Echo reaches forward to touch the odd looking stonework doors.
Volmalric throws a concoction at the Echo's face
Meltam rolls a Stealth test:
Target: 14 Focus: 2 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 1 Momentum: 0 [1d20.18+1d20.4 = 22]
You did succeed!
Volmalric rolls an Alchemy test:
Target: 13 Focus: 3 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 1 Momentum: 0 [1d20.17+1d20.9 = 26]
You did succeed!
Meltam creeps behind the party. If you are reading this, you haven't noticed.
Slumbara rolls an Observation test:
Target: 9 Focus: 1 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 1 Successes: 2 Momentum: 1 [1d20.1+1d20.20 = 21]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Slumbara (shouting): Meltam, why are you sneaking around?
Slumbara points at Meltam
Meltam: The un-natural light gives me a headache.
Volmalric: The fluid and powder hit the corpse's face, the combination expanding into a rust-brown foam that clings to its eyes and mouth to blind it. He shoves it to the side to unalign it with the door
Meltam rolls a Persuade test:
Target: 10 Focus: 3 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 1 Momentum: 0 [1d20.14+1d20.5 = 19]
You did succeed!
Volmalric: I think we very much don't want to let this creature open up the door
Meltam: What happens if the keymaster finds the gatekeeper?
Volmalric hits the corpse with his shoulder, but it doesn't budge
Volmalric: Slumbara, help!
GM: Mass hysteria, dogs and cats living together. But if we stop this thing, then you, Lennie, will have saved the lives of millions of registered voters.
Echo touches the door, despite Volmalric's efforts.
Nothing happens.
Echo: Hmm...perhaps this one is not intact enough to get through?
Meltam rolls a Thievery test:
Target: 10 Focus: 1 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 2 Momentum: 1 [1d20.1+1d20.18 = 19]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Volmalric notices that Echo is not using the clogged mouth to speak.
Slumbara: You seem to be making a big deal out of nothing
Slumbara: The ghost man seems nice
Volmalric: Nothing down here is going to be "nice", especially things trying to open more doors
Slumbara: But we are trying to open more doors
Slumbara: So we can steal a book from a grave
Slumbara: And we are very nice
Meltam: Echo, I will open this door under a few conditions....
Meltam rolls a Society test:
Target: 11 Focus: 4 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 1 Successes: 1 Momentum: 0 [1d20.20+1d20.7 = 27]
You did succeed!
Meltam: ...but you first must tell us what is behind it, and what your interests are with it.
Echo: My corpse, a book, and some debris. The book is what you are seeking. The debris you are welcome to loot. My corpse I would prefer you to incinerate. I have been down here for a very, very long time, and just wish to go home.
Meltam rolls an Insight test:
Target: 11 Focus: 2 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 2 Momentum: 1 [1d20.15+1d20.2 = 17]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Slumbara: Volmalric is very good at incinerating things
Slumbara: If that word means what I think it means
Meltam: Well that is a pretty good answer. I guess the only follow up is, how did you become separated from your body in the first place?
Echo: The wards of the long dead are strong enough to keep me here, but have decayed enough that my mind can move around this place and its environs.
Meltam: Would home be in a place far beyond these lands, so much so that we would never need to worry about it again?
Echo: It is.
Meltam: Is it....in the book?
Meltam: ARE you the book?
Echo: No, the Book was penned by one of your kind in a previous age. It deals with how to commune with my kind. I doubt the knowledge to use it still exists in this world, so I consider it fair payment for my release.
Slumbara: He said "book" AND "corpse"
Meltam: Great, now I know how to page you in the future!
Slumbara: Well, your ghost shit didn't work, Slumbara will try brute force
Volmalric: I've heard of books made of human flesh
Slumbara attempts to kick the door open
Volmalric: So that overlap was clever to think of, Meltam
Slumbara rolls an Athletics test:
Target: 14 Focus: 3 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 1 Momentum: 0 [1d20.10+1d20.19 = 29]
You did succeed!
Meltam: Yeah Volmalric, things seemed too streamlined for the gimmick to not be something like that.
Tack (Meltam): If Slumbara hasn't kicked down the door in a dramatic action fashion, ill open it
Volmalric: That and the possibility it may not be telling the truth at all
Slumbara slams his foot into the door, and it opens effortlessly, causing Slumbara to stagger around as the amount of force to move what looked like a heavy stone door was easily overestimated.
Slumbara: Well we will know soon
Slumbara: Meltam, you grab the book. Volmalric you burn the copse
Stagnant, rotten smelling air floods out of the room.
Meltam: Volmalric, do not grab the book. I have a plan.
It is pitch black inside, beyond the flickering of your lights. There is no way to judge the size of the room, but you can tell it must be significantly larger than expected.
Meltam rolls an Insight test:
Target: 11 Focus: 2 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 1 Momentum: 0 [1d20.10+1d20.18 = 28]
You did succeed!
Volmalric: Echo, what else is in here?

You did not succeed.
Slumbara: Darkness
Echo: Nothing.
Slumbara: And shadows
Echo: Debris and junk from the battle that happened which ended with the barriers you observed.
Volmalric: Is it a Nothing that can kill us?
Echo: Nothing can kill a great many people, entropy is the death of all.
Echo steps forward like he is going to walk into the room, but some barrier across the doorway blocks him.
Slumbara lights a torch and tosses it into the room
Slumbara rolls a Survival test:

The torch sails through the air for about thirty feet and it lands on the dessicated corpse of something large and feathery looking.
Meltam rolls a Lore test:

The creature looks like a large reptilian bird, complete with scales, feathers, and it looks like it was the size and weight of an elephant when it was alive. There is something horribly unsettling about the creature.
Meltam used a Fortune point to add a Natural 1 to their dice pool

Slumbara: So ghost friend, is that big dead bird thing your body?
Echo: Indeed.
Slumbara: Volmalric, can you make something flamable and toss it over there?
Meltam begins carving strange runes into a smooth part of the wall.
Echo: I don't suppose any of you have some oil to spread that fire out a bit? Otherwise I will burn for quite some time.
Volmalric: Do not enter that room
Slumbara: Let's burn that corpse, grab our book and get out of here
Slumbara looks for a book
Slumbara rolls an Observation test:

Slumbara: Why not?
Meltam: The book will take you.
Volmalric: The chalk there is still in tact, whatever it was containing an aeon ago it's still containing
Meltam's head turns as if a loud noise startled him before intently carving into the wall with a dagger.
Volmalric: Echo, why is your corpse held in chains?
Slumbara gasps
Slumbara: Did you lie to Slumbara?
Volmalric: Meltam, stop!
Echo: Because I was imprisoned here.
Slumbara pulls Meltam away from the wall
Slumbara: What manner of demon are you summoning now Meltam?

Meltam: Let Echo go!
Meltam: Do as Echo says!
Slumbara: Get a hold of yourself man
Slumbara slaps Meltam
Slumbara shakes Meltam
GM: Scene from Airplane where people with ever more violent implements are waiting to help the panicking passenger.
Slumbara rolls a Melee test:
Target: 13 Focus: 3 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 0 Momentum: 0 [1d20.17+1d20.18 = 35]
You did not succeed.
Volmalric: No, I do not think that's a good idea
Meltam: Echos kind is innocent! Don't you realize, we are the monsters on elm street!
Meltam rolls a Persuade test:
Target: 10 Focus: 3 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 0 Momentum: 0 [1d20.12+1d20.13 = 25]
You did not succeed.
Volmalric: I don't think "Innocent" things are trapped by salt, jade, and holy symbols
Meltam: Or it could be that salt, jade, and symbols were used to trap innocent things!
Slumbara: Slumbara will resolve this dispute
Echo: I don't think innocent people would use salt, jade, and holy symbols to imprison others.
Slumbara: If it is good, we should burn it because it asked us to
Slumbara: If it is bad, we should burn it because it is bad
Slumbara: So either way, Volmalric make a big bomb
Echo: Slumbara is brilliant and wise.

Rolling 7d6 combat dice...

Feneril:
[1d6.5+1d6.6 = 11]
Slumbara cuts off Echo's legs just in case
Slumbara: Sigurd is already dead so he won't mind
Slumbara: and this way you can't run off on us while we discuss
Echo drops to the ground.
Volmalric spreads an absorbant powder between the bleeding out corpse and the door to make sure the blood doesn't reach the salt line
Echo: Well, good luck friends.
Sigurd gasps and gurgles.
Sigurd: I've had better days.
Sigurd gets large black "X"s over eyes, like in Webcomic fatality scenes.
Meltam: Volmalric, I highly suggest that you let this creature go.
Slumbara: It didn't even ask to be let go, it asked to be burned
Meltam: You can't fathom the suffering it has had in this world, nor how these emotions fester and rot our world
Volmalric: I'm worried more about how the emotions have festered within the creature itself
Meltam: It just wants to go home.
Meltam: It's kind was bound here long long ago
Volmalric: I imagine it was
Volmalric: What do you know about it?
Meltam: If only people realized there were oconsequences to dealing with things beyond their understanding!
Slumbara ties a rope to an arrow and takes out his bow
Slumbara: How about a compromise. Slumbara will retrieve book with arrow and rope, without crossing the salt line
Slumbara: Volmalric can blow up the room
Slumbara: Everyone is happy
Meltam: None of us can touch the book
FYI - The torch that Slumbara threw a while ago is still burning, and you can smell the burning feathers and skins from the dessicated corpse. It is smoldering while you are chatting away.
Slumbara: I will not touch the book, I will shoot the book
Meltam: No physical contact of any kind.
CNN iReport: Brutal Kushite kills helpless book!
Slumbara: Now YOU sound like a mitran
Slumbara: why not?
Slumbara: We came here to get the book
Tack (Meltam): 'Mostly Harmless Grimoire of Hell'
Tack (Meltam): 'Mostly Peaceful Spells/
Meltam: Slumbara - we will get the treasure, no doubts of that
Meltam: You don't want the book for the book
Meltam: Volmalric - That which you called Echo was called here against its will an eternity ago. It's offspring tried to save it, but ended up fleeing after waves of those guards outside interfered.
Volmalric: Sounds like quite the tragedy
Volmalric: So, tell me
Meltam: Now, if you will give me a few moments to put my mind at ease here, we can dispose of the book to prevent any more interdimensional abuctions of Bird-Gods.
Meltam: Yes Volmalric ?
Volmalric: What's stopping this "echo" from going back for the other Northman?
Slumbara: Slumbara can go get him while you two bicker
Meltam: Echo only wanted to get past that door.
Volmalric: Only wants
Slumbara heads off to retrieve Asgrim and return
Meltam: Mortal logic doesn't apply.
Meltam: Anyway....
Volmalric: I do not think the dead ghost is still dead
Volmalric: Or, is dead for good
Volmalric: Death did not stop it once, is my point!
Meltam used a Fortune point to restore their Resolve to max.
Volmalric: I don't like the smell of whatever is burning in there, it was left there for a reason
Meltam: It was caught away from its body.
Meltam: It should be OK now.
Volmalric: Caught away from its body?
Meltam: Yes. Those wards were impenetrable to it
Volmalric: For what purpose, as a guardian?
Slumbara rolls an Athletics test:
Target: 14 Focus: 3 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 2 Momentum: 1 [1d20.11+1d20.14 = 25]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Meltam: That's why it took Sigurd. It could not actually open the door.
Volmalric: Should we stop this thing from burning?
Meltam: It's spirit was trapped, wailing, for an incomprehensible amount of time
Meltam: just for release
Volmalric pulls out his alchemy gear and begins making a concoction
Volmalric: It's incapable of passing the wards and the salt
Volmalric: I'm concerned with whatever else is in that room, if anything
Meltam: Well stop! Let it get to the body and vamoose!
Volmalric: Get what to the body?
Meltam: the one on fire
Volmalric lobs something towards the body
Volmalric rolls an Alchemy test:
Target: 13 Focus: 3 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 0 Momentum: 0 [2d20.17 = 34]

You succeeded and generated momentum!
Volmalric lobs a container in as Slumbara returns, the powder poofing out and putting the torch on the corpse out for now
Slumbara: awwww, I was hoping that was a fire bomb
Meltam 's Eyes begin to bleed a bit as he chants an incantation.
Slumbara: That isn't troubling at all
Slumbara: Do you know what he is doing?
Slumbara points to Meltam
Meltam: Rhiveth; here is the book, only for thee to touch and have. May it never tempt another again.
Slumbara: Should I cut out his tongue and eyes?
Volmalric: Meltam! Nothing that makes your eyes bleed is healthy for you!
Volmalric: Stop that!
Meltam floats to about six inches off the ground and begins glowing a vibrant blue color. The walls of the corridor, laced with blue-steel, reflect and amplify the glow until it becomes difficult to see him in the glow.
Slumbara eats popcorn
Meltam settles back to ground and his body is now trimmed in a blue-white light. His eyes open and they are glowing a brilliant yellow.
Slumbara: He is turning into an anime character
Then the glow violently rips away from him and steps into its own physical form, modifying shape to fit that of Rhiveth, as you remember her from her tomb.
Meltam drops to the ground in a heap and gasps for air like a fish thrown on the deck of a trawler.
Rhiveth exhales heavily.
Rhiveth: That is harder than I remember.
Volmalric: Hello, from one tomb to another
Rhiveth: Hello Volmalric. It has been long as long is counted by the living, Skittles keeps me notified of the passing of days.. I see the three of you are.... mostly intact.
