Savage Worlds Ruleset for Fantasy Grounds II. (c) 2009 Pinnacle Entertainment Group.
Kuutai: Quack!
Sensei: It's a duck!
Sensei: Any idea if the rest of the group is going to make it?
Sensei: Well, let's get started and if Mike doesn't show up we will just have a short night.
The group has a brilliantly drawn map of the mountainside, showing the possible lairs of Fire Salamanders, the location of Frost Oni encampments, and Borudaa's Lair, which Yukiko describes as the former home of the Champion of Uzume, in better times. Byakko and the rest of the villagers are nowhere to be seen. Most of the village has burned to the ground and the main doors of the "meeting hall" lie shattered where the clockwork Borudaa smashed them.
Yukiko whispers softly to the fallen villagers near the meeting hall.
Kuutai: Do you wisper to spirits, or people?
Kuutai: Thats what I want to know
Yukiko: In this case, spirits. The body is no longer listening. Although I guess you could assume that I have not answered your question.
Kuutai: Correct. Either human relations have reall frozen over here, or most of these people weren't very human to begin with
TADM: Oh, there was also a great line last week concerning Kuutai getting some information, sharing that with Kazuki, and it going right over Kazuki's head. Which prompted much lol.
[TOWER] Hida Sashimi -> Notice {+1 Def Interest} [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6+1 = 4]
Yukiko: Well, human has multiple meanings. Perhaps they have greater humanity than that demonstrated by most humans. But if you are speaking from a strictly biological point, then you are probably correct.
Yukiko looks at Hida.
Yukiko: Oh, Mr. Sashimi, are you feeling better? You looked rather ill after the battle.
Hida Sashimi: Yes Yukiko?
Hida Sashimi: I did? I don't recall feeling unwell
Yukiko: Oh, you seemed rather unwell after running out of the building after Byakko. You seemed to spend the last several minutes panting from the exertion.
Yukiko: Forgive my rudeness if you were not unwell.
Hida Sashimi: Yeah, I would call that unwell. And you were not rude for asking, so there is no need for forgiveness
Kuutai: That's not an answer. That's a question. Okay then what are they? I surmise your wisdom is fathomless and unique - indulge me.
Yukiko looks at Kuutai.
Yukiko: These villagers are Kitsune, of a clan that has dwelt on this island before humans first reached its shores.
Kuutai: Interesting.
Kuutai: Well, I think you really aren't that much of foxy lady - how are you among their kind? do they not usually despite humans?
Yukiko shrugs in answer to Kuutai's question.
Yukiko: They are servants of the Celestials, when their more...humorous nature...does not get the better of them.
Yukiko: I would say they are more shy and secretive than unfriendly towards humans.
Yukiko looks back at Hida.
Yukiko: I am pleased to hear that you are better. Although it seems that Kazuki has become ill and is throwing up behind that building over there.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Usual day of L5R: Mike - Try to beat Kip at Go. Tack - Kill party, or annoy party to point that they kill him. Nick - Try and actually move story along, and watch well-laid plans be destroyed by Tack being Tack
Masakari (Kuutai): What are you, skeletor? Brodude - Its over dude.
TADM: Yes, but you have to admit, last week's instance of Tack's master plan getting annihilated was highly amusing.
Masakari (Kuutai): That was comical beyond measure.
Kuutai: Very well then. Here, read this book in your spare moments, let me know if it rekindles anything in you.
Kuutai hands Yukiko 'Otsu and the Oni'
Yukiko looks at the book.
Yukiko: Hmm...I shall read this while you are in search of fire salamander fat.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): I will need to re-read the chat logs later. don't remember last week much
Kuutai: Oh snap!
Kuutai: Well then, Shall we depart and find those salamanders?
Hida Sashimi: Wouldn't fire salamanser fat be easy to find, but hard to keep? I imagine it would burn bright, but quickly
Kuutai: I have glass vials.
Kuutai: The real question is, are your hands up to the task?
Kuutai: Whose cuisine will reign supreme?
Kuutai glares at Hida
Yukiko: If you bring it back to me, I know how to boil it into a paste which can be applied to weapons.
Hida Sashimi: Therefore, I will claim the title "Zinc Saucier", which I just made up. Also, it pays double prize money
Yukiko: It does not last long, but it should last long enough for you to defeat Borudaa. Although I recommend making sure you are fighting the real one to avoid a repeat of your last encounter.
Kuutai: Well, a ravenous, hungry sword will do as well as a fire-salamander ichor-stained one, no?
Yukiko: I suppose, unless I can come up with a non-violent solution for Borudaa.
Yukiko begins flipping through the book Kuutai gave her.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Saw a trailer for Hobbit today. Looks full of WIN. They were actually singing the song about Smaug's attack
Kuutai: Indeed. I presume you should be fantastic at finding some sort of creative solution.
Kuutai: Hida. To the killing fields.
Yukiko: You have considerable faith in a girl who is 16...
Hida Sashimi: An all you can eat buffet?!?
Hida Sashimi: Where? It has been many cycles since I killed one of those
Kuutai: Your spirit is ageless, and your wisdom peerless. the container's age means nothing.
Kuutai: No silly. To the Salamander Lair.
Kuutai: Im all Fired up!
Kuutai: Let's do it with flare!
Hida Sashimi: I imagine it will be roasting in there
Yukiko: May your feet walk in the path of light and your souls not fear the darkness.
Yukiko makes a cryptic gesture in your directions.
Kuutai: Smarts [1d10 = 9]
Hida Sashimi: Let's not burn too much energy on anticipation
Hida Sashimi: Smarts [1d6 = 5]
Sensei: So you head off to the Salamander Lair?
Hida Sashimi: Let us be off. We have grilled her for enough information already
Masakari (Kuutai): Yes
Nick (Hida Sashimi): yes
Kuutai follows the map astutely
Nick (Hida Sashimi): When all else fails, just call Mike's house
Kazuki runs up behind you, looking rather ill like he just ate too much spicy food.
Kazemi (Kazuki): Sorry, stupid Fantasy Grounds would not let me join without updating
Nick (Hida Sashimi): So he's cajun up to us?
Kuutai: We were about to blaze a trail to the salamander lair. Glad you could come along!
About two hours later, the map has brought you to a lake of lava. Snow falls from overhead, turns to water, and evaporates before it hits the immense heat from the lava that bubbles and flows through the area. Rocks float along the current, which seems to circle around an island in the middle where numerous very large, glowing red, lizards lounge. The lake itself is about 300' in diameter.
Kazuki: Did anybody take Swimming?
Kuutai: I have a plan.
Hida Sashimi: Swim in lava? Isn't that called dying?
Kuutai: No. But It will require that you trust me.
Hida Sashimi: Same thing
Kazuki: Wait, that better not be your plan
Kuutai: Awww....what have I done to earn such ill-will?
[TOWER] Kazuki -> Notice {+2 Trapsense, +2 Alertness} [1d6+4 = 8]
Kazemi (Kazuki): Any signs of lizards to be recycled?
Kuutai: Ok ok. Whatever. Hida, do you have any hot-mits? Ya know, for cooking things that are supernaturally hot?
Hida Sashimi: Notice {+1 Def Interest} [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6+1 = 3]
Hida Sashimi is using a benny
Kazuki: "supernaturally hot"...
Hida Sashimi: Notice {+1 Def Interest} [1d6+1 = 4]
Kuutai: Ya know, dishes covered in otherworldly fire, hot beyond red, and into purple?
Hida spots a fire-onmouyji who uses a d10 based system skinny-dipping and singing about the awesomeness of fire salamanders and how much better Konoyo is than Rokugan.
Kuutai: Notice [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 5]
Masakari (Kuutai): really?
TADM: No. But he was specifically looking for Mokou.
TADM: And it is hot enough he might be hallucinating.
Masakari (Kuutai): lulz
Kuutai: Okay, well......
Kazemi (Kazuki): So, what do we need to get again?
Nick (Hida Sashimi): I'd call that a successful Paranoia check
Kuutai: Kazuki - you have any projectiles you can hit it with if i put it in your range?
Kuutai: Like, Instant kill?
Kazuki: No
Kuutai: I dont wanna ge tburned.
Kuutai: Argh
Kazuki: I did not take Shooting
Hida Sashimi: Let me try
Kazuki: nor did I take Throwing
Kazuki: I do, however, have a Reach weapon
Kazemi (Kazuki): can we just scrape the fat off without killing it?
Fire Salamander looks over at the group and yawns.
Hida Sashimi takes his least favorite chopstick, and throws it at the nearest lizard
Hida Sashimi: Throwing [1d4 = 7]
Masakari (Kuutai): Is the Lounge Lizard Island right in the middle?
Kazemi (Kazuki): I mean, I don't have the Obese hindrance, so I have a d6 running die
Fire Salamander is about 100' away right now...and is the closest of the Salamanders to you.
Kazemi (Kazuki): wait, how many salamanders are in here?
[TOWER] Kazuki -> Notice {+2 Trapsense, +2 Alertness} [1d6+4 = 8]
Nick (Hida Sashimi): So, Tik Tik roll? Got it
Sensei: Kazuki spots 7 Salmanders.
Kazuki: Hey, Kuutai, how intelligent are fire-salamanders?
Fire Salamander wonders if Hida fat can be converted into some sort of paste...
Kazuki: Also, do they tend to come to the rescue of other fire-salamanders?
Kuutai: I do not know if these are social mobs.
Kazemi (Kazuki): Are they all across the lava from us?
Kazuki: Do you know what they like to eat?
Kuutai: Ill snag one soon.
Hida Sashimi: Chile peppers, i'd imagine
Six of the salamanders are about 5' in length and probably weigh about 80 pounds. The big guy in the back is about 10' in length and you would guess weighs about 350 pounds.
Hida Sashimi: Let's call him "Newt Gingrich" for reference
The big one in the back is also more of a black color than reddish.
Hida Sashimi has been awarded a benny
TADM: Okay, that one was so terribad that if I reward it, maybe it won't happen again.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): You can only hope. And that one was pretty obviously, sadly
Kuutai: Oh very well.
Kuutai: Huddle up folks.
Kazuki huddles
Kuutai: Spellcasting [1d10 = 5]
Kazuki: We can make snowballs and throw them at Newt
Kuutai: You, Mr. Kazuki, are Lava-Proof for ONE HOUR.
Kazuki: I thought that said one round for a moment
Kuutai: That....would be many dead heroes...
Hida Sashimi: That is an awfully large lounge if they decide to attack
Kazuki walks towards the lava.
Kuutai: Hida...Come here.
Kuutai: Spellcasting [1d10 = 7]
Kuutai: Now you shall not sufffer ravages of the Lava.
Kazuki: Could I get a second helping of that?
Kazuki: It's still very hot
Kuutai: Now, 'ere'z da plan'boyz. Wai't 'ill one o'da small' one'z sep'aratez from dat WAAAAAGH. Den when it'z in da lava 'en no 'one'z wiz'enuff ta be lookin, snag it!
Kazuki: Why did you cast Pro-Elements on us if we're going to wait for a while?
Kazuki: Won't it just expire?
Kuutai: Well get out after 50 mins
Kazuki looks quizically at Kuutai as he wraps silk around one hand
Kuutai: Just stalk under the lava until one separates.
Kazemi (Kazuki): lol
Masakari (Kuutai): lol
Hida Sashimi: I'm sure Kazemi is just burning with excitement to try out this plan
Hida Sashimi: Persuasion {+1 Etiquette} [1d8+1 = 15]
Kuutai: Hey, im comming too.
Kuutai: Spellcasting [1d10 = 13]
Kazuki pokes his silk-covered hand into the lava. He neither screams nor bursts into flames
Kuutai: But Mine lasts for longer. =)
Kazuki: Hey, wait, if we can capture the Oni Lord, we could just bring him here and toss him in!
Kazuki: He probably cannot survive lava
Kazuki: Also, can you cast that spell on objects?
Nick (Hida Sashimi): We've all been burned today. Just not physically. The terrible puns will be forever burned into our memory. And the Chat logs
Kuutai: You are missing the point. The heroes are supposed to pass trials and recieve boons in order to overcome the evil ones. Not simply just capture and toss into a pit....
Kazuki: a pit of lava
Kuutai: Are you a yakuza, or a hero?
One of the smaller fire salamanders dives into the lava and resurfaces near a rock about a minute later. It then begins devouring the rock, as they evidently eat rocks.
Fire Salamander: NOM NOM NOM
Kazuki: anti-hero
Nick (Hida Sashimi): It's a fake Tack. He speaks blasphemy!
Kuutai: I bet the get sedimental about their meals
Kazuki how deep is the lava?
Fire Salamander: More like igneous, actually.
Kuutai: They can talk!
Kazemi (Kazuki): wait, can they actually talk?
TADM: No.
Kuutai: Goes to show you - don't take your meals for granite.
Kazuki: OK, here's my thought: we get some fat from one of them, then you Heal it and make it all better, then we run
Kuutai: Enough,. Im going in.
Kazuki: Thus, nobody gets hurt
Kazuki: It's the same thing that we do when Hida goes to dinner
Kuutai submerges under the lava, working his way to the separated one.
Hida Sashimi: Hey, I resent that
Kazuki follows
Hida Sashimi stays here. Since I don't recall "breathe lava" was in the spell list
Kazemi (Kazuki): we get it as part of Endure Elements
Kazemi (Kazuki): I think
Kazemi (Kazuki): I seem to remember Uriel being stuck in a well for an hour once
Kazemi (Kazuki): besides, you're definitely less dense than lava
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Good times
Kazemi (Kazuki): you'll float
Kazuki leaves his pack on the beach
Kazuki no point in filling it with lava to take home...
Kazuki brings his trusty Kusari-gama
Kuutai: Spirit [1d6 = 5]
Kuutai is using a benny
Kuutai: Spirit [1d6 = 7]
Hida Sashimi stands watch, making sure no one else followed us
Hida Sashimi: Notice {+1 Def Interest} [1d6+1 = 11]
[TOWER] Kazuki -> Notice {+2 Trapsense, +2 Alertness} [1d6+4 = 8]
Hida notices that the lava begins to roil and bubble. Thunder rolls along the top of the lake with enough force that waves cause the floating rocks to bob and sink. The Fire Salamanders all scurry into the lava and swim towards Hida as fast as they can.
The thunder grows in volume until it seems like it is actually a long, continuous, laugh.
Kazuki gets out
Kazemi (Kazuki): we are in something's mouth o.O
Hida Sashimi: Not the hot tub you were expecting?
The lava around Kuutai hardens into a solid black cocoon of obsidian.
Kazemi (Kazuki): wait, did I make it out in time?
Masakari (Kuutai): !
TADM: Yes, Kazuki swims out as fast as he can...
Kazuki: Kuutai! NOOO!
Kazemi (Kazuki): Well, he's got 2 hours...
Masakari (Kuutai): Awww....
The cocoon gets ejected on to the lake shore and lands with enough of an impact that everyone else needs to make an Agility check to stay on their feet.
Kazuki: Agility {+1 Pool Effect, +2 Acrobat} [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6+3 = 5]
Hida Sashimi: Agility [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 3]
Fire Salamander flies out of the lake as Kuutai is ejected and lands with a thud on the shore.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Nope. Didn't expect to
Fire Salamander: Agility [1] [1d6 = 5]
Fire Salamander: Agility [2] [1d6 = 10]
Fire Salamander: Agility [3] [1d6 = 1]
Fire Salamander: Agility [4] [1d6 = 4]
Fire Salamander: Agility [5] [1d6 = 1]
Fire Salamander: Agility [6] [1d6 = 4]
Fire Salamander: Agility [1d6 = 5]
Kazemi (Kazuki): WHAT are you doing with all those dice?
Two of the Fire Salamanders die on impact. The others (including the big guy) try to flee the area and run off in the direction of where the lava is not roiling like tides during a hurricane.
Fire Salamander: RUN AWAY! Even if I cannot speak - RUN AWAY!
Masakari (Kuutai): Mission. Accomplished.
Sensei: Actions?
Kazemi (Kazuki): is Kuutai still trapped?
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Are either of the dead lizards harvestable for fat?
Sensei: Yes to both questions
Kazemi (Kazuki): what is Hida's carrying capacity?
Kazuki grabs his pack
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Not as much as you might think
Sensei: Wild Die! [1d6 = 6]
Kazuki: Can you get either or both of the lizards out of here?
Kazemi (Kazuki): how entrapped is Kuutai?
[TOWER] Kazuki -> Notice {+2 Trapsense, +2 Alertness} [1d6+4 = 8]
Masakari (Kuutai): Obsidian is pretty tough stuff.....
Hida Sashimi: No
Kazuki: it's pretty fragile to impact, isn't it?
Kazuki: really?
Kazuki estimates that there is about 2' of obsidian between him and Kuutai. Fortunately, it is pretty ball shaped and may roll...
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Probably shredded him
Kazemi (Kazuki): AUTOBOTS, ROLL OUT
Kuutai: My advice is to wait about 2-3 rounds for me. Run for your own lives, We still have like ~50 mins before I'd die in there.
Kazuki glances at Hida to see what he's decided in this long, split instant
Nick (Hida Sashimi): What is the lake doing?
Still roiling, bubbling, and tossing up 3' waves towards the shore, which are getting progressively closer to where you are standing.
Masakari (Kuutai): lol
Hida Sashimi: Yeah, we should go. Why not take the tail or leg or belly? We don't need a whole one
Kazuki: You do that
Kazuki tosses Hida a wakizashi
Kazuki: chop chop
Kazuki runs over to Kuutai's ball and starts pushing it away.
Hida Sashimi looks for the fattiest part, and attempts to cut it off
Masakari (Kuutai): That's how I roll.
The lava nearest the shore gathers and swirls into a human shape.
Hida Sashimi: Oh dear
Nick (Hida Sashimi): delay last action
Kazuki pauses: maybe it's friendly!
An arm stretches from the shape, and a familiar looking black katana materializes in its hand. There is the long caw of a raven as the blade is exposed to air.
Fire Kami of Burnt Mountain: I say chaps, rather rude to go around dredging up soul-killing swords in my bath water.
Kazuki facepalms
Fire Kami of Burnt Mountain: Well, technically, bath lava, but you get the idea.
Kazuki points at the obsidian marble
Kazuki: To be quite honest, I'm surprised that the sword didn't spawn inside his chest
Kazuki: We didn't exact feed it last time
Hida Sashimi: We do apologizee for that. We meant no offense. As you can see, he is quite the blockhead
Hida Sashimi: Persuasion {+1 Etiquette} [1d8+1 = 5]
Masakari (Kuutai): nice!
Fire Kami of Burnt Mountain laughs at Hida's joke.
Fire Kami of Burnt Mountain: I mean, I don't just suddenly materialize in your cooking pot and burn all your food and try to kill you now, do I?
Kazuki: The Frost Oni tricked us with a machine
Masakari (Kuutai): You could said I was just a stoner.
Hida Sashimi: Tricked you, maybe
Kazuki: Tricked Kuutai, really
Fire Kami of Burnt Mountain: Ah, the Frost Oni lack the ability to make a machine. I assume you mean the Cold Smith Oni-Kaji who has taken up residence in Uzume's Hall?
Kazuki: Yes! That's the one
[TOWER] Kazuki -> Kn(Lore & Legends) {+1 Defining Interest} [1d4+1 = 14]
Fire Kami of Burnt Mountain: Hmm...rather interesting, my pet salamanders would be needed to make the paste to try and discorporate him.
Fire Kami of Burnt Mountain: Well, since two of them are dead, I guess you can have those.
Fire Kami of Burnt Mountain: Probably better than if you had killed all of them with your warmongering "heroic" ways.
Kazuki: I was hoping we could get some material and use Kuutai's Healing ability to fix them back up
Kazuki: But apparently SOMEBODY didn't listen
Fire Kami of Burnt Mountain: Ah, that was particularly clever of you.
Kazuki glares at Kuutai
Kazuki: Thank you.
Masakari (Kuutai): gazes back at you, like an expressionless statue.
Kazuki: I don't believe we introduced ourselves. I am Kazuki
Kazuki bows
Fire Kami of Burnt Mountain: I am the Fire Kami of Burnt Mountain. My name is a bit long and probably unpronouncable for your tongue.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Giving a stone-walled response, Kuutai?
[TOWER] Kazuki -> Kn(Lore & Legends) {+1 Defining Interest} [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6+1 = 11]
Masakari (Kuutai): No, just that this conversation got off to a rocky start.
Fire Kami of Burnt Mountain: Well, Kazuki, your large friend, and the blockhead...
Hida Sashimi: Pleasure to meet you. I am Hida Sashimi. Your newest lawn ornament is Kuutai
Fire Kami of Burnt Mountain: Ah, Hida Sashimi...why does that sound familiar?
Fire Kami of Burnt Mountain idly twirls the Widowmaker in its hand.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Let me guess....Akemi slept with you too?
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Not. Out. Loud.
TADM: Wow, you should make your wife sound MORE like a slut.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): should make, or sure make?
TADM: Yes.
Kazemi (Kazuki): have made
Masakari (Kuutai): but this customer really shaled out a bunch for her.
Kazuki: I don't know, why DOES that sound familiar
Kazuki looks at Hida
Fire Kami of Burnt Mountain: Hmm....ah yes.
Fire Kami of Burnt Mountain: Now I remember. An old friend of mine said that if a man named Hida Sashimi stopped by with two servants, I was to give him some things...
Hida Sashimi: Haha. He thinks you're my servants.
Fire Kami of Burnt Mountain: ...in trade for something that they shouldn't be playing with in the first place...I am pretty sure those were his exact words.
Fire Kami of Burnt Mountain looks at the Widowmaker.
Fire Kami of Burnt Mountain: Ah, it makes sense now.
Fire Kami of Burnt Mountain: Be right back.
Kazuki: I think you just saved Kuutai's life
Fire Kami of Burnt Mountain vanishes into the lava.
Kazuki: and soul
Masakari (Kuutai): Awwww......
Masakari (Kuutai): I feel like the kid in "a christmas story" if he got his red rider gun taken...
Kazemi (Kazuki): I don't know why you summoned that in the first place. We were going to try to leave them alive!
Kazemi (Kazuki): RIGHT?!
Fire Kami of Burnt Mountain returns with an iron bound chest that glows red.
Masakari (Kuutai): But I wanted a REAL weapon for Oni Slaying...
Fire Kami of Burnt Mountain sets the chest down on the beach.
Fire Kami of Burnt Mountain: I would uh...wait...until it stops glowing.
Fire Kami of Burnt Mountain: Although if you are fireproof, I suppose you could open it now.
Kazuki: We were just swimming in lava. Would it really be that bad?
Fire Kami of Burnt Mountain: Yeah, I am not sure how long your protection lasts though, wouldn't want crispy samurai on my beach. Very unsightly.
Kazuki: I agree
Kazemi (Kazuki): it's been...what, 10min?
TADM: At most.
Kazuki: We've got at least 50min left
Kazuki heads over and opens the chest
Kazuki: Thank you for your consideration, though
Hida Sashimi: If it's burning you up so much not knowing what's inside, why don't you open it for us, Kazuki?
Fire Kami of Burnt Mountain: No problem. Stay warm.
Hida Sashimi: Persuasion {+1 Etiquette} [1d6+1 = 12]
Fire Kami of Burnt Mountain: Oh, and one last thing....
Hida Sashimi: Yes?
Fire Kami of Burnt Mountain swings the Widowmaker at Kuutai's obsidian cocoon.
The cocoon cracks and breaks open.
Hida Sashimi: I always knew Kuutai had a glass jaw
Kuutai: Youve found a real gem of a person, ill give ya that!
Fire Kami of Burnt Mountain: Well, good luck storming the castle!
Fire Kami of Burnt Mountain dives back into the lava and vanishes from sight. (Yes, and he took the Widowmaker with him.)
Kazuki: So, what do we have in here?
[TOWER] Kazuki -> Notice {+2 Trapsense, +2 Alertness} [1d6+4 = 6]
Kuutai: Notice [1d10 = 5]
Okay, you are standing on the beach, the lava lake is placid again. There is a glowing red chest and two dead fire salamanders nearby.
Sensei: Kazuki opens the chest?
Kuutai: Chef? Do your thing. Thief? Do your thing.
Hida Sashimi harvests the fat while Kazuki opens the chest
Kuutai: I'll identify what's inside the chest.
Kazemi (Kazuki): Yes, unless my trap sense is tingling
TADM: Onmyoji, don't blow up anything else...
Kazemi (Kazuki): wait
Kazuki: Hida, take hold of the salamanders first, in case this teleports us
Kazuki opens the chest
The chest opens up. No trap goes off. No poison gas cloud escapes. No boom of thunder erupts. You do not get immediately teleported somewhere else. And no, Shino does not immediately teleport there with a hit-squad of elite Iron Fire Ninjas...
Kazemi (Kazuki): we could take her here...
Kuutai Braces himself
Inside you find very nicely wrapped....
Kazuki does not brace himself
A black-handled wakizashi in a bright red scabbard. A long thin cylinder that looks like a metal chopstick case. There is a small hand-sized bell, it looks like a miniature temple gong.
Kuutai: Notice [1d6 = 5]
Kuutai snags the bell
Kuutai: This one is meant for me.
Sensei: Unless you just received a whisper, you are not quite sure what you are looking at, but you have the feeling they are very valuable.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): :)
Kazuki: Well, I guess that leaves me with this wakizashi
Kuutai: you always were on the cutting edge.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): How successful am I with my harvesting?
Kazuki: Hida! I have a case for your chopsticks!
Kuutai: here. Try and hit this with that sword. It's probably rotten by now.
Sensei: Are you drawing the wakizashi out of the scabbard?
Kuutai tosses a pastry recived back at the Magic Loon.
Kazemi (Kazuki): OK, should I draw it here or try to draw it in combat with the Oni-Kaji?
Hida Sashimi: Are we done chewing the fat or what?
Kazuki draws the wakizashi
The blade of the wakizashi is flat black...it looks like a smaller version of the Widowmaker...then it occurs to you that the Widowmaker is a katana...and it probably has a companion sword to complete the set.
Kazemi (Kazuki): OH DEAR
Kuutai: Nice find!
Kazemi (Kazuki): NOT NICE FIND
There is no massive caw as it is drawn, but Kazuki is quite certain that he sees faces appear on the blade and then vanish back into the darkness.
[TOWER] Kazuki -> Notice {+2 Trapsense, +2 Alertness} [1d6+4 = 9]
Kazuki is using a benny
[TOWER] Kazuki -> Notice {+2 Trapsense, +2 Alertness} [1d6+4 = 12]
Nick (Hida Sashimi): How much fat do we get? If I need to roll, let me know
Sensei: Roll your knowledge (cooking) skill.
Hida Sashimi: Kn (Cooking) {+1 Food (Def. Interest)} [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6+1 = 5]
Hida Sashimi is using a benny
Hida Sashimi: Kn (Cooking) {+1 Food (Def. Interest)} [1d6+1 = 5]
Sensei: You collect enough fat to coat 6 weapons easily.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): From both salamanders, or just 1?
Sensei: Both salamanders
Sensei: It takes Hida about 20 minutes to dissect and collect the fat. What are Kazuki and Kuutai doing?
Kazuki takes a few practice swings
Sensei: Make a Spirit check
Kuutai I'm distraught. Now I have a mini gong....lol
Hida Sashimi: The power has gong to his head
[TOWER] Kazuki -> Spirit [1d6 = 23]
Kazuki swings the wakizashi around and it feels light in his hand and very high quality. It is the finest blade he has ever held.
Kazemi (Kazuki): is that including the Widowmaker?
TADM: Have you held the Widowmaker? Impaling it in you does not cound.
Kazemi (Kazuki): I suppose T.T
Sensei: Okay, so the group has collected their fat loot and heads back to the village?
TADM: :D
Hida Sashimi: Yes
Masakari (Kuutai): yes
Kazemi (Kazuki): Yup
Upon your return to the village, you find that it looks EXACTLY like it did when you first arrived. All the damage has been removed and everything looks as pristine and new as it did when you first arrived. The villagers are out working in their gardens and mostly ignore your return.
Byakko: I see you have made it back, and with the Salamander fat?
Kazuki: Yes. It turns out Kuutai can heal Salamanders after removing it
[TOWER] Kazuki -> Notice {+2 Trapsense, +2 Alertness} [1d6+4 = 7]
Masakari (Kuutai): lol
Byakko: Hmm...that must be an interesting trick. I am sure that Yukiko will appreciate your efforts.
Byakko takes the Salamander fat from Hida.
Kuutai: Thanks!
Byakko: It will be overnight before it is ready, it takes about six hours for it to congeal. You are welcome to stay in my house until the morning.
Byakko walks off into the woods with the Salamander fat.
Kazuki: Thank you
Sensei: Actions?
Kuutai: I....I am not evil enough to do anything right. I will mope in a corner. get me when its Oni-Time.....
Kuutai wanders off.
Kazuki heads around the village and inspects the repairs
[TOWER] Kazuki -> Notice {+2 Trapsense, +2 Alertness} [1d6+4 = 15]
[TOWER] Hida Sashimi -> Kn (Underworld) {+1 Yakuza (Def. Interest)} [1d6+1 = 5]
Kuutai finds Yukiko sitting by the town well, she is drawing a picture of a flock of birds.
Kuutai: Notice [1d10 = 6]
Yukiko: Were the three of you successful?
Kuutai: Oh, what a lovely drawing. Where exactly do you get such inspiration from?
Yukiko shrugs.
Kuutai: Yes, of course we were. We always are successful.*
Yukiko: Images come to me.
TADM: The asterisk there is almost benny-worthy.
Yukiko: Here is your book, I read it in the five hours that you were gone. Very interesting, Otsu seems to have been quite the heroine. I sometimes have dreams of doing things like what is described. Rather silly dreams of a girl who has lived her entire life far from the rest of the world in a small village on a mountain. I guess all children dream of being somewhere else.
Yukiko hands the book back to Kuutai.
Kuutai: Why thank you.
Kuutai: Hrm...so, if two parts of a flock separate, how do they find each other again?
Yukiko: When they need each other.
Kuutai rolls his eyes
Yukiko: Sir Sashimi, it was mentioned that you were married, tell me about your wife.
Yukiko pulls out a blank sheet of paper and begins sketching something.
Hida Sashimi sighs, like someone remembering a dream
Hida Sashimi describes her in vivid detail, but leaving out the non-age-appropriare details
Yukiko's hands dance across the paper and she hands Hida a very impressive drawing of Akemi.
Yukiko: Keep that close to you and maybe her love will aid you when all else does not.
Hida Sashimi: Very impressive. You should travel the world and share your art
Yukiko: Perhaps. I also like to play the flute and the biwa.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Let it be a light in the darkness when all others go out, is that it?
TADM: Something like that.
Yukiko: Most of the villagers tell me I am quite gifted with music and art, but I am sure they are just flattering me.
[TOWER] Kazuki -> Notice {+2 Trapsense, +2 Alertness} [1d6+4 = 9]
Yukiko rises and bows.
Hida Sashimi bows
Hida Sashimi: It is not flattery, but the truth
Yukiko: I must retrieve a few things from the house. Byakko states that you would be staying there tonight and I must get a few things.
Yukiko heads into Byakko's house.
Yukiko leaves a couple minutes later with a small pack and heads over to another house in the village.
Kuutai: So Kazuki, what's your new sword's name?
Kazuki: Kuutai-slayer
Kuutai =0
Sensei: Ready for the next dose of carnage?
Hida Sashimi: I suppose
Kuutai: BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!
Masakari (Kuutai): How many hours since the last gong-show?
Kazemi (Kazuki): don't you dare
The next morning dawns bright and early. Everyone feels remarkably well rested, better rested than since you left the Sleeping Loon.
Byakko: Here is your paste.
Byakko hands you 6 jars filled with a creamy white paste.
Kuutai: Thanks!
Kuutai: Does it work miracles on aches and pains?
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Must have taken forever to fill those jars. You must be exhausted, and very chafed.
Byakko: Well, it does warm whatever you put it on, so I guess if you need some heat-based pain relief it might work. Oh, I don't recommend ingesting it.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): OOC was intentional
Kuutai: What if i get stomach worms?
Byakko: I'd worry about what it does to your throat when it comes in contact with saliva.
Kuutai: I see. thanks for the warning.
Kazuki: So, it activates with moisture?
Byakko: Among other things, yes.
Byakko: I don't recommend throwing one overboard into salt water when you are on a boat. You strike me as the kind of people who would randomly throw something overboard just to see what happens.
Kuutai: But...
Kuutai: thats SCIENCE
Kazuki: Actually, Kuutai, you have water spells, don't you?
Kuutai: Sure do...oh wait.
Kazuki: We can make a combo attack!
Kuutai: So the plan then is, get it on someone, toss a water bolt.....
Kazuki: and KABOOM!
Kuutai: I like the way you think!
Kazuki: We should be friends!
Hida Sashimi: He's talking about a dream I once had, about someone throwing some meat overboard and nearly killing everyone onboard
Byakko: Well, I'm glad you have that sorted out.
Kazuki: Maybe we should test it out on Oni-Kaji
Kuutai: Sounds like a plan.
Kuutai: Well then, Shall we begin our ascent?
Byakko: Good luck, be careful!
Byakko waves the group farewell.
Kazuki: Good bye for now! We'll see you when we're done!
Byakko waits until the group is out of sight to plan for what to do after the TPK.
Kazuki: Can we get more potions before we leave?
Kazuki: Or have you already given them out?
Byakko: Absolutely!
Kazuki: I imagine it's going to be ridiculously cold
Kuutai: We can deal with that.
Byakko hands each of you 3 potions that act as Elemental Protection, duration 4 hours each.
Kazuki: Wow, you get really high rolls
[TOWER] Kazuki -> Notice {+2 Trapsense, +2 Alertness} [1d6+4 = 8]
Kuutai: Thanks!
Kazuki is using a benny
[TOWER] Kazuki -> Notice {+2 Trapsense, +2 Alertness} [1d6+4 = 21]
Villagers gather into a crowd and wave at the group like a very cliched group of peasants wishing some heroes well.
Kuutai: Don't mock me. They took my sword away.....sob....
Kazuki: But you got a gong!
TADM: You let someone else take the replacement sword...
Nick (Hida Sashimi): I imagine more like the scene from RotK where they are wishing them fairwell before they charge to their doom
Kazemi (Kazuki): I need a musical instrument too. Hida can use his chopsticks to play the Triangle, you have a gong, what do I get :(
TADM: With Faramir? That is probably a good mental image.
Kuutai: You have a sword...your music is the carnage of battle, the screams of your victims, and the cries of those you conquer! MWAHAHAHHAHA
Kazuki: I don't like that instrument :(
Kuutai instantly deflates, once again realizing that he has such awesomeness, not.
Kuutai: That instrument is the best!
Hida Sashimi: Not the type of instrument he meant
Kazuki: Tell Yukiko we said bye! We'll be back!
Kuutai: ITS AWESOME
Masakari (Kuutai): FREAKS PEOPLE OUT
Kazemi (Kazuki): have you played Amnesia?
You walk along the trail leading higher up the mountain, following Yukiko's map. Just as you reach the edge of the valley the trees thin, revealing drifts of snow and more snow falling in the distance. At the edge of the storm, Yukiko is standing there. She gives the group a warm smile.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Anyway, before we get even more side-tracked
Yukiko: Hello.
Hida Sashimi: I figured you would come with us
Kuutai: Hello, strange traveller. I do believe we have met.
Yukiko: We have. And I do not think it would be wise for me to come with you.
Kazuki: So why did you come up here?
Yukiko: I wanted to wish you well.
Kazuki looks a bit surprised
Yukiko gestures at the snow.
Yukiko: To see it, if you succeed in killing Borudaa the snow will stop and the mountain will revert to how it was.
Yukiko: When you have been around something your entire life, for it to vanish is quite a change.
Kazuki nods
Kazuki: I know what you mean
Yukiko: May you walk in dark places, and not know fear.
Yukiko makes a cryptic gesture at the group.
[TOWER] Kazuki -> Smarts {-2 Pool Effect} [1d6-2 = 2]
Kuutai: But...but...now I feel all warm and fuzzy.
Kuutai: Spellcasting [1d10 = 2]
Kazemi (Kazuki): nom?
Yukiko waves as the group heads up the mountain.
Masakari (Kuutai): (guess I wont know what she cast)
Nick (Hida Sashimi): nom
Masakari (Kuutai): not worth it
Kazemi (Kazuki): NOM
Kazemi (Kazuki): We have 10min
Kazemi (Kazuki): how is it not worth it
[TOWER] Hida Sashimi -> Smarts [1d6 = 5]
Kuutai: Spellcasting [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 4]
About an hour passes, and you spot a patrol of frost oni in the distance.
Sensei: Actions?
Kuutai: SLAY THEM, FOR GREATER GLORY!
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Any way to avoid them?
[TOWER] Kazuki -> Stealth [1d10 = 8]
[TOWER] Kazuki -> Notice {+2 Trapsense, +2 Alertness} [1d6+4 = 12]
Sensei: You could hide.
Sensei: There are 10 Frost Oni in the patrol.
Masakari (Kuutai): hide.
Masakari (Kuutai): they hit hard.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): hide
Masakari (Kuutai): No need to take damage.
Hida Sashimi: Survival [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 2]
Kazemi (Kazuki): coward
Frost Oni Group Roll: Notice [1d6 = 3]
Hida Sashimi: Unskilled {-2 Unskilled} [1d4-2 = 3]
Masakari (Kuutai): I dont have a vampire sword. I can be a little cowardly.
Sensei: Kuutai Stealth Check?
Kuutai: NoSkill [1d4 = 3]
Kuutai is using a benny
Kuutai: NoSkill [1d4 = 5]
Hida Sashimi is using a benny
Masakari (Kuutai): SNEAKY GIT
Hida Sashimi: Unskilled {-2 Unskilled} [1d6-2 = 1]
Nick (Hida Sashimi): uh oh
Kazemi (Kazuki): Wow, one stealth check and a TPK...
The Frost Oni patrol walks within about 20' of the group and does not seem to notice you.
Kazemi (Kazuki): OK, there's magic involved
TADM: (Something must be giving you a bonus to skill checks, and the frost oni rolled lousy on Notice.)
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Also, it's a co-op roll, Mike
Kazemi (Kazuki): yeah, but I didn't exactly explode
TADM: With your Stealth check, a success and a raise can happen without an explosion. :)
Kuutai: Well.
Kuutai: THat worked out well.
Heading further up the mountain, you reach a forest of pine trees...that have all been frozen solid. There is about a 1/2" thick layer of ice on the trunks and about a 1/8" layer of ice on all the branches and needles. It makes for a brilliant, blinding display of light.
Hida Sashimi: Notice {+1 Def Interest} [Critical failure!] [1d6+1 = 2]
Kuutai: Notice [1d10 = 9]
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Trapsense, +2 Alertness} [1d6+4 = 9]
Nick (Hida Sashimi): How badly do I want to keep the free benny?
Kazemi (Kazuki): we got 9's, don't worry about it
Sensei: That heavily depends on whether you would like to have a lot in common with Ikuko or not.
Kazemi (Kazuki): nonsense, ignore that silly Sensei
Sensei: And I don't mean the Edges side of her character sheet, I mean the Hindrances side...
Nick (Hida Sashimi): grrr okay fine. If you want more bad puns next week that badly
Hida Sashimi is using a benny
Kazemi (Kazuki): Hindrances aren't all bad. I mean, some of them even give you free Edges!
Hida Sashimi: Notice {+1 Def Interest} [1d6+1 = 4]
All right, none of you develop permanent snow-blindness. Next week you will get to either fight or sneak past some more Frost Oni, and then fight the Oni-Kaji, Borudaa.
Kuutai: Yay!
TADM: And everyone remind me next week that if you kill Borudaa that fight is worth double XP...which should tell you that it will not be easy.
Kuutai: XP!
Kazemi (Kazuki): so...6XP? :D
TADM: If no one uses any bennies next session, sure.
Kazemi (Kazuki): does that include the nom bennies?
TADM: Nope, I'll let you use Nom bennies.
