Savage Worlds Ruleset for Fantasy Grounds II
(c) 2009 Pinnacle Entertainment Group.
The choppers take you north, into (or possibly across) the DMZ between North and South Vietnam. You see several other flights of helicopters coming in to the same area. A large group of Army Engineers is already there, carving out a firebase from the exceptionally dense jungle.
TADM: Which is how I get everyone into the mission who was not here, and cycle out anyone who is not here this time.
As the helicopters land, the squad gathers as Sergeant Withers talks with Lieutenant Harbin and gets whatever the new "urgent" orders are.
Hogpile: Hey, Airman Phoenix, good to see you!
Rooky: Oh look, it's a grounded flyboy.
Corbin Phoenix: Hey... yeah... it's me again.
Corbin Phoenix: They just keep sending me back here.
Waddles: Airman? Can't we ever meet a space man?
Corbin Phoenix: I have to assume I'm being requested by name.
Hogpile: That or the guy with the dart board has really good aim for your location.
As the squad looks around, you notice that this little Firebase is accumulating a lot of firepower. Batteries of 60mm and 81mm mortars, and Recoilless Rifles are being setup to create firezones. The engineers are pushing into the brush to clear a field 60 yards beyond the edges of the firebase.
Colwyn O'Reilly: impressive work...
Becker: Not quite sure what we need the anti-tank stuff for, the jungle around here is so thick I doubt a tank could drive through this.
Samson: The anti-tank guns are for the gookzillas.
Waddles: Really? Are those like big lizards?
Samson: (eyes twitch)
Corbin Phoenix: gookzillas?
Hogpile: Hey Samson, how about you go check our supplies?
Colwyn O'Reilly: big badda gooks
Hogpile: Yeah, last big fight we were in, these 7' tall giant sized VC came at us. They took a lot of shots to put down.
Colwyn O'Reilly: where are they putting the med tent?
Colwyn O'Reilly: erm... mess tent... yeah... that too
Tyran Drenski: Where do you need help
Corbin Phoenix: I'd like to check in with the mortar teams if that's okay with Sarge... just get an idea of how they are setting up
Hogpile: Sure thing Phoenix. If Withers asks I'll let him know you were checking with them. Probably a good idea, being the FAC and all.
GM: The med tent is at the 9'o'clock position, if the Command Bunker is considered "12'o'clock"
GM: There is no mess tent. But they are flying in MREs.
Nessie (Tyran Drenski): woot volley ball!!
Asher (Colwyn O'Reilly): thanks
About ten minutes later, Withers calls everyone together and outlines a rough approximation of what is going on.
Nessie (Tyran Drenski): who needs mortars when you have the thumper god!!
Corbin Phoenix runs on back over to the group.
Withers: Okay folks, this one promises to be nasty, in multiple ways.
Withers: Evidently, somewhere in this exceptionally dense jungle region within the DMZ is something the North Vietnamese are after.
Withers: Really after. Intel shows an entire division moving into this area.
Colwyn O'Reilly: wouldn't happen to be a place called La Drang, would it?
Tyran Drenski: Wow sounds like a blast... (frowns)
Withers: Nope, not quite sure what this is called, but La Drang is a long ways south of here. Now we are not quite sure what they want, but they want it, and obviously we don't want them to get it.
Dugan: I call the top bunk!
Waddles: I want to bunk with Dugan!
Colwyn O'Reilly looks for a can of whomp ass in his backpack
Samson: I think we should let them bunk together. (loads M79 with willy-pete)
Waddles: You snore.
Becker: Silence all ye under the mental age of 4. (looks at Waddles and Dugan)
Dugan: hey! I represent that remark
Dugan: whoops ... sorry sarge
Dhu (Dugan): motions a zipper across his lips
Withers: Right, so anyway, first we need to go scout the area and see what is around, maybe pick up a few clues.
Colwyn O'Reilly: and our squad is volunteered for that detail?
Dugan: hoo ah
Withers: Well, pretty much everyone is volunteered for that detail.
Dugan: whoops ... sorry sarge
Dugan: zipper motion again
Samson: (eyes twitch - points M79 at Dugan)
Colwyn O'Reilly steps away from dugan
Withers: And I think we can all agree that Samson needs some time away from populated areas and to act as point.
Tyran Drenski: come on samson lets go load up on ammo
Colwyn O'Reilly is pretty sure someone with a lot of stars on his hat just asked him to go check out the medical bunker
Samson: Good idea Drenski.
Dugan: reloads .. checks ammo supply... drinks water & refills canteen
Withers: So meet up at the break in the barbed wire in five minutes, then we are heading out for some recon. And pack plenty of water, the weather forecast for today is officially "Hotter than Hell with 110% humidity"
Colwyn O'Reilly drinks some extra water now
Corbin Phoenix checks ammo, water.
Dugan: drinks extra water ... pees ... refills canteens
Tyran Drenski restocks... down loads extras at bunk and drinks a ton of water and refills. Keeps Samson from killing Dugan and Waddles
TADM: Good luck with that last request...
Tyran Drenski checks statue.
GM: The little green statue is sitting quielty in your pack, looking cute and harmless.
Colwyn O'Reilly recons an extra clip and canteen from *some* where
Dugan: ahh... look at him... he's so cute...
Dugan: sorry sarge
Dugan: zipper motion again
Tyran Drenski tries to keep samson from killing Dumb and Dumber
The five minutes pass, and the group assembles at the break in the barbed wire near the helicopter landing pad.
Rooky: Hey Waddles, where's the cat?
Waddles: Mr. Scruffy had to go find a litter box, and I did not want to disturb him.
Tyran Drenski: Did you have to say something?? Really?
Rooky: Yeah, I did. I hate people. I just don't show it like Samson does.
[w] Dugan: waddles hopefully he found Samson's bunk
Withers: Well, let's saddle up and move out. Phoenix, I want you to keep a good compass reading on that map. I have the feeling your FAC/FO skills are going to be key when the NVA figures out we are here and we need to call in support.
Waddles: Can I carry the radio?
Rooky: No, we want it to work later.
Withers: Samson, take point.
Corbin Phoenix nods.
Corbin Phoenix: And I'll carry the radio.
Tyran Drenski follows the squad
The squad heads into the jungle. It is exceptionally dense here. In most places visibility is 15-20' There are times when the squad reaches a depression and the visibility drops to a few feet in any direction.
Becker: If there is something hiding out here, it could take us years to find it like this.
Dugan: weee!
Corbin Phoenix: But on the other hand... we could stumble on a who group of something hiding and not even know.
Dugan: sorry sarge
Dugan: zipper ...
Dugan: the who?
Dugan: isn't that a garage band?
Dugan: whoops... sorry sarge
Dugan: zipper
Samson: CAN I FRIGGIN' KILL HIM?
Withers: Noise discipline everyone, that's enough out of all of you.
Tyran Drenski: Watch your step could be traps.
Dugan: watchin'
Tyran Drenski: (whispers to Withers) maybe Samson should be very far from the dumb twins??
The background jungle noise is pretty strong here, if someone was a botanist they would probably have found about forty new species of plant in the first hour of travel.
There are a lot of brightly plumed birds overhead, squawking away and generally making enough noise that a semi could pass you and you probably would not notice.
Tyran Drenski looks around for traps, large animals, VC, Beer
Colwyn O'Reilly: I'm a medic, not a scientist, damnit
Dugan: what kind of bug is this? which way is north? how many legs does a centipede have? have we seen this tree before? where did the sky go?
Dugan: sorry sarge
Dugan: zipper
Samson: THAT'S IT!
Samson: (fires M79 at Dugan)
Tyran Drenski pulls samson back
Dugan: WHAT? Did you find IT?
Dugan: sorry sarge
Dugan: zipper
Samson: Shooting [1d8 = 12]
Dugan: ducks
Colwyn O'Reilly dives behind some trees
Nessie (Tyran Drenski): Dugan may need a medic
TADM: Well, this is going to be a short night...
Tyran Drenski thinks about taking all of samson's grenades for himself.
Dugan: dugan thinks about using all his grenades on samson
Samson: [3d6 = 50]
Withers: Well, it is a good thing that I wired up the safety on that. Samson, point the M79 at the bad guys.
Samson: No problem, can I stand first watch tonight?
Withers: No.
Samson: Can I have my pistol back?
Colwyn O'Reilly lowers his gun from aiming at samson's head
Tyran Drenski sighs for the lack of killing
Withers: No.
Colwyn O'Reilly: that was a little too exciting guys
Tyran Drenski: Dugan please whisper anything you want to say so samson can't hear you.
Dugan: like what?
Tyran Drenski: For your sake
Dugan: his safety is wired... I can say anything I want
Tyran Drenski: Any thing you think you should say with your outside voice
Dugan: sticks thumbs in ears ... flays fingers in the air ... and sticks his tongue out at Samson ...
Tyran Drenski: He still has hand dugan and you still have to sleep.
About an hour later, the squad has gone maybe five miles total.
Hogpile: Seriously Withers, do we have any idea what it is we are looking for?
Corbin Phoenix checks our position on the map.
Dugan: is it this? this is a pretty flower
[w] Corbin Phoenix: What's the range on the mortars from our base?
Dugan: I'm going to keep it and send it home to Ma
Withers: Mostly I'm looking for booby traps. I figure anything else will probably just magically appear.
[w] Corbin Phoenix: I'm seeing the range on 80mm mortars online as being about 450 meters.
[w] Corbin Phoenix: no wait that was the 2" mortar
[w] Corbin Phoenix: 80mm mortar range is 3000 meters.
Nessie (Tyran Drenski): So now is when we all die because it is tooooo quiet
Dugan: she collects pretty flowers ... did I ever tell you about the time that I picked a bunch of flowers for Ma ... and did you see the look on her face when ... ooo ... sorry sarge
Dugan: zipper
Colwyn O'Reilly has visions of duct tape
[w] -> Corbin Phoenix: You are about 1500 meters out of range for the mortars.
Tyran Drenski stays out of the line of fire from samson to dugan.
Corbin Phoenix: really? I'm seeing that vietnam era 80mm mortars had a range of about 1.8 miles.
Randall Breckenridge: hey y'all
Dugan: moves back so that Waddles is in the line of sight between he and Dugan... he's at least that smart
John (Randall Breckenridge): Richard is still climbing around the mountains of New Mexico so he won't be around this week either
Withers: Everyone take cover and keep an eye out. Phoenix and I are going to plot where we are and the return route.
Dhu (Dugan): well that doesn't read right... Waddles is line of sight between samson & Dugan
Withers: (squats down next to Phoenix and consults map)
Corbin Phoenix consults the map.
Dugan: crouches down in a cozy spot
Tyran Drenski gets behind cover
Withers: I think we are about here Phoenix. The base is here, so it looks like we are 4.5-5 miles out. It looks like if we follow this ridgeline here, we will angle back to within a 0.5 mile of base, then we can cross back to here. Look right to you?
Corbin Phoenix: Smarts [1d8 = 7]
Corbin Phoenix: Looks good to me.
[w] Dugan -> Corbin Phoenix: need a second opinion?
Colwyn O'Reilly: keeps an eye out for free ranging VC
Withers: All right, let's pack this batch of loonies up and follow this ridgeline.
Colwyn O'Reilly: they're organically grown, you know
Tyran Drenski the are tastier free ranged
Samson: Reppair [1d6 = 7]
Samson: (during this pause, I make the repair check to remove the extra safety and lock on my M79)
Tyran Drenski follows serg
The squad follows the ridgeline back, staying beneath the crest for about a half mile or so.
[w] -> Corbin Phoenix: At this point, you are still out of range of the mortars, but you are coming back at an oblique angle.
GM: Notice checks.
Dugan: Notice [1d4 = 7]
Colwyn O'Reilly: Notice [1d6 = 5]
Tyran Drenski: Notice (GOOD) [1d8 = 5]
Corbin Phoenix: Notice [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 4]
Samson: Notice/Danger Sense [1d8-2 = 4]
Samson: Take cover!
Tyran Drenski takes cover
TADM: NPC with Danger Sense. Very nice.
Dugan: ducks ... takes cover
Corbin Phoenix ducks and covers... dives to the ground.
Dugan: ducks & takes cover
Colwyn O'Reilly just goes prone, now I'm in 100% cover
A trio of mortar shells plows into the squad.
Corbin Phoenix Crap, Mortar fire! We need to get the hell out of here.
[w] Corbin Phoenix: I look around for a Forward Observer.
[w] Corbin Phoenix: I also try to hide.
NVA Regular: [3d8 = 18]
Randall Breckenridge feels bracketed
Corbin Phoenix: Notice (Good) [1d6 = 5]
Dhu (Dugan): better to be bracketed than targetted
Corbin Phoenix: Stealth [1d6 = 7]
Colwyn O'Reilly feels dead
GM: Fortunately, everyone having a chance to take cover and getting an extra defense bonus for the dense foliage means several people are Shaken, no one is wounded.

Corbin Phoenix
Randall Breckenridge: ow
Corbin Phoenix: What directions are the shots coming from? and I look around for any holes or ditches.
Dugan: and traps .. watch out for traps
GM: The shots seems to be coming mostly from the north. There are lots of folds and ridges around here for someone to hide in.
Corbin Phoenix: I duck into a hole and pull out my radio. I radio back to base that we are under attack and give them our position.
GM: Fire Support roll

Corbin Phoenix: Notice (Good) [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 7]
[w] -> Tyran Drenski: Over the noise of the battle, you hear something really..strange...it sounds like people nearby are speaking French. Also, you keep hearing single-shot bolt action rifle fire.
[w] Dugan: sorry will be afk for a few minutes ... apologies
Randall Breckenridge: Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 6]
Samson: Shooting [1d8 = 7]
Samson: M79 (25/50/75) damage [3d6 = 23]
Samson: Kaboom! HAHAHAHAHA!
Becker: Shooting [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d8 = 1]
Rooky: Shooting [1d8 = 3]
Hogpile: Waddles and I are cooling the M60.
Colwyn O'Reilly
Randall Breckenridge: Notice (GOOD) [15]
Randall Breckenridge: oops
Tyran Drenski: Hey serg people are speaking french over there
Colwyn O'Reilly: Shooting: M1 Carbine (Long Range -4, Cover (Medium) -2, 3 Round Burst +2) [1d8-4 = 1]
Tyran Drenski: Hey serg there is also Single-Shot bolt rifle fire over there as well...any ideas?
Withers: What the heck are you talking about Drenski?
Tyran Drenski: I think the French legion is near by got any intel for that?
Withers: The French Legion has not been in this area for at least 10 years.
Jackson Dane: Shooting: M60 [1d6 = 11]
NVA Regular: Spirit [1] [1d8 = 3]
NVA Regular: Spirit [2] [1d8 = 2]
NVA Regular: Spirit [3] [1d8 = 1]
GM: Jackson kills one and suppresses two.
Tyran Drenski: That maybe true but I can hear their weapons and hear french, serg we are not alone here.
Randall Breckenridge: Ah think the hit to th head did somethin
Jackson Dane: Shooting: M60 [1d6+2 = 11]
Nessie (Tyran Drenski): no I had a 15 notice check...lol
One of the gunners on the Huey kills a pair of VC with the side gun.
Jade Golem: Actko piket!
John (Randall Breckenridge): thats mighty fine listening
Jade Golem: Shooting [1] [1d6 = 5]
Jade Golem: Shooting [2] [1d6 = 4]
Jade Golem: Shooting [3] [1d6 = 1]
Jade Golem: Shooting [4] [1d6 = 3]
Tyran Drenski: Yes Actko Piket
Captain Wildcat Barnowe: What the? The NVA brought SAMs to this fight.
Wildcat manages to swing the Huey out of the way of the first rocket, the second one catches the tail and the gunship starts spinning out of control, it lands with a nicely controlled crash near the group.
Corbin Phoenix: Hmm... that's not good.
Captain Wildcat Barnowe: Private Dane, grab one of those M60s. Take cover.
Randall Breckenridge
Randall Breckenridge: head toward the copter to save wildcat
Jackson Dane: Yes sir
There is a lot of fire going on, but the NVA do not seem to be interested in firing at you. There is also a lot of shouting going on, in both Vietnamese and French.
Withers: Well, if Drenski has gone nuts, so have I.
Corbin Phoenix
Tyran Drenski: See serg!
Colwyn O'Reilly: i am le tired!!!
Corbin Phoenix: I hold my fire... soon as the next person breaks cover to run I fired into the jungle.
Round 6
Dealing cards...
Colwyn O'Reilly
Colwyn O'Reilly run towards helicopter to check for wounded
[w] Jackson Dane: what are the ammo counts again? 3xrof for full auto and what for spray and pray?
[w] -> Jackson Dane: Spray and pray is x5
It looks like Private Dane and "Wildcat" survived mostly unharmed. The other door gunner is lying in a heap near the chopper.
Jackson Dane
Corbin Phoenix: Shooting [1d4 = 3]
GM: The jungle announces, "Help, help, I'm being repressed."
Nessie (Tyran Drenski): lol
[w] Jackson Dane: how do I know how far that is?
[w] -> Jackson Dane: I forgot to turn the grid on. It is medium range.
[w] Jackson Dane: and how does it work with hogpile being there?
[w] -> Jackson Dane: You can shoot "over" him, assume he is not blocking your line of fire.
Jackson Dane: Shooting: M60 [1d6 = 5]
GM: That misses.
Tyran Drenski
Tyran Drenski continues to walk back towards withers and fires
Tyran Drenski: Shooting: M79 G. Launch (Marksman +2) [1d6+2 = 13]
Tyran Drenski: M79 G. Launch damage (Thumper God +2) [3d6+2 = 11]
Samson: Kill stealer! Err...I mean, good shot Drenski!
Becker: Shooting [1d8 = 4]
Tyran Drenski: Thanks Samson
Rooky: Shooting [1d8 = 4]
Hogpile: Waddles and I continue to cool/repair the machine gun.
Waddles: Hogpile lets me hold the broken parts.
Withers: Shooting [1d8 = 11]
Withers: M16 (24/48/96) damage [2d6 = 10]
Withers: One less...
Randall Breckenridge
Randall Breckenridge: continue to chopper wrecjk
John (Randall Breckenridge): no need to shoot when we have a platoon's worth of hvy wpns
You arrive at the chopper wreck. Now that you are there to pull on the door from the outside, you and Wildcat are able to pry the door open and he gets out of the burning chopper.
Captain Wildcat Barnowe: Thanks marine. I owe you one.
Asher (Colwyn O'Reilly): save stealer!
Randall Breckenridge: ah get out, you patch em up
Captain Wildcat Barnowe: (waves to Colwyn) Check on Miller, he's the other door gunner.
Dugan
Corbin Phoenix
Corbin Phoenix: I take a shot. Medium Range, Medium Cover?
It looks like the NVA are in full retreat. Either their plan was to pin you down just to shoot down the chopper, or something else is driving them off.
GM: Yes.
[w] Jackson Dane: when I fire the M60, at minimum I will expend 9 ammo, correct? I can never deduct just 3?
[w] -> Jackson Dane: Yes.
Corbin Phoenix: Shooting (Double Tap +1, Medium Range -2, Cover (Medium) -2) [1d4-3 = 10]
GM: WOW
TADM: It's the magic bullet!
Corbin Phoenix: Colt 1911 damage [Raise] [3d6+1 = 28]
Corbin Phoenix: [1d6 = 1]
Nessie (Tyran Drenski): WOOT for the killing machine WOOOOOOOW
Randall Breckenridge: whoo wee you got him good!!!!
Nessie (Tyran Drenski): Did you pray to the statue god???
Nessie (Tyran Drenski): worked for me once
Airman Phoenix fires a shot from his Colt 1911 and somehow manages to explode a VC, who was hiding behind a tree. They find parts of the deceased in Thailand.
GM: Okay...dropping out of combat timing for now.
GM: Colwyn make a Healing check on Miller.
[w] Jackson Dane -> Corbin Phoenix: do you manually type in the modifiers every time? Been so long that I don't remember how to make it do it
[w] Corbin Phoenix -> Jackson Dane: Press the +/- button in the upper right... and you'll have a whole bunch you can click on.
Colwyn O'Reilly: Healing {+2 Healer} [1d6+2 = 7]
Tyran Drenski: Mataka-hao and puts the statue up
Colwyn is able to stabilize Miller to keep him from dying.
Colwyn O'Reilly: woot
Captain Wildcat Barnowe: Good job...
[w] Jackson Dane -> Corbin Phoenix: oh...right...now how do you remove the dots from the modifier star?
Wildcat's statement is interrupted by the sound of gunfire.
GM: Notice checks.
Jackson Dane: Notice (Double Tap +1, Double Tap +1) [1d6+2 = 7]
[w] Corbin Phoenix -> Jackson Dane: mouse wheel
Colwyn O'Reilly: Notice [1d6 = 4]
Corbin Phoenix: Notice (Good) [1d4 = 2]
Randall Breckenridge: Notice {+2 Alertness} [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6+2 = 4]
Tyran Drenski: Notice (GOOD) [1d8 = 9]
Colwyn, Jackson, Randall, and Tyran notice that the gunfire was bolt-action rifles. Sort of like early WWII M1 Garand rifles.
Corbin Phoenix: Wow that had to be alot of rifles
[w] Jackson Dane: if I accidentally add a modifier, it puts the modifier in the star, and adds a little token. I know I can mouse wheel to increase/decrease the modifier, but the token remains. How can I remove the token without rolling (I know rolling clears them)
Withers: That's not automatic weapon fire.
Tyran Drenski: Did anyone notice those were bolt-action rifles?
Tyran Drenski: Sure sounded like it to me
[w] -> Jackson Dane: Mouse click and pull it away. It will show you dragging it off the modifier wheel.
Randall Breckenridge: real strange like
Randall Breckenridge: any bush natives still use them?
[w] Jackson Dane: ty
GM: Colwyn, Smarts check.
Colwyn O'Reilly: wonder if could get my hands on one of those
Tyran Drenski: Did we travel in time... (laughs then looks scared)
Colwyn O'Reilly: Smarts [1d8 = 4]
Withers: I doubt it.
[w] Jackson Dane: wants to make sure he has all the ammo he can carry from the copter before it goes up in flames
[w] -> Colwyn O'Reilly: You just heard someone speaking with a Bayou French accent say, "Henri, move that Maxim around, those other Japanese are near the crashed Zero! Suppress them!"
[w] -> Colwyn O'Reilly: Oh, and make a Guts check.
'Dhu' disconnected
[w] -> Colwyn O'Reilly: And another Smarts check.
Colwyn O'Reilly: Smarts [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 2]
Colwyn O'Reilly: Guts [1d6 = 11]
GM: Notice checks from everyone.
Randall Breckenridge: Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 13]
Jackson Dane: Notice [1d6 = 5]
Samson: Notice/Danger Sense [1d8-2 = 4]
Samson: Cover!
Tyran Drenski takes cover
Randall Breckenridge takes cover
Seconds after Samson calls out, a bizarre whirring rattle of machine gun fire fills the area. Those who rolled above a 4 on the Notice check realize that whatever machine gun is shooting at the squad belongs to the "really antiquated" variety.
Colwyn O'Reilly: Notice [1d6 = 3]
Colwyn O'Reilly goes prone again
GM: Everyone under a template needs to make a Spirit roll.
Colwyn O'Reilly: Spirit [1d8 = 15]
Withers: Spirit [1d8 = 15]
Tyran Drenski: Smarts [1d8 = 7]
Rooky: Spirit [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d8 = 1]
Tyran Drenski: Spirit [1d6 = 2]
Randall Breckenridge: Spirit [1d6 = 5]
Captain Wildcat Barnowe: Spirit [1d8 = 5]
Corbin Phoenix: Spirit [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 2]
Rooky: AAAGGHHH!!! I'm hit!
GM: Conviently, the only person who was hit was the guy right in front of the medic.
Withers: (shouts) Umm....bonjour?
Withers: Anyone parlez Francais?
Colwyn O'Reilly (french): stop firing! we are friends! eat my tasty shrimp dish!
Tyran Drenski: no i'm german and russain
Colwyn O'Reilly: umm... that didn't quite sound right... that last bit was a touch off
Tyran Drenski: I don't have that book
[w] Jackson Dane: any way to tell what direction the shots came from?
[w] Corbin Phoenix: I need to take off in about 10 minutes....
Base Radio Operator: (through PRC-25) Private Phoenix, you and your squad are to hold position and protect the wounded. A relief force is on the way.
Corbin Phoenix: Roger that!
Corbin Phoenix: I pass the news on to Withers.
[w] -> Corbin Phoenix: That's fine, I was planning on calling it a night in 10 minutes or so. :)
Both sprays of gun fire came from the area marked as the small circle on the map.
GM: As the squad looks around, you swear you see guys in white Foreign Legion uniforms taking cover behind trees.
Randall Breckenridge: hey, where you boys from??
Colwyn O'Reilly: I attempt to not have the guy in front of me die
Tyran Drenski: See told you the french foreign legion were here serg
[w] -> Colwyn O'Reilly: (French) You don't have any tasty shrimp dish! This god-forsaken Hellhole has no real food.
Jackson Dane: trains M60 on area
Withers: Yeah, and I'm telling you that is not the case Drenski.
[w] Colwyn O'Reilly: my apologies. we are americans. we are fighting the same enemy. stop firing!
Withers: Well, except that I can see one...which makes you right.
Tyran Drenski: wakes statue back up "Itiramam" "Piko"
Colwyn O'Reilly: Hold your fire! don't shoot them, they're french...
Colwyn O'Reilly: wait... what are the french still doing here?
Jackson Dane: so we should shoot them?
[w] -> Colwyn O'Reilly: (French) Americans! Bullshit! You aren't even in the war yet!
Colwyn O'Reilly: nevermind
[w] Colwyn O'Reilly: we're advanced troops on a covert op for your government
Colwyn O'Reilly: no, no shooty
Tyran Drenski: If they are againist the VC they should be on the same side right?
Withers: Well, if they are not shooting at us, don't shoot at them.
Colwyn O'Reilly: yes! yes tyran
Colwyn O'Reilly: Healing {+2 Healer} [1d6+2 = 6]
Colwyn O'Reilly: med kit usage [1d4 = 2]
Tyran Drenski: That means you samson
Rooky: Gurgle. Err...thanks.
Samson: What? I have no idea what you people are talking about. I think you are all off the deep end.
Legionnaire: (yells a lot in French)
Tyran Drenski: Open both eyes and you'll see
Jackson Dane: is he threatening me?
Tyran Drenski: No french but friends!!!
Corbin Phoenix reloads his pistol
[w] -> Colwyn O'Reilly: Right. Americans. If you are Americans I doubt you are working with the Vichy government.
Tyran Drenski reloads and pats the statue on the head
Colwyn O'Reilly: sonofabitch
Randall Breckenridge: do these guys seem mad, or threatening?
Withers: Colwyn, can you find out why there are French here?
Tyran Drenski: Hey doc you know french
[w] Colwyn O'Reilly: look... there's something odd going on here, because I don't think you should be here either... let's talk this through like gentlemen... you can agree with that, can't you?
[w] Colwyn O'Reilly: for example, no shooting
From the tone of their voices, they seem pretty threatening, and probably a little angry.
Randall Breckenridge: do they seem to see us and interact with our movement/gestures?
Jackson Dane: I could help make it so there aren't French here Withers
Colwyn O'Reilly: yes, that would be why I've been shouting in french for the last ten minutes
Withers: No need for that yet Private Dane.
Tyran Drenski: I can't hear you over here pansy
Withers: Technically the French and us are on the same side....I think.
[w] Randall Breckenridge: ear paste time
Jackson Dane: I still don't trust 'em
Colwyn O'Reilly: sarge... they don't know why we're here either... these guys are from.... somewhere french... they said something about the vichy government
Becker: I'm with Private Dane.
[w] Randall Breckenridge: use one up, whats the scoop
Colwyn O'Reilly: maybe they got left here when the french pulled out?
Jackson Dane: They should know that pulling out doesn't work
Colwyn O'Reilly: they found that jap in a cave from WWII that still thought he was fighting... it could happen.
Withers: The Vichy government was the government run by the Nazi collaborators in World War II. I doubt they are that old. The one that I'm looking at is more like 19.
Colwyn O'Reilly: pull and pray obviously didn't work for your parents, Dane.
Becker: Oh yeah, I remember reading about that dude.
Jackson Dane: obviously...
Jackson Dane: but then I wouldn't have been here to help save your ass O'Reilly
Jackson Dane: so you should thank them
Colwyn O'Reilly: I'm trying to get them to come and talk to us, all peaceful like
Jackson Dane: they are peaceful when they are dead, y'know
The shouting stops. The Legionnaires step out into the open and look at you cautiously. They are all wearing white Legionnaire uniforms and carrying World War I era French Lebels. Two guys in the back have Maxim style machine guns.
GM: Notice checks.
Jackson Dane: Notice [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 2]
Corbin Phoenix: Notice (Good) [1d6 = 8]
Colwyn O'Reilly: Notice [1d6 = 5]
Colwyn O'Reilly: this would be a good time to be nice, boys
Randall Breckenridge: Notice {+2 Alertness} [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6+2 = 5]
GM: Everyone who gets above a 4 needs to make a Guts check.
Randall Breckenridge: Guts [1d6 = 11]
Corbin Phoenix: Guts [1d6 = 5]
Tyran Drenski: Guts [1d4 = 3]
Colwyn O'Reilly: Guts [1d6 = 2]
Tyran Drenski is using a benny
Tyran Drenski: Guts [1d4 = 3]
Colwyn O'Reilly is using a benny
Colwyn O'Reilly: Guts [1d6 = 11]
Tyran Drenski: Fail!!!
Tyran Drenski: Notice (Good) [1d8 = 6]
If you rolled above a 4 on your Notice check, you realize that the Legionnaires are slightly translucent. And sort of shimmery around the edges. If you passed the Guts check, you rationalize that they are, indeed, ghosts.
Legionnaire: Hello. My Engrish lousy, Lieutenant says you Americans. This true?
Tyran Drenski: they are kinda funny looking
Waddles: How so?
Jackson Dane: because they're French
Colwyn O'Reilly: Well... what sort of trick of mirrors and smoke is this? Some kind of movie projection maybe? the VC are getting sneaky
Colwyn O'Reilly: yes... we're americans
Becker: I'm just going to close my eyes and hum. Let me know when they are gone.
Samson: I am going to officially put these guys in the "do not shoot" category.
TADM: Okay, we will pick up the conversation with them next week.
Corbin Phoenix: Uh...
Colwyn O'Reilly: awesome
Randall Breckenridge: hey guys, hows it going? Gran Prix, Tour de France,
Campaign saved.
