strong inclination to do?
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): I bet Grey can't cross moving water anyway. We would be perfectly safe.
The Pony Express Rider evidently did not notice the letter that fell out of the saddlebags.
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): Other than kill you?
TADM: How much are you willing to bet on that, "Grey can't cross running water" concept?
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): Nick's life
TADM: MacVellian's life is not a valid choice.
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): ROFL
TADM: Okay, Nick's life is fine. MacVellian's life was not a valid choice.
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): I think it's about as likely that she can run crossing water
Uriel Iscariot: Where is the Pony Express Rider headed?
Uriel Iscariot: Notice [1d6 = 5]
GM: East. Although a better question might be, "Where is Grand Junction?"
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): where is Grand Junction?
Uriel Iscariot: Aight.
Uriel Iscariot: Lets follow the pony.
Zach Dallas: Common Knowledge [1d8 = 23]
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): ROFL
Dr. MacVellian: Smarts [1d12 = 9]
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): for location, of course
Uriel Iscariot: Smarts [1d6 = 4]
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): (peer pressure)
Zach Dallas: Oh, I know where we are
Uriel Iscariot: That fact that you are so certain worries me Zach...
Zach Dallas: We used a map as a tablecloth while playing Poker and I always wound up sitting with my hands right by this portion of the map
Zach Dallas suspects that this is Grand Junction, Colorado. It is on the far side of the Continental Divide and there is a Wasatch Rail that runs from here up to the main rail station of Watkin's Field, about 100 miles north. You are about 250 miles southwest of Denver.
Dr. MacVellian: So, where to?
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): and how far from Grey?
Uriel Iscariot: First off, I need to get a letter sent here.....Let's find either a post office or that Pony's station...
GM: Well, assuming she has not moved from the last spot you saw her, she would be about 175 east-south-east of here.
Zach Dallas: Do you guys know where Fort 51 is?
Uriel Iscariot: here, My name is Zach Dallas....I
Uriel Iscariot: Smarts [1d6 = 9]
Zach Dallas: Common Knowledge [1d8 = 6]
Uriel Iscariot: Know Now. Hows that?
Zach Dallas: Better than mine
Uriel Iscariot: Its Somewhere in Nevada, no?
Dr. MacVellian: Smarts [1d12 = 6]
GM: Fort 51 is somewhere near Carson City, Nevada. You are not sure about the specifics beyond that.
Zach Dallas: Well, let's head to Carson City for now. We should be able to locate Fort 51 from there
Uriel Iscariot: Okay kids, lets get on a train. We don't want to be outside like this for too long....
GM: Yes, you still have a shiny copper plated object.
Zach Dallas: I imagine it will be a safer place than alone
Dr. MacVellian: Agreed on both counts
Uriel Iscariot: there we go....wait is that good sense comming from you Zach? Wow..
Zach Dallas: either that, or more capable of recovering from being razed
Zach Dallas: You wouldn't be saying that if you hadn't been DEAF for half of this campaign
Ted Bixby: Hey there, did I hear you mention that you needed train tickets?
Zach Dallas: Why, yes, yes we do
Uriel Iscariot: Notice [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 3]
Zach Dallas: Notice [1d4 = 3]
Dr. MacVellian: Notice [1d8 = 2]
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): Ninja Spotted!
Ted Bixby looks like a merchant, possibly a butcher given the apron with aged bloodstains on it.
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): So, what IS Grand Junction? A town or what?
Uriel Iscariot: Why hey there.
Ted Bixby: Well, I was supposed to head up to Watkin's Field today with my family, but this large herd of steer came in. I need to pick up the extra shift at the slaughtermill, so I was hoping to sell the tickets.
Uriel Iscariot: :blinks:
Uriel Iscariot: Sure. How much you want for em?
GM: Grand Junction is a small town, it is relatively boring and lifeless. Even in real-life, in 2010.
Ted Bixby: Well, the tickets are normally $10 each, nothing fancy. I'll sell you all three for $20 total.
Uriel Iscariot: Done and done.
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): how do you tell if he's lying?
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): *coughgulliblecough*
Uriel Iscariot: Hands over the 20$ USD
Uriel Iscariot: Notice [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 11]
Uriel Iscariot: Tickets
Zach Dallas: Smarts [1d6 = 4]
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): (not liking where these 1s are going)
Ted hands you three perfectly valid Wasatch train tickets. The train leaves in about an hour and is going to Watkin's Field, scheduled to arrive two hours after departure.
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): is that in the right direction?
Uriel Iscariot: Aight Zach and Dr. MacVellian. I will see thee on the train in 1 hour.
GM: It is the only direction to get out of Grand Junction.
Uriel Iscariot: Hands each a ticket
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): I take that as a yes
Dr. MacVellian: Alright then. I'll start getting my things loaded
Ted Bixby: Thanks much strangers, peace be with you.
Uriel Iscariot: Thank you! We our toutched by your kindness!
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): Conjunction junction, what's your function?
Ted Bixby walks off to a large slaughterhouse in the distance.
[w] Uriel Iscariot -> Zach Dallas: ...Zach, want to sneak that?
Uriel Iscariot: Ok...Ill see you guys in 1 hour, on the train
GM: Okay, so the group has an hour, what would you like to do?
[w] Zach Dallas -> Uriel Iscariot: the slaughterhouse?
[w] Zach Dallas -> Uriel Iscariot: no thanks
TADM: Killing yourself from boredon is not a valid option.
GM: The train has not yet arrived.
[w] Uriel Iscariot: goto mail post. Send letter to church. They need preacher replacement. Goto General Store. Get Shotgun Shells and Cigars
Zach Dallas: Well, I imagine we could use some way to get that giant hunk of metal moving and if you're driving it, I'm going to be waaaaay over there
[w] -> Uriel Iscariot: You are successful in your endeavors. Mark off appropriate currency.
Zach Dallas: walking parallel
Zach Dallas: with Deflection on
Zach Dallas: at all times
[w] Zach Dallas: I'm going to start plumbing Hoyle's book, if there aren't too many people around. I want to see if there's a mention for the Dead Man's Curse
Uriel Iscariot: Contentfully waits out the hour. Peace...for now.
Dr. MacVellian: Tinkers with the suit a little, looking for any "surprises"
[w] -> Zach Dallas: It does not seem to be in your possession any longer.
[w] Zach Dallas: WHAT THE FU
[w] Dr. MacVellian: aka hidden queen of spades
Zach Dallas: OH SHIT
Dr. MacVellian: Notice [1d8 = 7]
[w] Zach Dallas: checking my pockets for the bottle that Doc's honey was in
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): I miss my +2 notice bonus sometimes :(
GM: Other than the obvious copper-plating, you see nothing unusual with the mech.
[w] -> Zach Dallas: The bottle is still there.
[w] Zach Dallas: Deal for Hunch and find out when it was lost from my backpack
[w] Zach Dallas: I have three bennies. I am confident
Zach Dallas: ohcrapohcrapohcrapohcrap
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): runningrunningrunning lol
[w] -> Zach Dallas: Dallas Oh bad news to start the day
[w] Zach Dallas: try me
Uriel Iscariot: Enjoys a noir esque scene while smoking at the station, waiting for the train. Something bad is gonna happen....something real bad
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): I hope I'm the cause
Zach Dallas is using a benny
Zach Dallas: Spellcasting [1d6 = 3]
Zach Dallas is using a benny
Zach Dallas: Spellcasting [1d8 = 13]
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): 20 minutes have elapsed. Zach is sans 2 bennies. This has been a public service annoucement.
Dr. MacVellian: Gives Uriel $7 for my ticket
[w] -> Zach Dallas: It looks like it was "borrowed" by a hazy figure that you cannot see very well. It could be Isabella, could be Cynthia.
[w] Zach Dallas: where was I?
Uriel Iscariot: Oh...Why thanks Dr. MacVellian, that is very thoughtfull of you. You didn't need to pay back though, I just did that cause it was the proper thing to do....
[w] Zach Dallas: the fact that I can see someone and not a Queen of Spades makes me think Isabella took it back
[w] -> Zach Dallas: You were passed out at the time, your backpack was sitting near you. It looks like you were in Coffin Rock.
Uriel Iscariot: You might want to talk to the staff and get your little mechanical devil loaded prior to departure though
[w] Zach Dallas: wait....what? When did I sleep?
[w] Zach Dallas: I wasn't aware that I ever slept in Coffin Rock
Dr. MacVellian: Tis no problem. Probably not a bad idea.
[w] Zach Dallas: sun position for a general time?
Dr. MacVellian: activates security device
Dr. MacVellian: Weird Science {+2 Honey Vial} [1d8+2 = 7]
[w] -> Zach Dallas: Probably sometime after killing the Reverend and the phrase "the next morning"
[w] Zach Dallas: oh, nevermind
Dr. MacVellian: goes to make travel arrangements for my mech
Station Master: Well hello there ma'am, just come in off the stage?
Zach Dallas is clearly panicking
[w] Dr. MacVellian: How are we going to do my security system? One roll to activate, then one for damage if someone does some shenanigans?
Uriel Iscariot: Notice [1d6 = 10]
Uriel Iscariot: Time till departure
Station Master: Oh, that is a big - thing - you have there. You must be going to the City of Gloom.
Dr. MacVellian: The City of Gloom?
[w] -> Dr. MacVellian: What security system?
[w] Dr. MacVellian: Using Bolt as a theft deterrant
Station Master: Yeah, where all those mormons are, home of Doctor Darius Hellstomme, home of Wasatch railroad.
[w] Zach Dallas: well, you have just cut the number of miniquests I will be doing down to 1/3
[w] Dr. MacVellian: I "installed" it last session when Zach was trying to scrape the copper off the suit
Uriel Iscariot: Uriel Shudders twice. Mormons AND Dr. Hellstromme.....
[w] -> Dr. MacVellian: So you took a new power edge?
[w] -> Zach Dallas: Perhaps.
Zach Dallas: Hey, Uriel
[w] Dr. MacVellian: Yeah I did. Two, actually...Oh. Yeah. Now I see why you ask
Zach Dallas: I've got a few questions for you
Uriel Iscariot: Hey Zach!
Zach Dallas twitches
Uriel Iscariot: Where have you been?
Uriel Iscariot: Notice [1d6 = 5]
Uriel Iscariot: Zach
Zach Dallas: Stealth {--2 Untrained:Mike} [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6-2 = 1]
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): damn
Dementia: D20 [1d20 = 19]
Dementia: D20 [1d20 = 19]
[w] Dr. MacVellian: They both are. Check my powers listing on the main page. What do I roll?
Zach Dallas: Over there. Now that that's out of the way, I have a few questions
Zach Dallas: Do you know how to find something very life-threateningly important?
Zach Dallas: in a very secure and foolproof manner
Uriel Iscariot: That's perfect my son, I was wondering when you were going to ask the important questions in life, let me tell you the answe....
[w] -> Dr. MacVellian: You have a new present. :D
Uriel Iscariot: You ain't asking the questions you should be!
Uriel Iscariot: No. I don't know how to do such a thing.
Zach Dallas: I'll attend church twice a week--three times a week if you get it back
Zach Dallas murmers
[w] Dr. MacVellian: I don't see any presents
Uriel Iscariot: Son, you attend church for yourself, and youre own slavation, not for me.
Uriel Iscariot: Now what in creation happened? The train is gonna leave soon, how much trouble did you get into in like 20 mins?
Zach Dallas: I just need to find ONE THING
[w] -> Dr. MacVellian: Check the "Dementia" section under notes.
Zach Dallas: you have all of God's powers, right? Surely you can find ONE THING
Uriel Iscariot: Spit it out.
[w] -> Dr. MacVellian: Same result came up twice
[w] Dr. MacVellian: Oh. Well, that's good. I guess
Zach Dallas: FIND IT
Uriel Iscariot: Youve clearly lost your marbles. Go to the general store and buy some more.
[w] Zach Dallas -> Uriel Iscariot: Someone took Hoyle's book
[w] Zach Dallas -> Uriel Iscariot: I'm not sure if it was Isabella or Grey
[w] Uriel Iscariot -> Zach Dallas: How the fuck did you lose that lol
[w] Zach Dallas -> Uriel Iscariot: but they took it while I was asleep
[w] Uriel Iscariot -> Zach Dallas: you're my hero
[w] Zach Dallas -> Uriel Iscariot: dammit I didn't even get a roll
[w] Zach Dallas -> Uriel Iscariot: also, you're missing your cross
Uriel Iscariot: Notice [1d6 = 4]
[w] Zach Dallas: lol
Uriel Iscariot: Time till train leaves
[w] Uriel Iscariot -> Zach Dallas: How do you know this?
GM: About twenty minutes.
Uriel Iscariot: Notice [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 3]
Uriel Iscariot: Buildings in the Town
[w] Zach Dallas -> Uriel Iscariot: anyway, can't you do something to help find that?
Zach Dallas: Persuasion [1d6 = 8]
[w] Uriel Iscariot: Ok I mean you are telling ME that one of my toon's objects is missing. What does that do? What are you going to do,. tell him that?
Grand Junction looks like it is home to about 200 people. There is a church, a couple saloons, a boarding house, four stagecoach stations, the rail station, a slaughterhouse, and several ghost-rock powered refrigerators to store beef.
[w] Dr. MacVellian: The Shape Change isn't installed yet, but it will be at first chance. Bolt will most likely be "fine-tuned" either at Fort 51, or during a mini-quest
There are about 15 minutes until the train comes in now.
Uriel Iscariot: Notice [1d6 = 3]
Uriel Iscariot: Is anything missing from my character
GM: Not that Uriel can see.
[w] -> Dr. MacVellian: Got it. Thanks.
Zach Dallas shuffles a deck of cards
Uriel Iscariot: If there was somethin not so wholesome going on, I'd look in the____ building. Un-wholesome types are likely to be found there.
Uriel Iscariot: Kn Occult {+2 Honey Vial} [1d6+2 = 7]
Zach Dallas: very quickly
GM: Fill in the blank says, "Slaughterhouse" but your "unwholesome" meter is currently pointed to "nil" on the dial.
[w] Zach Dallas: wow, did you even remove it from my inventory?
[w] -> Zach Dallas: Yep
Uriel Iscariot: Aight. One second.
Uriel Iscariot: Quicken{self}
Uriel Iscariot: Faith {+2 Conviction} [1d10+2 = 5]
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): Evidently, I did not get my taxes done....
Zach Dallas: Well, I have nothing to do for now, so I'm just going to nervously shuffle cards in the corner here
Uriel Iscariot: Faith {+2 Conviction} +2 (Seasoned Power -4) [1d6-2 = 7]
Uriel Iscariot: Runs to the Slaughterhouse
You get to the slaughterhouse. There are several dozen cattle outside, several men are herding them into the building.
Uriel Iscariot: Search for my Crucifix. Is it giving off the "warning" vibe of unscroupulous dealins?
GM: Negative, evil-seeker, all is quiet in Grand Junction.
Uriel Iscariot: So I definetly have possession of that item at this time then?
GM: Yep.
Uriel Iscariot: Hey Cattlefolk!
Townsfolk: Yo
Uriel Iscariot: Where'd ya get this heard from? I like to know where my meat comes from.
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): You mean a herd?
Townsfolk: Blankin's Ranch.
Townsfolk: The cowpokes just brought them in, they all went to the saloon after getting paid.
A train whistle sounds in the distance.
Uriel Iscariot: Performance
Uriel Iscariot: Smarts [1d6 = 5]
Uriel Iscariot is using a benny
Uriel Iscariot: Smarts [1d6 = 3]
Uriel Iscariot: attempts to act like a rabbi
Uriel Iscariot: Oi! I need to inspect this plant for Kosher rules!
Townsfolk: We ain't got no kosher rules around here, what, you Jewish?
About five minutes before the train is set to depart, a blue Wasatch Engine pulls into the station. Aside from Doctor MacVellian and Zach Dallas, the station is empty. Even the station master seems to have come up missing.
Uriel Iscariot: Why yes, I do so happen to be Jewish. But it's this town that I am concerned about, it is the consumer!
Zach Dallas: Notice [1d6 = 13]
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): for any odd things that happened while waiting
OMG! BLASPHEMY. HE HAS JUST DENIED HIS FAITH.
GM: Make three Vigor checks Uriel.
Uriel Iscariot: I happen to be buying for a large barmitzfah for my son, I will be purchasing most of this herd, so I must make sure, for my family
GM: And two Spirit Checks.
Uriel Iscariot: Vigor [1d6 = 2]
Uriel Iscariot is using a benny

Tack (Uriel Iscariot): I blame mike for all of this
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
[w] -> Uriel Iscariot: Well, you SURVIVED that, but the next time you go looking for it, the Cross is missing.
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): I WISH this were my fault
[w] Uriel Iscariot -> Zach Dallas: F. U.
[w] Zach Dallas -> Uriel Iscariot: I dare you, keep up the charade
Uriel Iscariot: Go back to the station.....
Conductor: Hello there and welcome aboard the Nightingale. We will be departing in three minutes.
Conductor: Let's get that invention on board.
Conductor: Oh, and tickets please.
[w] Uriel Iscariot -> Zach Dallas: >:|
Dr. MacVellian: Thank you. Be careful with it.
Zach Dallas: Where did everyone go?
Uriel Iscariot: Notice [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 9]
Dr. MacVellian: Hands him my ticket
Uriel Iscariot: Do I have my ticket?
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): you clearly have Nick's ticket
GM: Until you hand it to the conductor, yes, you have a ticket.
Zach Dallas: hands over the ticket
Uriel Iscariot: Hands over ticket and then get on.
[w] Dr. MacVellian: Is it safe to assume I have not royally gheyed myself yet tonight?
The conductor slides the door open on the freight car so that MacVellian can drive her suit in.
[w] -> Dr. MacVellian: Nah, you just picked up a fun dementia.
[w] Dr. MacVellian: Yeah, but all that does is allow you the opportunity to kill people in one hit
Uriel Iscariot: Takes a seat.
Zach Dallas: follows suit
After the three of you board, the conductor gestures for you to take your seats in the lounge car.
Zach Dallas: Care for a game of poker?
Zach Dallas: directed at Tack
Zach Dallas: any other passengers?
Uriel Iscariot: Oh sure.
Zach Dallas: Notice [1d6 = 5]
Conductor: The dining car opens in thirty minutes. The sleeper car is one back, you can rest there if you want.
Gambler #1: I'm in.
Gambler #2: I'm place a few bets.
Gambler #3: Deal me in.
Dr. MacVellian: drives suit onto train, then joins the others

Nick (Dr. MacVellian): were you dealt SNAKE EYES!?!
TADM: Uriel <<<< Self-Inflicted Gunshot wound to Faith die.
Uriel Iscariot: Well well gentlemen, again?
Uriel beats everyone else with Aces/Eights in black. He collects $8 in winnings.
Gambler #1: Deal them.
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): What was Zach's hand?
Zach Dallas: hehe
The other three gamblers agree.
GM: Zach's hand was a pair of fours.

Gambler #1: My deal, maybe I'll have some better luck here.
Gambler #1: D6 [1d6 = 2]
Gambler #2: D6 [1d6 = 3]
Gambler #3: D6 [1d6 = 4]

Gambler #2: Well, at least the cards are consistent.
Zach Dallas: You should see what happens when we remove them
Uriel Iscariot: Bah, these cards are creeping me out.
Uriel Iscariot: I'm out of this game.
The gamblers look content to keep playing.
Zach Dallas: Gambling (Skill +2) [1d8+2 = 8]

Gambler #4: D6 [1d6 = 3]

[w] Dr. MacVellian -> Uriel Iscariot: Did your cross explode or something?
[w] Uriel Iscariot -> Dr. MacVellian: =***(
Uriel Iscariot: Oh Dr. MacVellian.....
[w] Zach Dallas: going for another hand, but since I'm dealing I'm going to purposely spread out the Aces and Eights, sacrificing my +2
[w] Zach Dallas: but still cheating
Zach Dallas: Gambling [1d8 = 9]
Dr. MacVellian: On Uriel
Dr. MacVellian: Notice [1d8 = 5]

Gambler #4: About damn time.
Dr. MacVellian: He didn't say.
He rakes in the pot, having won again with Aces/Eights in black.
[w] Zach Dallas: removing the Aces and Eights from the deck before I pass it on
Zach Dallas: Gambling [1d8 = 12]

Gambler #4: D6 [1d6 = 4]
Gambler #3: Well ain't that weird.
Gambler #2: We need a new deck.
Gambler #1: Who was the last one who dealt?
Dr. MacVellian: Pretty much, yeah.
Gambler #1 pulls out a derringer and points it at Zach.
Zach Dallas: Pardon?
Uriel Iscariot: Huh. Pretty strange that he would get hired help from that distance..
Gambler #4: Kind of weird how we all got Aces/Eights in black there after your deal.
[w] Dr. MacVellian -> Uriel Iscariot: Given your situation, don't question the plothook
Zach Dallas: Oh, son of a bitch I lost another deck
Uriel Iscariot: Something going on here Doc that you ain't sayin?
Zach Dallas: Kind of weird how every winning hand got Aces and Eights, regardless of if I touched it or not
Zach Dallas: Persuasion [1d6 = 9]
Zach Dallas: Maybe that's just a bad omen in general
Gambler #3: No need to get nasty, no one won. Everyone just pull their money out and I'll go get a new deck.
Gambler #3 gets up to go get a new deck.
Gambler #3 reaches the door between the cars and stops,
Dr. MacVellian: No, not really. You can read it if you like
Gambler #3: Ma'am, nice to see you.
Uriel Iscariot: No thanks. Just seems strange.
Isabella DeMerini: Oh, pardon me, I got all turned around.
Zach Dallas: Why hello there!
Isabella DeMerini turns around and heads the other direction.
GM: Notice checks.
Zach Dallas: Notice [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 3]
Uriel Iscariot: Notice [1d6 = 4]
Dr. MacVellian: Notice [1d6 = 9]
[w] -> Dr. MacVellian: Two VERY strange things (1) Isabella was wearing a white dress with a blue sash (2) It was soaking wet, like she just climbed out of a river.
Gambler #3: That is one fine looking woman. Anyway...off to get cards.
Dr. MacVellian: Hands Uriel the letter
Dr. MacVellian: Excuse me for a moment
Dr. MacVellian: Goes after Isabella
Zach Dallas: follows
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): I have my OWN reasons
Uriel Iscariot: Follows
[w] Uriel Iscariot: Hold the letter up to a strong light source, searching for hidden watermarks, messages, etc
[w] -> Uriel Iscariot: You notice ghost rock powder on it. There is a faint outline of something being there, but you cannot see it in the light through the train window.
Isabella walks through the dining car and up into the private coach at the front of the train. She walks into a private room.
Zach Dallas: I'll be back
Gambler #1: You'd better be.
[w] Zach Dallas: is my Dead Man's curse expanding?
[w] -> Zach Dallas: And how would you know or definitively find out?
Uriel Iscariot: Awaits the what Isabella has to say
GM: So do you go into the room that Isabella walked into?
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): Awww. Well, at least we know where she is
Uriel Iscariot: Yes
[w] Zach Dallas: basically by previous experience. I mean, it showed up everywhere at first, then only in Poker games with other people, now it's showing up in everybody's hand rather than just my own
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): Follows Tack
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): Nope. I'll let her unload her guns into someone else first
[w] -> Zach Dallas: Well, that definitely does seem suspicious.
GM: Notice checks from anyone who walks into the room.
Uriel Iscariot: Notice [1d6 = 11]
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): brb. going to see if anyone was kind enough to bring me home dinner
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): waiting for initial reaction
Man: Hey, what you are doing in my room?
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): does Tack survive?
Zach Dallas: returns to his card game
Zach Dallas: Hey, Doc, ask Isabella if she's seen my book since we were in Coffin Rock
Uriel Iscariot: What does the man look like? what is the room like?
Zach Dallas: if you catch her again
The room is tidy and organized, a man is sitting in a chair, he was looking outside until you barged in. There is a newspaper on the table next to him.
Zach Dallas: well, technically her book
Zach Dallas: continues to the card game again
[w] -> Uriel Iscariot: The date on the newspaper is October 31, 1877.
Uriel Iscariot: Oh, pardon me. My legs cramp easily, and I was just wanting to get up and look around this fine train
Man: Well, there are plenty of places to walk that are not in my room. Now, if you could walk somewhere else, I would appreciate it.
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): I suggest a long walk off a short cliff
GM: There is no trace of Isabella in this room.
TADM: Clearly she can shapeshift at will.
Uriel Iscariot: Persuasion [1d8 = 11]
GM: What are you trying to persuade him to do?
Uriel Iscariot: Could you please let me stay up here a bit? There are some shady gamblers back there, and I do believe they are practicing some sort of black magic. I am a lil a'feared to be back there right now. Verily I feel much more comfortable here.
Man: Oh, I guess. Just sit over there and try not to be too noisy. If you are literate, feel free to read the paper.
Uriel Iscariot: Why thank you so much Mr....
The man seems to be pointedly ignoring Uriel.
Uriel Iscariot: Goes and sits down.
Uriel Iscariot: Smarts [1d6 = 10]
Uriel Iscariot: What does the paper say, of interest?
The newspaper, dated from two days ago, mentions that the food shipments coming into the Watkin's Field area are being attacked or diverted. There are fears that a widespread famine may ensue if a solution is not found.
[w] -> Uriel Iscariot: Yes, when you picked the paper up and took a closer look, the date was from two days ago.
[w] Uriel Iscariot: as soon as I feel I am not being watched, I would like to attempt to extract the ghost rock powder from the letter, and put it into a cigar.
[w] -> Uriel Iscariot: Mission accomplished.
Uriel Iscariot: Notice [1d6 = 5]
Uriel Iscariot: Room I am in
Uriel Iscariot: Particularly anything that would identify the Man, as if this were his private car
This is a nicely appointed, but rather spartan private room. It has a small table, two chairs, and a fold-out bed in it. The man stares out the window as the scenery rolls by. You do notice that the sun seems to be setting behind the mountains. Perhaps the train is going into a valley?
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): Is it Death Valley?
GM: Not even close.
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): will it be death valley when we're done with it?
GM: Quite possibly.
Uriel Iscariot: Busts out a Rosary and prays in the corner.
Conductor: The dining car is now open and serving. We will be in Watkin's Field in ninety minutes.
Dr. MacVellian: Goes to grab some grub
Uriel Iscariot: Does the "gentleman" appear to have his own private stash of food?
Uriel Iscariot: Notice [1d6 = 4]
GM: No, but he makes no move to go to the dining car either. About the only action he takes is to stop and check his watch at random intervals.
MacVellian sits down in the dining car. Six other passengers are there also. Dinner is served.
Uriel Iscariot: Make of his watch
Uriel Iscariot: Notice [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 3]
GM: It is a pocketwatch.
MacVellian gets about three bits into her meal when it she gets a piece that is disgusting.
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): check under the bed
GM: MacVellian -> Spit it out or make a Vigor check.
Uriel Iscariot: continues with prayers.
Dr. MacVellian: Politely spits it out into a napkin
No one seems to notice your polite behavior. Unfortunately, what YOU do notice is that the food on your plate is not only rotten, but maggots are crawling all over the meat.
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): lol
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): Ewww that's pretty bad
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): SAVAGE SICK!
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): Is that how you got food poisoning, Tack?
GM: The other people munch away at their food. A couple make comments about how delicious it is. If you glance over at their plates, their food seems to be normal.
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): Still don't know what did it. But I wouldn't wish that upon anyone.
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): how's the gambling coming?
Gambler #4: My deal.
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): while Nick eats his disgusting, maggoty food
Gambler #1: D6 [1d6 = 3]
Zach Dallas: Gambling [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 2]
Gambler #2: D6 [1d6 = 3]
Gambler #3: D6 [1d6 = 3]
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): Is anyone else sitting at my table?
Gambler #4: D6 [1d6 = 4]
Gambler #4: Nicely done.
Gambler #4 rakes in the pot, winning with Aces/Eights in Black again.
GM: A young woman is sitting across from Doctor MacVellian. She looks up at you.
Young Woman: Are you all right? Is the food not to your liking?
Dr. MacVellian: To be honest, no.
Gambler #2: Well, this streak of Dead Man's hands makes it easy to bet. Think it is going to put a damper on the game though.
Gambler #3: True dat.
Young Woman: Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. Perhaps the chef can get you something else.
Dr. MacVellian: How does yours taste?
Young Woman: It is very nice, although a bit bland. Would you like to try some?
Zach Dallas: I'm amazed that nobody has pulled anything better than two pair yet
Gambler #4: Yep
Dr. MacVellian: No, that's okay. I think I've lost my appetite, anyway.
[w] Zach Dallas -> Uriel Iscariot: It's hard to tell which one is the illusion, though
Young Woman: I'm sorry to hear that. Well, it was nice to almost dine with you miss. By the way, my name is Rita Evans.
[w] Zach Dallas -> Uriel Iscariot: or how many plates are affected. It's at least not one spread-out illusion
[w] Dr. MacVellian -> Zach Dallas: What was Emma's last name
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): You just want to kill her ENTIRE FAMILY, don't you?
Dr. MacVellian: Evans? Do you happen to be related to an Emma Evans?
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): also, Samantha "The Ghost" Evans
Uriel Iscariot: Speak Language with a raise for a dialect of High Society
Young Woman: Why yes. She's a younger sister. She left for Medical School a few months ago. How do you know Emma?
Dr. MacVellian: We met up in Coffin Rock a few days ago
Young Woman: That's odd. She must be on break.
Uriel Iscariot: Faith {+2 Conviction} +2 (Novice Power Penalty -2, Raise on Spell -4) [1d10-4 = 0]
Young Woman: Well, it was probably a good thing for her to see Samantha and everyone else. Coffin Rock is such a nice town, John Daly is a good man.
Dr. MacVellian: Uh...yeah. There's been quite a few changes that you should know about.
Rita Evans: Oh, really, I doubt it changed much since I left last week on the stage, but do go ahead. I like gossip. Was Belle Sygrove wearing something scandalous in public again?
Dr. MacVellian: I'm not familiar with that name.
[w] Dr. MacVellian: All that shit happened in one week?!? Wow, that takes effort to go downhill that fast
Dr. MacVellian: What day did you leave Coffin Rock?
[w] Zach Dallas -> Uriel Iscariot: I bet we went back in Time somehow
Dr. MacVellian: As in, the exact date.
TADM: Warning! Warning Will Robinson!
[w] Zach Dallas -> Uriel Iscariot: that's why Isabella didn't notice us
Rita Evans: Err...I think it was October 25, 1877. Why, did you lose track of time?
[w] Uriel Iscariot -> Zach Dallas: Yah, the date on the paper kinda does that as well......and there we have it
[w] Zach Dallas: did we get a letter like the one that we found way back when?
TADM: OH NOES! TURN ON "SPOOKY RED LIGHT MODE"
Dr. MacVellian: Recollection of today's date
Uriel Iscariot: Attempt same cast
Dr. MacVellian: Smarts [1d6 = 4]
Uriel Iscariot: Faith {+2 Conviction} +2 (Raise on Spell -4, Novice Power Penalty -2) [1d10-4 = 5]
Zach Dallas: Common Knowledge [1d8 = 6]
Uriel Iscariot: In the most high society, high class, most educated dialect possible:
GM: Well, according to Doctor MacVellian, it should be August 18, 1879.
Uriel Iscariot: Good chap, may I be so bold to ask what it is a good gent like you is doing out here in this backwater? If I do ask so myself Good Chap....
[w] Dr. MacVellian: Oh crap. Are we on some ghost train or something?
[w] Zach Dallas: We found the letter when we first landed, right? From Bailey?
[w] -> Zach Dallas: Yes.
[w] -> Dr. MacVellian: Possibly.
Dr. MacVellian: I see.
Man: If you are not going to be quiet, I am going to ask you to leave again. Failing that I shall have the conductor remove you from this room.
Dr. MacVellian: That is...very interesting.
Dr. MacVellian: looks deeply troubled all of a sudden
Rita Evans: Are you sure you are okay? Perhaps you are allergic to something in the food?
Rita Evans: Although, I wish Emma were here, she is more medically knowledgable than I.
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): Wait! I'm not totally f'ed!!!
Dr. MacVellian: recollection of train crashes in this area
Dr. MacVellian: Kn Trains [1d6 = 2]
Dr. MacVellian is using a benny
Dr. MacVellian: Kn Trains [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 5]
MacVellian remembers reading an article on November 1, 1877 about a Wasatch train named, "Nightingale" crashing into a gulley outside Watkin's Field. There were no survivors. MacVellian remembers reading a followup a few weeks later. It was concluded the bridge the train was going over at the time of the crash was intentionally sabotaged in order to kill a famous female gunslinger named Sarah Angel.
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): Next level is DEFINITELY going into Jack of all Trades
TADM: Someone out there likes Magic Cards. ;)
[w] Zach Dallas: did they play a hand of Poker before I got back?
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): Ewwwwwww! They devour your soul!!
[w] Zach Dallas: my original goal was to see if they would still get the Dead Man's hand without me
[w] -> Zach Dallas: Three actually. At this point they are not even wagering money, since they have all come to accept that the winner is whoever gets dealt the Dead Man's hand.
[w] Zach Dallas: (technically, to see if it was contagious, but given new events)
[w] -> Zach Dallas: Which should sufficiently answer your question.
Dr. MacVellian: Excuse me, Miss Evans. It was nice talking to you
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): Only 5th edition and up do.
Rita Evans: Yes, have a nice evening.
Dr. MacVellian: politely bolts from the table
TADM: It's okay, it is one of the rare Beta misprint Serra Angels, with a picture of a female gunslinger on it.
Dr. MacVellian: Goes to the car where Zach was gambling
GM: Notice check for the look of "OH SHIT" on MacVellian's face? :D
Zach Dallas: Notice [1d4 = 3]
Dr. MacVellian: Um, Zach, we have a problem on our hands
Zach Dallas: no duh, they pulled DMH without me
Zach Dallas: consistantly
Zach Dallas: so either it's contagious
Dr. MacVellian: No, that's not it.
Zach Dallas: or there's a convention going on
Zach Dallas: what'cha mean?
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): No response to high class talk from the dude?
GM: Negative on the response from the man.
Dr. MacVellian: quietly explains our predicament
Zach Dallas: Why not stop the engine?
GM: This is where the Doubting Thomas hindrance could be fatal.
Dr. MacVellian: I thought I should inform you first, so you can get Uriel and see if you can pull the emergency brake while I head toward the engine
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): Do I have money from the "future" on me?
GM: Yes, you have coins with a minting date that is in the future.
Zach Dallas: So, plan A I think we can go try to convince the conducter to stop the train
Zach Dallas: checks print date of my copy of Hoyle's Book
GM: It was printed in 1865.
Dr. MacVellian: You do that. I'll still try to head toward the engine
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): Note:
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): checks print date of my Dodge City Deputy Badge
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): Chances are the whole thing is stuck in an infinite loop.
Zach Dallas: I forgot I had this
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): Telling the conductor isn't going to do jack.
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): you don't know that for certain
Zach Dallas: and besides, it gets us right next to him so we can overpower him
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): I will in about 7 actions.
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): also, make him mentally retarded when we try. Then he'll be susceptible
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): actually, we should use a skill that is opposed by Spirit
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): that way he'll have the Smarts to stop the train
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): Now, again due to YOU putting me up to stupid, its going to be more of a schlep then before,
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): My goal in life
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): No you don't. You know how to make REAL trains stop.
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): its a GHOST TRAIN
GM: There is no print date on the badge.
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): Almost as cool as a SOUL TRAIN
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): (needs the piano man)
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): would it serve as a good +2 bonus for intimidation?
GM: The ghost rock car is the car just past the private car. The door is locked. The ghost rock hauler leads to the engine.
Uriel Iscariot: Quickness on Self
Uriel Iscariot: Faith {+2 Conviction} +2 (Seasoned Power -4) [1d10-2 = 5]
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): When next round begins, so does the party.
GM: Okay, let's get the party started then.
Zach Dallas: Common Knowledge [1d6 = 15]
Uriel Iscariot: Blitz over to the dude in the car
Dr. MacVellian: Heads toward the Engine
Zach Dallas: You, there. Do you have any relation to Emma Evans?
Uriel Iscariot: JESUS, TAKE THIS SOUL UNTO THEE!
Uriel Iscariot: Greater Healing on the dude
Rita Evans: Yes, she's my sister. Were you visiting Coffin Rock recently?
Uriel Iscariot: Faith {+2 Conviction} +2 (Seasoned Power -4) [1d6-2 = 9]
Zach Dallas: In a manner of speaking, yes
Man: AAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
The man seems to decompose into dust in a matter of seconds.
Gambler #1: What the Hell was that?
Zach Dallas: She didn't mention that she had another sister, though
Gambler #2: Get your guns boys!
Gambler #3: Get a rope!
Gambler #4: Throw the murderer off the train as we pass Mullin's Gorge!
Zach Dallas: How many sisters do you have, per chance?
Uriel Iscariot: Action #2. Turtle.
Rita Evans: What was that?
Rita Evans bolts upright, looks around nervously.
Uriel Iscariot: Faith {+2 Conviction} +2 (Novice Power Penalty -2) [1d10 = 6]
Uriel Iscariot: Protection.
Zach Dallas: Persuasion [1d6 = 4]
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): Zach, they are dead.
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): Nah, they're harrowed
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): ....
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): Lol
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): valuable allies
Rita Evans: There are five of us: Emma, Samantha, Judith, Gracie, and I. Why?
TADM: All the Sisters Were Valiant.
The gamblers and the conductor rush into the dining room, heading towards the private car. They are all carrying guns.
Zach Dallas: Simply curiosity, really
Rita Evans dives for cover in the event of gun fire.
Zach Dallas: Pardon me a moment. I think a friend of mine is trying to get himself killed
Rita Evans: (whispers) Good luck with that.
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): Ne'ver a good parting of this world without lots of noise and agony
Zach Dallas: You should keep that luck. I hope we can get you to survive this ordeal this time
Rita Evans: Huh?
Zach Dallas: tosses her a future coin
[w] Dr. MacVellian: Is there any way to hop along the roof of the train to the engine? I think my path just became blocked with people
Zach Dallas: if you could help Doc up front, that'd be splendid, but I'm not sure what your skillset happens to be
Rita Evans grabs it out of midair.
[w] -> Dr. MacVellian: With a couple agility checks, yes.
Zach Dallas: check the date. I'll be back
Rita Evans: Err...okay. I'm studying to be a mechanical engineer, so I should be able to help her out.
Zach Dallas: Thanks!
Dr. MacVellian: Attempts to climb on top of the train
Zach Dallas: Heads down after Uriel's lost soul
Dr. MacVellian: Agility [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 5]
Rita Evans follows MacVellian.
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): She's not dead, she's living impaired. Ok....
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): lol
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): handicapable
[w] Zach Dallas: does Grey bear any family resemblance to them?
MacVellian and Rita get to the top of the train. Isabella DeMerini is standing there, staring at you.
[w] -> Zach Dallas: Yes.
Isabella DeMerini: Can I help you?
Dr. MacVellian: Isabella, we NEED to stop this train!!
[w] Zach Dallas: oh son of a bitch
Isabella DeMerini: And you are? And why should I listen to you?
Rita Evans dives for cover.
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): heads to the roof
Dr. MacVellian: Oh dear. That's unexpected.
Rita Evans: She's a psychotic murdering gunslinger. She'll gun you down for just talking mean to her.
Rita Evans: She's killed at least fifty men in cold blood.
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): "men". Key word there
The conductor and the gamblers reach the front car. They see Uriel there.
Conductor: Who are you? Where did that scream come from?
Gambler #2: Yeah, help us look for the murderer.
Dr. MacVellian: I'll give you the short version, then. Someone has sabotaged the bridge ahead in an attempt to kill someone named Sarah Angel, and everyone aboard will die.
Gambler #4: I bet it's that gunslinger, Sarah Angel. I saw her lurking around the roof.
Gambler #1: We should get her!
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): tell me when I catch up with them
Gambler #3: Yeah, good luck with that. Can I hold your money?
Isabella DeMerini: Well, I'm Sarah Angel, and it wouldn't be the first time that someone has plotted to kill me, it comes with the territory.
Zach clambers up the ladder and to the roof.
[w] -> Zach Dallas: Smarts check.
Zach Dallas: Smarts [1d8 = 11]
Dr. MacVellian: That's Emma Evan's sister, and you gave her your spirit-shard. Why, I don't know, but it's returned to you in the future
Dr. MacVellian: Emma Evans, not her sister
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): you
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): are an idiot
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): WAT IS RONG WITH U
Dr. MacVellian: You were the one who wondered what I found out with a 23 smarts roll
[w] -> Zach Dallas: Now that you are looking at her, you notice that Grey, Isabella, and any Evans you have seen so far look similar.
Dr. MacVellian: I don't know if you believe me or not, but I need to go stop this train now
Zach Dallas: Hot damn
Zach Dallas: It's all one big happy family
Isabella DeMerini: Hmm...well, as I see it, you know too much and talk too much.
Dr. MacVellian: to determine how far we are from the gorge
Dr. MacVellian: Notice [1d8 = 3]
Dr. MacVellian is using a benny
Dr. MacVellian: Notice [1d6 = 7]
Zach Dallas: Hey, Isabella!
In MacVellian's estimate, the gorge is about ten minutes ahead.
Zach Dallas: That just dramatically increased our chances of success
Dr. MacVellian: Sorry, but I was banking on you knowing what I was talking about with it, and needed a fast way to convince you
Zach Dallas: Oh, so she's not the...original?
Dr. MacVellian: Now if you'll excuse me, I need to stop this train.
Dr. MacVellian: heads toward the engine unless Isabella says something else, or tries to stop me
Isabella DeMerini: Oh, I know what you are talking about, and I am certain that you know too much for your own good, or my own good.
Zach Dallas: Excuse me, can you take a look at this?
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): Oh f
Zach Dallas: hands her a coin from the future
GM: Well, she is standing in front of you, are you are going to walk towards her?
Zach Dallas: don't shoot me
GM: Are you walking up to her to hand her a coin?
Zach Dallas: Persuasion [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 10]
Zach Dallas is using a benny
Zach Dallas: Persuasion [1d6 = 5]
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): walking, yes
Zach Dallas: Agility [1d8 = 3]
Zach Dallas: OK, maybe it'll be easier if you come over here
GM: It doesn't look like she is planning on shooting anyone.
Zach Dallas: So, first off, I have this neat little coin here.
Dr. MacVellian: attempts to walk around her
Zach Dallas: Comes from '78
Isabella DeMerini draws and points a gun at MacVellian's head.
Zach Dallas: Also, I've got
Uriel Iscariot: Tsk tsk tsk, Well, Im glad there are doors on this car, becasue people are dying to get in!
Isabella DeMerini: Back up woman, you are not going anywhere until you tell me how you know about Spirit-shards.
Zach Dallas: Agility [1d6 = 11]
Zach Dallas: There we go
Conductor: Well then, look for the corpse and the murderer.
Zach Dallas: makes his way over there
Rita Evans swings back into the train car and runs up front.
Zach Dallas: coin, and a handy little vial pleasedon'tloseitIhaven'thunchedit
Dr. MacVellian: I don't know about them. All I know is that in July of '79, you meet Emma Evans in Coffin Rock and ask for your shard back. That's all.
Zach Dallas: hands her the empty vial and the future's coin
Dr. MacVellian: And that you were speaking Ancient Sumarian when you asked her for it
Isabella's eyes narrow down to dangerous points of light. Her eyes flare green as she sees the Vial in Zach's hand while MacVellian talks.
Zach Dallas: You gave them to us
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): excuse me wtf r u doin you two?
Rita Evans: Conductor, the rest of you! Go up to the roof. The gunslinger, Sarah Angel, is trying to sabotage the train.
Conductor: What? Follow me!
The conductor and the gamblers run to the nearest ladder.
Rita Evans smiles as she shows Uriel the conductor's keys.
Rita Evans: Help me stop the train.
Uriel Iscariot: Sure thing darling.
Rita Evans gestures to Uriel to follow her.
Uriel Iscariot: Follows Rita
Uriel Iscariot: Ya know what happens if the owner can't pay for the repairs after this incident?
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): no puns
Uriel Iscariot: the train will be repossessed.
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): YOU F UCKER
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): I TRIED
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): I HONESTLY TRIED
Rita Evans: Hmm...I think that was some sort of joke, but I don't get it.
Conductor: There she is! Get her!
Zach Dallas groans
[w] Dr. MacVellian -> Uriel Iscariot: He won't have enough left to be buried?
Gambler #1 points a shotgun at Isabella.
Zach Dallas: oh, dammit
[w] Uriel Iscariot -> Dr. MacVellian: lewls....
Zach Dallas: Get back down there, you idiot
Gambler #3 refuses to take part in this bloodletting. Stops to get a shot of whiskey in the dining car.
Dr. MacVellian: Anyway, let's continue this conversation later.
Zach Dallas: Can't you see this is a dangerous situaton!
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): What are the dimensions of the roof of the traincar?
Zach Dallas: {Intimidation}{Possible +2 for the Badge}
Zach Dallas: Stealth {--2 Untrained:Mike} -2 [1d4 = 10]
Isabella DeMerini: Hmm...this is making sense. You two are bounty hunters after me.
Gambler #4: There's a nice bounty on her all right.
Conductor: Well, as I see it, you are the most likely to have committed murder.
Isabella DeMerini: Murder? And where is the body?
Dr. MacVellian: I'm going back down before this becomes the Shitstorm 2
Rita Evans runs through the ghost rock car and into the engine.
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): Follows
Uriel Iscariot: Follows
Rita and Uriel discover that the engineer is lying in a pool of blood. The boiler is slowly building up pressure and looks about to explode.
Rita Evans: That's not good.
Rita Evans: In multiple ways.
Uriel Iscariot: Uhh....
Uriel Iscariot: Umm....
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): you should heal him
Uriel Iscariot: Notice [1d6 = 11]
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): he's not dead
GM: Notice checks for the people on the roof.
Dr. MacVellian: Tries to get around them
Zach Dallas: Notice [1d4 = 2]
Dr. MacVellian: Agility [1d6 = 3]
Dr. MacVellian is using a benny
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): not my forte
Dr. MacVellian: Agility [1d6 = 5]
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): I'm out of bennies, too
The engineer appears to have been dead for about half an hour. Uriel's poor understanding of infernal devices tells him this train has been sabotaged and is set to explode.
Isabella DeMerini: Or maybe not...the rest of you get out of here.
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): is that directed to us?
Uriel Iscariot: Hrm....Looks like this thing needs to let off some steam...
There is a twisted groaning of metal. It sounds like something very large just landed on the dining car behind you.
Zach Dallas: turns around
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): Also, since I didn't notice the request for a roll til now
Dr. MacVellian: Notice [1d8 = 10]
Zach Dallas: Notice [1d6 = 5]
[w] Uriel Iscariot: GM can Ghostrock be dispelled?
[w] -> Uriel Iscariot: No.
[w] Dr. MacVellian: I know. Hence the request for a benny. But nevermind. I think whatever is behind us (or above and behind me, I suppose) won't make me regret it long
Uriel Iscariot: Well Rita, Another Idea then, We must sever the cars connection.
A large, winged creature, like a demon spawned from the very pits of Hell, has just landed on the train. The roof is bending inward from its weight. It lets out a bestial roar that shakes the train. The three gamblers who followed the conductor to the roof go sailing off the train into the gorge below.
Conductor: Ticket please?
Conductor: All right, who invited a Balrog into Old West?
GM: MacVellian and Zach need to make Guts checks.
Conductor: I failed mine.
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): They can't resist invading scenes with narrow bridges and big pits
TADM: Yeah, pesky things.
Zach Dallas: Guts {+3 Seasoned/True Grit} [1d4+3 = 13]
Zach Dallas: That looks a bit worse than the Frog Demon
Dr. MacVellian: Guts {+2 Seasoned} [1d6+2 = 6]
Zach Dallas: Hopefully, it won't be quite as immune to dynamite
GM: Well, you are not scared.
Uriel Iscariot: Notice for the connector Engine{}Rest of Train
Uriel Iscariot: Notice [1d6 = 2]
Uriel Iscariot is using a benny
Uriel Iscariot: Notice [1d6 = 4]
Rita Evans: Here, we need to pull this out...and....What is that thing on the train? OH...MY...GOD....
Uriel Iscariot: BE STRONG CHILD!
Rita Evans faints.
Uriel Iscariot: NEVER!
Isabella DeMerini glances over at Zach, MacVellian, and the Conductor.
Isabella DeMerini: Get out of here. NOW.
Zach Dallas: Yes'm
Uriel Iscariot: Inspiration{Rita}
The demon stomps forward.
Dr. MacVellian: Don't have to tell me twice. What about you?
Zach Dallas: Want dynamite, Isabella?
Uriel Iscariot: Faith {+2 Conviction} +2 (Novice Power Penalty -2) [1d6 = 16]
Conductor: Escaping this round is definitely my priority.
Zach Dallas: I've got a spare!
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): wat?
Dr. MacVellian: Climbs down the rest of the ladder, then heads toward the engine
Rita Evans: What? Oh...I seem to have fainted there. Rather silly of me.
Dr. MacVellian: Remembers that door being locked. Hmmm curious. Oh well
Uriel Iscariot: The Engine! We must disconnect it!
Isabella DeMerini: Come dwimmerlaik, demon of carrion. Try to feast on me.
Zach Dallas: Agility [1d6 = 3]
GM: No, she does not seem interested in your dynamite.
Isabella DeMerini snaps her hand. A glowing yellowish blade appears in her left hand. She runs at the demon.
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): Let me know, a) when I'm at the engine, and b) how much time has passed since the '10 minutes til destruction' notice
Rita Evans: Oh Doctor, it is good to see you.
Zach Dallas: Let me know A) When I can make another Agility roll
Dr. MacVellian: Notice [1d8 = 5]
GM: Answer to (b) You have 3 minutes left. Answer to Zach's (a) Now is good.
Dr. MacVellian: determining how f'ed the engine is
Zach Dallas: Agility [1d8 = 14]
Zach Dallas: flees
GM: MacVellian notes that the engine is rigged to overload and explode in about three minutes. You think you can fix it though.
[w] Dr. MacVellian: How many repair checks?
[w] -> Dr. MacVellian: Four.
Dr. MacVellian: You two work on disconnecting the engine. If I can't do it, pull the lever.
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): "it" being stop the engine myself
Round 1
The deck has been shuffled.
Dealing cards...
GM: You hear a shout from Isabella and there is a loud crack from overhead.
Uriel Iscariot
Uriel Iscariot: Work on the lever, buff STR of self
Uriel Iscariot: Faith {+2 Conviction} +2 (Novice Power Penalty -2) [1d10 = 3]
Dr. MacVellian
Dr. MacVellian has been awarded a benny
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): NICK IS MY HERO
TADM: Infernal Revenue Service is BENNY WORTHY.
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): YES!! Bad puns to the rescue!!
Dr. MacVellian: Repair [1d8 = 7]
GM: MacVellian works on the gages and dials.
There is a tortured groan of metal and steel from overhead. The demon howls. Isabella cartwheels backwards, the strange yellow blade searing through the roof of the engine.
Conductor: (throws up) I think it is using the caboose as a club.
GM: Screams of panic come from the cars as the people on the train try to hide from the battle on the roof.
Zach Dallas
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): Well, if you got a big caboose, you should flaunt it, right?
Zach Dallas: heads down to....watch people use the repair skill
[w] -> Dr. MacVellian: On your turn make a Repair roll for Rita also.
Round 2
Dealing cards...
Uriel Iscariot was dealt the Black Joker! Go whenever you want this round. You also get: Joker Trait/Damage Bonus [2]
Dr. MacVellian was dealt the Red Joker! Go whenever you want this round. You also get: Joker Trait/Damage Bonus [2]
The deck has been shuffled.
Uriel Iscariot
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): FOOK!!!!
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): How far away from the Demon am I?
[w] Dr. MacVellian: Do you want me to roll for her last round too? And does she have the same skill rank as me?
[w] -> Dr. MacVellian: Still make a repair roll for Rita when it is your turn.
Uriel Iscariot: Notice [1d6 = 11]
[w] -> Dr. MacVellian: No and, for simplicity sake, yes.
GM: The demon is about thirty feet from you.
Uriel Iscariot: Quicken Self, Walk, then Run Action
Uriel Iscariot: Wait
Dr. MacVellian: D20 [1d20 = 18]
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): This isn't going to end well, I fear.
Dr. MacVellian: Wait, I know! We will all be safe if we kill the demon.
Dr. MacVellian grabs her shotgun and runs toward the demon.
Dr. MacVellian
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): DON'T DO IT BRAD
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): SAVE US
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): DO IT FOR THE NPC's!
Dr. MacVellian: AH HA! I will kill the demon single-handedly. Get out of my way Isabella!
Dr. MacVellian: Rita picks up where I left off
Dr. MacVellian: Repair [1d6 = 3]
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): or not...
Dr. MacVellian: D6 [1d6 = 5]
Dr. MacVellian: Blam! Take that demon!
Dr. MacVellian: RevolverShotgun damage [3d6 = 6]
The demon ignores Doctor MacVellian's shotgun blast and rushes to the front of the train to attack Isabella.
GM: The demon is now 10' from Uriel.
Uriel Iscariot: Run at it, and stab it with my normal Crucifix.
Uriel Iscariot: Fighting (Joker +2) [1d4+2 = 4]
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): HUGE
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): Bonus for the huge target!
Uriel Iscariot: Suffer the Fate of all who dwell in his shadows!
GM: You stab your crucifix into the demon's leg. The crucifix melts and you hand starts smoldering.
Uriel Iscariot: Burn in the filth of your own sin!
Summoned Demon: You first!
Uriel Iscariot: Guts {+2 Seasoned} [1d6+2 = 6]
Uriel Iscariot: (drive it deeper!)
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): I don't care if it is slag!
[w] Dr. MacVellian: How many rounds til train go boom?
Summoned Demon: Fighting [1d6 = 20]
[w] -> Dr. MacVellian: 8 after this one.
Uriel Iscariot: Strength (Joker +2) [1d6+2 = 7]
GM: The demon drops the caboose, the train car plummets into the gorge below. He picks up Uriel and uses him as a club.
Summoned Demon: Fighting [1d10 = 6]
GM: He swings Uriel at Isabella, but she dodges out of the way. Unfortunately, Uriel cannot say the same of the ghost-steel train where she was standing.
GM: [2d6 = 12]
Zach Dallas
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): Is the demon breathing fire of any sort?
Zach Dallas: Well, Rita, do you need me to do anything that would not require the use of the Repair skill and still give you a static bonus?
GM: No, but it is completely wreathed in flame.
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): is Tack on fire?
Rita Evans: Yeah, could you rub my shoulders? I am getting really tense and the giant fire breathing demon thing is scaring the crap out of me so I can't think straight.
Zach Dallas: follows orders
Rita Evans: Oh yeah, right there. A little harder. (big sigh, gets +2 on next repair check)
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): woohoo
Round 3
Dealing cards...
GM: Start of this round: Zach is standing behind Rita in the engine. MacVellian is standing on top of the ghost rock boiler. Uriel is starting to catch fire while being grappled and used as a club by a demon.
Isabella DeMerini: Back to the Abyss with you!
Isabella DeMerini charges and slices at the demon. It uses Uriel to parry.
Isabella DeMerini: Fighting {+2 Expert} [1d6+2 = 9]
Isabella DeMerini: Blood Blade damage [2d10 = 5]
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): Well, they don't call them meat shields for nothing
Summoned Demon bludgeons Isabella with the Priest.
Summoned Demon: Fighting [1d6 = 7]
Summoned Demon: Impact damage [2d6+1 = 9]
GM: Uriel goes limp from the repeated beating of his head on the roof of the train.
Zach Dallas
Zach Dallas: Procede to give +2 (hopefully stacking to +4) to Rita
Rita Evans: Oh yeah, that is good. Wow, you have soft fingers.
Uriel Iscariot
Uriel Iscariot: Spirit (Wound -3) [1d10-3 = 3]
Uriel Iscariot: Vigor (Wound -3) [1d6-3 = 2]
Dr. MacVellian
Dr. MacVellian: What the hell am I doing up here?!? I have work to do.
Dr. MacVellian: runs back to the engine
Dr. MacVellian: rita gets to work
Dr. MacVellian: Repair [1d8+2 = 7]
Rita Evans works the gages and dials, the pressure in the boiler seems to be decreasing.
Round 4
Dealing cards...
Isabella DeMerini: Priest, are you still conscious?
Uriel Iscariot: Blah...Yes.....
Isabella DeMerini: Good.
Uriel Iscariot: It'd be sweet if ya had something that fix this, honey. =)
Isabella runs up to the demon and with her right hand drives a small driftwood cross into the hand that is holding Uriel. The demon recoils in pain and drops the priest into the engine room.
She tosses the driftwood cross to Uriel.
Isabella DeMerini: Use this if I don't kill it.
Zach Dallas: You don't happen to have something for me, do you?!
Uriel Iscariot: Thanks....Again.......urgh
Zach Dallas: Like the personal notes to a Mr. Edmond Hoyle?
Summoned Demon: Fighting [1d6 = 11]
Zach Dallas: calling up after Isabella
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): Honestly though, It's pretty amusing that I hadn't gotten in trouble with a higher authority like that before
[w] Dr. MacVellian: What minor hindrance do I have for having the joker possession? It says in the book that I get a minor one.
The demon reaches over with its free hand and grabs her.
[w] Dr. MacVellian: Or, are you going with "roll d20 each time for new personality" as a hindrance?
[w] -> Dr. MacVellian: you don't get a minor, you get the random chart of doom, since I rolled that result twice and this is the second one.
Isabella DeMerini: Is that the best you can do?
[w] Dr. MacVellian: Oh, so instead of a hindrance, I get that due to the double whammy? Gotcha
[w] -> Dr. MacVellian: Bingo
The demon stomps its feet. The train shudders. The ghost rock car and the engine "bounce" into the air. There is a terrible grinding noise as the bridge snaps and cracks. The rest of the cars plummet into the gorge as the occupants scream in terror. The demon hovers there, holding Isabella. The engine, free of the weight of the other cars, surges forward on the tracks, sparks flying and steam pouring from cracks in the boiler caused by the impact.
Uriel Iscariot
Conductor: Oh...my...god....
Uriel Iscariot: Spirit (Wound -3) [1d10-3 = 6]
Dr. MacVellian
Uriel Iscariot: Vigor (Wound -3) [1d6-3 = -1]
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): My heart just sank when I read that
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): is Tack on fire?
GM: No, the priest is not on fire.
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): and the crowd goes quiet :(
GM: Repair checks for MacVellian and Rita.
Dr. MacVellian: Repair [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 2]
Dr. MacVellian is using a benny
Dr. MacVellian: Repair [1d8 = 4]
Dr. MacVellian: Repair [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 3]
GM: MacVellian and Rita work together to bring the engine to a halt.
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): My goal tonight: Make Rita a Wild Card
Conductor: (throws up)
Rita Evans: Wow, you have fast hands and a sharp eye miss.
About a quarter mile behind you, over the ruined debris of the track the demon continues to hover.
Dr. MacVellian: Thank you. (to self: Hmmm...maybe the bridge sabotage was just the cover story for this battle)
Isabella's glowing yellow sword flies out of her hand and shears off a wing from the creature. They both plummet into the river below.
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): Awww but she was already soaking wet earlier :(
Rita Evans: Right, I don't think I'm writing home about my trip to Carson City.
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): Did she happen to leave her backpack around here?
Zach Dallas: A good idea
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): She comes back as Isabella the White?
Conductor: Well, I think we are about 20 miles from Watkin's Field. Just up the tracks...I'm going to pass out now.
Zach Dallas: Actually, I'm not sure, but I think the situation has changed by far since you boarded the train
TADM: You have to wonder if maybe she comes back as "Isabella the Grey"
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): F
Conductor passes out.
Rita Evans: He seems rather squeamish.
TADM: WAIT FOR IT.
TADM: Any second now....
Dr. MacVellian: Notice [1d8 = 4]
Zach Dallas: Notice [1d6 = 5]
Uriel Iscariot: Notice (Wound -3) [1d6-3 = 1]
Dr. MacVellian: current situation, now that the train has stopped and the demon and isabella are gone
Zach Dallas: keeping an eye on Rita and the conductor. I want to see how they fare now that the nightmare is "over" and had a different end
Zach Dallas: focusing on Rita, if need be
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): conductor doesn't even have a name
GM: The train has come to a halt on the far side of the gorge bridge, which means you are in no danger of falling the hundred-plus feet below.
Dr. MacVellian: By the way Rita, I think Zach has something to tell you. About Samantha and Emma.
Zach Dallas: I wish I'd talked more about you, though...
GM: The ghost rock boiler hisses, sputters, and goes silent. If you are going anywhere, it is not on this train.
[w] Dr. MacVellian: Wait...wait, is Isabella being forced to replay this day over and over? Because she did board the train soaking wet
Zach Dallas: Alright, perhaps we should get moving toward town. We should probably try while it's cool out
Zach Dallas: First, though:
Uriel Iscariot: Lord, hear my plight......
Uriel Iscariot: Heal Self
Uriel Iscariot: Faith {+2 Conviction} +2 (Wound -3, Novice Power Penalty -2) [1d6-3 = 6]
Zach Dallas: picks up the conductor and drags him off the train
[w] -> Dr. MacVellian: Quite possibly. When she was standing on the roof of the train, she was wearing the white dress with blue sash under her duster. She was wearing her floppy wide-brimmed hat also. None of her clothes looked wet then.
Uriel Iscariot: gimmme....A minute.....urggh
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): I'm trying to see if he poofs when he leaves the train
[w] Dr. MacVellian: Crap. That's not good at all. Hopefully, we've ended that cycle.
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): Hmmm...I wonder.
GM: The conductor does not "poof" as he leaves the train.
Dr. MacVellian: Tries to remember the story of this particular crash again
Zach Dallas: Alright! That's some good news.
Dr. MacVellian: Kn Trains [1d6 = 5]
Zach Dallas: wakes up Conductor
Uriel Iscariot: Heal Greater {self}
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): OH SHIT!!!!!!!! My mech!!! Not again!!!!!!
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): lol
TADM: That took more time than I expected.
Uriel Iscariot: Faith {+2 Conviction} +2 (Seasoned Power -4, Wounds -2) [1d10-4 = 5]
Uriel Iscariot: Whew.....
Uriel Iscariot: Conductor!
Uriel Iscariot: Heal
GM: Based on MacVellian's memory, what just happened and the story she read in the newspaper do not match. She remembers seeing a picture of the train wreck. The engine and the ghost rock boiler were specifically shown in the picture.
Uriel Iscariot: Faith {+2 Conviction} +2 (Novice Power Penalty -2) [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 5]
Dr. MacVellian: My mech...my poor mech. Why does this world hate it so?
Conductor: Huh? What? AAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!
The conductor melts into the ground.
Zach Dallas: URIEL ISCARIOT!!!
Uriel Iscariot: :blinks:
Zach Dallas: WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU
Conductor: Noooooo!!!! I have a wife and kids.......you bastard.....I'll see you in HELL!!!!!!!!!
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): You had no name, you weren't important
Uriel Iscariot: Nothing is wrong with me. Remember that you are dust, and that one day you shall return to dust. I merely put a ghost to rest.
Uriel Iscariot: Let go, your bonds to this world are unholy.
Rita Evans: Umm...what's going on...wait...did you kill him? AHHH!!! Get away from me! You killed him.
Zach Dallas: gets between Uriel and Rita
Zach Dallas: Excuse me, I'd like to see her survive
Rita Evans: That poor man lived through a strange creature, a horrible train wreck, and then you killed him! What sort of monster are you?
Zach Dallas: He's an idiot. That spell ordinarily heals, but you are not ordinary anymore
Zach Dallas: Persuasion [1d6 = 7]
Zach Dallas: He somehow FORGOT about that
Dr. MacVellian: looks over the edge into the gorge for any sign of my mech
Rita Evans: Uh, what?
Zach Dallas: I'm pretty sure you happen to be dead
Dr. MacVellian: Notice (Shiny objects +1) [1d8+1 = 3]
Rita Evans: In the darkness, you do not see any signs of your mech. Perhaps in daylight you would be better off.
Uriel Iscariot: Abominations are walking mockeries to the order....His order....
Zach Dallas: That train was a wierd....time loop thing
Rita Evans: Oh, I'm pretty sure I'm not dead.
Zach Dallas: What year is it, my dear?
Zach Dallas: tosses another Future Coin
Rita Evans: October 31, 1877.
[w] Zach Dallas -> Uriel Iscariot: and YOU! Keep your heal spell to yourself
Rita Evans grabs coin out of the air.
[w] Uriel Iscariot -> Zach Dallas: I can quote you on that, no?
[w] Zach Dallas -> Uriel Iscariot: Every time
[w] Uriel Iscariot -> Zach Dallas: Ya know, it has saved you a few times. =)
[w] Zach Dallas: no, no it has not
Rita Evans: And I am supposed to do what with this? Do you have a light so I can see what you are throwing at me?
[w] -> Zach Dallas: Smarts check.
Zach Dallas: Smarts [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 5]
Uriel Iscariot: Let there be none without sight.
Zach Dallas: here's a match
Uriel Iscariot: Faith {+2 Conviction} +2 (Novice Power Penalty -2) [1d6 = 4]
[w] -> Zach Dallas: She snagged the coin out of the air, in pitch darkness.
[w] Zach Dallas: oh, that I noticed
[w] -> Zach Dallas: Just making sure.
[w] Zach Dallas: her first snag was enough of a surprise
Uriel Iscariot: And Lo, he who was without sight could now see!
Zach Dallas: Can't you read it?
Zach Dallas: I mean, I just threw a coin in pitch darkness and you caught it
Rita Evans: Fine, it was minted in 1878. So you have a counterfeit coin?
Zach Dallas: Close, but not quite
GM: Now that Uriel has made a light, MacVellian can see into the gorge. The car with her suit in it is at the bottom of the gorge, about three quarters of a mile away.
Dr. MacVellian: looks for demon and isabella (they both did have fiery objects)
Zach Dallas: having a counterfeit coin wouldn't allow you to read that in the darkness, would it
Dr. MacVellian: Notice [1d8 = 9]
Uriel Iscariot: Here Dr. MacVellian, let me go with you.
Zach Dallas: on the other hand, you just saw a giant, fiery demon land on top of the train and wreck havoc
Uriel Iscariot: :leaves some matches with Zach to make a camp:
Zach Dallas: so you know that supernatural exists
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): Do I see any path down to the bottom?
There is a smoldering corpse in the bottom of the gorge. The light from the burning demon shows a mangled and submerged Isabella. Neither one is moving.
GM: You see no path down, although since the bridge was built, there has to be one somewhere.
Rita Evans: Yeah, I have seen a few strange things in my life, so I don't scare easy. Not like the poor conductor that other fella murdered.
Uriel Iscariot: Well its good that you have me around, other wise you might lose track of where we are....ya know?
Zach Dallas: that idiot
Dr. MacVellian: I say we go down to the train now, make camp there, then head to town in the morning
Uriel Iscariot: One thing is for sure, It's gonna be hard for it to cover its tracks.....
Zach Dallas: Oh, dear I think I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Zach Dallas. The priest is Uriel Iscariot, and I believe you met Dr. MacVellian earlier
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): wait, what is MacVellian's first name?
Rita Evans: Well, I'm Rita Evans, in case you missed it. Oh, and you have nice soft fingers.
Zach Dallas: Why thank you.
Zach Dallas: Out of curiosity, did you know the woman on top of the train?
Rita Evans: She was a gunslinger. Some woman named, Sarah Angel, a vicious murderer. Probably a former lover of the priest, given how murderers all like to spend time together.
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): Nah. She's too old for him. And not a boy.
Uriel Iscariot: run to Isabella/Demon
Rita Evans: Well, maybe she's not a murderer, I guess killing people goes with the job.
Zach Dallas: What do you mean?
Zach Dallas: what job?
Rita Evans: Her job, being a gunslinger.
Dr. MacVellian: goes to the end of the bridge and searches for a path down
Dr. MacVellian: Investigation [1d4 = 5]
Zach Dallas: Huh, that would make sense. Did you know her personally?
Rita Evans: Why would a girl like me hang out with a woman like that?
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): Hmm given her gun skills, which middle name would be more appropriate for her: fallen, or palin?
GM: You see no downward path on this side.
Zach Dallas: Simply curious. Even women like that grew up someplace and have family
TADM: Fallen. She is not as evil as Palin.
Rita Evans: True.
Zach Dallas: *sigh* I suppose now might be as good a time as any
Zach Dallas: We have met two of your sisters, Samantha and Emma
Rita Evans: So, even gamblers with soft fingers have families also. Since you seem to know about mine, how about you tell me about yours?
Uriel Iscariot: You're the inventor. Go ahead and invent something!
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): I heard a very funny song on bob and tom a while ago about her. it involved her shooting santa's reindeer from her house
TADM: I bet you would have a path down already if you had a large burrowing machine.
Uriel Iscariot: Notice: Rocks I can blow out of the way to make a path.
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): do the supports of the bridge have rungs on them like a ladder?
Uriel Iscariot: Notice [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 4]
Zach Dallas: Sammy was...already passed on when we met her. Dark sorcery had gotten her and she was preserved as a poltergeist....
Zach Dallas: We gave her a proper buriel. She's currently in Coffin Rock's Cemetary.
GM: The bridge supports have ladder rungs on them.
Rita Evans: So, you are claiming my baby sister was killed in the past few days since I left on the stage?
Zach Dallas: Oh, no
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): There we go. Do they go all the way down, or are some missing/rusted/etc?
Zach Dallas: That's half of why I'm telling you
Uriel Iscariot: Down the ladder we go
Rita Evans: Or are you still stuck on this, "I'm from the future thing" that you are trying to pull off with these counterfeit coins?
Zach Dallas: If you get zapped back to the past you can get your family out of Coffin Rock before everything goes to hell
Rita Evans: Oh, I see. So if I'm in the past, and you are somehow talking to me through the future, I can save Samantha.
Zach Dallas: Exactly
Zach Dallas: That would really make my day
Dr. MacVellian: Goes down after Uriel (donning my work gloves first)
Rita Evans: Well, it is worth a try. What you are suggesting is not even the strangest thing I have heard today.
Zach Dallas: Emma as well, since she wandered into town around the same time we did, but got caught alone. I've got a really bad track record with your family
Zach Dallas: takes off hat
Rita Evans: Hmm...
Zach Dallas: Emma should complete schooling in two years
Rita Evans: That would....
Zach Dallas: she'll try to go to Coffin Rock unless you tell her you moved
Rita Evans collapses to the ground, gasping for breath.
Zach Dallas: Notice [1d6 = 4]
Zach Dallas: oh, crap
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): And of course, all of this assumes WE are displaced into the past, rather than the train being displaced into the future.
Zach Dallas: are you OK?
Rita Evans: I...I...don't feel well.
Zach Dallas: aw, damn
Manitou: This one was ours....and you denied us.
[w] Zach Dallas: I don't suppose I could take an edge that lets me hold other people's souls in me?
Zach Dallas: That I did, Joker
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): Have fun with that alone
[w] -> Zach Dallas: Tempting, but no. Not yet. ;)
[w] Zach Dallas: can I use Spellcasting to Deal her freedom?
[w] Zach Dallas: I'm out of bennies
[w] Zach Dallas: open target
GM: A wispy, vaguely man-shaped form appears above her.
Zach Dallas: returns hat to head
GM: MacVellian and Uriel are about halfway down the bridge supports by now. The air is getting noticeably cooler. Uriel spots ice in the river below. Also, the demon fire has completely extinguished.
Manitou: This one...we will claim her and take her...do not try to stop us.
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): good job mike.
A second form materializes next to her.
Zach Dallas: Really?
Rita Evans: ....cold....so cold....
Zach Dallas: And if I don't let you
Zach Dallas: pulls out a deck of cards, opens it
Manitou: Wait...the speaking one, he is much more to us...
Manitou: Yes...the Dead Man...hmmm....
Zach Dallas: Yes, cryptic words cryptic words, hmmmmmm
Rita Evans: (chattering teeth) Dead Man?
Zach Dallas: A small prick in my fate that I'm working out
Manitou: Dead Man...we will leave this one...in exchange for you.
Zach Dallas: Really?
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): Can Uriel or I hear any of this?
Zach Dallas: You honestly expect me to go along with that after you clearly mention how much more expensive I am?
Manitou: Yes, she can live, we make no further claim on her.
Manitou: You are expensive, but defective.
TADM: Not yet, but you will in a second.
Zach Dallas: Defective can be fixed. There's quite a lot for you to gain, here, even if it doesn't happen immediately
Zach Dallas: By the way, my name is Zach. Do you two have any aliases?
GM: Uriel and MacVellian hear a feminine voice whispering to them..."climb, climb skyward fast for your souls."
Manitou: Tweedle
Manitou: Twaddle.
Uriel Iscariot: Do you hear the voices too, Doctor?
Dr. MacVellian: Yeah. Thought it was just me.
GM: A gust of icy wind strikes you both on the ass and tries to push you out of the gorge. The female voice returns, "Fresh blood will make it awaken...let the dead rest."
Uriel Iscariot: UP WE GO!
Uriel Iscariot: Quicken{self}, if work, {Dr}
Uriel Iscariot: Faith {+2 Conviction} +2 (Seasoned Power -4) [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6-2 = 0]
Manitou: So, Zach Dallas, this exchange. You or the girl and the dimwits on the ladder.
Zach Dallas: OK, now you're just making it more likely for me to decline
Zach Dallas: But perhaps you would care for a game to settle this?
Dr. MacVellian: I guess I'll just have to build a new one
Manitou: Very well...we have better things to do with our time.
Dr. MacVellian: *sighs as I start climbing up*
Rita Evans: (gasps and starts crying)
GM: Ice is forming on the ladder rungs, if you touch them with bare hands, your skin starts ripping off.
Uriel Iscariot: Faith {+2 Conviction} +2 (Novice Power Penalty -2) [1d6 = 4]
Manitou: Thirty seconds to say yes, Zach Dallas.
Zach Dallas: Persuasion [Critical failure!] [1d6 = 1]
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): WHAT THE FUCK DICE
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT FOR
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): SNAKE EYESSSSSS
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): WHAT DID I DO TO MAKE YOU THAT UPSET
Manitou: I see. How about ten seconds then?
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): SON OF A BITCH
Manitou: 9
Manitou: 8
Manitou: 7
Zach Dallas: And when do you expect my soul?
Manitou: 6
Manitou: Now.
Manitou: 5
[w] Zach Dallas: can I tell how many manitou are here?
Manitou: 4
Manitou: 3
Dr. MacVellian: climbingclimbingclimbing
Uriel Iscariot: CLIMB!
[w] -> Zach Dallas: You'd guess 2, or perhaps 2 dozen.
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): ARGH
Dr. MacVellian: Strength [1d8 = 7]
Zach Dallas: Notice [1d6 = 10]
MacVellian and Uriel reach the top of the ladder. There are many spectral figures around Zach Dallas and Rita Evans.
Uriel Iscariot: DAEMONS!
Dr. MacVellian: Any that look familiar besides Rita?
GM: Everyone gets ONE action before the Manitou reaches 0.
Dr. MacVellian: Notice [1d8 = 4]
Tack (Uriel Iscariot): Distance to Manitou?
GM: None of the spectral figures look familiar. The notice check does not count as your action.
GM: The distance is about twenty feet.
Uriel Iscariot: Notice [1d6 = 11]
Uriel Iscariot: Stun (center Template over all targets)
Uriel Iscariot: Faith {+2 Conviction} +2 (Novice Power Penalty -2) [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 4]
GM: Several of the Manitou appear to be stunned by Uriel's prayer.
Zach Dallas: Vigor [1d6 = 5]
Dr. MacVellian: Vigor [1d6 = 5]
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): does the counting one stop?
GM: Yes, he stops.
Zach Dallas: when he hits 0:
Zach Dallas: You want my soul, then try to take it
[w] Zach Dallas: Deal with the Devil!
Uriel Iscariot: Foul wretches of Satan! End your seduction of the pure!
Manitou: HAHAHHAHA! There is no PURE here. This is bandying words with those already doomed to Hell.
Uriel Iscariot: Feel thy void in thy heart, and be consumeth with thy own despair
[w] Zach Dallas: I'm trying to suck as many of the still-active Manitou into the game as possible....
TADM: Holy...let me toss up the first five cards that Zach pulled.
[w] Zach Dallas: going for a stall-game here rather than actually casting. I expect a goodie bag at the end of this
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): and with my first five cards as AQQQQ, I succeed
The Manitou and Zach seem to engage in a battle of wills. Several of the manitous dissipate back into the ground.
Manitou: Dead Man...you are strong...very strong.
Manitou: You win this one. Take the girl and the others and go.
The shadowy figures dissipate into nothingness.
Rita Evans: That was...terrifying.
Dr. MacVellian: So, want to try again, Uriel?
Uriel Iscariot: :eyes narrow:
Zach Dallas: I AM BADASS!
Uriel Iscariot: Zach! You keep saying you've quit demons, but then I catch you with them again
Uriel Iscariot: =|
Zach Dallas: Shut up, jew
Zach Dallas: you have your nights out on your patron, I can have mine
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): ^.^
Rita Evans stands up, dusts herself off.
Uriel Iscariot: is shocked and apalled.
Zach Dallas: And I am having mine. That, good sir, was a massive, massive disagreement
Rita Evans: Thank you, the three of you.
Zach Dallas: Not a problem
Rita begins to shimmer and glow oddly.
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): Awww
She smiles at you.
Rita Evans: The others will find peace now. And I will see you at Fort 51.
Zach Dallas: We look forward to it
Uriel Iscariot: :blinks:
Dr. MacVellian: Rest in peace. Tell your family that we'll never forget them....Wait, what?
The letter from Doctor Bailey flips into view.
Rita vanishes into the ground.
Uriel Iscariot: .....
Uriel Iscariot: Demons.....
As Doctor Bailey's letter lands on the ground, the moon comes out from the behind the clouds. A spidery white script appears on it. The script reads, "P.S. My assistant, Rita Evans, has specifically asked for your help. She also said something about repaying you for a debt two years old."
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): Moonwriting? Really? No more Hobbit references, please.
Uriel Iscariot: Huh. Interesting.
Zach Dallas: AHAHA!
As you read this, a train whistle behind you shatters the moment as the Wasatch train from Grand Junction to Watkin's Field barrels past.
Zach Dallas: Unfortunately, I think this means she was unable to save Sammy
Dr. MacVellian: Except that we still don't how to get to Fort 51
Uriel Iscariot: That...is also good.
TADM: Actually, any 100% natural light in an outdoor setting would show the script.
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): I thought we read it outside the first time
TADM: "Natural light" requires you not be sucked into supernatural sheningans.
Dr. MacVellian: Is the wreck/demon/Isabella/mech still in the gorge?
Dr. MacVellian: Notice [1d8 = 6]
TADM: As in, the script would not show up from the time you left Tacheene's grip until you were moved forward to your own time.
GM: There is a lot of debris in the gorge below, yes.
TADM: In case anyone was wondering when the "sucked backwards in time started" it would have been when Tacheene was carrying you.
Uriel Iscariot: Well damn.
Uriel Iscariot: Lets get on movin!
[w] Dr. MacVellian: I meant the mech specifically. I didn't really care about the wreck that much
Kazemi (Zach Dallas): Wait, then we got that message two years in the past?
TADM: Yes, the letter was delivered two years in the past. The letter itself has some sheningans that you might eventually unravel.
[w] Zach Dallas: awww only 2xp...
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): Two questions before we call it a night. (Need to work in 3.75 hrs). 1) Any sign of the mech, Isabella, or the demon in the gorge?
Dr. MacVellian: 2) Any plothooks to show us how to get to Fort 51? I'm pretty sure none of us know how to get there, and that most folk have no idea it even exists
Answers to all questions will come in the form of miniquests.
My plan is to go from now to the group being ready to leave Fort 51 as the month-plus of miniquests.
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): kk
Uriel Iscariot: Cool beans
Nick (Dr. MacVellian): talk to you guys later, then
Campaign saved.
