Savage Worlds Ruleset for Fantasy Grounds II
(c) 2009 Pinnacle Entertainment Group.
GM: DRUM ROLL PLEASE!
Dmitri: Nice pic
It is September 23, 1942. You stand on the eastern bank of the Volga, looking West into what must surely be Hell. Massive columns of smoke rise above its shattered skyline. Few buildings are intact. Most are exposed shells filled with jumbled furniture and crumbling walls.
MacGyverovich: It's the generic symbol for wild cards
Kazemi (Dmitri): I know
Far in the distance you see planes and hear the whine and thump of their bombs. You have no idea if they are yours or the fascists’. Most of you couldn’t tell the difference even if you had a telescope. Around you are hundreds of thousands of your countrymen. Some look tired, some look drunk, and some of the youngest even look eager. Fools.
Ferries have been taking men across the Volga all morning while you waited. Now it is your turn. Perhaps fifty of you are crowded on board a small boat by screaming sergeants and stern commissars. The overloaded ferry was designed for half as many and rocks violently in the cold river.
You push into the crowd, breathe deep, and hold on tight as the vessel pushes off into the muddy water. For you, the war has begun.
You’re halfway across the Volga when you hear a strange whining sound growing louder. You look up and see a trio of strange silhouettes diving down from the sky toward you. The boat driver yells “Stukas!” and cowers down behind his steering column.
Kazemi (Dmitri): Stukas?
TADM: German Dive Bombers.
MacGyverovich (MacGyverovich): Total All-powerful Dungeon Master?
TADM: The Almighty Dungeon Master
The ferry in front of you suddenly explodes in a massive upheaval of water, wood, and flesh. Bits of wet, crimson gore splatter over your clothes and face. Other bombs land all around you and throw huge columns of water into the sky. The staccato sound of the next Stuka’s machine guns rattles your ears and the rounds rip through the front of the boat. A dozen of your comrades are shredded in an instant. Some literally explode from the violence of the attack while others fall spastically and writhe in pain.
Some of the other passengers dive into the water. A few swim west toward Stalingrad; two swim back to the east. You look back and forth for what seems like an eternity trying to decide what to do. A wounded commissar staggers to his feet and fires at the “traitors” swimming toward the east bank.
TADM: Yes, you are being railroaded.
Kazemi (Dmitri): I feel like I've seen this before...
MacGyverovich: Guess I should have taken swimming
One of the swimmers, a Ukrainian, screams as bullets splash around him. He curses at the commissar with his fist in the air—then is silent when a pistol round smashes through his left eye. The other man, an old hunter from Minsk, thinks better of his decision and turns back toward the boat.
Ivan: Chortles at the weaklings
What do you do?
Kazemi (Dmitri): is the boat sinking?
TADM: Okay, railroading has ended.
GM: No, the boat is not sinking, it is still heading towards Stalingrad. It is now about 66% of the way across the river.
Kazemi (Dmitri): I put no points into swim, so...
Ivan: Extends a hand to the Hunter from Minsk
MacGyverovich: Goes to check if the engine has been hit
Hunter: Thank you comrade.
Kazemi (Dmitri): LOL
GM: The engine has not been hit, it is still puttering along at a very slow pace.
Dmitri: Awaits arrival at the shore
Kazemi (Dmitri): on the shore?
Ivan: Appears gruff and does not return the courtesy to the hunter yet
Tack (Ivan): weaksauce? in MY Soviet Russia? No way!
As you approach the shore, you see a small marshalling area behind some steel sheets and mostly destroyed walls. There is a group of Russians there handing out supplies to incoming soldiers. Scattered around the "protected" area are several hundred corpses.
You see a Commissar handing out guns to soldiers as they arrive. It does not look like everyone is getting a rifle!
Dmitri: I time it so that I get a gun and MacGyverovich gets the ammo
Kazemi (Dmitri): I figure it's a pretty safe course of action
The boat docks. The ten men closest to the front immediately die as they are sprayed with machine gun fire from a nearby building.
Soviet Infantry: MG34! Get down! Get behind cover!
MacGyverovich: Crouches behind the wall of the boat, waiting for a moment to sprint to cover
The young man waves everyone forward as soon as the machine gun stops firing.
The remaining people in the boat rush out to the "protected" area.
GM: Actions?
Kazemi (Dmitri): do we have guns yet?
Ivan: Notice to see where the fire was comming from?
GM: No, you do not have guns yet.
Ivan: Notice [1d6 = 5]
Dmitri: Notice [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 5]
Kazemi (Dmitri): WONDERFUL
MacGyverovich: Sprints to the "protected" area, trying to keep at least one person between me and the machine gun
MacGyverovich: Notice [1d6 = 11]
It appears that the machine gun fire was coming from a large warehouse just ahead of you.
As you enter the "protected" area, a Commissir orders everyone to get in line, then starts handing out equipment.
Soviet Commissar: One man gets a gun, the next man gets the bullets. If a man dies, take his equipment.
GM: So is everyone leaving the boat and running up to the "protected" area?
Tack (Ivan): Yes
Kazemi (Dmitri): Yup
MacGyverovich (MacGyverovich): Since we don't have any way to fight back atm, yes
Ivan: Tells the Minsk Hunter to run ahead to the camp before the rest, he is soaked and about to freeze
Tack (Ivan): Need body shield
GM: Okay, then equipment is passed out as noted on your character sheets.
Hunter: Good thinking comrade
Hunter: (runs forward to the marshalling area)
Soviet Commissar: You have your equipment! Comrade Stalin has provided for you!
Ivan: Creeps behind him but in keeping pace with the will of the Commissir
Kazemi (Dmitri): is the warehouse still in view?
Soviet Commissar: Remember, do not take any prisoners! Do not use fascist equipment! Fight to the last man!
Ivan: Grunts in approval!
GM: No, the warehouse is obscured from view by the walls in front of you.
MacGyverovich (MacGyverovich): We can't use the enemy's guns, even if we're unarmed?
Kazemi (Dmitri): According to their orders, yes
Soviet Officer: (points at the men in the area, including the PCs)
Soviet Officer: You men, stop loitering! Go take that warehouse so others can cross the Volga to reinforce us!
Dmitri: YES SIR
Ivan: Roger that
Kazemi (Dmitri): After the officer is out of earshot
Dmitri: Let's see if we can snipe them or get around the building
Several men rush forward. Unfortunately for them, it seems that the MG34 had time to reload, as they are all mowed down as soon as they move from behind the walls.
GM: For the record, 78 people have already died in this campaign.
MacGyverovich (MacGyverovich): How far is the next building/cover?
Dmitri: Shooting: Mosin-Nagant [1d12 = 10]
Kazemi (Dmitri): pardon me
GM: The nearest cover is about 8 away from you. You will need to roll a 2 or better on 1d6 to make it in one round.
Kazemi (Dmitri): how far is the Warehouse?
Ivan: Notice [1d4 = 6]
Ivan: To see what gear they have left for us to carry on the fight
GM: The warehouse is about 30 away from you, uphill.
GM: The gear you have is the bullets and rifles issued to you, whatever clothes you are wearing, and your shoes.
Dmitri: OK, let's go
GM: You have nothing else, and aside from the gear the Officer and Commissar have, do not see anything else.
Kazemi (Dmitri): send Hunterovich
Tack (Ivan): I mean how much stuff did the las wave of redshirts leave
Hunter: (alas, I am slain, I ran out with several other people)
Kazemi (Dmitri): SOB
Tack (Ivan): I.E. Is it ok to use any gear so long as Stalin has provided it to us?
GM: The last wave of redshirts left several clips and rifles strewn about in open view of the warehouse in front of you.
GM: Yes, any equipment you can scrounge from the dead is perfectly acceptable to use.
Kazemi (Dmitri): helpful would have been dying in cover
GM: As long as it is not fascist.
Kazemi (Dmitri): what time is it in the story?
Kazemi (Dmitri): I'm assuming day
GM: It is about 1000.
Kazemi (Dmitri): that's a lot of hours
Kazemi (Dmitri): how long has it been since the Redshirts died?
GM: About 24 seconds now.
Kazemi (Dmitri): how long does it take to reload a machine gun?
GM: Assume 12 seconds
Ivan: Grabs one of his fallen Comrades hats and runs forth
GM: Is Ivan running to cover?
Tack (Ivan): Yes
Kazemi (Dmitri): you took their hat?
Tack (Ivan): Yeah what else am i going to use to draw their fire
Kazemi (Dmitri): well, moving should be enough
Kazemi (Dmitri): do you have a gun?
GM: Dave, roll a D6.
Ivan: [1d6 = 6]
Kazemi (Dmitri): ROFL
Kazemi (Dmitri): does he make it to the warehouse?
Kazemi (Dmitri): you get a D4 too, don't you?
Ivan sprints like a madman and makes it to the low wall that forms some cover. Machine gun fire plasters the area around him, but he seems safe for the moment.
At another piece of cover, about 12 away, a Russian soldier waves at you.
Dmitri: while they're shooting at him, I sneak a peak at the warehouse
Dmitri: Notice [1d4 = 2]
Kazemi (Dmitri): how many guns are up?
GM: Dmitri sees a lot of bright muzzle flashes from the warehouse. It looks like one MG34 and several other soldiers are in the warehouse.
Dmitri: kk
Andrej Movenchkin: Well done comrade. Run this way! I will pick off the machine gunner when he pokes his head out to target you.
Dmitri: Gets ready to shoot at the machine gunner as well
GM: What bullet is Dmitri planning on using?
Andrej Movenchkin: (leans to one side of the wall and points his rifle at the window where the MG34 is at)
Ivan: Grabs a rock and puts it in the hat (as to make it fly better), then tosses it out to create a diversion
Dmitri: smacks MacGyverovich
Kazemi (Dmitri): It's a head!
Ivan: CARRY THE LEADERS WILL AS YOUR TORCH! FOR YOU BROTHERS COMRADES!
GM: The hat is mercilessly gunned down by an SMG burst from one of the ground floor windows.
Dmitri: Comrade, give me some ammo
MacGyverovich: No
Ivan: Runs to the next piece of cover closer to the warehouse
Ivan: Notice [Critical failure!] [1d4 = 1]
Kazemi (Dmitri): CRITICAL FAILURE
Tack (Ivan): SHIT!
Kazemi (Dmitri): BENNIE
Ivan is using a benny
Ivan: Notice [Critical failure!] [1d4 = 1]
Kazemi (Dmitri): AGAIN!
GM: LOL
Kazemi (Dmitri): yes you can
Ivan is using a benny
Ivan: Notice [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 2]
GM: Well, for a second there, time seems to slow down as dozens of bullets spray around Ivan. Everyone is relatively certain that he is going to die while he stands there with his mouth open.
GM: But somehow, all the bullets miss him and he makes it to the next piece of rubble.
Dmitri: Notice check to find more ammo
Dmitri: Notice [1d6 = 8]
MacGyverovich: Attempts to grab a rifle while the gun is pointed away
Tack (Ivan): You guys had better nail that thing lol
MacGyverovich: A fallen soldier's rifle, specifically
Dmitri: uses fighting to beat his hand away effortlessly
Kazemi (Dmitri): oh
Kazemi (Dmitri): nevermind
GM: He does hear the sound of a rifle as he runs forward and sees that the other Russian, Andrej, has indeed shot the soldier manning the machine gun.
Dmitri: charges out to the next set of cover and grabbing a thing of ammo on the way
MacGyverovich: Same action, but rifle instead of ammo
Dmitri: Agility [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 5]
Dmitri is using a benny
MacGyverovich: Agility [1d4 = 3]
Dmitri: Agility [1d12 = 8]
Dmitri: [1d6 = 2]
GM: Dmitri manages to grab 3 clips as he runs to cover.
Dmitri: I bet you can't do better, MacGyverovich!
Kazemi (Dmitri): I hope you have Hindrances that force you to take up that bet
Dmitri: loads gun
Ivan: Looking for any exit from the warehouse. Those cowards will need to flee somewhow.
GM: MacGyverovich finds a gun as he is running over to where Dmitri is.
GM: There are lots of holes in the warehouse, it will be relatively easy for the fascists to run out in many directions.
MacGyverovich: Notice to see how many guys are by the machine gun, and who is closest/easiest target
MacGyverovich: Notice [1d8 = 7]
Andrej Movenchkin: (waves to Ivan) Good job comrade. Run to the next spot and I will get another! There are only 10 more in the warehouse!
GM: There seems to be one German on the bottom floor, at a range of 26, who is not in very good cover.
Dmitri: I'll assist you, Comrade
GM: The range is a -2 penalty, and his cover is a -2 penalty, so it is -4 to hit the guy on the bottom floor from where Mac and Dmitri are.
GM: Which means you will need an 8 on the shooting die to hit him.
Kazemi (Dmitri): what do we roll against?
Kazemi (Dmitri): kk
Tack (Ivan): How close am I now to the warehouse?
MacGyverovich (MacGyverovich): plus the fact that while staying in character, Mac has no shooting
GM: Ivan is within 14 of the warehouse now.
Dmitri: I take a shot at the lowest guy
Dmitri: Shooting [1d12 = 10]
GM: You hit. Roll for damage.
Dmitri: Damage [2d12 = 9]
Dmitri: Shooting: Mosin-Nagant [1d12 = 10]
Dmitri: Mosin-Nagant damage [2d8 = 5]
Ivan: Like a switch, the sound of the soviet guns opening on the germans means its MELEE time! Climb into the building!
Ivan: Climbing [1d6 = 4]
GM: Ivan runs forward and climbs through a window and into the building.
GM: A Nazi Sergeant shoots at him.
GM: Nazi Infantry: Shooting [1] [1d6 = 1]
GM: Nazi Infantry: Shooting [2] [1d6 = 3]
GM: Nazi Infantry: Shooting [3] [1d6 = 5]
GM: And he somehow manages to miss, all 3 times.
Kazemi (Dmitri): aww
Kazemi (Dmitri): should we have rolled initiative?

Dmitri: I'll run to the next section!
Kazemi (Dmitri): can I shoot after that?
Kazemi (Dmitri): that's fine, I have -2 for range anyway
Kazemi (Dmitri): that I'm about to lose
GM: The germans, not being stupid, are also behind cover.
Kazemi (Dmitri): kk, I'm just going to replace that -2 for range with Snapshot

Dmitri is using a benny
Dmitri: [1d6 = 5]
Dmitri: Shooting: Mosin-Nagant [1d12 = 4]

GM: Just as the Nazi in front of Ivan was bringing his MP40 up to shoot the charging Russian, a bullet smashes into his helmet and he topples over.

Andrej Movenchkin: Excellent work comrades! You have secured the building!
Andrej Movenchkin: (waves and heads farther into Stalingrad)
Ivan: Salutes
Dmitri: I need a med kit
Soviet Officer: Excellent work comrades. You are to stay in this warehouse and make sure that it remains free of fascist taint.
MacGyverovich: Healing [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 10]

[w] Ivan: eat the rations quickly and leave no evidence
[w] -> Ivan: Okay, I left a note, but remind me next session, just in case I forget, that you are immune to the first "Hunger" check.
The three of you settle in to wait.
MacGyverovich (MacGyverovich): are we allowed to man/use the mp40?
Kazemi (Dmitri): German weapon
TADM: Only if you want to be shot by a Commissar.
Tack (Ivan): Do it. You need a re-roll with German.
Another group of Russians show up and join you. This brings you up to a full squad of soldiers manning the warehouse.
MacGyverovich: Since none of the russians would be dumb enough to use it or pick it up, can i booby-trap it?
Soviet Officer: You there. (points at Mac) You seem to be educated. You are in charge of this squad. Your captain is Boris Petrovich. Welcome to the 13th Infantry Division.
MacGyverovich: Salutes
Soviet Officer: (walks off)
MacGyverovich: Thank you, sir!
Ivan: Hail new squad leader!
MacGyverovich: Looks for grenades and stuff to boobytrap the two MP40s
Ivan: Seeing as the new Squad Leader is up to no good techinical tomfoolery, I will talk around with the comrades about
MacGyverovich: Begins wiring the machine guns
Ivan: Praises the rest of the soldiers for their bravery and loalty to stalin, then panders for Vodka
Ivan: Can a comrade get a little water?
Soviet Infantry: Hail Comrade Ivan. Here, I have a canteen.
Ivan: Let us drink to the fallen comrades!
Soviet Infantry: Aye!
[w] MacGyverovich: Do i need to make any rolls?
Ivan: Seems overly social while the curtains close on this episode
Soviet Infantry: It seems that Dmitri has passed out.
[w] -> MacGyverovich: Sure
[w] -> MacGyverovich: Knowledge Machine or a generic smarts roll at -2.
GM: [1d20 = 14]
[w] MacGyverovich: Generic smarts, as i have jack of all trades. but machine works too
MacGyverovich: K (Machines) [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 2]
MacGyverovich is using a benny
MacGyverovich: K (Machines) [1d6 = 10]
Tack (Ivan): Seriously? Chooses to machines over Vodka? Ya can at least stay warm while you do that comrade!
MacGyverovich (MacGyverovich): i should do that everytime i boobytrap something :)
MacGyverovich: Now, I'll go check on the rest of the wounded
MacGyverovich (MacGyverovich): is that vigor rolls (fast ally healing) or healing rolls?
Campaign saved.

Ivan: Hey comrade
Tack (Ivan): XD
Dmitri: Yo
Tack (Ivan): So you made a sneeky bastart
Dmitri: nope
Kazemi (Dmitri): nope
Tack (Ivan): You did
Kazemi (Dmitri): I just put one point into sneak, cuz I figured it would be useful
Tack (Ivan): Awwww
Kazemi (Dmitri): all my other points I put into shooting, melee, and throwing
Tack (Ivan): World doesn't make sense anymore then. =\
Kazemi (Dmitri): and Agility
Kazemi (Dmitri): I figured sneaking wouldn't be as necesary
Kazemi (Dmitri): and if it is
Kazemi (Dmitri): I can just reroll
Kazemi (Dmitri): I'm counting on my Luck to provide me with some quality life insurance
The large "A" means, "You are here"
Tack (Ivan): That is very cool
TADM: Yeah, this program kicks ass.
Kazemi (Dmitri): so where did we come in at?
TADM: They have an Ultimate edition out now that a DM can buy and then everyone else can connect to it using the Demo license but still play the full game.
Kazemi (Dmitri): THAT is a good idea
The large "D" is the spot where the boats landed.
Kazemi (Dmitri): OK, how large are the boxes?
Each square = 20 yards (60 feet) in real life.
Tack (Ivan): So that would be 1 square a round for a character with pace 6?
TADM: No, more like 1 square everyone 10 rounds for a character with a pace of 6.
About an hour passes, and a group of five Russian soldiers appears from the south. They look miserable, starving, and have a dead stare like they have been fighting in this war for years.
Corporal Golushko: Greetings Comrades, it is good to see you have survived your first few hours here.
Corporal Golushko: I am Corporal Golushko, these other men are the rest of my squad.
Dmitri: Greetings
Dmitri: How are things looking, Comrade?
Nick (MacGyverovich): Being cheerful is anti-Communist. You must share your misery with all.
Kazemi (Dmitri): I am newb
Corporal Golushko: Things are difficult comrade. The Germans in this sector are very hardended in battle.
Dmitri: It sounds like we ought to retire them. It's hardly fair that their rookies aren't getting action
Kazemi (Dmitri): I'm offering Optimism
Nick (MacGyverovich): is that a new brand of vodka? otherwise, no one will want it.
Kazemi (Dmitri): hell yes it is
Just so you guys know, you are not alone here. The rest of your squad consists of Private Pavel, Oleg, Boris, Nikolai, and Vladimir.
They arrived on the boat just after you finished securing the warehouse and took out the German squad defending it.
Kazemi (Dmitri): so it's them and the Corporal?
GM: No, the Corporal showed up with three men of his own.
Kazemi (Dmitri): OK
GM: Pavel, Oleg, Boris, Nikolai, and Vladimir are with you guys. Technically they report to Nick's character.
Private Betin: I agree with you comrade. The only good Fascist is a dead Fascist.
Nick (MacGyverovich): Nice. I get sacrificial lambs for the slaughter
TADM: Yes, but in combat everyone gets to control someone else also.
Ivan: EFF DA GERMANS! Lousy fuckers!!!
Ivan: Appears tipsy
Kazemi (Dmitri): have you been drinking?
Private Bakhorov: Well said Comrade! Let us drink Vodka in agreement!
Tack (Ivan): What Real Russian hasn't?
Private Bakhorov: (offers bottle of Vodka which magically appears from under his coat)
Nikolai: That man is my new bestest friend ever!
Kazemi (Dmitri): Vodka does that in Russia, I hear
Ivan: My countryman! My comrade! I am honore'd!
Nick (MacGyverovich): Coat of Vodka Holding? I want one!
Kazemi (Dmitri): wtf was there a ' there?
Tack (Ivan): Slurr
Private Bakhorov: Thank you, I received this from our new polticial officer. He is great friend of the common soldier!
Tack (Ivan): It's terribly cold, and people are exhausted and fighting a war, on empty stomachs. =)
Private Betin: Yes, much nicer than that cold-hearted bastard, Captain Petrovich. As far he is concerned, we could all be dead.
Ivan: Many thanks!
Nick (MacGyverovich): New PO = Risako
Private Bakhorov: Here friends, have you eaten? (Reaches into coat and produces a small package of biscuits. They look very stale, but still edible.)
Dmitri: Many thanks Comrade
MacGyverovich: Soak them in the vodka. Old family recipe
Dmitri: That actually doesn't sound half bad
Dmitri: Vodka goes well with everything out here
Ivan: Brothers! A feast! Look what our contry has given us!
Kazemi (Dmitri): I hope they kill you first
MacGyverovich: Do you doubt my grandma Xenia's cooking?
Boris: If it is food, I do not care where it comes from.
Dmitri: That's getting to be my opinion as well
Ivan: Appears a little unervingly casual and carefree given what has just happened nay 20 mins ago
Kazemi (Dmitri): it's called shock
Vladimir: So how long have you guys been here? You look like you have gone through Hell. (looking at Golushko's squad)
Corporal Golushko: I have been here two weeks. The rest of them have been here one.
Nick (MacGyverovich): Is there a rank below private? I think I might need to demote Vladimir later
Oleg: wow..wtf? I guess war really screws you up. These guys look like they have been here for years.
Nick (MacGyverovich): and oleg
TADM: No, but he can be on point.
Nick (MacGyverovich): Operation "Get behind the darkies", right?
Dmitri: We'll just have to end this sooner rather than later, then
Ivan: Soon'er, Later! Mother Russia will freeze these scmbags all the way back to there shitty home
Kazemi (Dmitri): their
Corporal Golushko: So, you have been promoted (looks at Nick's character)
[w] MacGyverovich: Have all the wounded been checked on, and the Facist gun emplacements been booby-tarped?
[w] -> MacGyverovich: Yes.
Ivan: Let em freeze 'an stave!
Kazemi (Dmitri): starve?
Tack (Ivan): Spelling? I'm drunk and need errors!
MacGyverovich: Yes
Corporal Golushko: Make sure you file your reports with Petrovich. Failure to do so is treason.
Dmitri: [1d20 = 6]
[w] MacGyverovich -> Dmitri: wtf? why kill me?
[w] Dmitri -> Ivan: test
MacGyverovich: w/ Ivan wtf? why kill me?
Tack (Ivan): But I seriously just rolled a normal person. :|
Kazemi (Dmitri): I SAW THAT
[w] Ivan -> Dmitri: yep
[w] Dmitri -> Ivan: WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU
A whistle sounds in the distance.
[w] Ivan -> Dmitri: Nothing. Its a war game. Enjoy the flavor.
[w] Dmitri: Corporal Golushko
[w] Dmitri: That answers that
Ivan: 's eyes roll towards the noise
Dmitri: What's that whistle mean?
Tack (Ivan): Spelling Nazi. Grammar Nazi. YOUR ONE OF THEM
Corporal Golushko: That is the sound of a Fascist advance. My men and I will return to our position. Watch for Nazis. Maybe you will even be alive next time we come over to visit.
Dmitri: We look forward to it Comrade
Dmitri: salutes
The Corporal and the three soldiers with him head out through a bombed out part of the building toward the building to the south of you.
Ivan: Salutes
MacGyverovich: Enough loafing about! Get into your positions!!
Vladimir: (bends over and grabs ankles)
Dmitri: readies gun
Oleg: He does not strike me as that kind of leader comade.
Vladimir: Ohhh...
Ivan: Positions? You' have't said nothin 'bout positions yet. You haven't even shared a drink with me yet
Nick (MacGyverovich): Is vladimir from oklahoma?
Tack (Ivan): He is but a simple farmer. Vernacular transition.
MacGyverovich: I'll share one with all of you if you live to see the next dawn. Now...do I need to repeat myself? Move your ass, and get ready for those Nazis!!
Dmitri: Takes up position on the west wall
Dmitri: peeking out a window, of course
[w] MacGyverovich: Since last time i was in command w/ smashi and all i did was try to save my minions from destruction when they screwed up, can i just punish them myself this time?
Pavel, Oleg, Boris, Nikolai, and Vladimir take up position on the top floor of the building, looking out west toward where the Germans are likely to attack.
MacGyverovich: And no one touch or use the Facist weapons, either!
Dmitri: How many staircases are there to this floor?
[w] -> MacGyverovich: Sure, if you can come up with a creative way to do it. Or just report them to the Commissar for not being brave enough to defend Mother Russia.
There is one serviceable staircase.
GM: Everyone make Notice checks.
Dmitri: Notice [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 5]
Ivan: Notice [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 3]
MacGyverovich: Notice [1d8 = 5]
Pavel: Soviet Infantry: Notice [1d4 = 10]
Tack (Ivan): Lol
GM: Holy Crap, the generic scrubs got a 10. (Rolled a 4, 4, and a 2.)
Kazemi (Dmitri): lol
Tack (Ivan): It is pretty rich to see the shadow die being rolled a bunch
You scan the approach for several minutes, but do not hear or see anything.
Kazemi (Dmitri): I was wondering why there were so many D4
The sounds of gunfire and a few artillery shells land on the buildings to the north of you, but nothing is close enough for you to see what is happening.
Dmitri: we should have someone watch the staircase
Ivan: Staircase? Sure!
Dmitri: Make sure you kill the fascists if they try to come up
[w] Dmitri -> MacGyverovich: or at least make a lot of noise
Nick (MacGyverovich): we're not all upstairs, are we?
Ivan: Wait what? I have to wait here to kill them!? Aw nuts....
Kazemi (Dmitri): I am
Dmitri: I'm sure they'll be here soon enough
Ivan: is humming an old folk tune.
Kazemi (Dmitri): are you downstairs?
Tack (Ivan): I'm where some other person told me to guard.
Kazemi (Dmitri): the staircase
Kazemi (Dmitri): are you on the first floor, the second floor, or on the stairs?
[w] MacGyverovich: are our current orders to defend the building/river, or are we going to need to advance at some point?
[w] -> MacGyverovich: Your orders are to defend the building to the last man.
Ivan: Takes an instinctive rather than calculating survey of the stairs, and attempts to find out where they will be comming from
Nick (MacGyverovich): brb afk
Dmitri: creeps over to check the northern windows
Dmitri: Stealth [1d4 = 6]
Dmitri: Notice [1d6 = 5]
Battle map is up.
If you mouse over the people, you will notice little names on them.
GM: Nick controls Pavel and Oleg.
Kazemi (Dmitri): stairs?
GM: Mike controls Boris and Nikolai
GM: Dave controls Vladimir.
Kazemi (Dmitri): T_T
[w] MacGyverovich: is it hitler or stalin/lenin (forgot which rules mother russia right now) the one who said that soldiers could never retreat?
[w] -> MacGyverovich: Stalin
[w] MacGyverovich: so the enemy would just surround them and pwn
[w] -> MacGyverovich: Retreat was punishable by immediate execution. True right now, in this campaign.
[w] MacGyverovich: That's what i was afraid of.
Artillery shells land just to the north of the building, creating new exciting craters in the ground and piling up more debris and rubble.
Vladimir: Comrades, I have just wet myself!
Dmitri: Be glad you could
Pavel: TMI!
Ivan: Notice [1d6 = 17]
Ivan: Did he reallly?
GM: lol
Kazemi (Dmitri): please whisper the all-too-in-depth descrition
With a Notice of 17, you are entirely certain that not only did he wet himself, but that he has a potassium deficiency in his diet and he wears size 8 shoes.
But you do not see any Germans with your notice of 17.
Tack (Ivan): Ooh ooh! Can I roll fear and try to turn the tide on them?
Dmitri: on who?
GM: Unless there are invisible stealth Nazis! :)
Kazemi (Dmitri): pardon that
Kazemi (Dmitri): so yes
MacGyverovich: Stay sharp, men! And Pavel, don't ever do that again!!
Pavel: Do what?
Dmitri: glances at Pavel
Ivan: No Russian could do that out of fear! he did that 'casue he drank like a real patriot!
Dmitri: Hands to yourself, Pavel
MacGyverovich: Vladimir...whatever! If you live through this, I'll try to learn your names and know who's who, okay?
Nikolai: I'm only afraid that I do not have enough Vodka for the battle!
Vladimir: Yes sir of indeterminate rank!
Dmitri: HAHA!
Dmitri: Notice [1d6 = 9]
Kazemi (Dmitri): for Nazis
Boris: (looks at Ivan) I don't know about you, but I have no intention of facing this sober.
You still see no Nazis.
[w] Ivan: GM did I learn anything special from the large notice check?
Kazemi (Dmitri): can I take an aim action while I'm waiting?
Kazemi (Dmitri): or do I have to have a target first?
TADM: Yes
Dmitri: Aiming
Ivan: Wait, You have experienced this thing they call sober? What was it like? It scares me so!
Mortar shells land just to the north of you. One lands in the debris in front of you.
[w] -> Ivan: Sadly no, you saw nothing really exciting with your monster Notice check. Mostly because there is nothing to see.
One mortar shell flies in near where the squad is, everyone make Agility checks to dive for cover.
Pavel: [1d6 = 6]
Ivan: Agility [1d6 = 5]
MacGyverovich: Agility [1d4 = 2]
Oleg: [1d6 = 5]
Dmitri: Agility [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 2]
Dmitri is using a benny
Boris: [1d6 = 4]
Dmitri: Agility [1d12 = 6]
Nikolai: [1d6 = 3]
Vladimir: [1d6 = 2]
MacGyverovich is using a benny
MacGyverovich: Agility [1d4 = 5]
Kazemi (Dmitri): I am using my dodecahedron, thank you very much
GM: Everyone manages to dodge the incoming blast, except for Nikolai and Vladimir.
GM: [3d6 = 9]
GM: They are knocked flat and appear dazed.
Dmitri: Notice [1d4 = 6]
Tack (Ivan): (lol)
Kazemi (Dmitri): Nazis?
MacGyverovich: Notice
MacGyverovich: Notice [1d8 = 3]
GM: No one still sees any approaching Nazis.
GM: It takes them both about 2 minutes to recover, but they seem unharmed.
Ivan: This farking bombin is ruining my buzz! Im outta this building for now, give a holler when they decide to fight like men
[w] MacGyverovich: Does anyone have binoculars or a radio, so we could possibly check on other positions?
[w] -> MacGyverovich: What? Binoculars or radio? Do you think you are in the American army?
[w] -> MacGyverovich: Comrade Stalin has provided you everything you need. Don't you forget it.
Dmitri: Running away, Ivan?
Ivan: Never! Im running TO THEM. little shitlets will storm the piss out of this shit hole in about 2 mins
Ivan: Imma get to some place where they wont see me
GM: Make a stealth check Ivan to see how well you hide.
Ivan: Would like to start moving to the small dot now on the map
Ivan: Agility [1d4 = 3]
Dmitri: Stealth to conceal myself in the debris, also aiming
Dmitri: Stealth [1d4 = 18]
Kazemi (Dmitri): AHAHAHAHAHA
Well, Ivan does a pretty crappy job of hiding. Someone should tell him standing out in the open is not a good plan.
Dmitri on the other hand...well...the necessary infrared scanning equipment to find him will not be developed for another 100 years. The Predator would not even be able to locate him.
Kazemi (Dmitri): This'll be fun, now
Nick (MacGyverovich): where are they now, exactly? since i imagine they moved during their rolls
Dmitri: Notice [1d6 = 3]
After that last salvo of mortar shells, the sounds of combat grow quiet and the artillery ceases to land anywhere along the battle line.
GM: No one still sees any Germans.
Nick (MacGyverovich): That just means that they should be here shortly.
A few minutes after that, another whistle sounds, which you assume means that the attack has ended.
Oleg: I do not think they are coming comrades. All that excitement for nothing.
Dmitri: Curses, I had a spot, too
Ivan: is frustrated.
A couple hours pass, it is very quiet. Eerily quiet.
GM: Everyone make Notice checks.
MacGyverovich: Notice [1d8 = 5]
Ivan: Notice [1d4 = 5]
Dmitri: Notice [1d6 = 14]
Kazemi (Dmitri): yes sir
Okay, everyone sees a Russian squad coming into the building from the Russian side. Dmitri sees that the squad consists of a Captain, a Commissar, and eight guys with submachineguns.
It’s just after what should be dinner time. You can tell because your stomach is growling even more than it has all day. You’re starving. Is there nothing to eat in this damned city?
Kazemi (Dmitri): do I recognize any of them?
GM: Nope.
Captain Boris Petrovich: Third Squad. I am Captain Boris Petrovich. I do not care to know your names. Most of you won’t be alive the next time I visit anyway. The fascists are pushing hard against this sector.
Tack (Ivan): Its the asshat boss!
Captain Boris Petrovich: I’m working on getting you additional arms and ammunition, but in the meantime, I expect you to hold. I don’t care if you have to throw rocks at them. I don’t care if they come with tanks. There is nothing behind you but the river and I can assure you the Volga is very cold this time of year.
With that the officer turns and stalks away. The men with the submachine guns follow him, but a younger political officer stays behind. He carries a box with a few tins of food and a bottle of vodka and sets it down before your squad leader.
Commissar Vasily Ivanovich: Good evening, comrades. I have heard of your glorious victory against the fascists today. Such bravery, and with only minutes to get accommodated to our...difficult... surroundings. Surely that deserves a few rations? This is all I have, but it is from my personal stores so I hope it serves you well. I am Commissar Vasily Ivanovich. I am here to see to your morale and help in my own small way in the fight against the invaders. You there, where are you from? (points at Ivan)
Dmitri: Thanks, Comrade
Ivan: Looks like a kid in a candy store. One that just got off his last sugar high.
MacGyverovich: Thank you for the rations, sir. The men will appreciate it.
Commissar Vasily Ivanovich: Yes, and congratulations on your promotion. Mother Russia needs men of intelligence and loyalty to lead her armies.
Ivan: I am from Siberia, you Ivanovich?
MacGyverovich: smacks Ivan
MacGyverovich: If someone outranks you, you must address him by such!
Commissar Vasily Ivanovich: I am from Moscovy comrade. I was a student at University before the Germans attacked.
Tack (Ivan): I was just being friendly. I can't help it!
Tack (Ivan): Aren't we all one big russian family here =0?
Commissar Vasily Ivanovich: (looks at Mac) I appreciate your zeal comrade, but save it for the Fascists and the Captain.
Ivan: Ah, I see. Thank you so much, you have saved us brother!
Tack (Ivan): I will make stupid comments out of being naive this time, rather than intentionally this time. =)
Commissar Vasily Ivanovich: (points at Dmitri) You, you are good with a gun I hear. Where are you from? What did you do before coming to defend Mother Russia in her hour of need?
Dmitri: I was a hunter, sir
MacGyverovich: Goes to keep watch while the men eat
Commissar Vasily Ivanovich: That explains much.
Dmitri: It was mostly recreational until recently
Dmitri: I lived in a small town near Tomsk
MacGyverovich: Notice [1d8 = 7]
Commissar Vasily Ivanovich: Well, if you keep up the good marksmanship, I will see if perhaps I can get you to receive from teaching from Vasily Zeitsev.
GM: Vasily Zeitsev is a famous Russian sniper. The movie Enemy at the Gates is about him, although I think they changed his name in the movie.
Dmitri: That would be too great an honor, sir
[w] -> MacGyverovich: You see nothing out of the ordinary. It is getting dark though.
Ivan: Seems wide eyed and enthralled that one of his squad mates is so good a shot.
Commissar Vasily Ivanovich: (makes small talk with rest of squad)
Pavel: I was a farmer sir.
Oleg: I was also.
Boris: I worked in a factory on the other side of the Volga.
MacGyverovich: Goes to search the rest of the building, check my tarps, and obtain as much of the remaining guns and ammo from fallen comrades.
Nikolai: I was in school, studying political science.
Vladimir: I worked in a factory across the Volga also, until I was forced to come here by some commissars. I am a machinist and needed to make tanks.
Commissar Vasily Ivanovich: Ah, I see Comrade. Well, perhaps will you get a chance again soon. Until then, Mother Russia needs you here.
Ivan: Overhears some talk of political science. Is a little disheartened that someone like that is in his squad.
Nick (MacGyverovich): Vlad realizes he's talking to a commissar, right?
[w] MacGyverovich -> Ivan: maybe i'll let you kill him later
GM: I assume so.
[w] Ivan -> MacGyverovich: Meh, Ivan very simple man. No want to kill
Commissar Vasily Ivanovich: Now I must take my leave of you, before my absence is noticed. [1d20 = 18]
Kazemi (Dmitri): He doesn't seem like the 40K type of Commisar
[w] MacGyverovich -> Ivan: you're in the wrong place, then
Kazemi (Dmitri): he seems more like the huggable type
GM: Somehow I accidentally managed to get a D20 stuck to the Commissar's statement.
Ivan: I propose a toast to the Commissar and to Mother Russia!
Commissar Vasily Ivanovich: Thank you comrade. (shares a drink, then leaves quickly)
Nick (MacGyverovich): hears the word "toast" and am glad i'm out checking for stuff
The night passes uneventfully.
So does the next day.
Ivan: Survival [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 5]
MacGyverovich: Investigation [1d6 = 9]
Except that no one shows up that has any food.
Dmitri: Throwing [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 2]
Nick (MacGyverovich): That was for ammo, guns, etc. earlier
Kazemi (Dmitri): I can't even throw rocks now...
[w] -> Ivan: You manage to scrounge up enough that you automatically pass the Vigor check I am about to ask for.
Kazemi (Dmitri): so we're going without food, then?
Nick (MacGyverovich): Oh you threw...up on yourself, though.
GM: Everyone needs to make a Vigor check for hunger.
MacGyverovich: Vigor [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 5]
GM: Soviet Infantry: Vigor [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 3]
Ivan: Vigor [1d6 = 7]
Dmitri: Vigor [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 2]
[w] Ivan: Oleg just rolling to blend in
Kazemi (Dmitri): Actually, do my Bennies respawn?
Kazemi (Dmitri): because I'd love to spend that one again
Everyone who failed (which includes Dmitri, Pavel, Oleg, Boris, Nikolai, and Vladimir) gets a -1 penalty until they get food.
MacGyverovich: Survival [1d6 = 11]
TADM: No, bennies are only good for once per session.
Kazemi (Dmitri): w/e, I don't roll anything between a 3 and a 13 anyways
TADM: They do not come back every morning.
Kazemi (Dmitri): brb
[w] -> MacGyverovich: Okay, with that l33t roll, you find enough food to feed yourself and five other people.
Tack (Ivan): Note that I took a very balanced distribution of stats and skills. Verily the world may be at an end
Ivan: Not wanting to look particularly well fed or well to do than my other comrades, Ivan will taunt....the darkness
Ivan: Taunt [1d6 = 9]
Kazemi (Dmitri): note that I stacked everything in the hopes that nothing would last longer than it takes for me to identify them
Ivan: is seen yelling at the wall
Dmitri: joins in
Dmitri: Smarts [1d4 = 6]
[w] MacGyverovich: even if the other die is a 1? okay
Ivan: Aye you tell 'em Dmitri! That's way too much for a load of bread n some mutton!
Ivan: Wailing, gnashing of teeth, etc
Tack (Ivan): Gee, it would be nice if the squad leader checked in on one of his loyal goons to make sure he is ok
Tack (Ivan): He seems to be behaving erratically
Nick (MacGyverovich): why, are you injured?
[w] -> MacGyverovich: There are only a few things where if the test passes but the skill roll itself is a 1 does that make a difference.
[w] MacGyverovich: That makes sense.
Ivan: To see the reaction of everyone in the area
Ivan: Notice [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 4]
[w] -> MacGyverovich: Most magical abilities are the only think I can think right now where it matters. I know there are a few more.
GM: Somehow Mac comes up with a bunch of scavenged food and everyone gets something to eat.
Pavel: Yay to our great leader!
Dmitri: Thanks, Comrade
Ivan: has more faith in God.....er COMMUNISM to provide for him. All hail the great leaders!
MacGyverovich: Healing [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 3]
Ivan: Comrade! Food! I did't know you had it in you
Ivan: When do we get to kill the Germans?
MacGyverovich: As soon as some show up
Private Betin: (climbs up through the rubble)
Private Betin: Comrades, Corporal Golushko sent me over to check on you? Did you survive the battle okay?
Dmitri: Indeed we did
MacGyverovich: What battle, soldier?
Ivan: Battle? Where?
Dmitri: Hunger has been a worse problem for us than the Fascists so far
Private Betin: Ah yes! Well, let me share something with you.
Nick (MacGyverovich): waits for him to either explode or draw a pistol, given that statement
Private Betin: Nearby (he gives you some directions) is a remarkable little building called "The Cellar" it is run by a wonderful kindly old woman named Irina who somehow has a larder stocked with food, drink, and supples.
Private Betin: On your first visit, the meal and drink is free, after that you must pay with salvage or cash.
Dmitri: Thank you for the information, Comrade
Private Betin: It is a nice place that reminds you of home, in this hellish place.
Private Betin: Well, until next time then. (waves and crawls back down the rubble)
Ivan: Wait! Wait!
GM: The "Cellar" is location "B" on the map.
MacGyverovich: Orders Ivan, Pavel, and Vladimir to go check it out
Ivan: Does she make Okroshka? I must have some!
Tack (Ivan): GO SNEAK THAT SHIT
Pavel: Thank you sir!
Vladimir: Indeed, thank you!
Dmitri: If we decide to take advantage of this, we should take turns and go in pairs
GM: Pavel and Vladimir leave immediately.
Ivan: Hrm. They gonna be ok there Macgyverovitch?
Dmitri: Glances at MacGyverovich
MacGyverovich: Are you leaving or what?
MacGyverovich: I said those two AND you
Ivan: !
Ivan: I guess you did, but then Mr. Crackshot said pairwise.....and and...
Nick (MacGyverovich): "Orders Ivan, Pavel, and Vladimir to go check it out"
Ivan: Decides to take orders from his stomach and says fuck it all this back and forth
Ivan: Notice [1d4 = 3]
Ivan: While on the way with Pavel and Vladimir
[w] -> Ivan: You see nothing unusual.
Kazemi (Dmitri): oh
Dmitri: Follows them
Kazemi (Dmitri): ignore that last part
The building itself seems completely demolished, except for the light coming from a bomb shelter door and the sounds of raucous laughter.
Upon entering, you see what looks like a run-down and dilapidated, but lively and friendly restaurant.
Against the back wall are also piles of gear and salvage from all over the city. It looks like you could find almost anything in this place, if you know what to ask for, and had the money to afford it.
Nick (MacGyverovich): It's a TARP!! I've seen Inglorious basterds! (spelled wrong, i think)
Irina Petrova: New people! First time I have seen your faces! Welcome, welcome to my home!
Tack (Ivan): Aw not a german hornet's nest?
Kazemi (Dmitri): she's a spy, she'll poison you and take your gear
Kazemi (Dmitri): or tell them when we'll be coming
Ivan: Looks as if Irina is his mother and the war has ended. He could not be happier than being here right now
Irina Petrova: Please, sit yourselves down by the fire. I will get you some food and a shot of Vodka.
Ivan: Vodka? Oh nevermind Happier.
Ivan: Why thank you so much comrade Irina!
Irina Petrova: I try my best to serve our wonderful fighting soldiers. Unfortunately, only my first meal and shot of vodka are free. Keeping this place running is very costly.
Irina Petrova: (heads back into the kitchen)
Mikhail: (a small boy comes up to the table) Hello soldiers. I am Mikhail. Happy to meet you. If you need anything or any information, I will do what I can to help you kill the Germans who murdered my family.
[w] MacGyverovich -> Ivan: You better be getting intel during your "mission"
Ivan: THOSE BASTARDS! (Liquid stream of profanity)
There are probably a dozen soldiers in the "restaurant" all of them drinking some vodka and trying to stay warm.
There are four people who catch your eye among the crowd.
Ivan: Greetings comrad Mikhail. I too share your pain. Lousy fucktards burnt my entire farm and everyone on it. Animals!
One is a spectacled man sitting in a well-lit corner, pounding away at a typewriter. Theere is something about him that makes you immediately suspect he is not Russian.
[w] Ivan -> MacGyverovich: Sure. Im getting "intel" which in my case is being one of the comrades
Ivan: Kn English [1d6 = 5]
Daniel Stern: You speak English? Incredible.
Ivan: Me Mother wanted me to go someplace better some day. There was no place better, and there will never be soon as we clear these rats out!
Daniel Stern: My name is Daniel Stern, I'm the financial events reporter for the New York Times. I...uh...landed in Stalingrad just before the Germans invaded and have not been able to get to Moscow yet.
Tack (Ivan): USEFUL SKILL? OH NO!
MacGyverovich: checks with the remaining soldiers here for other "useful skills"
Ivan: Hello Daniel. I am Ivan
Daniel Stern: Hmm...I probably could have guessed that.
Ivan: My condolences on the state of things now. I wish you could be shown true Russian hospitality
Daniel Stern: (warning, Ivan's low English skill means that, just because Daniel speaks good English doesn't mean Ivan will always translate it correctly)
Daniel Stern: (for the record, I'm being generous right now by having him speak complete sentences)
[w] MacGyverovich -> Ivan: try to keep the other two from getting plastered or in trouble, also
Tack (Ivan): Go for it. I rather like the mystery and realism
Kazemi (Dmitri): AWESOME
Another interesting looking character is a Commissar sitting in the corner, he looks about four shots of Vodka over his limit. He stares at you with bleary eyes that seem to linger for a while on Vladimir, then he calls for another drink.
Next is a phenomenally attractive woman who seems to be drawing the attention of most of the men in the room. She is sitting at the bar having a drink and regaling several drooling men with the story of how she shot down a couple German planes yesterday.
[w] Ivan -> MacGyverovich: I would, but that would be out of character.
Somehow being covered in dirt and grime and talking about blowing planes up and shooting people makes her even more attractive.
The last one is a surly old man sitting in the corner, coughing. He seems to be drinking water instead of Vodka. There is a layer of blankets covering him, and his skin looks a bluish color. Something about him seems unhealthy and everyone else seems to be avoiding him.
Tack (Ivan): Naturally, most heterosexual men would have seen the chick as the last important person in the room.
GM: Yeah, but I screwed up on my notes and didn't realize I missed him.
GM: Because once your characters see the chick, you would have missed everyone else anyway.
Nick (MacGyverovich): That's why i sent Pavel w/ you
Pavel: Wow, she is hot! (drool)
Ivan: So Daniel. What did you want to do in Moscow?
Vladimir: Did you see the way that Commissar was looking at me? What did I do?
Nick (MacGyverovich): Okay, Vlad as who I meant
Daniel Stern: (he gives a long and detailed explanation, which Ivan translates to:) Me go to see big factory. It shiny. Me write reports on it. People read them. They like.
Ivan: Fascinating.
Pavel: Vladimir, you know how earlier in the day, you made a mess in your pants when we were being shelled?
Vladimir: Yes.
Pavel: When she put her arms up in the air a couple seconds ago, I think I saw nipples. And now I think I need new pants.
Pavel: Her clothes are kind of ragged.
Vladimir: What are you talking about??? That commissar was giving me the evil eye!
Irina Petrova: Hello gentlemen, have some stew and vodka. Enjoy! Oh..and here is a few biscuits and some cheese even.
Ivan: Comrades! What are we so angsty about! We should make our thanks here, find out what they need here to keep Russia on its toes, and go back such that our comrades can come as well!
Irina Petrova: (gives Ivan, Pavel, and Vladimir decent helpings of food, which is probably the best meal any of them have had in a few weeks)
Ivan: Is pretty stunned and doesn't know how to quite thanks properly
Pavel: (doesn't eat, is too busy staring at attractive woman)
Vladimir: (doesn't eat, is too busy being convinced the commissar is about to shoot him)
Kazemi (Dmitri): I think you picked three poor people to send in there
Nick (MacGyverovich): No shit
Vladimir: (whispers) He seems cruel and heartless (points at Commissar) I bet he is nothing like Commissar Ivanovich)
Ivan: Would there be ANY person that couldnt find a pidgeon hole in ONE of those vices?
Tack (Ivan): OOPS OOC that was supposed to be
Ivan: Vlad! Have some of this Cheese! It is delicious beyond measure!
Pavel: I'm going back to the squad...I just can't take staring at her any longer.
Vladimir: I'm going back to the squad also. I just can't handle that Commissar staring at me.
Ivan: You two go ahead then, I will stay here for a moment to...check on things
GM: (for the record, the Commissar does not even appear to be looking in your direction)
Pavel: (leaves, returns to squad)
Kazemi (Dmitri): is he looking at Vlad?
Vladimir: (leaves, returns to squad)
GM: No, he is looking at no one, sort of just staring at the wall.
MacGyverovich: (addresses vlad and pavel) Where's Ivan?
Pavel: OMG! There is an Angel there. When you see here, you lose your appetite from her beauty. It is like heaven.
Vladimir: OMG! There is this psychotic commissar, he stares at you and watches you liking he is judging you and going to kill you immediately. It is like Hell.
MacGyverovich: Where
MacGyverovich: Is
MacGyverovich: Ivan?!?
Pavel: Oh, he is drinking Vodka and talking to some American.
Vladimir: Yep.
Oleg: ooh ooh! Can I go next?
MacGyverovich: Sends Oleg and Boris to go get him
Boris: Me too!
Oleg: Yay!
Boris: Yay!
GM: They arrive at the Cellar.
MacGyverovich: Healing [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 3]
They get served food. They eat it and have a great time. Then they bring Ivan back with them.
Oleg: That place is awesome.
Nick (MacGyverovich): damn. dice don't want me to even to attempt to heal dmitri
Boris: I can die happy now.
Nikolai: Can I go now sir?
Tack (Ivan): Can I check with Mikhail reall quick what they are looking for salvage wise?
Tack (Ivan): Before I am taken back to my squad?
GM: Yes, they are pretty much looking for anything. But you cannot trade any guns or ammo of any type in the cellar.
MacGyverovich: Fine. Nikolai, Dmitri. Let's go. Ivan...
MacGyverovich: (reconsiders) All of you, just stay put and defend the building til we return
GM: Electrical things, home supplies, clothes, canteens, food, pretty much anything someone in a war-torn city would need, except for guns and ammo.
Kazemi (Dmitri): that's good to hear
Ivan: Ok, I'll peace out with Oleg and Boris after at least sending a glance to the hot chick
GM: They also accept currency if you cannot bring salvage with you.
Tack (Ivan): The old dude is all you Kaze....I mean Dmitri
Dmitri: sighs
Dmitri: OK, let's get a move on
Irina Petrova: Ahh! New faces, welcome! Welcome! Take the table by the fire.
Kazemi (Dmitri): brings stuff to wrap food in
Dmitri: Thank you for your hospitality
GM: The "restaurant" is pretty much as described earlier. Except that it is a little later, and there are now about 20 soldiers in it.
Kazemi (Dmitri): who's still noticible?
MacGyverovich: Surveys the supplies, seeing what they have that would be useful
[w] MacGyverovich: Do we have anything useful to trade, if we need to later?
They have a wife assortment of things. You could probably wire up an RV with the stuff in here.
Kazemi (Dmitri): lol
[w] -> MacGyverovich: No, that would be what some good scavenging, survival, and smarts rolls would be for. :)
GM: Of the people described, are there any you want to specifically talk to?
Dmitri: glances at MacGyverovich
MacGyverovich: I want to talk to the "owner" to see how this little haven got set up
[w] MacGyverovich -> Dmitri: Go. Play. Have fun
Dmitri: Heads over to the Commisar
Kazemi (Dmitri): is it Commissar-Comrade or Comrade-Commissar?
Tack (Ivan): Noo
Irina Petrova: The building above us was my home and business. Where we are now is all that I have left. I ran a restaurant before the Germans arrived, and with luck I will after the war is over.
Commissar Anotoly Titov: What is it soldier? (looks at Dmitri)
MacGyverovich: It is a great thing you are doing for the soldiers.
GM: Dmitri make a Notice check.
Dmitri: Notice [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 5]
Irina Petrova: It is the least I can do for the brave soldiers who are fighting to preserve our country.
[w] -> Dmitri: Okay, for as drunk as he looks...he is not intoxicated at all. He is doing a great job of faking being completely plastered.
MacGyverovich: I hope that this place may continue to motivate them, and last on through til our glorious victory
Irina Petrova: Yes! For Mother Russia and Comrade Stalin.
Irina Petrova: Now, if you will excuse me, I must take care of food in the kitchen.
MacGyverovich: Of course
Irina Petrova: (leaves)
[w] Dmitri: How are things going for you, Comrade?
[w] Dmitri: you looked pretty miserable from a distance
MacGyverovich: We should be taking our leave soon too, men. Our squad has inconveinced her far enough
Kazemi (Dmitri): Inconvenienced?
[w] -> Dmitri: Things are fine. Comrade Stalin has seen fit to bring me here to insure that our soldiers are doing all they can to defeat the invaders.
Tack (Ivan): SPELLING NAZI
GM: Amazingly, Mike's character has not been shot by the Commissar yet.
Kazemi (Dmitri): SCORE!
GM: Anything else people want to ask?
Nikolai: I ask the hot chick if she wants to have some sex out back.
GM: You get ignored. Then several other men who did not have the balls to ask drag you out back and give you a blanket party.
Nikolai: Oh snap.
Tack (Ivan): lol
[w] Dmitri: Could I ask for some useful advise? I've been hunting before, but never against Germans
MacGyverovich: Dmitri, haul him back
[w] -> Dmitri: Who are you asking?
[w] Dmitri: Commissar
[w] Dmitri: what do I roll to warm up to him?
[w] -> Dmitri: Persuasion
[w] Dmitri: spirit?
[w] Dmitri: (I have no useful skills)
[w] -> Dmitri: Yes, I know that.
Dmitri: Spirit [Critical failure!] [1d4 = 1]
Dmitri is using a benny
Dmitri: Spirit [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 5]
[w] -> Dmitri: He replies, "I don't hunt Germans. I hunt the traitors in our midst."
[w] MacGyverovich -> Ivan: you do realize that, more than likely, her rates are going to be insane when we come back
Kazemi (Dmitri): not playing that game
[w] Ivan -> MacGyverovich: Prolly. But I have wealthy American Ally. He will pay. New Yorkers have deep pockets
MacGyverovich: w/ Ivan so we better find and scavenge as much as we can the next day/session, just in case
Kazemi (Dmitri): really, now?
Kazemi (Dmitri): ROFL
Kazemi (Dmitri): LOL
Kazemi (Dmitri): COPTERS
Kazemi (Dmitri): SKATES
Tack (Ivan): Mike is obviously teasing the animals
[w] MacGyverovich -> Ivan: i wonder if she's been put there by the Germans to force us to fight among the other groups in order to survive
Kazemi (Dmitri): Commisars serve one purpose: Kill those with low morale or courage
[w] MacGyverovich: has she been put there by the Germans to force us to fight among the other groups in order to survive?
[w] Ivan -> MacGyverovich: I will just follow one of our lusty comrades when he inevitably chases her this evening
[w] -> MacGyverovich: Who, the attractive woman or the restaurant lady?
[w] MacGyverovich: irina
[w] -> MacGyverovich: I guess that is for me to know and you to find out.
[w] Dmitri: I'll do what I can to help
Kazemi (Dmitri): I'm not eating all my food, by the way
Kazemi (Dmitri): I'm going to take some with me
[w] Ivan -> MacGyverovich: Note that I do not have stealth of any kind.
[w] MacGyverovich: in other words, yes. it's risako all over again
Kazemi (Dmitri): bonus rations for later, you know?
[w] -> MacGyverovich: Nonsense, Risako wasn't evil.
[w] MacGyverovich: we never got to find out for sure, though
Dmitri: Bids the Commisar good luck and goes to drag Nikolai back
TADM: Why is it that any female character you guys come across is immediately assumed to be the evil mastermind?
[w] Ivan: GM Since I am dragged back to the "base" I will try to appear conked out by things, but keep an eye on Pavel, as he just may chase the pretty lady
Nikolai: (groans in misery, covered in bruises)
Tack (Ivan): I don't assume anything except that she will have insane combat ability
Tack (Ivan): No. Brad's female characters get extra points when they are created.
GM: She doesn't need insane combat abilitiy, she has 12+ soldiers ready to shoot you for her.
Tack (Ivan): Well that too but...
TADM: Ooookkkkaaaayyy...back to the story at hand...
GM: Dmitri and Mac make Notice checks on your way back to the factory where the rest of the squad is.
MacGyverovich: Notice [1d8 = 14]
Dmitri: Notice [1d4 = 5]
Kazemi (Dmitri): out of curiosity, did we bring our guns?
Kazemi (Dmitri): I'd like to have brought mine
[w] -> MacGyverovich: You see what looks like an impossibly large dog at point "D" on the map.
[w] Dmitri -> MacGyverovich: hey Nick
Nick (MacGyverovich): you have to walk through a warzone to get there. obviously, you would
TADM: I assumed you brought your guns. If you didn't...then...hmm.
[w] Dmitri -> MacGyverovich: wanna tell me what you see?
[w] MacGyverovich: ummm okay. is it real?
Kazemi (Dmitri): I don't know how you think sometimes
[w] -> MacGyverovich: Well, it is about 80 feet away from you, silhouetted by moon light, and it seems to be looking at you. If it is not real, then there is some really good stuff in the Vodka.
[w] MacGyverovich: goes up to get a better view
[w] -> MacGyverovich: It has bright yellow eyes and silvery fur.
[w] MacGyverovich: also, i didn't drink while i was there. i went to get facts and better grub
[w] Dmitri -> MacGyverovich: I'm a good aim, I can help ya out
[w] -> Dmitri: Mac walks away from you towards what looks like a giant wolf. You suspect that if this wolf stood on its hind legs, it would tower over you. Literally. Like your head would come to its stomach.
Dmitri: That was a lot of Vodka
[w] -> Dmitri: It has yellow eyes and silvery fur. Your time as a hunter tells you this wolf is not normal.
Ivan: Where?
Ivan: =)!
[w] MacGyverovich: does anyone else see it?
[w] -> MacGyverovich: The only people around right now are you, Dmitri, and Nikolai.
[w] -> MacGyverovich: Dmitri and Nikolai both seem to see it.
[w] Dmitri: hunter instincts tell me its relative level of combat prowess when compared to me?
Nikolai: Oww...my head...that is a big doggie.
[w] -> Dmitri: You see yourself getting one shot off, then being pwned in ways that are pretty gruesome.
Dmitri: Braces for flight with Nikolai
MacGyverovich: orders nikolai to go "investigate" it further as punishment for being a cockblock to the other comrades
Dmitri: He can hardly walk
Nikolai: Umm...no.
Nikolai: How about I just shoot in the air a couple times and see if it goes away?
MacGyverovich: Do you want to take his place, Private Dmitri?
Dmitri: no way
Dmitri: I'm not going to try to spook it
Dmitri: there's something wrong with it
MacGyverovich: No Nikolai. If it wanted to hurt us, it would have by now
Dmitri: we'd be dead
Dmitri: so let's leave before it changes its mind and forget about all of this
Nikolai: I vote we ignore it and go back to the rest of the squad.
Nick (MacGyverovich): Does it look sick or anything?
GM: Nope, it looks like it is watching you, sizing you up, determining if you are worth killing.
MacGyverovich: Remind me to send you two out on something dangerous later, if I don't kill you for insubordination first
MacGyverovich: walks up to it
Dmitri: I don't think you'll get the chance
[w] MacGyverovich: Can I tell its gender?
MacGyverovich: I don't want to be rude or call it the wrong name, since I'm totally expecting it to talk at this point
Nick (MacGyverovich): oops. that was ooc
[w] Ivan: GM Assuming I was being a good boy, I am where now? just strolling back to base with the two squad mates?
[w] -> MacGyverovich: you are about 30 feet away. You cannot tell it's gender.
[w] -> Ivan: you are back in the factory with the rest of the squad.
MacGyverovich: Um, hey there. Such a nice dog. Where did you come from?
Mac gets to within 30' of it, the creature sniffs dismissively once, turns around, and lopes off.
GM: It does not respond to your question.
Dmitri: Wolf. Not a dog, a wolf.
MacGyverovich: How would you know?
Dmitri: and not a wolf either, just leftover Vodka
Dmitri: right, because I've never been hunting before
Dmitri: I'm completely unaware of what wolves and dogs look like
Nikolai: Big doggie runs away
Dmitri: let's head back
Dmitri: Nikolai needs some recovery
MacGyverovich: Writes "two counts of insubordination - dmitri" in little notebook w/ the date
Nikolai: I vote sleep.
MacGyverovich: Let's head back. Or, I could have you follow it, Mr. Expert
MacGyverovich: looks at dmitri
Dmitri: Writes "one count of insanity and danger to the Motherland" in little notebook w/ the date
Dmitri: looks forward
Dmitri: I agree Nikolai
Nikolai: (staggers back to the Factory to sleep)
[w] MacGyverovich -> Dmitri: you'll need a bigger notebook *maniacal laughter*
[w] Dmitri -> MacGyverovich: you won't
[w] Dmitri -> MacGyverovich: if you know what I mean
MacGyverovich: gets status report from soldiers while i was away
Pavel: Yes sir! I have a status report sir! I fantasized about having sex with the hot chick in the Cellar about 20 times.
[w] MacGyverovich -> Dmitri: hastur hastur hastur klaatu barada nikto
MacGyverovich: smacks him
Vladimir: Sir! I have prepared my last will for when the Commissar from the Cellar shows up to kill me.
MacGyverovich: smacks him
Oleg: I taught Boris how to play poker.
Boris: I lost $10 to Oleg.
Dmitri: Good job, there
MacGyverovich: demands for my cut
Dmitri: Oi, it's a game between gentlemen
Nikolai: (passes out)
Ivan: Hey there comrades! How did you enjoy the banquet?
Dmitri: Nikolai got in over his head with that waitress
MacGyverovich: and everyone's cut, as it is all of our money
MacGyverovich: everyone's money, i mean
Pavel: Umm..no. I must save up money for that woman, so I can buy her something nice.
Dmitri: Careful, Pavel. Nikolai is what happens if you get too forward
Boris: I lost all my money to Oleg.
Tack (Ivan): LOL
MacGyverovich: did anything important happen? visits from commanding officers, attacks, shelling, etc
Dmitri: you're going to want to take it slowly
Ivan: No, nothing happened here at all
Oleg: Oh yeah, some Corporal came by and asked for your status report so that it could be given to Captain Petrovich.
Oleg: But you weren't around and didn't leave any status report, so I told him you were off cavorting somewhere and could not be bothered.
MacGyverovich: WHAT!?!
Ivan: Zing!
Dmitri: *foreheadsmack*
Boris: I asked the corporal to come back later, but he said that wouldn't be necessary.
MacGyverovich: Why the hell didn't you just tell him where we were?
Dmitri: +1 Zing
Dmitri: that's not a public place, MacGyvervich
Oleg: I didn't think you wanted to be bothered.
MacGyverovich: Or better yet, take him there? I'm sure he'd LOVE to know a place like that for soldiers
Dmitri: otherwise we wouldn't be looting
Boris: You weren't very specific about our instructions.
Nick (MacGyverovich): *recounts scene from "Spaceballs" w/ all the assholes*
MacGyverovich: That's because I didn't think any of you were trustworthy or capable enough to be left in charge, even for a brief time
[w] Dmitri -> Ivan: I personally like the fact that he hasn't realized you were there
Kazemi (Dmitri): *recounts scene from 40k where Commissar kills an unworthy trooper*
Soviet Infantry: ATTENTION SOLDIERS!
Ivan: Springs into as much attention as he can muster
Soviet Infantry: (several Infantry armed with SMGs and the Commissar from the Cellar come up the stairs)
Nick (MacGyverovich): oops.
Dmitri: YES SIRS
Commissar Anotoly Titov: You and you. Come with me. (points at Vladimir and Mac)
MacGyverovich: Follow him, Vlad
Commissar Anotoly Titov: (Looks at Dmitri) No, not you, you are in charge. If he (points at Mac) comes back, he will resume command.
[w] Ivan -> Dmitri: Seriously, what could you have possibly done to provoke this
Dmitri: Yes sir
[w] Dmitri -> Ivan: NOTHING! That's the best part!
Soviet Infantry: Private Dmitri. I need this Sector's Status Report. NOW!.
Nick (MacGyverovich): Probably should take something with us that's of value of us. And heavy. No sense wasting good Soviet rocks to drown us or bash our skull in with
[w] Dmitri -> Ivan: My guess is that Vlad's suspicious and will be killed and Nick, as his commander, will be questioned about it
Soviet Infantry: (points gun at Dmitri)
Dmitri: Lots of shelling and few Germans sir
Soviet Infantry: Very good. Carry on.
The Commissar, the soldiers, Vladimir, and Mac leave.
Aside from hearing a gunshot at some point, Mac does not remember much. It is dark. There is a lot of shouting.
GM: Mac make Persuaion roll.
Nick (MacGyverovich): waits for the flood of whispers
Kazemi (Dmitri): OR DIE
Kazemi (Dmitri): I suggest Bennies
Kazemi (Dmitri): SUBTRACT TWO!
Tack (Ivan): I have 3 Bennies. someone do something that makes me do something drastic or take wounds
Kazemi (Dmitri): lol
Dmitri: should've spent them to translate
MacGyverovich: [1d6 = 6]
About two days later, a beaten, bloody, and fatigued Mac returns to the factory.
Ivan: ....
Dmitri: Comrade
Ivan: WE GOT A MAN DOWN, Who has some vodka to return this man to the fight?
Ivan: I need 10mL of Absolut, Stat!
Dmitri: It disinfects wounds! Quickly, now!
MacGyverovich: Now, if any of you EVER tell that to the Commisar again, you all get to make that trip with me
MacGyverovich: looks at Oleg especially
Dmitri: To be honest, I doubt that's why you got that sir
MacGyverovich: New order 1: You must ask if you can have permission to speak freely
MacGyverovich: New order 2: All request are denied until further notice
Pavel: Where's Vladimir?
MacGyverovich: You don't want to know
Dmitri: we must ASK if we have permission to SPEAK freely?
MacGyverovich: Yes, Dmitri
Dmitri: removes hat
Oleg: I think he's in the big factory in the sky.
Ivan: Wait, what? if I have to ask, before I can speak..Um
Tack (Ivan): appears confused. Surely there are great mysteries abound
GM: Ivan and Dmitri make Vigor checks.
Dmitri: Vigor [1d6 = 2]
Dmitri is using a benny
Dmitri: Vigor [1d6 = 5]
Ivan: Vigor [1d6 = 11]
MacGyverovich: brb afk
GM: The couple days of rest seem to help your health tremendously. You have recovered from your injuries.
Ivan: Ah, I feel refreshed. No more loud noises. Silly germans....
Dmitri: I wonder what they've been up to, though
Oleg: The last couple of days, there has been a lot of fighting north of us.
Ivan: MMM, who wants to look for some sorta junk that Irina would want?
GM: If you are going to look for Salvage, make a Smarts or Survival check (one per day) for the two days that Mac was gone.
[w] MacGyverovich: would I heal my fatigue, too
Ivan: Survival [1d6 = 5]
Ivan: Survival [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 4]
[w] MacGyverovich: oh, n/m
[w] -> MacGyverovich: Not until you get 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep.
Dmitri: Smarts [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 2]
Dmitri: Smarts [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 2]
MacGyverovich: Smarts [Critical failure!] [1d10 = 1]
Ivan is using a benny
MacGyverovich: Smarts [1d10 = 4]
Ivan: Survival [1d6 = 10]
Dmitri is using a benny
Dmitri: Spirit [1d6 = 7]
GM: You find about $30 worth of Salvage. So $15 each for both of you, mark it into your inventory.
Ivan: Yay!
Several Russian soldiers run up the staircase. Two of them are carrying large bags.
Ivan: Comrades!
Dmitri: Greetings Comrades
Soviet Infantry: (salutes Mac) Sir! There are several squads of Germans with tank support coming this way.
Soviet Infantry: Your Orders are to hold this location. We have scrounged up some anti-tank grenades for you.
Soviet Infantry: (open bag, hands each soldier two anti-tank grenades)
MacGyverovich: Thank you, comrade.
MacGyverovich: Looks at his men
Dmitri: Thanks
Ivan: 0.0
MacGyverovich: No, you can't eat them!
Soviet Infantry: Hold to the last man! Do not let the Fascists past you!
Kazemi (Dmitri): You see, I have a D12 in this
Dmitri: Not planning on it
Soviet Infantry: (the Soldiers leave to go to the next building)
Ivan: Notice [1d4 = 15]
Kazemi (Dmitri): NICE
Ivan: What are they doing there
Dmitri: Notice [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 8]
MacGyverovich: Get ready, men! This is what we've been waiting for
MacGyverovich: Notice [1d8 = 7]
Ivan: RPG-43 damage [3d6 = 6]
MacGyverovich: RPG-43 damage [3d6 = 20]
Ivan: Hey Mac
Ivan: Are these Impact or Pin greandes?
Ivan: I dont quite understand
MacGyverovich: Investigation [Critical failure!] [1d4 = 1]
MacGyverovich is using a benny
MacGyverovich: Investigation [Critical failure!] [1d4 = 1]
MacGyverovich is using a benny
MacGyverovich: Investigation [1d6 = 4]
According to Mac, it appears as though these grenades are activated by sitting on them. He considers demonstrating for a couple seconds before he realizes, oh wait...these are Impact grenades and that would set them off.
Kazemi (Dmitri): They're not grenades, they're eggs!
Tack (Ivan): Get the fire! Mmm Omlets....
GM: Time for the practice round of combat against the tank.
Ivan: ooh coolness
GM: It shoots....
Tack (Ivan): Thats many dice
GM: Anyone it shoots at has a Toughness of 5...
GM: So the Coaxial MG makes one person Shaken. Someone else gets Shaken and takes two Wounds.
GM: The Front MG makes someone else Shaken and does 1 Wound.
Tack (Ivan): So its going to take all the bennies we have just to get close, and then getting out is another matter entirely? Swoot!
GM: The main turret makes everyone underneath a Medium Blast Template Shaken and Wounded also.
Nikolai: For the record the "redshirts" have 1 Wound each before they die.
Ivan: Ugh
GM: And that's just one tank! If there are more...
GM: So any of the "redshirts" under the blast template would be dead after the first round.
Tack (Ivan): And im guessing that tanks arent the ulitmate bad things heh
GM: Nonsense...there is absolutely nothing scarier than a Tank that this group will ever have to face!
