Kuutai: Spellcasting [1d10 = 5]
Sensei: Stealth checks for Kauzki and Kazuko.
Kazuki: Stealth [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 2]
Kazuki is using a benny
Kazuki: Stealth [1d8 = 19]
Kazemi (Kazuki): ROFLROF<LROFL
Matsuda Kazuko: Stealth [1d6+2 = 18]
Kazemi (Kazuki): Good benny spent
Sensei: Kazuki and Kazuko turn invisible. Kazuki beat her Stealth check by 1, so he is slightly more invisible.
Kazuki starts to giggle, but stops himself
Kuutai appears to mumble to the plants
Kazemi (Kazuki): attack roll?
Black Oni: Notice [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 5]
Sensei: Nope, with a finishing move like this, if they don't beat your Stealth check with a Notice check, it is automatic.
Quorteth (Kuutai): 0.o
Kazemi (Kazuki): Kazuki:1
Matsuda Kazuko: D4 [1d4 = 4]
Quorteth (Kuutai): Well here's your chance to actually catch up on kills.
Kazemi (Kazuki): Kazuko:1
Kazemi (Kazuki): Kuutai:0
Matsuda Kazuko sweeps with her Naginata and slices through four that were slumbering in a group.
Sensei: Stealth check number 2.
Kazuki: Stealth [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 4]
Kazuki: Stealth [1d8 = 7]
Sensei: Notice [1d6 = 3]
Matsuda Kazuko: D4 [1d4 = 4]
Kazuki accepted a Nom benny from Kuutai
Kazemi (Kazuki): arigato
Sensei: Kazuki stabs another one. Kazuko chops through 4. The oni are all lifeless and quite dead.
Matsuda Kazuko cleans off her Naginata.
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6+2 = 5]
Hida Sashimi: Well...um...that works
Kazuki cleans off his kusari-gama
Sensei: (I randomly rolled to see how many Kazuko would kill with a Sweep and rolled 4 both times, so 2 rounds, 10 dead oni.) Woot for that encounter.
Kuutai: Hrmpf. Bout time he proves his worth.
Sensei: A branch swings down near Ikuko and waves above her head.
Feneril (Ikuko): that took longer than expected...
Kazemi (Kazuki): like a magically animated branch?
Sensei: Kazuki has no way of knowing.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): The tree was branching out
Kazemi (Kazuki): Well, I mean if it was moving on its own or if there is an Oni on it
Sensei: Kazuki spots no oni in the tree.
TADM: Kazuki-no-oni?
Matsuda Kazuko: So let's collect this sap you were speaking of and be on our way. I am sure the smell of blood will attract other creatures.
Kazemi (Kazuki): that's the shapeshifter Oni
Matsuda Kazuko walks over and pats her horse.
Kazuki: We should avoid getting any sap on the outside of the containers, if possible. The less smell for them to follow the better.
Matsuda Kazuko is patiently waiting for the group to collect sap and flee.
Ikuko: Do Oni have blood? I always assumed they had some goop of pure evil inside their bodies
Kazuki: Kuutai, can I see your vials?
Kuutai: Uh....
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 7]
Kazuki: What did you do?
Matsuda Kazuko: I'm pretty sure it is normal blood, well, as normal as Oni get for blood.
Kuutai: Do not put medicinals in these vials unless you REALLY wash them out.
Kazuki sighs
Kuutai: I mean...unless...you wish to unleash HORROR, Mwhahahah!
Hida Sashimi: Can we hurry this up?
Kuutai erupts into uncontrollable laughter
Kazuki: Hida, do you have any vials?
Hida Sashimi: no
Kazuki: Crimany
Kazuki pours out his water flask
Hida Sashimi: I think Kuutai has enough viles for all of us
Kazuki: grumble grumble
Kazuki: Agility {+2 Acrobat} [1d8+2 = 7]
TADM: Nice Hida.
Kuutai: I can give you an empty, but we NEED to wash it out, find a stream or whatever.
Kuutai's laugh echoes oddly through the forest. A gust of wind howls through the glade and you are relatively certain that all of the shrubs and bushes near you just shivered.
Kazuki carefully fills his flask with some sap without getting any on his hands or the flask itself
Matsuda Kazuko sighs.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): I'd make a leaf pun, but the trees would kill me
Kazemi (Kazuki): I'm not directly touching the handle, btw. I'm using a few of my spare bandages to take the blow, if need be.
Sensei: Kazuki successfully collects some sap.
Sensei: No rampant Void magic, electrical shocks, or zombie horde attacks Kazuki (yet)
Kuutai: Well, thats very clever of you.
Kazuki: Can you burn this?
Kazuki tosses the bandage on the ground
Kuutai: Spellcasting [1d6 = 3]
Hida Sashimi: Notice [1d6 = 5]
Feneril (Ikuko): Man up, take a sip
Kuutai is using a benny
Kuutai: Spellcasting [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 4]
Kuutai: Bolt damage [2d6 = 10]
Sensei: So let me make sure I know what you are doing? You are shooting a Void-powered bolt at a bandage on the ground?
Kazuki: Hm, come to think of it, I wonder if Void magic will draw unnecessary amounts of attention.
ALL RIGHT! BRING IT ON!
Feneril (Ikuko): What is wrong with matches?
Feneril (Ikuko): When I need to light a candle, I don't resort to firing deadly void bolts at it...
Kazuki: Magic looks cooler
Kazemi (Kazuki): I have matches and oil, btw
The bolt strikes the bandage and it erupts into bright blue flames. The branches on the trees begin swaying wildly and the roots rip themselves from the ground. Howls of rage echo through the forest. It sounds like thousands of ravens have taken flight and the beating of their wings creates a malestrom of wind.
Ikuko: That sounds bad.
Kazuki: Spirit [1d6 = 5]
Kazuki: Persuasion (Acting) {+1 Defining Interest} [1d6+1 = 10]
Daichi: I agree.
Kazuki: It looks bad, too
Kazuki: So....I think we should leave
Thunder rolls down from the mountains.
Hida Sashimi: Agreed
Kazemi (Kazuki): Avalanche!
Kazemi (Kazuki): of thunder!
Matsuda Kazuko nods to her horse, who heads out quickly with Ikuko.
Ikuko: Wheee!!!
Matsuda Kazuko follows the horse.
Kazuki chases after Kazuko
Kazuki: Wait for me!
Daichi runs after Ikuko.
Hida Sashimi follows at a non-heartattack-inducing pace
Kazemi (Kazuki): HIda Sashimi does not move
Sensei: Agility checks for everyone not on a horse.
Kuutai: Spirit [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 5]
Matsuda Kazuko: Agility {+2 Acrobat} [1d10+2 = 11]
Hida Sashimi: Agility [1d4 = 3]
Kuutai: Agility [1d4 = 6]
Hida Sashimi is using a benny
Hida Sashimi: Agility [1d6 = 4]
Daichi: Agility [1d6 = 4]
Kazuki: Agility {+1 Escaping!, +2 Acrobat} [1d6+3 = 8]
Feneril (Ikuko): You took "escaping" as a defining interest?
Kazemi (Kazuki): yes
TADM: It actually fit with his backstory.
Sensei: Branches and roots flail all around the group as you run along. Everyone (even Hida) manages to dodge the swarming branches as they try to knock you down and trap you in their grasping roots.
Kuutai (Sylvan): You Bastage Trees! You would harm simple people, who have rid you of oni?
Matsuda Kazuko: Well old friend, I see you still have a way of antagonizing all the naturally occuring fauna and flora around you.
Hida Sashimi: So he does not floor the flora, and the fauna do not fawn over him?
Ikuko: Not just fauna and flora, he can antoganize just about anyone
Matsuda Kazuko (laughs): Precisely.
Kazuki: This reminds me of that time I ran into Akizen
Sensei: MOAR Agility checks, at a -2 this time.
Sensei: Unless you are on a horse.
Kuutai: Agility [1d4 = 5]
Kazuki: Agility {+1 Escaping!, +2 Acrobat} (-2) [1d8+1 = 7]
Hida Sashimi: Agility (-2) [1d4-2 = 0]
Kuutai is using a benny
Daichi: Agility (-2) [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6-2 = 6]
Kuutai: Agility [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 2]
Hida Sashimi is using a benny
Hida Sashimi: Agility (-2) [1d4-2 = 0]
Kazemi (Kazuki): wow
Matsuda Kazuko: Agility {+2 Acrobat} [1d10+2 = 11]
Feneril (Ikuko): Fat people falling down is always funny
Kazemi (Kazuki): Nom for Kuutai!
Kuutai: Agility [1d4 = 7]
Kazuki: Wait, Hida, you're not going to fit through that gap!
Feneril (Ikuko): I'll nom Hida if he needs it
Matsuda Kazuko dodges, dives, and twists her way through the barrage of flailing limbs like she is a world-class gymnast.
Hida Sashimi: Agility [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 9]
Sensei: Woot!
Kazuki dodges, dives, and twists his way through the barrage of tree branches like he's done this before
All right, the group manages to escape the angry section of the forest and gets back to a more normal environment.
I imagine Hida getting out of this situation while screaming, "OH YEAH!" and leaving Kool-Aid Man shaped holes in trees.
Kuutai: If only we had a Bootanist, we'd have known what would set off haunted trees.
Kazemi (Kazuki): LOL
TADM: Whoops, that was supposed to be OOC.
Hida Sashimi: OH YEAH! F' you, doctors that said I need to eat more fiber!
Feneril (Ikuko): It works better as GM chat
Feneril (Ikuko): Because then it really happened
Sensei: All right, you have escaped the near Kazuki/Kuutai induced TPK from the non-combat situation and return to the encampment where Ikuko's people are hanging out.
Kazuki: Did you guys hear anything strange while we were gone?
Matsuda Kazuko: So now we return to the village you were telling me about to give the sick child the black tar?
Daichi: Kuutai, you are dangerous and stupid. Also, I can start fires, if the need should arise again...
Hida Sashimi lays in cart panting
Satsuki: Nope, there was a big fox here that was doing tricks for meat. It managed to distract us most of the day. He left about 15 minutes ago.
Hida Sashimi: No...more...walking *gasp*...today
Kazuki: Basically. And I imagine we'll have some spare sap as well. It should keep well enough in a water flask, right?
Kazuki: Dammit, I missed the fox again
Akemi: I suspect the fox was protecting us from whatever you unleashed on the world.
Kazuki points to Kuutai
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Kuutai's stupidity?
Kuutai: Daichi....You stabbed me once. Badly. Don't talk to me about error, especially when I listend to the assassin here - he looked so cool doing that i assumed he knew what he was doing!
Kazuki: 100% that guy
Daichi: You are both dangerous.
Satsuki: Umm...you just said that you thought Kazuki knew what he was doing....with a straight face.
Kuutai: I unleashed nothing. Plants just have a really sappy sense of maintaing the balance of this world.
Satsuki laughs hysterically until she starts crying.
Daichi gestures from his eyes to Kuutai and Kazuki.
Satsuki develops hiccups from laughing so hard.
Akemi: Anyway, dinner is ready.
Kazuki: Well, thanks for the vote of confidence, Satsuki
Kazuki: Yay food!
Kazuki: Thanks Akemi!
Kuutai: ...Okay...I suppose that is quite humorous. But...he just got a 4 kill streak! He HAD to KNOW. (soo cool!)
Hida Sashimi: Mmm food
Akemi: The nice people in the nearby village gave us a bunch of river eel. Evidently there was a big run of them earlier and they had more than they wanted.
Akemi: So we are having unagi rice bowls.
Hida Sashimi: Kn (Regional Cuisine) [1d4 = 3]
Akemi looks happy with herself.
Kazuki: Smarts [1d6 = 9]
Hida Sashimi dines politely
Kazuki: Ooh, I'm looking forward to it
Hida Sashimi: Etiquette {+1 Def. Interest} [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6+1 = 5]
Ikuko: I'm sure it will wonderful Akemi.
Kazuki: Persuasion (Acting) {+1 Defining Interest} [1d6+1 = 16]
Kazuki mimics Hida
Kazemi (Kazuki): in manners, not motion for motion.
Akemi gives Hida an extra big helping with the Unagi artistically arranged and mixed with colorful vegetables.
Akemi gives Kazuki a normal bowl with no vegetables.
Quorteth (Kuutai): Oh boy here it comes.
Matsuda Kazuko brushes and takes care of her horse.
Matsuda Kazuko: Good job Tomoe.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Damnit
Kuutai waits for a bowl filled with rotten eel
Kazuki: Good thing she came with us
Kazuki: I can only imagine Ikuko's agility checks
Satsuki wipes away tears and recovers from hiccups.
Satsuki: So shall I have the servants ready to move the camp in the morning?
Kazuki: That sounds like a good plan to me
Sensei: Uh oh. I think Fen's battery just croaked.
Satsuki: Well, it looks like Lady Ikuko has just come down with some sort of illness. Daichi, the rest of the servants, and I will remain her to care for you while you head back to the village with the boy.
Matsuda Kazuko: I'll go with the three of you, as I suspect that Ikuko will be fine here near the village of oni hunters.
TADM: Do you magically have power back?
Feneril (Ikuko): No, that was my laptop going into powersave mode
Feneril (Ikuko): it shit canned my wifi
Feneril (Ikuko): I turned it back on
Feneril (Ikuko): but it will go for good in a little while
Feneril (Ikuko): I wish my power were back, it is 44 degrees in my apartment because my heat is electrical
Kazemi (Kazuki): lol
TADM: Ah, so "room temperate alcoholic beverages" are actually chilled? That is good and bad.
Kazemi (Kazuki): That's rather unfortunate
Feneril (Ikuko): yeah, I know
Feneril (Ikuko): At least my food won't spoil!
Feneril (Ikuko): Also, my apartment apparently has really shitty insulation
Kazemi (Kazuki): yeah, that's a terrible thing to suddenly discover
TADM: All apartments do. My 4000 square foot house has lower electrical/gas bills than my 900 square foot apartment did.
Okay, so Ikuko recovers from her sudden GM-induced illness. The night passes uneventfully and the next morning everyone heads out to help Takumi's son.
Kuutai Looks at the sun rising overhead.
You make the journey without serious incident (unless player's wish to cause one) and reach the house on the outskirts of the village.
Kuutai: I think i liked the forest better. It's too bright!
Takumi: Hello! Welcome back!
Hida Sashimi: Hello sir
Kazuki: Hello
Kazuki: How's your son?
Ikuko: I hope we are here in time to help
Takumi: He is getting worse. I am so worried for my only child. Thank you for doing this for me.
Kazuki: No problem
Kazuki: Kn(Lore & Legends) {+1 Defining Interest} [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6+1 = 6]
Takumi: If you have the black tar, please take it to the village elder so that he can make the curative as quickly as possible.
Kazemi (Kazuki): how much would the kid have to drink/eat?
Kazemi (Kazuki): Good enough
Kazuki: OK
Kazuki Heads over to the village elder
Kuutai points to the elder's hut, having been there
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [Critical failure!] [1d6+2 = 3]
Kazuki: That is a river, not a hut
Matsuda Kazuko forcibly rotates Kazuki 180 degrees, so he is looking in the right direction.
Takumi looks at Kazuko.
Ikuko: I thought I Was the blind one?
Takumi gives Hida a sly look and nudges him.
Takumi (whispers): You sure know how to attract beautiful women.
Kazuki: Oh, that would be a hut
Kazuki: Thanks, Kazuko, you're better at directions than Kuutai
Hida Sashimi: I do my best :)
Kuutai rushes to the Elder.
Kiyoshi the Elder: I see you have returned.
Kuutai: Yes. We have the tar,
Kuutai gestures Kazuki
Kazuki: Plenty of it
Kuutai: How long with the preparation take?
Kazuki holds out his waterskin
Kiyoshi the Elder: Excellent, I shall begin mixing the ingredients at once. Tell Takumi not to worry, I will be done in a few hours and by the end of the week, his only child will be running with the other children in the village again.
Kiyoshi the Elder takes waterskin and heads into hut.
Kuutai: Kazuki, let us take up watch while he brews it.
Kazuki: Sure
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 7]
Kuutai: There's no telling how sensitive those Oni are.
Kuutai: Notice [1d10 = 12]
Ikuko: When you emphasize the "only child" part, it sounds somewhat nefarious
Kiyoshi the Elder: Eh...oh sorry. Takumi and his wife are just so protective of the boy.
Sensei: As the day passes and Kiyoshi brews the potion, no rampaging oni are seen charging/flying/burrowing towards the village.
Hida Sashimi chats with Atemi for a while
Hida Sashimi: Kn (Regional Cuisine) {+1 Def. Interest} [1d4+1 = 3]
Kiyoshi the Elder: They are quite worried about his health, naturally, as his wife almost died in childbirth to have him.
Ikuko: Perhaps they should be more worried about her health.
Kazemi (Kazuki): wait, doesn't he have a daughter as well?
Kazuki has been awarded a benny
TADM: Wow, I only had to say "only child" several times before someone caught on...
Feneril (Ikuko): He is the Japanese Joseph Friezl, his daughter is his wife
TADM: Or Woody Allen...
Feneril (Ikuko): Or Morgan Freeman
Akemi politely and demurely points out interesting things about Regional Cuisine to Hida.
Kazuki: Wait, doesn't Takumi have a daughter?
Kiyoshi the Elder: Err...what?
Kazuki: Uh oh
Kiyoshi the Elder: No, he's never had a daughter.
Kiyoshi the Elder: Only one son, about four winters in age.
Kazuki: OMG THEN WHO DID I GIVE THE TOP TO
Kazuki: When we were here last time, there was a little girl there as well
Kiyoshi the Elder shrugs.
Kuutai Shows off his collectors edition Doll-chan
Kiyoshi the Elder: Perhaps one of the neighbor's daughters was visiting?
Kuutai: Not sure about that....
Kazuki: I'm 90% certain that they said she was their daughter
Akemi makes some sweets with Red Bean paste for Hida.
Kazuki heads off to Takumi
Kazuki: Takumi, do you remember the night we stayed here?
Kiyoshi the Elder: Perhaps you were not listening well...and then wander off in the middle of conversations with people?
Kiyoshi the Elder goes back to brewing the potion, since Kazuki rudely wandered off.
Kazuki is panicking
Takumi: Oh yes? How is the potion coming?
Kuutai: Keeps a vigilant guard.
Kazuki: Forget about the potion, the night that we spent with you guys, who was in the hut with us?
TADM: Ikuko might be sick again. I hope it is not MORNING SICKNESS!
Kazuki: ROFL
Kazemi (Kazuki): Supposed to be OOC, but I hit space instead
TADM: EVIL LAUGHTER ECHOES THROUGHOUT ALL OF KONOYO!
TADM: BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!
Kazemi (Kazuki): It's not Kazuki's laughter.
Takumi: Umm..my wife, son, and I?
Kazuki: Do you remember Chiri?
Takumi: Ah yes, the angry, sullen, woman who played beautiful music?
Takumi: Some of it nice, some of it rather morbid?
Kazuki: OK, have you ever had a daughter?
Kuutai: Who adored this doll?
Takumi looks baffled by both questions.
Kazuki: There was a girl in the hut with us, she said something to Chiri which made her actually nice
Takumi: I have no idea, I have never seen that doll before...and my wife wanted a daughter, but it has never happened.
Takumi scratches head.
Kazuki: I gave her one of my custom tops and she was playing with your son
Kuutai: Smarts [1d10 = 14]
Kazuki: Kn(Lore & Legends) {+1 Defining Interest} [1d4+1 = 6]
Takumi: You are playing with me? Like a funny joke? Not too funny, but since you did me this favor I will not take offense.
Kazuki: Smarts [1d6 = 3]
Kuutai: What is the year, hour and day, If thee know it? (and smarts check for what it should be)
Takumi gives the correct Year, Hour, and Day to Kuutai.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): while Kazumi's head explodes, I'm going to get food. brb
Kuutai: Spellcasting [1d10 = 6]
Kazuki: Is your wife around?
Takumi's Wife: Hello sir! Thank you for your assistance saving our child!
Takumi's Wife bows very deeply to Kuutai and Kazuki.
Kazuki: How many languages can you speak?
Takumi's Wife looks perplexed by this question.
Takumi's Wife: A few, I am a bit of a scholar.
Kazuki: OK. When we were here last time, you had a daughter as well
Kuutai: Hey, I need to check this house for....things which may casue a relapse of the disease. Will you allow me such a search, Takumi?
Takumi: Certainly.
Kuutai: Notice [1d10 = 7]
Quorteth (Kuutai): Number of beds, things that would suggest a daughter actually living here, etc etc,
Kazuki: Are there any legends of spirits in this area, benevolent ones, I mean.
Takumi's Wife: I have wished for a daughter, but the Gods have not blessed us as such.
Takumi's Wife looks sad.
Takumi: Yes, this insistence on having a daughter is a bit...annoying.
Kazuki: My appologies.
Kazuki pulls out several custom tops
Kazuki: Could you check to see if you still have one of these in your house?
Sensei: Kazuki "tosses" the house and finds no signs that the number of inhabitants in the house was ever greater than 3.
Sensei: And no signs of daughter infestation.
Kazemi (Kazuki): ?!
Hida Sashimi continues talking with Atemi while Kazuki and Kuutai continue trying to get us chased out of the village
Kazemi (Kazuki): any ocean adorned top in their house?
Takumi finds no sign of a top.
Kazuki: Has anybody else passed through this village in the last couple days?
Sensei: And neither does Kazuki nor Kuutai.
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 13]
Akemi is happy speaking with Hida, and does not even correct him when he calls her "Atemi" as she is just happy to have found someone who likes her cooking so much.
Kuutai: Smarts [1d6 = 9]
Hida Sashimi: Kn (Regional Cuisine) {+1 Def. Interest} [1d6+1 = 6]
Nick (Hida Sashimi): I apologize, Akemi
Satsuki moves the Gyoshen encampment outside the village and waits until the next time Ikuko is available for gaming.
Kazemi (Kazuki): Is their house simply too small for four people?
Kazemi (Kazuki): or not properly proportioned?
Sensei: Well, in Kazuki's opinion, it is not a good size for 3 people, but somehow they make do.
Sensei: Also, Takumi's wife has a pretty big collection of books, which take up a bunch of space.
Kazuki: OK, well, thank you for your time
Quorteth (Kuutai): Has the house changed layout since last time?
Sensei: Nope.
Kazuki: Kuutai, come over here
Kuutai: Um.
Kuutai: Why.
Kuutai: I will act intelligently and not blindly obey you from now on, trickster.
Akemi: Hida, I like you too much to be involved in a TPK, would you be interested in going to Kinzoku with me so we can collect some spices and various foodstuffs? I'm getting low on a few things.
Kazuki: No, just out of the way
Kazuki: I want to have a word
Kuutai: Okay
Kazuki: OK, given the spacing in there, I don't think they had a daughter. However, something masqueraded itself as their daughter. That something is no longer there. I suspect it is in the form of...
Kazuki looks suspenseful
Kuutai: Doll-chan?
Kuutai: NOOOOO
Kazuki: Exactly
Kuutai: DONT YOU DARE HURT MY PRECIOUS!
Matsuda Kazuko leaves her horse with the Gyoshen encampment and comes back into the village.
Kuutai acts unreasonably defensive.
Kazuki: I think it is a tainted doll, one that harmed/tainted the kid (possibly unintentionally)
Kazuki: I take it you have that doll on you, right?
Kuutai: Yes
Kazuki: Pull her out
Kuutai Hugs Doll-Chan.
Kazuki makes sure that nobody else is watching
Kazuki: See if you can convince her to manifest
Kuutai: Agility (Defining Interest (Puppetry) +1) [1d4+1 = 4]
Kazuki: Agility {+2 Acrobat} [1d8+2 = 13]
Kuutai Wave to Kazuki, Doll-Chan
Colonel Sanders is not watching Kazuki play with his dolls.
Kazuki makes Doll-Chan wave to Kuutai
Kazuki: Stealth [1d8 = 15]
Sensei: Kuutai deftly controls the doll and it waves to Kazuki.
Kazuki: Kuutai cannot see how he did this
Kuutai: Its a doll, Kazuki. I think it nothing more.
Kazuki: can I see it?
Kuutai: The Transformation is known to bend....reality. I would surmise that it is playing tricks, not this pile of fluff...I mean LOVELY DOLL-CHAN!
Kuutai: No. I think you would harm it.
Kazuki: I won't harm it
Kuutai: Give me something of yours in return.
Kazuki: Not this time, at least. I just want to inspect it
Kuutai: I will return it upon safe return of doll.
Kazuki roots through his pack
Akemi: Do you suspect that Kazuki and Kuutai are doing something unhealthy? I swear they are hanging out together and I wouldn't be surprised if they were playing with dolls.
Kazuki: here
Akemi: Really, how long have you known them?
Akemi: Do you always travel with such strange people?
Akemi waits expectantly for Hida's answers.
Kazuki hands him a top. This top is designed around the sunset
Hida Sashimi: sometimes, i fear too long
Kuutai: Okay.
Kuutai: Spellcasting [1d10 = 12]
Hida Sashimi: People that are outwardly strange should not be feared. It's the ones who are strange on the inside that should be feared
Kazuki: what about hands?
Kuutai Hands Kazuki the doll and gets Top
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 7]
Matsuda Kazuko tries not to laugh at Kazuki and Kuutai playing with toys.
Kazuki: Kuutai, dispell this. It's interfering with my analysis
Kazuki: You're a two-trick pony
Kuutai: But...But.
Kazuki: Glowy red eyes are one of your tricks
Kuutai: Its SO CUTE <3
Kazuki: OK, so if it isn't the doll, then that means that my money is that one of the servants was killed and replaced
Kuutai eagerly presents Kazuki with his top
Kazuki: Heck, forget that. They probably just added a servant and modified our memories
Kiyoshi the Elder shows up with the antidote, which is given to Takumi's son.
Kazuki switches the top for the doll
Kiyoshi the Elder bows to Kazuki and Kuutai, ignoring that they are grown men playing with dolls and tops.
Kazuki: Tops are a man's toy
Kuutai: Men are doll's toys.
Kazuki: What/
Kiyoshi the Elder: You have done a good thing, I shall tell everyone that the servants of Hida Sashimi and Lady Ikuko Gyoshen are very honourable.
Kuutai: MWAHAHHAWHAHW
TADM: Reputation GAINED!
Quorteth (Kuutai): Score!
Kazemi (Kazuki): yay!
Sensei: The elder leaves.
Kazemi (Kazuki): So, is Takumi's son conscious?
Sensei: Nope, he is sleeping peacefully now that he has the antidote.
Kazuki: Hm. I wanted to ask him if he had any playmates
Akemi: Did you hear that? The people of this village think that Kazuki and Kuutai are your servants. I am not sure that is a good thing.
Kazuki heads back outside
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 6]
Kazemi (Kazuki): graveyard?
Kazemi (Kazuki): or equivalent
Hida Sashimi: No, they do serve. They provide amusement, and can dish out death when needed. Hopefully, they'll both kill each other and we'll all be better for it
Akemi nods at Hida's wisdom and offers to make him some tasty snacks.
Hida Sashimi: Let's make them together :)
Hida Sashimi: Kn (Regional Cuisine) {+1 Def. Interest} [1d6+1 = 5]
Sensei: The rich may have mausoleums, but most bodies are cremated.
Kuutai: Hrm...so its night time eh?
Sensei: Yep, it is dark out.
Kuutai: Notice [1d10 = 3]
Kuutai: Smarts [1d10 = 6]
Sensei: Kuutai notices that it is dark, and the right time of day to be dark.
Kazuki: Hm. Well, I suppose I need to find someplace to sleep
Kuutai looks at the night sky, and tries to determine if any of the stars have changed position.
Akemi works with Hida to make tasty snacks.
TADM: Nope, and the universe has not randomly "expanded" either.
Kazemi (Kazuki): lol
Matsuda Kazuko: So, what's the plan?
Kazemi (Kazuki): is it too late to politely visit the town head's hut?
Kuutai: Well, We still need to find Sanmiiru.
Kazuki: Smarts [1d6 = 3]
Matsuda Kazuko: I mean, aside from the "plan" that Hida and Akemi have?
Kazuki: What plan is that?
Sensei: It is perfectly acceptable to visit Kiyoshi's hut. The lights are on and there is sound of merrymaking going on.
Matsuda Kazuko: Some day Kazuki, you will understand, but first you will need to see a grown woman naked.
Matsuda Kazuko sighs.
Kazuki: Hey, Kazuko, the last tim we were here Takumi had a daughter. They don't now. They never have, apparently.
Kuutai: yes, but with those two, they may forgo that vice and just keep eating...
Matsuda Kazuko nods to Kuutai.
Kazemi (Kazuki): <--did not notice the " "
Matsuda Kazuko: True enough, old friend.
Matsuda Kazuko looks at Kazuki.
Matsuda Kazuko: Hmm...fascinating.
Kuutai: I'mma go party. Cya at Kiyoshi's place! Woo Woo!
Kiyoshi the Elder is telling his extended family the story of how Otsu, through kindess, defeated the Black Oni tribe of Sekisho and taught them the ways of distilling black tar.
Kazuki: Kn(Lore & Legends) {+1 Defining Interest} [1d6+1 = 6]
Kuutai listens attentively. Otsu is quite the messiah in this world...
TADM: At least in this part of the world.
Kazemi (Kazuki): have I heard the same thing?
Sensei: Yes, Otsu was a priestess of Amaterasu who did many amazing and miraculous things without ever resorting to violence.
Quorteth (Kuutai): She had a way of always looking at the sunny side of life.
Quorteth (Kuutai): So...what was Otsu's trick? How did she bamboozle the Oni?
Sensei: Typically music, song, persuasion, or through the power of her faith.
Kazemi (Kazuki): so Ikuko-level charisma?
TADM: As in - "MY RIGHTEOUSNESS SHALL TRAP YOU FOREVER IN THIS BINDING CIRCLE!"
Kazemi (Kazuki): lol
Hida Sashimi expects to suffer at least one level of fatigue tonight ;)
Matsuda Kazuko: So, anyway, I'm going to bed. Takumi mentioned something about an abandoned hut on the other side of the village. I'm going to sleep there just in case it rains.
Matsuda Kazuko heads off to empty hut to sleep.
Sensei: Hmm...Vigor check for Hida.
Hida Sashimi: Vigor {+1 Mark} [1d8+1 = 8]
Sensei: Hida goes all night like a lumberjack. Akemi collects two levels of Fatigue and believes that Hida is AMAZING in so many ways.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Hida strong like bull!
Kuutai: Kiyoshi, where is the village's shrine? Do you not have a village kami?
Kazuki: Excuse me, elder. Can I ask if a notable young girl has passed away in this village? Specifically from something suspicious
Sensei: Additionally, everyone is cooking on their own, as Akemi is passed out and sleeps back in Ikuko's camp all the next day.
Kiyoshi the Elder: Yes, we have a village kami, the shrine is next to the village well.
Kazemi (Kazuki): dammit, Hida
Kazuki: Oh. Well, that would do it
Hida Sashimi: I'll make breakfast while she sleeps
Kuutai: Why, I say, I always thought Hida would put a bun in the oven some day.
Kazuki: Which way is the well?
Kiyoshi the Elder: Hmm...there was a sullen black clad woman who carried a biwa. She came through the village about the same time as you.
Kuutai: Thank you.
Kuutai Finds his way to the well.
Kiyoshi the Elder points at the well in the middle of the village, with a small shrine right next to it.
Hida Sashimi just realized how odd it is that I don't have cooking as a skill
Kazemi (Kazuki): lol
TADM: UNTRAINED COOKING!
Hida Sashimi: Unskilled {-2 Unskilled} [1d6-2 = 2]
Kuutai: Spellcasting [1d10 = 9]
TADM: And the only fish available is FUGU!
Kazuki: The black clad woman didn't die, did she?
Kazuki looks startled
Matsuda Kazuko sleeps peacefully through the night, unless Kazuki and Kuutai manage to destroy the village.
Kazemi (Kazuki): nah, just the hut
Kiyoshi the Elder: Nope, she was headed into the forest though. Didn't talk to anyone.
Kuutai Kneels at the shrine nearby the well.
Kazuki: Do you know which way she went?
Kiyoshi the Elder: She looked angry.
Hida Sashimi checks on Akemi and keeps her company while she rests
Kazemi (Kazuki): does he know?
Kiyoshi the Elder: She was headed for the forest.
Kazuki: Thank you
Kazuki bows
Kazuki heads over to the shrine
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 7]
Kazemi (Kazuki): any sign of a top?
Sensei: Nope
Kazemi (Kazuki): of the spinning variety
Kuutai looks for the shrines donation box
Kuutai: Notice [1d10 = 8]
Hida Sashimi: Do you need anything, Akemi?
Sensei: Kuutai locates a small collection box.
Akemi: No, you are wonderful...but you should probably make sure that Kazuki and Kuutai do not further ruin your name.
Akemi: I will be fine...I have not had such a...vigorous...night in quite some time.
Kuutai Places 5 Bu in the donations box.
TADM: Was expecting Kuutai to take 5 bu from the collection box.
Hida Sashimi: :) I am happy for you. And for us.
Matsuda Kazuko shows up by the shrine.
Kuutai Claps his hands, and makes various fancy gestures in front of the shrine.
Hida Sashimi: But I should go check on them. Rest
Matsuda Kazuko: It's morning, have you guys been here all night long?
Hida Sashimi goes looking for the other PCs
Sensei: Hida finds Kuutai and Kazuki standing near a shrine doing weird things that he prefers not to think about. Kazuko looks amused.
Kazuki: Smarts [1d6 = 11]
Kazuki: Oh, well, this explains why Takumi's son lasted so long
Hida Sashimi goes back to Akemi, disappointed that both K's are still alive
Kazuki: I suspect the girl was the guardian Kami of the village. She basically slowed time for the kid until help arrived
Sensei: Well, actually, all 3 K's are still alive, although Hida might only be disappointed by the continued existence of 2 of them.
Kazuki: Given that about 5 minutes ago it was night time
Kazemi (Kazuki): I didn't get any sleep Q.Q
Hida Sashimi spends most of the day laying beside Akemi
Matsuda Kazuko really hopes that the group does not spend most of the day standing around the shrine, attracting the attention of everyone in the village, while Hida tries to "pump" Akemi for more information.
Kazemi (Kazuki): does the shrine need any repairs?
Matsuda Kazuko sighs.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Their names start with K, Matsuda starts with an M. but, we are still correct
Kuutai: Allright. In any case, lets get going, we need to find Sanmiiru.
Matsuda Kazuko heads over to Hida and Akemi.
Kazemi (Kazuki): Technically my name is Kagemori Kazuki.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Still starts with a K
Matsuda Kazuko: I think I heard something about going to Kinzoku, let's do that while Kazuki and Kuutai play with toys.
Kazuki isnt' playing with toys
Akemi: Hmm...I need to stay here and prepare food for Lady Ikuko and her servants, but I have a grocery list if you go to Kinzoku.
Akemi hands grocery list to Hida.
Kazemi (Kazuki): lol
Kuutai: Wait, you can't be serious.
Kuutai: Anoyo engulfs more of this world day by day, and you want to cook rather than to finding a key to stop the transformation?
Hida Sashimi: Okay. I'll make sure they're the best ingredients. When I get back, would you mind giving me a few cooking pointers?
[w] -> Kazuki: Okie dokie
Akemi: Absolutely.
Kazemi (Kazuki): I'd be pissed too if I broke my hip
Kuutai: Why you so mad Kazuko, theres nothing wrong with acting a little saucy from time to time. =)
Matsuda Kazuko looks at Kuutai.
Kazuki: I think he's hitting on you
Matsuda Kazuko: Indeed old friend. So are we going to Kinzoku in search of information on the sage and so Hida can go grocery shopping?
Kazuki: Sounds like a safe bet
Kuutai: ...I thought the sage was deep in the heart of the forest?
Quorteth (Kuutai): 'Suddenly the animator sufffered a fatal heart attack!'
Hida Sashimi searches the village market for a good luck charm for Akemi
Hida Sashimi: Streetwise {+2 Merchant (Buy/Sell)} [1d8+2 = 6]
Kazuki: I suggest this top
Matsuda Kazuko: Yes old friend, but the forest is at least 50 miles long and 10 miles wide in places...we need something more than "deep in the heart of the forest" to go on.
Kuutai: Ok then. Sound Advice.
Kuutai follows Kazuko obediently.
Matsuda Kazuko: Yes old friend, I am surprised you did not think of it first.
Kuutai: I figured, being a sage, Hida could find him easy enough, truth be told.
Kuutai: have you seen that guy find spices?
Sensei: You arrive back in the moderately sized port village of Kinzoku. Not much has changed since the last time you were here, although more ships are the harbor.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Oops. Okay, now I search for the charm (first roll) and for the groceries
Hida Sashimi: Streetwise {+2 Merchant (Buy/Sell)} [1d6+2 = 11]
Sensei: Hida finds a very nice and girly looking good luck charm. Kazuko shrugs when Hida asks her if Akemi would like it.
Matsuda Kazuko: Not something I would wear, but it looks nice.
Kazuki: Luck [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 2]
Kazuki: It does not seem lucky
Sensei: As Kazuki is looking at it, a shout interrupts him.
Kuutai: Notice [1d10 = 3]
Kazuki: Twice in a row
Nick (Hida Sashimi): How much do the charm and the groceries cost?
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 7]
Wandering Ronin: You there, Kagemori Kazuki! I have come for you head! Stand and face me as the Dragon's Due, or forever be called a coward!
Matsuda Kazuko looks at Akemi's grocery list.
Matsuda Kazuko: Hmm...I think those will cost you about 50 bu.
Kazuki: Can I ask why?
Wandering Ronin: Because you have insulted the honor of my master's dojo with your antics, and blood must be paid.
Kazuki: Wait, when?
Sensei: A crowd has gathered to watch, munching on various snacks and looking amused. It appears various side bets have started.
Kazuki: I don't think I've ever been to a dojo before
Hida Sashimi continues shopping without paying much notice
Wandering Ronin: So you are a liar as well!
Wandering Ronin: Prepare to die coward!
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Well, there are such thing as blood apples. Maybe he was just hungry
Wandering Ronin draws sword and prepares to strike.
Kazuki: You would throw a blow before introducing yourself?
Wandering Ronin: I am Urakami Gozen, and you will remember it as the name of the man who helped send you to your grave.
Kazuki: And your dojo name?
Kazuki: Surely you would give honor to your dojo as well
Wandering Ronin: The Urakami Kenjutsu school, where you defiled and profaned us with the presence of your pet oni!
Kazuki: Wait, what?
Kazuki: What do you mean, "Oni"?
Wandering Ronin: You consort with demons and unleash them upon the world, and now I shall save us all from your madness!
Matsuda Kazuko looks at Kuutai.
Matsuda Kazuko: Old friend, you pick strange traveling companions.
Kazuki: I was unaware that someone was using my name
Wandering Ronin: Die Liar!
Kazuki: But I had nothing to do with that incident. Could you please explain it to me?
Sensei: Agility check from Kazuki
Kazuki: Persuasion [1d4 = 6]
Kazuki: Agility {+2 Acrobat} [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6+2 = 6]
Wandering Ronin: Agility [1d10 = 9]
Wandering Ronin: Fighting [1d8 = 11]
Wandering Ronin: Katana damage [2d8+2 = 8]
Wandering Ronin slashes Kazuki across the chest and knocks him to the ground. A lot of blood starts pooling on the ground.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Do prices go down while the duel is going on?
Kazuki is using a benny
Kazuki: Vigor [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 3]
Kazuki is using a benny
Kazuki: Vigor [1d6 = 4]
Sensei: Nah, they stay pretty constant.
Kazemi (Kazuki): damn vigor rolls
Wandering Ronin: Don't move, vile consort of oni.
Kazemi (Kazuki): can I act?
Sensei: Sure thing. It would be your action in round 1 of combat
Kazuki: Spirit (-1) [1d6-1 = 8]
Kazemi (Kazuki): HA
Kazuki draws his kusari-gama so that he has a functional Parry
Kazuki: Fighting: Disarm (-1) [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6-1 = 2]
Kazemi (Kazuki): dammit
Wandering Ronin steps back.
Kazuki staggers up from the ground and misses a shot to disarm the Ronin
Kazuki: I have no clue what you are talking about
Kazuki: When did this happen?
Nick (Hida Sashimi): brb
Wandering Ronin: You have lost this day, mongrel. If you wish to continue this fight, then I will kill you.
Kazuki: I /DON'T/ wish to continue this fight
Wandering Ronin: Otherwise, the spilling of your blood is sufficient to placate my dojo and your oni's demands.
Kazuki: I want to know what's going on
Wandering Ronin sheathes sword and walks off.
Matsuda Kazuko claps.
Kazuki: Oi, Uramaki-san
Matsuda Kazuko: I rather like him.
Matsuda Kazuko: He's very old school.
Kazuki heads off after the samurai
Kazuki: Smarts [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 10]
Matsuda Kazuko heads after Kazuki, noticing that he is trailing blood everywhere he goes.
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} (+1) [1d6+3 = 6]
Kazuki: Oh, I'm bleeding
Matsuda Kazuko: Yes, yes you are.
Hida Sashimi: I don't think that's the kind of "trail of blood" that most fighters aspire for
Matsuda Kazuko hands Kazuki a cloth.
Kazuki accepts the cloth
Kazuki: I'd bow, but I think it would make it worse
Matsuda Kazuko: He's good. You will die if you pursue him.
Kazuki: Dammit, I don't even know what's going on
Matsuda Kazuko: I suspect you have offended some manner of oni. Anything you want to tell me?
Kazuki: Let me get this mess taken care of first.
Kazuki: I can only think of a few people who would be capable enough to sick Oni after me
Kazuki: er, capable and willing
Kazuki: and several more that are capable and not willing and then even more that are not capable but willing
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Have I finished the shopping?
TADM: Yes.
Matsuda Kazuko: Very well. Let's get inside that tea house over there and I will see what I can do about your sucking chest wound.
Kazuki: Thanks
Sensei: Kuutai wanders in and orders some green tea.
Hida Sashimi starts heading back to the village, if Kazemi doesn't have any more random duels to lose
Matsuda Kazuko pulls out some poultices and affixes them to Kazuki's chest.
Kazemi (Kazuki): That was not on my plan
Kazuki: Ow
Sensei: As Hida steps outside the Tea House to head back to Akemi...
Kazemi (Kazuki): A duel for you, too!
Wandering Ronin: You there, fat slob of a man! Degenerate Yakuza tub of lard! Prepare to die!
Wandering Ronin assumes a fighting position.
Kazemi (Kazuki): same ronin?
TADM: Different guy entirely.
Matsuda Kazuko: Hmm...you, as a group, have antagonized someone.
Kazemi (Kazuki): I was going to say, he sounds a lot more rude
Nick (Hida Sashimi): No kidding
Kazuki: Why do you want to attack our chef?
Hida Sashimi keeps walking, not even showing that I heard him. He said fat man, and I am fluffy, not fat
Matsuda Kazuko: Excuse me.
Matsuda Kazuko steps outside after Hida.
Matsuda Kazuko: Agility {+2 Shadow Arts, +2 Acrobat} [1d10+4 = 9]
Matsuda Kazuko trips the duelist as he runs by to attack Hida.
Wandering Ronin: What? Dumb bitch!
Kazuki: Why do you want to attack the guy who is making our Chef a GOD LEVEL CHEF
Matsuda Kazuko: Did you just address me in that derogatory and insulting manner?
Wandering Ronin: Yes, you tea house whore!
Kazuki: Uh oh
Quorteth (Kuutai): Wheeeeee!
Wandering Ronin stands up and readies sword.
Kazuki: Hold on, I want to see his face when he recognizes you
Matsuda Kazuko: Hmm...you are not worth my time.
Wandering Ronin: What?
Kazuki moves into a better position to not be stabbed, but have a good view
Matsuda Kazuko: Karasun honor dictates that I should not fight someone so far beneath me.
Kazuki: Smarts [1d6 = 2]
Wandering Ronin: Karasun? Hah! What do Karasun's know of honor.
Matsuda Kazuko: Very well, I will make this fair.
Matsuda Kazuko steps out on the street, pulls out a cloth and ties it over her eyes.
Wandering Ronin: WHAT?
Matsuda Kazuko: Now, when you are ready.
Wandering Ronin: Errr...
Matsuda Kazuko puts her hand on her sword.
Matsuda Kazuko: Intimidation {+2 Strong-Willed, +11 Illustrious Worth} [1d6+13 = 20]
Wandering Ronin: Uhh...
Wandering Ronin points at Hida.
Wandering Ronin: I'll get you later!
Wandering Ronin runs off.
Kuutai sips tea.
Matsuda Kazuko sighs.
Kuutai: Interesting.
Kuutai prepares for the ronin that will leap out at him, and takes a cautionary stance.
Kazuki: Oh, come on
Hida Sashimi: So, are we good to go now?
Kazuki: Actually, I'm not sure you can avoid killing someone who goes after you, Kuutai
Kuutai: thats the idea. =)
Kuutai: MWHAHAHAHAHHA
Kazemi (Kazuki): nah, I was just joking around
Kazemi (Kazuki): You should practice on a bystander first, that way you don't hurt the ronin
Kuutai: Notice [1d10 = 5]
Kazemi (Kazuki): you can intimidate him out of it
Kuutai stays on the lookout.
Matsuda Kazuko: Well, I think we should see if anyone knows where this Sanmiiru is.
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6+2 = 13]
Kazuki: I have no streetwise..
Kazuki: 404 {-2 Untrained} [1d6-2 = 3]
Kazuki helps out Hida, staying close so he can hear when Hida succeeds at getting the information
Hida Sashimi: Streetwise {+2 Merchant (Buy/Sell)} [1d8+2 = 7]
Kuutai: Either that or.....find a really good map of Sekisho and deduce where he would be in that mess.
Kuutai: Come to think of it, a map would be great, even if we knew his exact wherabouts
Kuutai: Notice [1d10 = 8]
Kuutai: Notice [1d6 = 9]
Sensei: Hida finds a nice rice merchant who is happy to sell various items on Akemi's grocery list. When Hida mentions Sanmiiru, the man nods and says, "The Sage of Sekisho? It is almost impossible to find him in the forest, but my sister's cousin's best friend told him that Sanmiiru visits the village of Chiisai, which is about a days ride north of Issho, once a month. There is a sake peddler who lives there named Akamaru who knows Sanmiiru."
Quorteth (Kuutai): Cartographer's Emporium.
Sensei: Kuutai finds no good maps of Sekisho. It is mostly marked with black and "do not go here"
Hida Sashimi gives him a 2 bu tip for the info
Kuutai: Chiisai? Sounds like a really small place.
Matsuda Kazuko: That it does.
Kuutai: Well then shall we be off?
Wandering Ronin: Honorable Void Onmyoji, I regret to inform you that I must take your head now.
Wandering Ronin bows.
Wandering Ronin: Nothing personal, it is just business.
Kuutai: FEED THE VOID, SIMPLETON!
Kazuki: Kuutai, dont' kill him
Quorteth (Kuutai): 6 Pts. Bolt. Let 'im have it.
Kuutai: Spellcasting [1d10 = 8]
Sensei: Fire at will!
Kuutai: Bolt(Enhanced) damage [3d6 = 6]
Kuutai: Bolt(Enhanced) damage [3d6 = 20]
Kuutai: Bolt(Enhanced) damage [3d6 = 14]
Kazuki facepalms
Hida Sashimi: well that duel was...electrifying
Wandering Ronin explodes into a giant pile of goo, with bits of coruscating black energy rippling across his twitching and severed limbs as they sail through the air.
Matsuda Kazuko: Hmm...
Kazuki: You're an idiot
Kuutai: I was waiting for that.
Matsuda Kazuko: I see you still have your way with people.
Kuutai: What? Why?
Kazemi (Kazuki): how is the crowd reacting?
Sensei: The crowd flees in panic, screaming that an Ikusan Void Walker and his entourage are attacking random citizens.
Matsuda Kazuko: Ah yes. Situation normal, old friend.
Kuutai: But...But...he threatned me with great personal harm!
Kazuki: Has he always been like this?
Matsuda Kazuko: I am not blaming you at all for defending yourself. I am a bit used to having to flee for my life when around you.
Matsuda Kazuko shrugs at Kazuki.
Matsuda Kazuko: Sometimes he has more hair.
Kazuki: Well, at least my Defining Interest Escaping synergizes well with him
Kuutai: Notice [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 2]
Quorteth (Kuutai): escape route
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 6]
Kazemi (Kazuki): +1 for escaping
Sensei: Kazuki finds the shortest route out of town. No one stops the dread Ikusan Void Walker and his cronies from leaving town.
Kazuki appologizes as he goes along
Kazuki starts bleeding again from the bowing
Kuutai: Are you wounded?
Kuutai: Oh...I see.
Kuutai Offers Kazuki a Red Potion.
Kazuki: Smarts [1d6 = 17]
Matsuda Kazuko waits patiently for Kazuki's Doctoral Dissertation on quantum physics.
Kazuki stares at it skeptically. He distinctly remembers the last Ronin who interacted with Kuutai...
Kazuki: What's it do?
Kuutai: Heals you
Kuutai: It was made by the Brewmaster at the Loon Academy.
Kuutai: They work.
Kazuki: Thanks
Kazuki takes the potion and pockets it
Kuutai: Wait....you aren't using it?
Kazuki: I think I can heal from this one myself, but I'll drink it if we get into a pinch
Kazuki: I don't want to waste it
Kuutai: Your blood will make us SO easy to find.
Kazuki bows to Kuutai
Kazuki some more blood gets on his rags
Kuutai seems indifferent.
Sensei: The group gets back to the Gyoshen encampment without further incident.
Matsuda Kazuko: Well, that was a mostly successful trip. Hida went grocery shopping and found out a lead on Sanmiiru. Kuutai and Kazuki did not die and only killed one person.
Kazuki: What do you think would've happened if Hida had to fight that Ronin?
Kuutai: Ever tasted human?
Matsuda Kazuko: I am sure that Hida would have acquitted himself honorably.
Kuutai: They say it has lots of personality.
Kazuki: What do you think would've happened if Ikuko was with us>?
Kazuki: That would've been amusing
Kazuki: Maybe they've been waiting for us to get separated from her so they don't have to risk Dominate Person
Kuutai: Smarts (Defining Intersest(Acting) +1) [1d10+1 = 8]
Matsuda Kazuko: I suspect we have not heard the last of these people, so we will find out soon enough.
Kuutai immitates a ronin, challenging Ikuko to tedious debate on proper manners at dinner.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): L: "They already have a drink made from humans" F: "How does it taste?" L: "It varies from person to person"
Matsuda Kazuko: Well, I guess we head south in the morning and look for this village of Chiisai.
Kazuki: Sounds like a plan
Sensei: The next morning again dawns bright and clear. The entourage heads south.
Kuutai: Notice [1d10 = 9]
Hida Sashimi: Notice [1d6 = 3]
Sensei: D20 [1d20 = 20]
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 7]
Hida Sashimi gives Akemi her present
Akemi is excited about Hida's gift and makes him an extra helping of food.
The group has been traveling for about 3 days, when late in the afternoon they come across a solitary man with a walking stick and a wide straw hat. He wanders up to the horde of Ikuko's servants and strikes up a conversation with the guard, Hiroki.
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 7]
Hida Sashimi: Notice [1d6 = 4]
Peasant: Stealth [1d6 = 8]
Kuutai: Notice [1d10 = 9]
Peasant is a perfectly normal looking guy, in his mid-30's with a smile and evidently a lot of opinions on the proper way to cultivate barley.
Hida Sashimi: Kn (Regional Cuisine) {+1 Def. Interest} [1d6+1 = 12]
Kazemi (Kazuki): lol
Nick (Hida Sashimi): barley recipes and dishes
Sensei: Hida comes up with a bunch of those.
Peasant: So, what brings all'ya'all folks out here?
Peasant: Headin' to Issho?
Nick (Hida Sashimi): brb again
Kazuki: Stealth {+2 Thief} [1d6+2 = 7]
Kuutai: Maybe....or maybe not.
Peasant: Well, I'm headin' to Issho. Nice place. Some fine martial arts schools there
Peasant: Big autumn competition coming up in a few days.
Peasant: All'ya'all would like the events I think.
Peasant looks at Daichi.
Peasant: And I bet that big feller could win a few.
Peasant looks at Hida.
Peasant: and I bet that bigger feller could win the "all you can eat food tournament"
Kuutai: A few days you say? How long do we have?
Peasant: I think it starts in three days. Be there tomorrow, so plenty of time to find out more.
Kuutai: I see
Peasant looks at Kuutai.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): look! it's the "fighting tournament" plotline from deadlands!
Peasant: What sort of man-bird you'all supposed to be?
Kazemi (Kazuki): lol
Kazemi (Kazuki): I like this guy
Kuutai is puzzled.
Peasant: You'all smell a bit dead to. You'all seem a bit unhealthy.
Peasant pokes Kuutai with his staff to make sure the man is solid.
Kuutai: Soon enough, you will fear the raven, and the void he brings.
Kuutai cackles
Peasant: Raven? Like them Karasun Ravens? Hell, I's already fear them somethin' fierce.
Peasant: And the Karasun's be masters of the Void...hey, you'all be a Karasun Void Mage?
Peasant: That'd be cool, I's not seen one'o'them ever.
Kuutai: Hrm. Something like that.
Peasant: Say, if all'youl'all is heading for Issho, maybe we can travel together?
Peasant: Safety in numbers and all...all'you'all know what I mean?
Peasant: Lots o'folks be scared, what with that massive black oni tearin' apart the Urakami Kenjutsu dojo outside Issho a couple weeks ago.
Kuutai giggles
Kazuki: Black Oni? A bit far from the forest, isn't it?
Peasant: I's thinkin' that Kagemori Kazuki feller not be too popular, givin all the trouble he be causin' - not sure what us nice folks done to deserve being attacked by oni lords.
Kazuki: Wait, an Oni Lord as well?
Peasant: This ain't no normal Black Oni, thing is massive, a big ol'oni that can smash houses in a single blow. From what I's hears from the folks who saw it, the thing lumbered out of the forest one night, said it was an Oni Lord serving Kagemori Kazuki, tore up and killed a whole lot of folks. The entire Urakami clan demanded blood vengeance against this Kazuki feller. All'ya'll want to be careful, all'ya'all see this Kazuki feller, he be one bad mo'fo'
Peasant: Probably best to kill him quick. 'Afore he can summon up more oni to eat all'ya'all
Kuutai: Well I can guarantee that the Urakami would not only seek but exact vengeance on him. I would assume Kazuki to already be dead.
Kazuki: Is it possible for Oni Lords to lie?
Peasant looks at Kazuki.
Peasant: I's dinna know what makes Oni Lord do what's they does.
Kuutai: I'd also presume that they, being paragons of martial skills, would have their city totally safe in time for the games, lest they lose face.
Peasant: Nah, the Michi Academy runs the games. They's have everything safe there.
Kuutai: Therefore, I do not see any harm in you getting a head start to Issho.
Kuutai: Persuasion [1d4 = 2]
Kazuki: Persuasion [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 4]
Hida Sashimi: Persuasion {+1 Etiquette} [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6+1 = 5]
Kuutai: Persuasion [1d4 = 3]
Hida Sashimi is using a benny
Peasant: But I's know that the Urakami want this Kazuki to dies by a hundred cuts, one from each of them.
Hida Sashimi: Persuasion {+1 Etiquette} [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6+1 = 6]
Kuutai is using a benny
Kuutai: Persuasion [1d6 = 5]
Kazuki: Ouch
Peasant: Well, you'all Karasun Void Mage seem the least unruly of them guys, I's guess you ain't all bad, what with you'all's earlier statements about Ravens. But I's'll be on my way now, I's thinkin' all'you'all is walkin' a bit slow for me.
Peasant speeds up and walks off.
Matsuda Kazuko: What amusing local color and accent.
Matsuda Kazuko looks at Kazuki.
Matsuda Kazuko: And I guess you have 99 other duelists coming to kill you. Slowly, one slice at a time.
Matsuda Kazuko smiles.
Matsuda Kazuko: How interesting.
Kuutai: Hrm
Matsuda Kazuko looks highly amused by this.
Kuutai: You dont' seem terrified?
Matsuda Kazuko: Old friend, you do pick very amusing companions.
Kuutai: Wheres your delicious fear?
Matsuda Kazuko looks at Kuutai.
Matsuda Kazuko: My fear?
Matsuda Kazuko: Fear of what?
Kuutai: Nah, mr. popular over here
Kazuki: Hm
Kuutai: whut wif da ninety 'ine slas'ez to 'is teef
Kazuki: This is annoying
Kuutai: As that kind peasant would say it.
Hida Sashimi: Shall we continue on?
Kuutai: Yes. To Chiisai!
Kazuki: It was a black Oni
Kazuki: Could it have come from collecting the sap?
Kuutai: but it was a BIG black oni
Sensei: The group does not locate Chiisai, but you do reach Issho along the coast.
Kuutai: Not little winged mage-masher types
Matsuda Kazuko: Hmm...not sure how we missed it.
Kazuki explains to Kazuko, in hushed tones, about the summoning of the Oni Lord near Nihana
Matsuda Kazuko nods.
Kuutai: Man, that village must be really Chiisai, to have missed it!
Matsuda Kazuko: You definitely have a way of attracting lots of anger.
Matsuda Kazuko: I will head back inland to take a look, you scout Issho and see if they have any specific directions.
Matsuda Kazuko heads to the northeast.
Kuutai: Um...We are separated. Uh oh.
Kuutai: So...
Kuutai: We need a disguise for you
Kazuki dons his mask
Sensei: So this strikes me as a great place to stop for the night.
Kuutai: Ah, how convenient.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Sounds good

Kazuki: So, Hida, how do you feel knowing that the village we just saved is going to spread word about how I, the infamous Kazuki, is actually your servant?
Hida Sashimi: I see nothing wrong with that statement
Hida Sashimi: I'm worried of how Kuutai being my servant will affect me
Kazuki: Oh. You don't seem as worried about my ill-gotten reputation
Kazuki: Personally, I'd like to clear that up rather quickly, but without turning into ramen
Hida Sashimi: I guess that may be a good idea
Kazuki: That being said, I think I need a change of outfit. That guy recognized me on sight
Sensei: Maybe it was smell?
Kazuki: Pardon me, those guys. There have been two of them
Kazemi (Kazuki): I hate you, Kuutai
Sensei: All righty then...as the wise sage, P!nk, would say, "Let's get this party started."
Sensei: First question: Go to Issho or look for Chiisai?
Quorteth (Kuutai): Chiisai. We will get murdered in Issho/
Kazemi (Kazuki): I at least need a change of outfit before going to Issho
Sensei: Nonsense, Issho is a quaint little community of 2500 and home to several major martial arts academies, kenjutsu dojos, and the Michi Academy, where most of the current rulers of the Iron Dynasty were trained. There is no chance of danger for a group like this in that town.
Quorteth (Kuutai): We'd really have to keep things together in Issho. =)
Feneril (Ikuko): Actually, I'm pretty sure Ikuko would love that town
Sensei: Plus it is their annual skills competition, featuring kyujutsu, kenjutsu, martial arts, non-martial arts, eating contests, and various other festivities.
Feneril (Ikuko): If there are eating contests then Hida would like it as well
Kazemi (Kazuki): I think we should enter Ikuko into each contest and see how far she gets
Sensei: And as the nice segue-themed NPC peasant mentioned last week, there is a terrible oni out wandering around killing people in the name of Kagemori Kazuki.
Quorteth (Kuutai): Hrm....So what's the plan bros? I'm fine with either.
Sensei: So traveling the countryside is DANGEROUS because of the vile oni-loving sorcerer and evil bastage known as Kazuki.
Feneril (Ikuko): well, I've been out of the loop a little bit from power-outages and other missed days, but I think Issho sounds safer
Sensei: (Lots of edits later...) It was. Evidently I can't type "Kagemori Kazuki" in less than 3 tries at the start of a session.
Kuutai: Kazuki...shall we tempt the fates in Issho? What do you think?
Kazuki: Hold on, I'm preparing my disguise. I'm assuming it's my mask that's the main giveaway
TADM: Now that my inability to type completely derailed things for about 15 minutes, can we get back to the Issho/Chiisai question?
Kazemi (Kazuki): let's have one of those anonymous votes
TADM: (POLL) Kill Kazuki
Sensei: Oops...
TADM: (POLL) Go to Issho
Sensei: All right, Issho it is.
Kuutai: Yay! Issho!
Issho is a city of about 2500, as you reach the outskirts you see a number of kenjutsu and martial arts dojos in the area. The Michi Academy, the largest Martial Arts training center in Konoyo, sprawls over a series of hills to the west of the city, looking like some giant fortified castle.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Mmmm I could go for some Issho soup
Kuutai: Notice [1d6 = 4]
Daichi: Notice [1d6 = 5]
One of the first "buildings" you come to is the burned out remains of a building. There is a tattered signpost proclaiming it is the "Urakami Kenjutsu Dojo" with hastily scrawled piece of paper attached with the words, "Damn you to Hell Kagemori Kazuki" scrawled on it.
Hida Sashimi: Notice [1d6 = 4]
Daichi: I see you are as popular here as I would expect.
Feneril (Ikuko): LOL
Kuutai appraises the destruction carefully.
Feneril (Ikuko): I love the hat
TADM: That is cool Mike.
Kuutai: I'm jealous. What discord and horror this man can sow.
Kazemi (Kazuki): Thanks. I also have a stylish bandana as well
Kazuki: Persuasion (Acting) {+1 Defining Interest} [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6+1 = 5]
Kazuki is using a benny
Kazuki: Persuasion (Acting) {+1 Defining Interest} [1d6+1 = 6]
Kazemi (Kazuki): significantly better
Ikuko: Don't fret Kuutai, I'm sure if you just stick with it you'll be able to inflict just as much suffering.
Ikuko: Persuasion (as disguise) {+10 Charisma, -6 Blindness} [1d12+4 = 11]
Kazemi (Kazuki): wtf when did you get +10 CHA?
Ikuko: Charismatic
Kazemi (Kazuki): I'll take the roll that looks like a sideways 8
TADM: The entire +10 Charisma does not apply, since at least 2 of that comes from clothing.
Hida Sashimi: Persuasion {+1 Etiquette} [1d6+1 = 6]
TADM: Unless Kazuki is going to be a cross-dresser...
Kazemi (Kazuki): I am not wearing your clothing
Kazemi (Kazuki): not unless that Persuasion forces me to
TADM: Nope.
Kazemi (Kazuki): or unless I get hit with another body swap
Ingen: Greetings to Issho, travelers.
Ingen bows to Ikuko.
Kuutai bows
Kazuki bows
Hida Sashimi bows
Ikuko: Thank you for the kind welcome.
Kazemi (Kazuki): agility check for Sashimi: does he fall over?
Ingen: I am Ingen, student of the Michi Academy. Are you and your entourage here for the games?
Ikuko bows very slightly.
Ingen: D8 [1d8 = 5]
Ingen looks over the group.
Ikuko: I did so hope to attend some of the more exciting ones.
Ikuko: I am afraid one of my men would have to describe them to me though.
Ingen: Hopefully your ladyship will enjoy them. Might I have your name?
Kuutai: Yes...you look like someone who can show me which path leads to these challenges.
Ikuko: Gyoshen Ikuko, come from Tetsu Sangaku in search of a husband.
Kuutai bows deeper
Ingen gives Ikuko an appraising look.
Ikuko: Perhaps one of the noble competitors might impress me?
Ingen: Gyoshen Ikuko?
Ikuko: Aye.
Ingen: I am honored to meet you. If you would come with me there have been lodgings prepared for you and your group.
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 6]
Ikuko: Of course, lead the way.
TADM: (POLL) It's a TARP?
Daichi: Notice [1d6 = 4]
Hida Sashimi: Notice [1d6 = 13]
Kazemi (Kazuki): Sashimi can smell it
Nick (Hida Sashimi): XTREME TARP DETECTION!
TADM: None of you detect immediate TARP of DEATH.
TADM: Not even Hida.
Ingen bows and gestures for everyone to follow him.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): We only missed the immediate tarp. which means there are many to follow
