The group wakes up in the morning, surprsingly unmolested, not viciously slain by anything, although Slumbara is a bit annoyed to find Volmalric and Meltam spooning.
Feneril (Slumbara): And probably also that no one got molested
The sky is suspiciously bright and clear, and the large glowing white orb in the sky is rising gradually from the south of you.
GM: Wait...what?
Yes, from the south, didn't you read the notes?
GM: Err...yes?
In the distance, the ruins you spotted in the darkness last night are now nicely visible and seem significantly less scary.
Slumbara: Perhaps there we can find a new tuba
Meltam: No. No new tubas.
Meltam: they are the instruments of our demise.
Slumbara: A basoon then
It appears to be the remains of some sort of settlement, resting on a nice hill that would have provided a good view of the surrounding area and seems like it would have been nicely defensible from attack from the myriad denizens of this place.
Meltam rolls an Observation test:
Target: 12 Focus: 3 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 1 Momentum: 0 [1d20.13+1d20.7 = 20]
You did succeed!
Meltam: Shall we go investigage over yonder?
Volmalric: Honestly, we probably shouldn't take anything from here
Volmalric: Whether they be tubas or basoons
Meltam: Why would that be?
Volmalric rolls an Observation test:
Target: 9 Focus: 0 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 1 Successes: 0 Momentum: 0 [1d20.16+1d20.20 = 36]
You did not succeed.
Slumbara rolls an Observation test:
Target: 9 Focus: 1 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 1 Momentum: 0 [1d20.11+1d20.3 = 14]
You did succeed!
Meltam: We brough the tuba in. Theoretically things from here aren't that bad?
Volmalric is busy talking with Meltam and gesticulating, and is not as busy watching where he's going
Volmalric: I mean, things don't have to be as bad as the tuba to get us killed
GM: Technically, the tuba did not get any of you killed. The only person who died was Iskendra, and someone in the party did that.
GM: The Tuba Monster was banished and the Fire Elementals left on their own.
Volmalric: In retrospect, we should have burned it in a pyre to Mitra back when we discovered that playing it summoned monsters
Meltam: Hrm. The roads leading to that encampent make me believe it was abandoned in haste, as all too many settlments on the edge of the Black River end up.
Meltam: However, that should make it ripe for the pickings.
Meltam: Shall we? I doubt time is as elastic in here as we may perceive.
Slumbara: Well even if they left in a hurry, I doubt they would have left their brass instruments behind
Slumbara: but we should go check it out anyways
Volmalric: Agreed
Slumbara: And maybe we can find a suitable vessel for Volmalric to perform the dark ritual described to us by a mysterious demon
Volmalric: Pardon?
Volmalric: Which ritual was that?
Slumbara: Making the magic tooth
Slumbara: to kill the snake moster
Volmalric: Ah, yes, I thought the Tuba had whispered something to you for a second and I was rather alarmed
Slumbara: No don't be silly. Tuba's dont tell you to perform magic rituals
Slumbara: They tell you to eat your friends
Kazemi (Volmalric): Why has Slumbara, the largest of the adventurers, not eaten the other two?
Tack (Meltam): Winter Reserves.
Volmalric: That seems like a great way to run out of friends
Feneril (Slumbara): Also: depends which dimension you measure in, Slumbara is only 5'6"
Slumbara: No, you can always make friends
Kazemi (Volmalric): My mental image of Slumbara has those numbers flipped around
Meltam used a Fortune point to add a Natural 1 to their dice pool
Meltam rolls a Sorcery test:

Volmalric glances at Meltam, who has stopped walking
Volmalric: You okay there?
Meltam blinks as if lost in thought.
Meltam: Yes. This place is just a little taxing on me.
Volmalric: Well, hurry up, we don't want to lose too much of whatever daylight we have
Kazemi (Volmalric): How big are these ruins? Are they like town, village, or city sized?
Meltam rolls a Warfare test:
Target: 8 Focus: 0 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 1 Successes: 0 Momentum: 0 [1d20.13+1d20.20 = 33]
You did not succeed.
They look like small village sized, maybe 5 small buildings and a palisade around the exterior of the slight rise.
Meltam continues walking towards the ruins
Volmalric: Not the best of pickings, but time is of the essence, and everyone eats
As you walk closer to the ruins, all of you are aware of some discarded weaponry and blood stains, it looks like this place was not abandoned without a fight.
Meltam looks disturbed at the idea of another fine Hyborian town savaged.
Volmalric: What happened here?
Volmalric rolls an Observation test:
Target: 9 Focus: 0 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 0 Momentum: 0 [1d20.14+1d20.15 = 29]
You did not succeed.
Volmalric: It looks like this place was not abandoned without a fight

Meltam rolls a Thievery test:

You did succeed!
Slumbara looks disturbed at the idea of a fight that ended in retreat rather than massacre
Volmalric (whispered): Let's keep our voices down, there's no telling whether anybody - or anything - is left here
Slumbara rolls a Survival test:
Target: 9 Focus: 1 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 1 Momentum: 0 [1d20.11+1d20.6 = 17]

Slumbara survives
Feneril (Slumbara): BTW, talking to my wife so I can't talk on discord for a bit here
Slumbara: I still have one ear in there though
Slumbara: Hmm, I do not think so Volmalric
Slumbara: The corpses were clearly dragged away to the swamps
Slumbara: They were probably eaten, or raped, or raped and then eaten
Meltam gravitates towards one of the buildings.
Slumbara: Hopefully not eaten and then raped, that doesn't even make any sense
Volmalric looks in horror at Slumbara
Meltam rolls an Observation test:
Target: 12 Focus: 3 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 3 Momentum: 2 [1d20.2+1d20.5 = 7]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Volmalric follows Meltam over to the building, peering over his shoulder
Meltam: Aight Team. We can do the deed here.
Meltam: What incredible fortune to find this here
Volmalric: What's in there?
Meltam: The very best of civilization! A way to prepare meals!
Meltam: And in our case, obscure alchemy.
Slumbara: I would think the best of civilaztion is a toilet, but ok
Meltam: I'm happy to keep a set of eyes on the look out if you want to do this carefully.
Volmalric sees what looks like a ruined kitchen area. It does seem nicely stocked with equipment and has all you need. There are indications people were eating when this place was attacked, but any food stuffs that would have been in here have since been consumed by the wildlife. A few rats stare at you with beady eyes that seem to indicate, "We are expecting you to feed us for intruding on our territory."
GM: If only someone with Animal Handling was present to make an amazing roll...
GM: ;)
Volmalric makes eye contact with the rats
Volmalric: Are the rats maintaining eye contact, or just going about their ratty business?
Slumbara parlays with teh rats
Slumbara rolls an Animal Handling test:
Target: 12 Focus: 4 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 2 Momentum: 1 [1d20.1+1d20.16 = 17]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Slumbara does a dance of peace and asks the rats if there are any threats about
The buildings here have fallen into general disrepair, the kind you would expect from unmaintained wooden buildings exposed to the random supernatural storms of this place for a while. The only exception is a hole in the wall of the kitchen area, which is caved inwards as if something large and heavy struck the wall and forced it to collapse inwards. The door is also hanging on one hinge.
Meltam prays that Slumbara doesn't find demonic flute or fiddle to control rat swarms
Meltam: Well, Imma keep watch. this is your department, Volmalric
Volmalric: Slumbara, mind if you give the rats some food?
Volmalric: I think it might be better if we borrow some of the tools here, take them to a more ideal area, then return them
Meltam: I mean that's an idea Volmalric...what if you forget something, or if the items are tied to this fragment of a village?
Volmalric: That latter might be a bit of an isuse, but I won't forget things
Meltam raise an eyebrow skeptically.
Meltam: Slumbara has it under control.
Meltam: I've never seen an animal misbehave around Slumbara
GM: I've never seen a *natural* animal misbehave around Slumbara.
Volmalric rolls an Alchemy test:

Volmalric finds a cauldron and starts to mix in the items, then draws water from the well and adds it to the cauldron with the dragon tears, bat blood, and crocodile fang. Once the water comes in contact with the other three it begins frothing and foaming like someone shook up a bottle of Mountain Dew way too much.
On his instructions of how to prepare the spear, this is a little concerning since he has not even reached the, "place contents over roaring fire" stage.
Volmalric has borrowed a "Kiss the Chef" apron from under the counter, as well as a pair of heavy duty gloves
Volmalric gets the top of the cauldron and gets ready to defend himself from splashes
Volmalric: Ah, one of these, I don't like not knowing what to expect
Volmalric: Meltam, is the fire ready?
Volmalric spots a piece of paper that falls out of the pocket of the apron. He also finds it suspicious the apron was in that exact spot and is his size.
Volmalric uses the fire poker to stir, as per the instructions
Volmalric reads the note
Meltam used a Fortune point to add a Natural 1 to their dice pool

Fortunately, Slumbara does a dance of, "Don't eat him for being a doofus" and offsets his companion's misbehavior.
Meltam rolls an Observation test:
Target: 12 Focus: 3 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 1 Momentum: 0 [1d20.12+1d20.14 = 26]

Tack (Meltam): one day, imma get my 'responsible use of magic' merit badge. It won't be today though.
Kazemi (Volmalric): The only way to earn that is to not use magic
Meltam (and Volmalric) note the rats slink away and seem to hide and behave in more "normal rat-like" fashion after Meltam did something.
Volmalric: I wonder if these were all in chronological order?
Volmalric: Also, apparently the rats owe me a favor, so that's a relief
Volmalric: I think this place got cleared out by the Servitor a while back on one of the previous loops
Based on where he is in the process and how it is coming along, Volmalric suspects the enchantment on the crocodile fang will be done in about twenty minutes. Actually, after all the effort to reach this point it feels kind of anti-climatic. It is kind of like making stone soup in a 12 liter cauldron.
Meltam rolls an Observation test:
Target: 12 Focus: 3 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 1 Successes: 0 Momentum: 0 [1d20.17+1d20.20 = 37]

Meltam rolls a Healing test:

Volmalric: You okay?
Volmalric waves at Meltam with his cauldron lid, still stirring
Meltam appears vaguely disoriented
A Doom chit has been used by the GM
A Doom chit has been used by the GM
A Doom chit has been used by the GM
Volmalric rotates around the cauldron to get a better view of Meltam as he works
Tack (Meltam): In before I land head first in the cauldron and end up with the head of a <random animal>
Tack (Meltam): a crocodragon crying for all eternity.
Meltam seems to have a splinter or something in his eye. As part of his proud Bossonian heritage as a people who are familiar with the use of bows and arrows this would normally not be a major issue. As he prepares a time-honored and reliable way to deal with this situation, he realizes that the one element he needs is clean, preferably sterilized (i.e. boiled) water. As the pain of the splinter gets a bit too much for him, he makes the decision that clearly all the water in the cauldron means it is totally okay to use some of that on his bandage he is preparing.
So, using his incredible stealth skills combined with Volmalric being jumpy about rats, he manages to sneak over, dab the cloth in the cauldron, and pull it out. Then he applies it to his eye to remove the splinter.
Volmalric: WHAT?!
This causes a rat on the rafters above to begin laughing its ass off, and it then falls off the rafter and does a beautiful swan dive RIGHT INTO THE CAULDRON.
Volmalric: Oh noooooOOO
Meltam is ignorant of what is going on around him, as the soothing poultice assists nicely in removing the splinter after a minute or so.
A Momentum chit has been used by Volmalric (Kazemi)
Volmalric rolls an Acrobatics test:
Target: 9 Focus: 1 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 3 Momentum: 2 [1d20.4+1d20.7+1d20.9 = 20]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Volmalric quickly fishes the rat out, catching it on the edge of the firepoker and getting it onto the cauldron lid, then dropping it beside the cauldron
This makes Meltam feel much better, but he does have a strange desire to wear crocodile skin clothing and a longing to have bat wings. Fortunately, he suspects he might be able to achieve this with proper sorcery.
Volmalric partially covers the cauldron with the lid, defensive about more shenanigans and not allowing Slumbara to get a drink no matter how thirsty
The rat looks slightly boiled and in need of medical attention. Fortunately, Slumbara is an excellent veterinarian and offers to assist with this problem.
Campaign saved.
