Gyoshen Daisuke gets everyone back together under the cherry blossom tree just as a short, dark-skinned man with a walking stick and a bokken arrives. The new arrival looks at everyone cautiously.
Gyoshen Daisuke: I believe an associate of mine, Sanmiiru, gave you a task. It seems you have been rather remiss in getting it done.
Gyoshen Daisuke: You have two goals now, the first is more pressing. You need to find Issiko's oni-infested husband and slay him before he can cause further harm. After that, you need to track down the reagents that Sanmiiru directed you to acquire and use them to seal the breaches between Anoyo and Konoyo. Failure to do so means that more creatures like him will enter the world.
Gyoshen Daisuke pauses.
Gyoshen Daisuke: "Him" being Issiko's husband, not Sanmiiru. In case any of you are not following along.

Kazuki: Sounds good enough to me.
Gyoshen Daisuke: Yes, but I am not sure if perhaps the repeated blunt blows to Daichi or Kazuki slowed down their mental faculties.

Daichi: It takes more than that to kill me
Gyoshen Daisuke: After those two tasks are done, we can get back to other tasks.

The group travels along for the rest of the day without any serious incident. Yama does not speak unless someone directly addresses him. He sniffs at the wind and licks the back of his right hand on a semi-regular basis though.

Akemi cleans up after dinner, undoes her hair, unrolls her sleeping blanket, and goes to sleep.

Ikuko goes to sleep.
During the night, Kazuki evidently tries to "frisk" Ikuko for something and does it in such a loud and obvious manner that Daichi can only assume Kazuki is trying to rape her.

Akemi curls up next to Hida and goes back to sleep.

The rest of the night passes uneventfully.
The next morning as Akemi gets everything ready to prepare breakfast, Yama walks into camp with a collection of roots and vegetables.
Yama: Here, these fresh.
Yama tosses them to Akemi, then stares off towards the sun rise and chews thoughtfully on some roots.
Akemi: Wow, nice. Thanks.
Akemi cooks up some stew and hands some out to everyone.
Akemi: No meat Yama, you can have some.
Yama: Okay.
Yama drinks it in one gulp from the bowl.
Akemi: Err...okay.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Figures. As soon as Hida gets a woman, Brad makes someone else Hida has to keep his eye on

Feneril (Ikuko): if Akemi is a chubby chaser then she is in trouble around Taiki
TADM: Yeah, Yama is probably too skinny for Akemi's tastes.

Yama: We hide in there for a few.
Yama heads into the cave.

Yama: You can stay out and find out.
Akemi waits for direction from Hida, since she is not sure if she wants to stay outside or go in a dark cave with a creepy guy.
Kazuki does not stay to find out
Kazuki: A few minutes? Hours?
Daichi follows Yama and leads Ikuko into the cave.

Daichi: Very
Kazemi (Kazuki): do we have lights?

Ikuko looks frightened.
The cave is only about 8 feet deep and somewhat narrow. You do not have lights unless someone makes one.
Yama squats down in the shadows by the entrance and waits.
Sensei: Anyone not going into the cave?
Kazuki is already in there
Daichi: Worry not, my eyes have much better acclimated to the dark now
Ikuko seems comforted.
Kazuki: That's because you're possessed by a rage-mask

A pair of seven foot tall raven-headed creatures land near the cave entrance and look around the area. Their feathers are black and molting. The revolting stench of sulfur and burning corpses fills the air.
Tengu: Taberu said they might come this way...
Tengu #2: I smell humans, they must be around here.
Tengu: Then we take wing and wait for them to move.
Tengu glances around again, then takes off.
Tengu #2 heads off after the first one.
Yama: Now we wait. Maybe fifteen minutes.
Akemi: Those guys are stinky.
Ikuko: Indeed, they smell worse than those pirate ships
Daichi: I didn't smell anything
Ikuko: You must have a cold
Ikuko: Akemi should make you some chicken broth later, it will clear that right up
Hida Sashimi: Or no nose
Kazuki: ragemask
Sensei: Any doing anything during the 15 minute wait?
Feneril (Daichi): not I
Nick (Hida Sashimi): nope
Sensei: Time passes.
Yama: Wait here, I go check.
Yama slips outside.
Yama comes back about 2 minutes later.
Yama: Okay, we go now.
Yama resumes walking down the path.
Kazuki: How do you know when they're coming?
Daichi leads Ikuko after Yama
Yama: They smell.
Akemi: I agree.
Hida Sashimi follows with Akemi

The rest of the day passes, you are stopped four more times by the black winged, death smelling, Tengu.
Yama: We sleep in cave tonight, need to mask scent so you not killed in sleep.
Ikuko: I bow to your wisdom, of course
Akemi: I'm good with that plan.
Akemi: Any ideas?
Yama shrugs.
Ikuko: Speaking of scent, we could all use a bath
Yama: You figure out. I go watch for them.
Yama leaves the cave he puts you all in and heads out into the darkness.
Akemi snuggles next to Hida.
Akemi: That man is a bit freaky.
Hida Sashimi: Yes he is
Hida Sashimi whispers "But so can you, when you want to be" into her ear
Kazuki coughs
Akemi playfully slaps Hida.
Akemi: Let's see, I don't want to use rosemary tonight when I cook....

Kazuki: Well, we can cover the scent with pine-needles if that may work. We would want things that are already in the area

TADM: Those also.
Sensei: So, creative plan to mask your scents?
Daichi: If we boil the pine in water and then bathe in it it will do a much better job
Daichi: We will need many pots of water
Daichi: There is a pond nearby
Kazuki: Well, let's get to work

The group manages to mask their scent as a group of a pine trees.

Yama arrives the next morning with a skewer of Tetsun Burrowers. They are a rare type of spider that is about 1 foot in diameter and when boiled in their carapace are considered quite a rare and expensive delicacy.
Yama: Here, these tasty.
Ikuko: what is it?
Akemi: Wow, and that is like 75 bu worth of them.
Kazuki: Woah, that's expensive
Kazuki: Where did you find those?
Akemi: Tetsun Burrowers, Ikuko, like we had at the Gyoshen Estate for special festivals.
Ikuko: Oh goodie!
Ikuko: What a pleasant surprise
Akemi looks at Hida.
Akemi: Have you ever had these? They are delicious.
Ikuko: They are indeed
Akemi: Just, uh, only eat the body, the neck and head are really poisonous.
Kazuki: What kind of poisonous are we talking about?
Hida Sashimi: Good to know
Ikuko: The kind that kills you
Yama: Yeah, good for arrows and other pointy things, lose potency quickly though.
Yama: Maybe only good for today.
Yama shrugs.
Yama: Could boil it down, make paste, that keeps for a week.
Ikuko: There is a reason that Tetsun chefs are experts on poison
Yama sits outside the cave and licks the back of his left hand.
Ikuko: many of the delicacies of our land are toxic if prepared incorrectly
Akemi works diligently on preparing the Burrowers.
Akemi boils them up and hands one to each person.
Akemi: Now, bite the back and then work your way forward. Oh, and if your tongue goes numb, stop eating immediately.
Daichi: That is good advice, no matter what you are eating
Akemi demonstrates while chewing away and smiling at how tasty the burrowers are.
Ikuko eats her burrower completely oblivious to the fact that it is a terrifying spider-monster.
Kazemi (Kazuki): she doesn't know
Kazuki follows suit
Hida Sashimi savors its deliciousness
After an incredibly delicious and nutritious breakfast, Yama directs the group further into the mountains. By afternoon you are above the tree-line and the temperature is significantly lower. The air is getting thin.
Sensei: Vigor checks for all involved.

After an hour of walking, Daichi is tired and feeling a bit dizzy.
Daichi: I fear my wounds may be catching up to me...
Yama looks at Daichi.

Yama: We be at top of pass late afternoon, get lower by nightfall.
Kazuki: Er, won't the Tengu be able to find us quickly like this?
Daichi: Its hard to fly in thin air

The group makes it the entire day without being viciously killed by hostile Tengu. That night Yama has you resting in a small copse of trees just below the treeline. It is still really cold here.
Akemi makes a fire and curls up next to it.

Yama chews on his right hand knuckles for a few minutes, then licks the back of his hands.
Akemi: Well, anyway, here's some soup to warm us all up.
Sensei: Any TPK inducing nightly activities?
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Nope
The next day is bright and sunny, until you descend into the mountain pass that leads to the estate that Issiko called home.
By mid-day the air is chill and the shadows seem unnaturally long. The silence of the forest around you and the few abandoned farmsteads you have found begin to seem normal.
Akemi: This place was nothing like this last time we were here.
Akemi: Where have all the people gone?
Kazuki: Tengu, I suspect
Yama: Some questions should not be answered.
Ikuko: Or Taiki just killed them
Kazuki: Who are probably serving Taiki
Ikuko: or ate them
Yama shrugs.
Kazuki: or both
Yama: But some have to answer them anyway.
Ikuko: What a waste, he destroyed his own production base
Ikuko: That is no way to run a house
Kazuki: So, any idea on how to kill The Gluttonous?
Ikuko: starvation not an option?
By late afternoon, you have reached the wall that marks the entrance to the estate. There is no sign of anyone or any living thing.
Kazuki: Think of how long he could last!
Ikuko: I am afraid that I am not knowledgable about killing Oni
Ikuko: I never thought I would say this
Ikuko: but I wish Kuutai were here...
Kazuki: I've been saying that since day 1
Daichi: But you are a sick little toad
The estate is in a thick forest, the wall surrounding it is about 10' high and extends as far as you can see in both directions. There is a gate here which is wide open. No sign of people or animals are within, although you can see several buildings and what looks like a stable from the front entrance. The main hall is about a quarter mile inside, with what had once been nice gardens but are now overgrown and weed infested. The main building is about three stories in height and looks impressive in its construction. The kind of building a wealthy Tetsun lord would have at his "wilderness retreat."
Yama stops and it looks like he is touching an invisible wall where the gates should be.
Yama: Me wait here.
Yama sits down by the gate.
Hida Sashimi: You're not joining us?
Yama nods negatively.
Daichi draws his Katana
Daichi: I will lead the way.
Daichi heads through the gate
Ikuko follows Daichi
Akemi: I'm not feeling well either. I need to rest.
Akemi sits down next to Yama.
Kazuki: Daichi, are you even OK?
Kazuki: We really should rest before trying to kill this guy
Daichi: You may be right
Hida Sashimi: May I see your hairpin, darling?
Akemi: Sure thing.
Akemi hands her hair piece to Hida.
Yama looks at the group and sighs.
Kazuki: Yama, I don't suppose you know any healing magics, do you?
Yama: Oni-lord cannot stay in Konoyo from Anoyo.
Hida Sashimi: Smarts [1d6 = 5]
Yama: Unless Veil is broken completely, they cannot stay if what allows them in is broken.
Yama shrugs.
Yama: Break the link.
Yama sits back against the wall and closes his eyes.
Sensei: So, what's the plan?
Kazemi (Kazuki): Hida, how many wounds do you have?
TADM: Or do you want to stop here so you can collude and come back with a plan next week?
Nick (Hida Sashimi): None :P
Kazemi (Kazuki): I've got one, so we need to rest at least one night to heal a bit (we get a roll this night)
Kazemi (Kazuki): but other than that, I suggest start the invasion next week
Feneril (Daichi): I'm falling asleep at my desk, so next week works for me
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Me too
