He hears silence because there are no alive NPCs nearby and Kuutai seems to be lost in thought. Daichi is cleaning his katana. Ikuko is ordering her horde of minions around, cleaning up the place and finding derogatory and insulting things for Kazuki's corpse to do.

Borudaa's corpse dissipates into a white mist which glows brightly for a second, then rises through the ceiling and into the heavens. Most of Ikuko's skeletal horde crumbles into dust.

Corpsified Kazuki: things were pretty hairy there for a minute
Corpsified Kazuki pulls up the hood of his robe and tightens the front around his waist.
It appears that one of Ikuko's corpses is still there, and rambling on.
Hida Sashimi: Would you say that the experience chilled you to the bone?
Corpsified Kazuki: Yeah, it is a bit chilly in here
Corpsified Kazuki: I'm just glad we all made it
Hida glances outside and notices that the blizzard has ended and the temperature outside seems to be a bit warmer. The sun peeks through the clouds and there is a glint of green on the frozen trees.
Daichi: as am I

Hida Sashimi: Hmmm, I hope the village planned for a flash flood

Ikuko: We may still need them for the trip back

Matsuda Kazuko appears from nowhere, punches Kuutai hard enough that he loses 10 experience, shouts, "You are spoken for," then vanishes.

Kuutai explains to the wind and the universe that if I don't frighten the hell out of people, I'll lose my touch.

Sensei: Okay, so the question remains, are you going around the Frost Oni encampments or heading down the shortest possible path?
Masakari (Kuutai): Yes but you can get HURT with those booze meters.

Feneril (Ikuko): in the campaign I have been running, I have been slowly teaching my players (some of whom are new to RPGs) that not EVERY problem should be solved with combat
Feneril (Ikuko): One or two of them have had a painful experience with that lesson
Kuutai leads the group through treacherous terrain, and oni-infested, unforgiving cliffs
The group makes it down the mountain without incident, thanks to Kuutai's expert guidance. The snows are melting and Hida's off the cuff comment about a flash flood seems all the more likely. Around the four hour mark green is poking through the melting snow fields and the trees are no longer frostbound. There is no sign of any Frost Oni on your descent. At the five hour mark, there is an ominous rumbling coming from beneath your feet, and it seems highly likely that the disappearing snow pack is having some other effect on this ACTIVE volcano.
Masakari (Kuutai): If you want an ALL COMBAT SLUG, just do worlds largest dungeon. Non-Stop blood bath. No plot.
TADM: No, I'm pretty sure that there is also some dealing with traps.
Daichi: That is a bad sound
Ikuko: I suggest haste
Kazemi (Kazuhiko): There's also some plot in that as well
Corpsified Kazuki: Wow, that is brilliant
Daichi: watch your tongue

The group hurries along, and about fifteen minutes later finds Byakko and Yukiko hurrying towards them.
Byakko: Things are about to get very hot here, very soon.
Ikuko: Yes, it seems as though killing Borudaa has upset the volcano
Byakko: The rest of the village has fled to a nearby mountain, but we do not have time.
Byakko nods.
Ikuko: Then we shall have to buy you some time
Byakko: Yes, the Fire Kami is quite upset.
Ikuko: are there any streams or rivers nearby?
Byakko looks confused.
Kuutai: Why.....is the fire kami upset?
Hida Sashimi: Or, we could just go speak with the Fire Kami
Byakko: I guess I was not clear...the rest of the village is gone. YOU do not have time.
Kuutai: dat' git juz got' is mountain 'ack he did!
Kuutai: why wif da angry?
Byakko: I am not one to ask why a Fire Kami is upset.
Yukiko: Perhaps he does not like several thousand gallons of water suddenly pouring into his lava fields?
Kazemi (Kazuhiko): lol

Ikuko: Where is this fire kami?
Byakko: The lava fields about three hours distant.
Byakko shrugs.
Byakko: I guess he just needs to blow off some steam.

Byakko looks at Yukiko.
Masakari (Kuutai): they added volcanos to the terrain generator, and they have a basalt type, but they dont errupt.
Byakko: Use the charm to go to Tikaku.
Hida Sashimi: I'm sure he'll find some time to vent
Yukiko: It cannot transport you.
Byakko: I'll be fine.
Yukiko: Very well.
Yukiko looks at the group.

Yukiko gets out a small, ornate jade pendant of a fox.
Ikuko gets close to Yukiko
Masakari (Kuutai): I nuked some kids volcano base....it just eats the lava.
Masakari (Kuutai): Welcome to AZN women's names.
Byakko: I shall see you in your next life, your ladyship.
Byakko bows.
Byakko shimmers, turns into a five-tailed white fox, and runs off at insane speeds to the south.
Kuutai: Let's scram!

There is a soft greenish flash and you feel your bodies being pulled apart, then reassembled in the space of a second. As your eyes adjust to the your new surroundings, you realize you are a long ways from where you were. A very long ways...
Daichi: I think I may be ill
Corpsified Kazuki laughs
Corpsified Kazuki: Toughen up old man, you're too soft
Daichi grumbles
Kuutai: says the one with no guts.

Corpsified Kazuki looks around
The air is sticky and humid, and you standing in the ruins of some ancient shrine. You have appeared standing inside a circular ring. Looking beyond the crumbled walls reveals that you are in a vast and apparently abandoned field of ruins. The crash of the surf can be heard in the distance, although it looks like wherever you are standing is atop a cliff, so there is no immediate way to the ocean from here.
Daichi: That I cannot say
Daichi: But we are not being burned alive
Daichi: so it is an improvement
Kuutai: Smarts [1d10 = 9]
Feneril (Daichi): Is yukiko still with us?
Daichi: Notice [1d6 = 9]
Kuutai: Say Yukiko...where are we now?
Yukiko: We are in the ruins of Tikaku, in what was known as the province of Sakura in happier times.
Yukiko pulls a map from her pack and unrolls it.
Hida Sashimi: What happened to your father and the rest of the villagers?
Yukiko: They fled, they will be fine.
Hida Sashimi: But, didn't he say he fled here?
Yukiko: No, he fled with the rest of his people to a nearby mountain. The charm I used cannot transport kitsune.
Corpsified Kazuki: Well, I'm just glad it could transport us
Yukiko: Yes, although we are not as safe here as it we once would be.
Daichi: You are a selfish and heartless man, would you have shed even a single tear if the villagers had perished as a result of our actions?
Kuutai: But whatever entity empowers it, it does not mind the undead?
Yukiko looks at Kuutai.
Kazemi (Kazuhiko): HE KNOWS
Yukiko: It is less a matter of undead and more an issue of disliking kitsune.
Feneril (Corpsified Kazuki): YEAH, I AM NOT A SKELETON OR ANYTHING

Yukiko takes out a key and opens the box, then hands Kuutai several silver wing tengu feathers.

Ikuko: Or, if you see a boy you like on the way to town, we can bag him for you
Ikuko: Arranged marriages can be a downer, I chose my own husband and it has worked out tremendously

Yukiko lifts up a foot and stomps on the box.

Kuutai: Im 16. I just aged fast after drinking too many energy drinks?

There is a peal of thunder overhead and the sky turns bright red for a second. Then a red cloud descends from the heavens and settles about fifteen feet above the group. It swirls down into a vaguely humanoid shape and blood swirls within it. It congeals into a humanoid form, then skin forms over it, then clothes. About three minutes later a fully formed, equipped, and ready to move samurai stands before you. He has no distinguishing marks or anything that marks him as unusual, although Kuutai swears he has seen this guy before.
Kuutai: Smarts [1d10 = 8]
Corpsified Kazuki: EEP
Corpsified Kazuki: Stealth [Critical failure!] [1d8 = 1]
Kazuhiko brushes himself off
Kazuhiko bows to Yukiko
Kazuhiko: Thank you for that, my lady
Kazuhiko turns to the rest of the group
Corpsified Kazuki tries to dive behind a tree but dives into it instead, bangs his head and falls face first into the ground

Daichi laughs
Kazuhiko: My name is Kazuhiko. It's a pleasure to meet you.

Ikuko bows
A white seeping mist comes from the remnants of the box and swirls around Yukiko's legs for a couple seconds, then vanishes.
Hida Sashimi: Um, hello. I am Hida Sashimi
Ikuko: Were is it that you come from, that you must arrive with such aplomb?

Kuutai: You? Why?
Daichi looks at Kazuhiko's armor and weapons and nods approvingly.
Kazuhiko: Quite far away, but I've been waiting for this since the volcano started erupting. I'll be traveling with you to help ensure Yukiko-sama's safety.
Kazuhiko looks at Kuutai
Corpsified Kazuki: The volcano only started erupting a couple of hours ago
Kazuhiko: What do you mean?
Corpsified Kazuki: Were you anywhere before that?
Ikuko: Kazuki, don't be rude
Kazuhiko: I'm from the village, but I have been out on errands for a while. I didn't even make it back yet, but I assume since Yukiko-sama is fine that Byakko-sama and the rest of the villagers escaped unharmed.
Corpsified Kazuki: So we heard
Daichi: You could pretend to care, at least a little
Yukiko: We did, thank you for your concern.
Corpsified Kazuki: You can ignore him, he hasn't been the same since he was possessed by an evil mask of horror
Kazuhiko frowns

Ikuko: Well, this has been such an exciting day
Ikuko: But we really should get to a town somewhere, I am desparate for a bath and a real bed
Yukiko: We should be moving, as Ikuko suggested. We are within the territory of Rirazu. He resides not far from here within the Stone Sanctuary.
Ikuko: And where is Akemi, she will be worried sick about her little butter-ball
Ikuko pinches Hida Sashimi's cheek

Zombie Turtle does the "I'm watching you thing" to Kazuhiko.

The group makes it to the outskirts of Kunen. It is a large Ikusan military outpost. Ikusan Heavy Bune reside in the port. The Wolf Banners fly overhead. A large number of factories pour black smoke into the sky as they churn out weapons and gunpowder. Everywhere you look, you see Ikusan soldiers, cannon towers line the port, and just from standing on the cliff and looking down into the settlement you see a number of void walkers patrolling the streets.
Yukiko: Hmm...something has riled them up.
Kazuhiko: This is rather unfortunate
Masakari (Kuutai): Yep. Were screwed.
Sensei: And on that note, we'll call it a night.
Kazemi (Kazuhiko): Only if they see us
