Round 6
Dealing cards...
Chiri walks up and smashes her fist into the back of Kuutai's head, driving him to his knees.
Chiri: She thinks you are unworthy of continued life.
Chiri offers Kuutai to the Kappa as tribute.
"Araki" (shaken)
"Araki": Spirit [1d6 = 3]
Kazemi ("Araki"): Well, nevermind
Saigo
Kazemi ("Araki"): I was going to try to save Kuutai, but...
Saigo: Fighting [1d4 = 10]
Sensei: That hits with a raise.
Saigo: Bo damage [2d4 = 13]
Red Kappa thought Kuutai was out for the battle and was clearly not expecting the kneeling onmyouji to smack him with the staff. He staggers backwards, howling as his knees buckle and his legs stop working. He flops to the ground like a giant turtle on his back.
Red Kappa: Spirit [1d6 = 5]
Red Kappa flops around a bit and rolls himself over.
"Obuchi"
Hida: Fighting [1d4 = 2]
Sensei: Hida stabs the hard outer shell with his chopstick, with predictable results.
Round 7
Dealing cards...
Red Kappa: Agility [1d8 = 3]
Red Kappa dives for the railing to escape, and does not do a very good job.
"Araki" (shaken)
"Araki": Spirit [1d6 = 4]
"Obuchi"
Kazemi ("Araki"): -1 wound
Hida: Fighting [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 3]
Saigo
Saigo Aiming for where the back of the neck joins with the shell.
Saigo: Fighting (Called Shot - Head -4) [1d4-4 = -1]
Chiri: Agility {+2 Shadow Arts, +2 Acrobat} [1d6+4 = 12]
Red Kappa: Agility [1d6 = 4]
Chiri snaps out her long black sleeves, which coil and wrap around the Kappa's arms and keep it pinned in place.
Chiri: She thinks you are all worthless in combat. She is looking forward to when you are all beaten to death by a random farmer when Kazuki is caught urinating in the man's fields.
Round 8
Dealing cards...
Chiri holds action.
"Obuchi"
Hida: Fighting [1d4 = 2]
Hida: Hida stabs the Red Kappa in the toe, for no damage.
Chiri sighs.
Chiri: At a minimum, put your ponderous, slovenly weight into your strikes.
"Araki" (shaken)
"Araki": Spirit (Wound Penalty -1) [1d6-1 = 3]
Kazemi ("Araki"): nothing
Red Kappa: Fighting [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 2]
Red Kappa attacks Chiri.
Red Kappa swings and misses.
Saigo
Saigo: Fighting [1d6 = 16]
Saigo: Bo damage [3d4 = 10]
Sensei: Saigo smashes the Celestial Staff into the creature's head and there is a resounding crack. The creature drops to the ground lifeless.
"Araki": Thank you static modifiers
Saigo: Oi.
Saigo bows to Chiri
Captain Manabu: Victory!
Captain Manabu leads his men over to help you defeat the Red Kappa, only to find that it is dead.
Captain Manabu: Wow!
Captain Manabu: You definitely deserve to get your money back.
Saigo: Well that is good to know. How fare your crew?
Captain Manabu: We did well, only Greens attacked the other part of the ship.
Captain Manabu saws the head off the Red Kappa and puts it on a pole on the front of the ship.
Captain Manabu: Let all know that the vicious Red Kappa was slain!
TADM: Reputation Gained.
Saigo: Deliciously grotesque.
"Araki": Spirit (Wound Penalty -1) [1d6-1 = 9]
Saigo: It was nothing - we do this for all of Konoyo.
Captain Manabu lets you choose how to dispose of the bodies as you will, aside from the head trophy.
Akemi runs out and hugs Hida.
"Araki": We should take a shell
Saigo Directs Hida to the body of the Red Kappa
Akemi takes him below for "medical treatment."
Chiri offers Kazuki some herbs.
Saigo: Alright, Araki-san, hack and slash time?
Chiri: She thinks these will make you feel better.
"Araki": Smarts (Wound Penalty -1) [1d6-1 = 4]
"Araki": Thanks
"Araki": Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 7]
Chiri: Or perhaps put you out of her misery, whichever it is.
"Araki": 404 {-2 Untrained} [1d6-2 = 3]
"Araki": Eh, they look safe to me
Sensei: They look medically delicious.
Sensei: They even have little green sugary clovers in them.
Kazemi ("Araki"): lol I was going to say
Saigo: Well.
"Araki": Vigor [1d6 = 4]
Sensei: Kazuki spends most of the afternoon hurling his guts over the side of the barge. But by nightfall he feels awesome.
Chiri snickers.
"Araki": Thanks, Chiri! I'm not wounded anymore!
Captain Manabu: Ah yes, first time battle sometimes does that to people.
Captain Manabu claps Kazuki on the back while he is vomiting and makes it even worse for about 30 minutes.
Saigo: Good Captain Manabu, do you have some...cutlery I could borrow?
Captain Manabu: Certainly!
Captain Manabu hands Kuutai some "kappa dissection gear"
Saigo: NoSkill [1d6 = 5]
Saigo Begins learning about Kappa Anatomy, the proper way.
"Araki": Spirit [1d6 = 4]
"Araki": Notice {+2 Alertness} [Critical failure!] [1d6+2 = 3]
Chiri sings a song about how Captain Manabu and his sailors saved three hapless and useless travelers from a band of drunken and ineffectual Kappa that any true Kesshi could have slain easily without breaking a sweat.
"Araki" does not notice what Saigo's doing, so he does not need to hurl again
The barge arrives in Kara. Akemi and Hida head off in search of good restaurants. Daichi takes Ikuko to a nice inn where she can further recuperate.
Magistrate Buzen runs up to the barge.
Magistrate Buzen: Oh my!
Magistrate Buzen: You have slain the dread Red Kappa!
"Araki": Are red kappa rare?
Magistrate Buzen gestures for a servant to run back to the magistrate's office for the reward.
Magistrate Buzen: Yes, they are very rare! And this one had been attacking shipping on the lake for almost two months!
Magistrate Buzen bows respectfully to Kuutai, Kazuki, and Captain Manabu.
Magistrate Buzen: Might I know the names of the slayers, as they will be celebrated throughout Kara?
Saigo: My Name is Kuutai, Slayer of Kappa.
Magistrate Buzen: Ah!
Magistrate Buzen: It is a true honor to meet you!
Magistrate Buzen: Once my servant returns and you have the reward, I will be greatly honored if you stay at my estate while you are in Kara.
Kuutai: Reward? I was not aware of one.
Magistrate Buzen: I know of many nice restuarants, and even a few bathhouses that might be of interest to you as well.
Magistrate Buzen looks genuinely grateful that the Red Kappa scourge is gone.
Magistrate Buzen: Yes, there is a reward posted by the Regent himself for the destruction of the Red Kappa who was threatening shipping.
Kuutai: I see...well I am happy to see your region free of the menace, and wish you continued prosperity in these blessed plains.
Kazemi ("Araki"): WTF IF WE COULD HAVE GOTTEN THE SHELLS FROM THAT FIRST ENCOUNTER WE WOULD'VE HAD MASSIVE PROFIT BY NOW
Magistrate Buzen takes small chest from servant.
Magistrate Buzen hands one to Kuutai, Kazuki, and Hida (retroactively before he got off the boat).
Kuutai Bows deeply.
Kuutai: I am not truly worthy to accept this for such a small service.
Magistrate Buzen: No, you must accept! The Regent insists!
Magistrate Buzen: In fact, I shall mention your name specifically in my report!
Kuutai accepts the present.
Kuutai: Notice [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 2]
Kuutai: Spellcasting [1d6 = 11]
Quorteth (Kuutai): Ooh wot's dis?
"Araki": Thank you
"Araki" bows
"Araki": Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 7]
Kuutai finds 5 Ingots marked with the Provincial Dragon inside the chest.
TADM: AKA - 1 pound of gold worth 500bu.
Kuutai: Your generosity and kindness is without bounds, Magistrate. If you are ever in need of something, do not hestiate to ask, but I do it for the good of the people.
Magistrate Buzen: I am honored to know such heroes exist.
Kuutai: Also, of course, the Regent as well.
"Araki": Common Knowledge [1d6 = 8]
Kazemi ("Araki"): who is the regent?
Magistrate Buzen leaves to report to the Regent, a servant remains behind to escort you to the Magistrate's estate or wherever else you want to go.
Sensei: Regent Ennichi
Kazemi ("Araki"): I'll give my name as Araki. My new plan is to build a proper name for myself before trying to expose the imposter Kazuki
Sensei: He is a wildly popular man, and reported to be an amazing general, bureaucrat, and leader. The folk of Sorimizu love this guy, he is second in power to the Lord General, and steadfastly loyal to the Lord General and the people of Sorimizu.
Sensei: Notice check for Kazuki.
"Araki": Notice {+2 Alertness} [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6+2 = 6]
Servant: Would you like me to escort you to the Magistrate's Estate?
Servant: Or is there somewhere else that you would like to go?
"Araki": Are there any places of interest in town?
Servant: Oh yes, we have many fine theatres, bathhouses, restaurants, factories, metal works, shrines, and historical fortifications.
"Araki": Smarts [1d6 = 7]
Sensei: Persuasion {+2 Acting} [1d6+2 = 13]
Kazemi ("Araki"): bastard
Chiri walks off the barge.
Chiri bows to Kuutai and Kazuki.
"Araki": Do you have a library?
Chiri: Oh, thank you great heroes for your valiant battle against the Red Kappa of DOOM! Thank you for saving an unworthy life.
Chiri snickers.
Servant bites lip, it looks like he wants to laugh.
Servant: Yes, we have a library here.
Servant: It is not far from the Regent's Palace.
Kuutai: A Library!?
"Araki": Hm, Chiri did just as much as the rest of us against the Kappa. Kuutai, Chiri, before we go to the library let's go celebrate with some fine sake!
Kuutai: Um...
"Araki": You can handle it!
Kuutai: Chiri did the most of all of us.
Kuutai glares at Araki
"Araki" shrugs
Chiri spends 250bu on an exceptional silk kimono.
"Araki": I got stuck in that net at the end
Kuutai: Bling Bling!
Kuutai: Sure.
Kuutai: Let us enjoy fine spirits.
Chiri stops mid-stride.
Chiri: Sake?
"Araki": Best in town!
Kuutai: Hot or Cold?
"Araki": Yes
Kuutai: That is the quesiton!
"Araki": It is not a question of either or, but rather a question of which one first
Servant: Ah! I shall be happy to take you to a fine inn which has excellent sake. It is made in the little village of Chiisai, near Sekisho. The village is quite little from what I understand.
"Araki": It is
Kuutai: Thank you so much, we would be blind here without your assistance. Lead on.
Servant leads you to the Roaring Dragon Inn.
Servant: Attention Everyone! These are the great kesshi who defeated the Red Kappa!
Servant rouses the crowd into a mighty cheer.
Servant has the best table in the house given to Kuutai, Kazuki, and Chiri.
Kuutai: Yay! We're Famous!
Waitress: Hello honorable sirs!
Waitress bows.
Waitress: And your....
Waitress looks at Chiri, tries to decide what to call her.
Waitress: friend?
Kuutai: Overlord.
"Araki": Comrade!
Chiri: She is their voice of reason.
Waitress: Ah, so you are married to that one?
Waitress points to Kuutai.
Chiri: Only in his fantasies.
Kazemi ("Araki"): Why does my voice of reason have such a suicidal bend on it?
TADM: It hates you. Or it is trying to make you unreasonable, one of the two.
Kuutai: Well...
Kuutai: Could...we get some cold Sake?
Waitress: Absolutely sirs!
Waitress comes back with a bottle of Sake, three small saucers, a variety of appetizers, and pours your drinks for you.
Servant tells Waitress to apply the bill to Magistrate Buzen's tab.
Kuutai: So....who is for starting our own pest control bussiness?
Kuutai: Seems...exploitable?
Servant: I shall return in a while, please enjoy yourselves.
Servant bows and departs.
"Araki": I don't know if "exploitable" is the right word
"Araki": I mean, we get pretty beat up each time we go up against those things
Chiri: This reminds her of a time when the people of the village believed that the monster-slayers had to be sacrificed to the Seven Dark Oni in order to keep the village safe, even though the monster-slayers had already killed the oni threatening the vilage.
Chiri drinks some sake.
Chiri: She thinks this is oishi!
Kuutai: Hrm...that....is...interesting.
Chiri tries some spicy pickles.
Kuutai: But...this is Sorimizu. They hate that sort of sacrfice.
Chiri: True.
Waitress pours more sake for Chiri.
Sensei: Okay...so now what?
Quorteth (Kuutai): Well we cant start much until we are complete again....unless we want to start trouble for them....heh heh heh....
Kazemi ("Araki"): Eh, I was hoping to kinda just hang out for a while, show appreciation to Chiri, and hopefully help solidify our "We're good people!" vibe
Kuutai Wonders how much his Kappa Shell Weighs, and if he should seek storage for it.
Sensei: Okay, how about these two questions: (1) How much sake are you drinking? (2) Are you trying to keep up with Chiri?
Kazemi ("Araki"): Does Acrobat add to my parry with Light armor?
Kuutai will take the Chiri Challenge(TM)
TADM: As long as you have no encumbrance penalty, the Parry bonus is valid.
"Araki": Smarts [1d6 = 3]
"Araki" takes the Chiri Challenge!
Sensei: The Red Kappa shell weighs 45 pounds.
Kazemi ("Araki"): that is beyond my weight limit
Sensei: Assuming you have the entire thing.
Kazemi ("Araki"): Hida has the shell right now
TADM: I see, so Hida is using the Kappa Shell for a soup bowl? Got it.
TADM: Turtle Soup!
Kazemi ("Araki"): He is instructed not to eat it
Kazemi ("Araki"): he can eat the rest of the kappa, but not the shell
Kuutai UNLEASH THE SAKE!
Chiri downs sake saucer (TM) #4.
Waitress: My, she can put it away.
Chiri has Liquid Courage Edge from Savage Worlds Deluxe.
"Araki" is going to try to drink 3 fewer drinks than Chiri
Kuutai attempts to keep pace with chiri.
Kuutai: Vigor [1d6 = 3]
"Araki": Vigor [1d6 = 3]
Sensei: Okay, round 1 - Vigor!
Kazemi ("Araki"): WOO
Sensei: Kazuki and Kuutai pass out.
Kazemi ("Araki"): derp
Quorteth (Kuutai): Aww. the heroes are all tuckered out!
Sensei: It is night time when they wake up. They are in a nice, airy, room and lying on a bed with actual pillows and sheets. (Well, next to each other, but you get to keep all your clothes.)
Chiri is sitting nearby, staring out into the night and drinking straight from a sake bottle.
Kuutai: Well that's quite a change.
"Araki": Why does my head hurt?
"Araki": Did I get hit, where am I?
Kuutai: Hey, can I have some? The best way to avoid this hangover is to never stop. =)
Chiri: Yes, the Magistrate's servants returned, I told them you had not slept since fighting the Kappa and needed some rest. So they brought you here. I did some shopping and then came to check on you.
TADM: NOTE: No typos in previous sentence.
"Araki": Oh, thank you
Chiri drinks about half a bottle of sake, sets it on the table next to the other 7 empty ones.
"Araki": You seem more...coherent?
"Araki": Isn't that a bit opposite from what normally happens after drinking?
"Araki" holds his head in an attempt to stop the throbbing
Chiri: Perhaps.
Chiri: I do have some small urge to hit my tuning fork on the table and see what happens now that you are both awake.
"Araki": Is that a special tuning fork?
Chiri laughs - but it is not her normal - nails on chalkboard - pure evil laugh. This is the laugh of a young woman who is happy and carefree.
Chiri: It keeps my instruments tuned.
Kuutai: in vino veritas.
Chiri: In Sake Veritas.
Kuutai: I see I see....
Kuutai: Good to know.
"Araki": I don't speak magic, what does that mean?
Chiri looks at Kuutai.
Kuutai: Notice [1d10 = 2]
"Araki": Notice {+2 Alertness} [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6+2 = 6]
Chiri: I spoke with Kazuko. She wants you to hold the Widowmaker, on two conditions.
Chiri: 1 - That you never try to use it.
Chiri: 2 - That you stab Kazuki with it if he ever tries to take it from you.
Chiri points at the Widowmaker sitting in the corner, next to the Celestial Staff.
Kuutai Is shocked.
Chiri: Oh, and I get to kill him if he takes it from you and you don't notice.
Kuutai: Wait, how.....did you speak with her, unless she and the sword are one?
Chiri shrugs.
"Araki": I learned my lesson lasst time
"Araki": That was an unnecessary request
Chiri: I am relatively certain that someone like Kazuko does not let discorporation stop her efforts. She can be found within the Veeru, if you know where to look.
Kuutai: I see.
Kuutai: Very well then, I had suspected she meant her words.
Chiri: Better for you to get it now, than in the morning.
Chiri finishes off sake bottle number 8, walks over to the balcony and looks out into the starry sky.
Chiri: I have work to attend to, do you have any questions before I go?
Kuutai bows deeply and holds it before both Chiri and the Widowmaker before collecting it.
Kuutai: Yes...Princess.
Kuutai: Do you have anything to say for your origins?
Chiri looks at Kuutai.
Kuutai: By what trickery have you avoided the ravages of time?
A sad smile crosses her face.
Chiri: Once, my sister Tenrai and I were destined to rule the Sitting Court of Rin within the Emperor's Orchard.
Chiri: The world was a happier, better place then, although it was decaying and dying if you knew where to look.
Chiri ponders Kuutai's second question.
Chiri: Trickery?
"Araki": My kind of trickery
Chiri: No, I paid a heavy price, a price that extracts more from me every day.
Chiri: I would much rather grow old and die than be what I have become.
Kuutai: ....Which is?
"Araki" snaps his fingers
Chiri looks at Kazuki.
Chiri: What
"Araki": Ah, I also have a question. Back in that village, before we went to get the black tar. The our host's daughter vanished and nobody could remember her existance except for us. Botan has also vanished, seemingly with nobody else remembering anything about him. Do you know what happened to them?
Chiri: Botan? The child you know as Botan never existed. Although the creature that played the part will undoubtedly find you again when he has need of you.
Chiri taps lips in thought.
"Araki": Is the same true of the farmer's girl?
Kuutai: Yes...sort of what I was intending to ask more directly. Botan is an assumed name, and his true identity is of a long passed hero.....I suspect Otomo.
Chiri: Yes, albeit a much different, and I would say, more benevolent person than Botan.
TADM: (that is to Kazuki's question)
Chiri: Botan is definitely an assumed name, but his true identity is not one you would find in any history book.
Kuutai: Ah. Then I was dead wrong. Ah well.
"Araki": He's not an Oni, is he?
Chiri: I am not even sure who he is...or if he even knows any longer.
Chiri eyes narrow and blink a couple times.
Kuutai: Ikusans wanted him badly enough...he could be anything. They can put all types to work...or 'use'
Chiri: He is not an oni. There is only one oni walking in Konoyo you need fear.
Chiri grips the edge of the railing.
"Araki": Is that the one that was summoned on my name?
Chiri: And SHE HATES YOU.
"Araki" flinches
Chiri flings herself over the side of the balcony.
"Araki": WAH
"Araki": Yikes
"Araki": I am going to need to find a way of fixing that
"Araki": Kn(Lore & Legends) {+1 Defining Interest} [1d4+1 = 11]
Kuutai stands up in a pontificationg posture, and holds up one finger, as if in lecture.
Kuutai: And this, kids, is why we do not bargain with dark lords.
Kuutai: Notice [1d6 = 4]
Kuutai Runs as fast as he can, to check on Chiri, etc.
Sensei: There is no Chiri visible with that Notice check.
"Araki": Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 5]
Kazemi ("Araki"): what about THAT notice check?
Sensei: There is no Chiri visible with that Notice check.
Kuutai turns his blinkers on
Kuutai: Spellcasting [1d10 = 8]
Sensei: There is no Chiri visible with that Notice check.
Kazemi ("Araki"): That was spellcasting
Kuutai: Notice [1d10 = 4]
Sensei: There is no Chiri visible with that Notice check.
Kazemi ("Araki"): wtf, Kuutai
"Araki": Stealth [1d8 = 2]
"Araki": Ugh, my head hurts
Kuutai: Well..that is terrible.
Kuutai: We are plus one 'way too good for us' weapon
Kuutai: But minus one person who may actually know a thing or two
Sensei: The next morning....

Chat log started at 4.12.2011 / 17:22:07

Savage Worlds Ruleset for Fantasy Grounds II
(c) 2009 Pinnacle Entertainment Group.
TADM: Okay, here's the story - since three of you showed up, we will game. But we are not going to start for a bit.
Kazemi ("Araki"): OK, that's fine
Nick ("Obuchi"): ok. will let me finish football :)
Kazemi ("Araki"): nah, I'd rather postpone the start
TADM: Additionally, Mike and Dave might have noticed from the chat logs posted that I slightly modified the end of last week's session. This was intentional because where we left off provided no room for miniquests, and since we originally were not going to game for two weeks, I wanted lots of opportunity for miniquests.
TADM: Also, Nick, yes, the amount of money Hida has is correct. Also, you need to let me know if you used your real name for the magistrate's office.
"Obuchi" hangs out with Akemi, greatly enjoying her company
"Obuchi" buys Akemi a ___, the equivalent to a promise or engagement ring here, and a nice kimono
"Araki": Hey, Kuutai, want to hang out at the library?
Kuutai: Library you say?
Kuutai: Lets book it!
"Araki": word
Kuutai follows Araki to the Library
Kuutai: Notice [1d6 = 11]
Sensei: Okay, Kuutai and Kazuki make it to the library without being killed
Kuutai: So...may I ask the....or inquire about your sudden thrist of knowledge, Araki?
"Araki": UT Investigation {-2 Untrained} [1d4-2 = 1]
TADM: I'd assume he is planning on dying after being eaten by a oni-no-bookworm.
"Araki": I dont' have a d10 in Smarts, I don't understand half of the weird stuff we've seen
Kazemi ("Araki"): that's why I brought Kuutai. He's more delicious
Kazemi ("Araki"): I'm just a White Castle Slider. Kuutai is a premium burger
Quorteth (Kuutai): 0_0. Interesting way to phrase it.
Quorteth (Kuutai): Wipe Castle.
"Araki": UT Investigation {-2 Untrained} [1d4-2 = 1]
Sensei: Okay, while at the library....what are you doing?
"Araki": UT Investigation {-2 Untrained} [1d6-2 = 3]
Kuutai: Tell me, what are you looking for here?
Kuutai: Certainly, we have past greater resivoirs of knowledge in our journey!
"Araki" browses around for books about the supernatural, legends about the Transformation, history records from the time, books about plants, books about animals, Beating Void Mages for Dummies, etc
"Araki": Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 7]
"Araki" also keeps an eye out for crickets, people he knows, and other oddities
Kuutai: HRM....
Kuutai: Your sudden burst of curosity has me...curious.
Kuutai: Smarts [1d10 = 6]
TADM: All right...let's get this party officially started.
Hida Sashimi: Notice [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 4]
Sensei: So, Hida is shopping with Akemi, generally having a good time and they are enjoying each other's company.
Sensei: Kuutai and Kazuki are in the library, Kazuki is reading, "Huked on Fonics fer Neen-jah"
Kuutai: Tell me, Araki....Where is your homeland?
Sensei: Daichi and Ikuko are nowhere to be seen.
"Araki": Ikusa Kokoro. I lived there all my life
Kuutai: I see...
"Araki": What about you?
Kuutai: Smarts [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 3]
Kuutai: I have no idea.
"Araki" glances up at Kuutai
Kuutai: I surmise....I am not from lands so blessed by the sun as you.
"Araki": What's the first thing you remember?
Kuutai: Also a good question.
Kuutai: I suppose that is why I have no easy answer for you.
"Araki": How did you know Kazuko?
Hida Sashimi: Persuasion {+1 Etiquette} [1d6+1 = 4]
"Araki" leans in toward Kuutai
Akemi: Look Hida, aren't these beautiful looking ribbons?
Kuutai: We shared many adventures, in far off lands
Hida Sashimi: Indeed they are. Would you like one, Akemi?
Akemi: Oh, they are much too nice for me, but thanks.
"Araki": Why are you trusted to hold onto that sword? Why did Kazuko insinuate that you've been killed by it before? Why are you always so pessimistic?
Hida Sashimi buys her one that matches her new kimono
"Araki": Intimidation [1d4 = 2]
"Araki" is not very intimidating
Kuutai: Pessimistic? Oh by no means...pessimism implies you may not like the way things are headed, or how they may end...
Kuutai: These state of affairs suits me just fine.
"Araki": Ah, OK
Kuutai: Killed by this? Perhaps....interesting.
Kuutai: Notice [1d10 = 13]
"Araki": She said you've used it before. It didn't turn out as well for you as it did for me
Kuutai sizes up Widowmaker....How strong would one have to be to wield it?
TADM: Kuutai predicts a d8.
Kuutai: I am still alive.
Kuutai: How could it have been bad?
"Araki" (whisper): ARE you alive?
"Araki" pokes Kuutai
Kazemi ("Araki"): temperature?
Akemi: Hmm...I don't like this part of town, let's head back to the Magistrate's estate and see what the others are up to.
Akemi: I think Magistrate Buzen said something about having dinner with us tonight to show his appreciation. It gives me a chance to wear this new kimono.
Kuutai: Hrm...another good question. Have you a dagger un-laced with....poisons?
Hida Sashimi: Sounds like a very good idea. Lead the way
Hida Sashimi: Notice [1d6 = 5]
"Araki": Yes
Nick (Hida Sashimi): for signs as to why she doesn't like this part of town
Servant: Excuse me sirs, if you are going to wave weapons around and possibly stab each other, I am going to have to request that you leave the library.
Kuutai: Why? Is this not a place of learning?
"Araki": We are not going to stab each other, do not worry good sir
"Araki": Persuasion (Etiquette) [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 2]
"Araki" is using a benny
"Araki": Persuasion (Etiquette) [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 11]
Kazemi ("Araki"): well fuck
"Araki": We'll leave now
Servant runs to get guards.
"Araki": Agility (Escaping) {+1 Escaping!, +2 Acrobat} [1d10+3 = 11]
Kazemi ("Araki"): what floor are we on?
Sensei: Whichever one you want to be on.
Kazemi ("Araki"): first, plz
"Araki" leaps out the window
Sensei: Okay, you are on the first floor.
"Araki": Stealth {+2 Thief} (+1) [1d10+3 = 5]
Kazemi ("Araki"): lol
TADM: Unfortunately, there is an empty 20' moat around the library, it used to be a fortress.
TADM: HAHAHAHA!
Kazemi ("Araki"): YOU BASTARD
Quorteth (Kuutai): Underwater Ninja Tigers in it?
TADM: Invisible flying underwater ninja tigers!
"Araki": Notice {+2 Alertness} (+1) [1d6+3 = 14]
Sensei: Okay, so Kazuki dives out the window and lands on the ground, executing a beautiful rolling dive to the applause of several people standing nearby.
TADM: (I was joking, there is no moat)
"Araki" bows
"Araki" strolls away as if nothing happened
"Araki": Persuasion (Acting) {+1 Defining Interest} (+1) [1d4+2 = 4]
Kuutai looks stranded in the libary.
Kuutai Attempts to Egress.
Sensei: No one stops Kuutai as he leaves.
TADM: ...once Kuutai and Kazuki are done with their shenanigans...
Servant (to Kazuki and Kuutai): Greetings sirs, Magistrate Buzen has asked that I remind you he is planning dinner tonight. And if you can find your female "companion" she is invited also, although we have had no luck in tracking her down to give her the invitation.
"Araki": Oh, OK. Tell him we'll be there
Servant walks off on other errands.
Kuutai: Hrm....Shall we find more proper vestments for such a gathering?
Kuutai: If we should...be the heroes...we cannot dissapoint, can we?
"Araki": Ah, true
"Araki": Wait...
"Araki": So you're going to get new clothese now?
Kuutai: Um...
Kuutai: We are rich now.
Akemi returns with Hida to the Magistrate's Estate and helps him pick out suitable attire for the evening.
"Araki": What is formal wear like?
Kuutai: True, flaunting weatlth is a past time of these weak, mundane folks......
"Araki": Common Knowledge [1d6 = 4]
Akemi looks at Hida's clothes.
Kazemi ("Araki"): I should know this
Kuutai: But, if we are to win their respects.....
"Araki": Oh, right, I owe you a bit, don't I
Akemi: Some of these are a bit ratty, you should have them cleaned and repaired. Here I can sew these together.
Hida Sashimi: You shouldn't trouble yourself
Akemi: Oh, it's no problem
Kuutai: So....to the outfitters, Araki?
Akemi: You treat me so well.
"Araki": Sure
"Araki": Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 13]
Sensei: Araki's notice check finds a really nice clothing shop with good prices.
Clothing Merchant: Hello sirs!
"Araki": Hello!
Clothing Merchant: This is the finest clothing shop in Kara! I am sure we have something that will "suit" your needs!
"Araki" flinches
Kuutai: Hopefully your wares match your humor, good merchant.
Clothing Merchant: Oh, nothing but the finest!
Clothing Merchant looks both of you over.
Clothing Merchant: You are the heroes who slew the vicious red kappa, aren't you?
Clothing Merchant: Oh my!
Kuutai: Yes.
Clothing Merchant: Thank you for killing the creature! It destroyed one of my silk shipments.
Clothing Merchant bows very deeply.
Kuutai looks over his tattered clothes.
Kuutai points to a bloodstain.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): How much would a new kimono cost Hida? Not a fine one, but an above average one
Clothing Merchant claps hands. A dozen shop employees descend on Kazuki and Kuutai to attend to their every need and get them spectacular looking new kimonos.
Kuutai: Kuutai Would you like a momento? You can have that patch if you cut it out, it was spilled in the heat of battle, from one of those little devils.
"Araki": It is our honor to provide assistance and better Konoyo
Clothing Merchant: Oh, thank you sir!
Kuutai: Is Black still in style these days?
Sensei: A nice kimono for Hida would probably cost about 80bu
Clothing Merchant: Black is ALWAYS in style.
Kuutai: Excellent.
Sensei: How much are you willing to spend on kimonos?
Kazemi ("Araki"): Kuutai, how much do I owe you?
Hida Sashimi has one of the servants buy me a new nice kimono, telling Akemi that I the one she is repairing I'll only wear on special occasions because of all the love and care she's showing it and me
Akemi looks happy as a schoolgirl to be treated so nicely.
Akemi is NOT going to wear a schoolgirl uniform. Don't go there.
Kazemi ("Araki"): ...
Chiri stabs out the eyes of anyone who just went there.
Sensei: OW!
Quorteth (Kuutai): 200 bu for Splendid robes with lots of pockets and things...I.E. useful for the ADVENTURE
Chiri: HAHAHHAA!
TADM: Anyway.
Kazemi ("Araki"): 125bu for a Fine kimono
Clothing Merchant sells Kuutai a great 200bu kimono that matches all his requests...for only 150bu.
Clothing Merchant: Special discount, as you killed that dreaded kappa.
Clothing Merchant sells Kazuki a fine kimono for 100bu.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Guess I should have bought a kimono for myself in person. Oh well
TADM: Your discount was factored in with the price I gave you.
Kuutai: Good sirs, I require something that I would protect me from the fiercest winds atop the highest mountains, but would also pass the scathing judgements of nobles and aristocrats.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Ah
Kuutai: Can you make such a thing?
Clothing Merchant: So, you need multiple outfits?
Clothing Merchant: This is Sorimizu, our fashions are either functional or fashionable, never the two shall meet!
Kuutai: You cannot acheive perfect harmony between beauty and function?
Kazemi ("Araki"): is there any armor in this place?
Clothing Merchant: Such a thing is not feasible here, perhaps if you procured some fine Tahatan silk, we could make it for you. Only their silk meshes function and beauty exquisitely.
Sensei: There is no armor in a kimono/clothing store.
Kuutai: Oh very well.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): brb need food
Kuutai Offers 120 bu for a formal set, and a warm set (for them tengu hunts)
"Araki": That's a good point.
"Araki" goes for a warm set as well
Clothing Merchant sells you appropriate formal and warm clothing.
[w] "Araki" -> Kuutai: I is out of money..
Kuutai: Thank thee so much!
Kuutai bows
Clothing Merchant bows again that such great heroes would visit his lowly store.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): back
Kuutai: Now.....Now we are ready for this dinner.
Sensei: The group gets ready and makes it to dinner without being killed, detained, violently assaulted, robbed, or in other ways inconvenienced.
"Araki": Notice {+2 Alertness} [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6+2 = 6]
Hida Sashimi: Notice [1d6 = 3]
Sensei: The formal dining hall is lavishly prepared with food and decorations. A couple dozen people have gathered to have dinner and meet the kappa slaying heroes.
"Araki": Smarts [1d6 = 5]
Kuutai: Notice [1d10 = 21]
Akemi shows up with Hida, looking amazingly attractive with an elegant kimono, fantastically well done makeup, and perfectly prepared hair.
Hida Sashimi: You look ravashing, my dear
Akemi: Oh, thank you. It is nothing.
Hida Sashimi: It is everything :)
Magistrate Buzen shows up with his wife and daughters in tow.
Sensei: All of them look quite attractive also.
Kazemi ("Araki"): how many daughters are we talking about?
Sensei: 7....
Kazemi ("Araki"): o.O
Kazemi ("Araki"): wait...so how many sons does he have?
Sensei: 0
Magistrate Buzen: But we keep trying!
"Araki": I can tell
Hida Sashimi: Thank you for having us here, Magistrate. It is a pleasure and an honor
Hida Sashimi: Persuasion {+1 Etiquette} [1d6+1 = 6]
Magistrate Buzen: I am honored you could join us. I am sure you have other matters to attend to, being great heroes, but I wanted to show our appreciation. The Regent apologizes that he is not able to meet you in person, but there is some sort of border dispute with Ikusa Kokoro going on that demands his attention.
"Araki": Persuasion (Acting) {+1 Defining Interest} [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6+1 = 6]
"Araki" flinches
Kuutai: Yes...Those Ikusans have never really honored that border....have they?
Hida Sashimi: I am sorry to hear that. But I am sure he is a busy man
Kazemi ("Araki"): better than the alternative...
Magistrate Buzen: Indeed they have not, but such discussions are best for another day, tonight we shall be merry!
Magistrate Buzen claps hands and a group of musicians come out and begin playing.
Sensei: Everyone settles down on cushions to watch the performance while servants bring food and drink around to everyone.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Don't. Let. Chiri. Sing. Unless she is cheery
Magistrate Buzen: Ah...Hida-san, try the sushi! It is fresh from the lake this morning.
Magistrate Buzen gestures to a servant coming out with some fresh food.
Sir Daisuke looks at Kuutai.
Sir Daisuke: Oni-slaying?
Hida Sashimi: Thank you. It looks delicious
Sir Daisuke: Sometimes a few dozen before breakfast.
Sir Daisuke: I would like to hear your stories about kappa slaying.
Sir Daisuke keeps glancing over at Akemi.
Sir Daisuke: Hmm...I know I have seen her somewhere before.
Sir Daisuke: But yes...did you fight the kappa on water or on land?
Kuutai: On a boat.
Akemi hides behind Hida's ponderous bulk.
Kuutai: We wanted to make it at least fair. Those Kappa get meek on land.
Sir Daisuke: A boat you say? Excellent, after this next performance, I should like to hear all about it.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Huh. Guess we just invented a new definition for "meat shield"
"Araki": Which time?
Kazemi ("Araki"): ignore me
Magistrate Buzen: Ah yes, our next performance is a kabuki troupe that recently arrived in Kara. They are quite good!
Kazemi ("Araki"): I was scrolled up, I didn't realize anybody had responded
Nick (Hida Sashimi): on quality/type of food
Hida Sashimi: Kn (Cooking) {+1 Food (Def. Interest)} [1d6+1 = 12]
"Araki": Notice {+2 Alertness} [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6+2 = 6]
"Araki": Smarts [1d6 = 5]
Sensei: The food is excellent, some of the best Hida has had in quite some time.
Hida Sashimi: Pleas send my compliments to the chef
Kuutai: So Daisuke-san, There we were, in the middle of their turf, on a barge, outnumbered and surrounded.
Sensei: The all-female kabuki troupe enters and begins dancing while music plays softly in the background. They are quite spectacular performers.
Sir Daisuke: Ah...fascinating.
Sir Daisuke cranes head around to try and get a look at Akemi.
Magistrate Buzen nudges Kazuki and Kuutai...
Kuutai: Wha?
Hida Sashimi: Um, is there something I can help you with, sir?
Magistrate Buzen: If either of you see any women that you like, I shall be happy to enquire about their "other" services.
Magistrate Buzen grins.
Sir Daisuke looks at Hida.
"Araki": I have someone else
Sir Daisuke: Yes, that woman you are with...might I have her name?
"Araki": Thank you for the offer, though
Sensei: The kabuki troupe leaves to prepare for the next act.
"Araki" glances at Akemi
"Araki": You mean Akemi?
Sir Daisuke: Akemi?
Sir Daisuke looks closely at her.
Akemi: Err...I need some fresh air.
Kuutai: I see. You would treat your guests to a very warm welcome. I shall take you up on that offer.
Akemi gets up and beats a hasty retreat.
Kuutai: Notice [1d10 = 5]
Kuutai looks for the performer who is most likely to be more than meets the eye
"Araki" looks very confused
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Like a Transformer?
Sensei: Kuutai spots ALL of them.
"Araki" does not understand what happened
Hida Sashimi: Please, she is my companion for this evening. And I would ask that you not disturb her again
Sir Daisuke: I thought her name was Hanagiri...and she worked at the Happy Heaven Brothel.
Hida Sashimi: Persuasion {+1 Etiquette} [1d6+1 = 8]
Sir Daisuke: In fact, I KNOW it is.
Kuutai: TO ARMS! DEFEND HER HONOR!
Quorteth (Kuutai): TO ARMS! DEFEND HER HONOR!
Quorteth (Kuutai): Delete first :O
Kazemi ("Araki"): gave me a heart attack there
Sir Daisuke: But as she is your paid companion for the night, I shall leave you to her tender care.
Sir Daisuke: She is quite spectacular.
Sir Daisuke looks wistful.
Magistrate Buzen: Hmmm....
Kuutai: Buzen-sama, I would like...that one. (points to the one with the lightest complexion)
Magistrate Buzen: Ah!
Magistrate Buzen: I shall make inquiries for you.
Magistrate Buzen: Sir Daisuke, if you would like to accompany me, I am sure we can find one that suits your tastes.
Sir Daisuke bows to Buzen.
Sir Daisuke: Of course.
Sir Daisuke leaves with Magistrate Buzen.
"Araki": Common Knowledge [1d6 = 3]
Buzen's Wife: Ah, look here comes some more sake. I do like chilled sake for these hot nights.
Kuutai: Araki, did you catch the name of this troupe?
Kuutai: I would like to remember who has filled this evening with such grace.
Sensei: It is the Waiting Blossom Traveling Kabuki Troupe.
Hida Sashimi: Please excuse me
Hida Sashimi goes looking for Akemi
Hida Sashimi: Notice [1d6 = 7]
"Araki": Notice {+2 Alertness} [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6+2 = 5]
Kuutai: Notice (Defining Interest (Heraldry +1) [1d10+1 = 10]
Quorteth (Kuutai): Where are these wandering minstrels from?
Sensei: Based on the heraldry they are wearing, the wandering minstrels are a traveling group from Ato.
"Araki": Common Knowledge [1d6 = 5]
Sensei: Hida finds Akemi out on the balcony, dabbing her eyes with a cloth and sniffing.
Quorteth (Kuutai): That monster! He made her cry!
Buzen's Wife offers everyone some chilled sake.
Hida Sashimi: Are you alright? I hope that buffoon did not offend you
Akemi: No, I'm fine.
Akemi: Go back and enjoy the party.
Kazemi ("Araki"): read as: don't leave me
Hida Sashimi: It was a little too stuffy in there for me. I'd rather be with you
Kuutai: Kuutai Chilled Sake? Why yes, please.
Magistrate Buzen comes back with Sir Daisuke.
"Araki": Thank you, but no. I'm rather poor with sake
Sir Daisuke has an attractive kabuki performer walking next to him, giggling as she walks.
Kuutai: Sorimizu's agricultural bounty can be tasted in every cup!
Sir Daisuke: And then I was forced to use a tree branch to fell the oni, because my sword had been knocked in the water...
Shino walks over and sits gracefully next to Kuutai.
Shino: Hello sir, my name is Shino, the magistrate said you found my performance spectacular and wished to compliment me in person.
"Araki": Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 9]
Shino looks demur, quiet, polite (i.e. model Japanese woman)
Shino: Stealth {+2 Thief} [1d6+2 = 12]
Kuutai: Why yes, your graceful undulations made every note of that melody peirce into the very bottom of my heart. I was truly moved.
Shino: I thank you very much sir.
Shino bows.
Kuutai: Where would one learn such flow and cadence?
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Is Sir Daisuke with me and Akemi, or still at the party?
Shino: It is years of practice, I have been studying since I was sold to the kabuki troupe at the age of 6.
Quorteth (Kuutai): CHALLENGE ACCEPTED.
"Araki": Smarts [1d6 = 4]
Kuutai: Smarts [1d10 = 8]
Hida Sashimi: What's wrong Akemi? Tell me.
Kuutai is using a benny
Kuutai: Smarts [1d10 = 6]
Akemi: Oh, nothing.
Akemi: I just want to come out and look at the stars.
Hida Sashimi: Please tell me. You're obviously upset
Hida Sashimi: Persuasion {+1 Etiquette} [1d6+1 = 6]
Akemi: No, I just want to be here in quiet and forget the past.
Kuutai: It seems you have learned more in your time Shino than most people do in several lifetimes, maybe you could give me some private lessons?
Shino: Perhaps, if my lord wishes it.
Hida Sashimi: Okay
"Araki": Persuasion (Acting) {+1 Defining Interest} [1d4+1 = 4]
"Araki" chokes on his drink
Shino: The Magistrate has offered the Troupe master considerable sums to make sure that I please you.
Shino bows again.
Hida Sashimi holds her and keeps her company, looking up at the stars and staying quiet
Shino is being VERY suggestive in her movements and tone of voice.
Kuutai Inquires the Magistrate for a suitable venue for 'Kabuki Lessons'
Magistrate Buzen: Ah yes, we have one more act, then one of my servants can direct you to an...appropriate...place.
Magistrate Buzen grins.
Kuutai: I see I see.
Buzen's Wife: Oh yes, the shimasen player...I am looking forward to hearing her perform.
Kuutai continues to imbibe fine cold sake.
"Araki": Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 11]
Nick (Hida Sashimi): to see if she's startng to feel better
Hida Sashimi: Notice [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 2]
Nick (Hida Sashimi): my guess: no idea
Akemi is evidently hiding her emotions very well.
A woman walks out on stage holding a shimasen. She looks drop dead gorgeous with an exquisite silk kimono (in the 300bu+ category). Her hair is done up in a very traditional looking style.
Buzen's Wife claps.
Hida Sashimi: We all have pasts that we want to forget. The important thing is not who you were, but who you are now.
Chiri bows.
Hida Sashimi: Persuasion {+1 Etiquette} [Critical failure!] [1d6+1 = 2]
Hida Sashimi is using a benny
Hida Sashimi: Persuasion {+1 Etiquette} [1d6+1 = 10]
"Araki" pales
Akemi: Thank you.
Akemi: You are right.
Kazemi ("Araki"): how drunk is she?
Sensei: Which she?
Kazemi ("Araki"): Chiri
Chiri: I shall play for you the Ballad of Princess Tenrai and the Fall of Rin.
Hida Sashimi: Let's go back inside. Not to the party, but back to our room. We can talk, or just enjoy each other's company
Chiri settles down.
"Araki" stops being pale
"Araki": whew
Akemi stops and listens to the sounds coming from the party.
"Araki": Kn(Lore & Legends) {+1 Defining Interest} [1d6+1 = 5]
Akemi: Hmm...we should go back to the party.
Akemi heads back into the party.
Chiri: Persuasion {+1 Stringed Instruments, +6 Alt. Charisma} [1d10+7 = 17]
TADM: That would be a 17 on the Perform check...
Chiri sings about the days of the Emperor's Orchard, the coming of the Baku, the fall of Rin, and Princess Tenrai's escape into the wilderness.
Hida Sashimi stays by Akemi's side to protect her from buffoons
"Araki" stays away from Sashimi
Chiri bows again.
Chiri: Thank you for your patronage and listening.
Sensei: Legends and Lore checks.
Kuutai: Smarts [1d6 = 8]

Hida Sashimi: Smarts [1d6 = 4]
Sir Daisuke: Shimasen player...that was beautiful...I am moved...but...
Sir Daisuke pauses.
Sir Daisuke: I think you left out some parts.
Chiri: The irrelevant ones.
Chiri bows again.
Chiri stands up and leaves.
Sir Daisuke: Fascinating...I did not know that one person could create that many sounds from a simple 3-stringed instrument.
Sir Daisuke spots Akemi and Hida returning.
Sir Daisuke: Ah! Hanagiri! Are you still with him?
Kuutai: Spellcasting [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 5]
Sir Daisuke: When is your next work day at the brothel?
Hida Sashimi palms chopsticks of death
Sir Daisuke: Do you still do that amazing thing with your tongue?
Akemi bows to Sir Daisuke.
Akemi: You will never know.
Sir Daisuke frowns.
"Araki": Ouch
Kuutai: Well now....Shino, shall we....begin our lessons?
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Note to self: Teach Akemi how to kill people with chopsticks if necessary
Shino: I look forward to it.
Magistrate Buzen: Oh look, the rest of the kabuki troupe is back for the second act.
Magistrate Buzen watches attentively.
Buzen's Wife watches attentively.
Akemi sits down and watches the kabuki troupe.
Hida Sashimi goes back to his seat
Sir Daisuke leaves with his giggling kabuki girl.
"Araki": Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 9]
"Araki": glances at Kuutai
"Araki" glances at Kuutai
Hida Sashimi gives Akemi one of his extra sets of steel chopsticks
Akemi: Oh, thank you.
Hida Sashimi: Keep these handy, in case he comes back
Kuutai: Yes Araki? It's not very gracious not to accept an earned gift.
Kuutai: Why don't you find a way to enjoy the evening.
Akemi hands Hida a pair of 300-fold steel aiguchi.
Akemi: Here, in case you need them. I have extras in my other sleeve.
Kazemi ("Araki"): o.O
Akemi: Chiri gave me about a dozen of them.
"Araki" nods in approval
Shino: Come mister Kuutai sir...let me instruct you in the ways of kabuki...privately.
Kuutai follows Shino.
Hida Sashimi: Oh...well...these can be a little more..."discreet"
"Araki": Notice {+2 Alertness} [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6+2 = 4]
Quorteth (Kuutai): NOM BENNY
"Araki": Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 11]
Kazemi ("Araki"): thank you Kuutai
Shino leads Kuutai off to some private quarters.
Shino: What would you like me to show you?
Hida Sashimi: Why did Chiri give you so many?
Akemi: She said she had plenty to spare and I might need them.
Akemi: Well, actually, she said, "She thinks the fat one cannot protect you, and you should learn to kill on your own."
Hida Sashimi: Oh :(
Kazemi ("Araki"): how many people are in the room with us?
Sensei: About two dozen. Akemi is being pretty quiet and soft-spoken.
Sensei: She is definitely not talking loud enough for the Magistrate to hear when he is 6 feet away
Kazemi ("Araki"): me neither, then, since I'm more than far enough away
Kuutai: Persuasion [1d6 = 5]
Shino: Smarts {+2 Shadow Arts} [1d6+2 = 9]
Sensei: I need a Vigor check at -2 for Kuutai.
Kuutai: Vigor [1d6 = 3]
Kuutai is using a benny
Kuutai: Vigor [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 10]
Kazemi ("Araki"): Way to go Kuutai!
Kazemi ("Araki"): You da man!
Shino returns to the party.
Kazemi ("Araki"): without Kuutai?
Quorteth (Kuutai): How heavy is she? i.e. Is it possible to have her get so drunk she forgets anything?
Kuutai: Notice [1d6 = 5]
Hida Sashimi: Are you enjoying yourself, Akemi?
Shino walks to the stage and behind the stage.
Akemi: Yes.
Akemi: I always enjoy myself when I am with you and your friends.
"Araki": Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 5]
Kazemi ("Araki"): Kuutai?
The kabuki troupe comes back on stage and bows.
Troupe Master: We apologize Magistrate Buzen, but unfortunate news has just reached us. We must depart immediately.
Troupe Master prostrates and asks forgiveness.
Magistrate Buzen: Oh, that is quite all right, I understand.
The kabuki troupe leaves very quickly.
"Araki" excuses himself and goes to look for the missing Kuutai
"Araki": Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 5]
Magistrate Buzen: Well, this has been an excellent party, but I fear that I am getting old and must retire. Please, enjoy yourselves.
Magistrate Buzen bows and leaves.
Buzen's Wife leaves with her husband.
Akemi nudges Hida.
Akemi: How about we go back to our room and I can show you that "tongue" thing that Daisuke was talking about?
Hida Sashimi: :) I like that plan
Sensei: Kazuki finds Kuutai.
Kazemi ("Araki"): how's he look?
Nick (Hida Sashimi): in a pool of his own blood?
TADM: Probably content and happy, or fully aware of the "campaign changing total screwup" he just pulled off...take your pick.
"Araki": Kuutai, what happened?
Kuutai: Durrrr..I swear to drunk im not god!
"Araki": WHAT
"Araki": What did you say? Shino came back, went behind the stage, and the entire Kabuki troupe took off
"Araki": What on earth did you do?
Kuutai: Yeah. Well...um...Errr...Lose lips sink ships.
Kuutai: We should probably be going now.
"Araki": More specific, please
Kuutai: Ok. I figured that since Chiri was adopted, that this was infact her normal posse.
"Araki" facepalm
Kuutai: Well..its not.
"Araki": Oh, crapcrapcrap
Sensei facepalm.
"Araki": Of course it's not, those were VOID WALKERS and Chiri FREED US FROM VOID WALKERS
"Araki": ARGH
Kuutai: Yep.
Entire Population of Konoyo facepalm.
"Araki": This is bad bad bad
Kuutai: Welcome to the hilarity of asymetry of information.
"Araki": Can you walk in straight lines?
Kuutai: Sure.
"Araki": Get Hida, get your gear, and get ready to leave
"Araki": DO IT SNEAKY LIKE
Sensei: New action plan:
Sensei: 1) Find Chiri
Sensei: 2) Keep Chiri alive
Sensei: 3) Keep Akemi alive
Sensei: 4) Also...NOW IS THE TIME TO PANIC
"Araki": I'll handle Chiri
Hida Sashimi gets very acquainted with Akemi, planning on not going anywhere else for a while
"Araki": Let's meet by that clothing shop we were at earlier
"Araki": If you get chased past there, have Hida leave a chopstick on the ground. We'll probably leave a dagger if need be
"Araki": We can then flee the city and meet up later
Kuutai: Sure. I will see you there.
"Araki": God Speed!
"Araki" heads off to find Chiri
Kuutai follows directions.
Sensei: Kuutai finds Akemi and Hida's room. The door is locked. There is a sock on the door. It is very college-esque.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): The door is not only locked, but barricaded. NO ONE enters, no one leaves
Kuutai: Hey you love birds, we need to get going. Someone aggroed the po po
Nick (Hida Sashimi): La la la la can't hear you
Kuutai: Ok...but I'm totally responsible for what will happen if you choose to stay here.
Akemi: ...and then I do this...
"Araki": Stealth {+2 Thief} [1d10+2 = 11]
Hida Sashimi: ...I didn't know that was possible in that position!...
Akemi: ...Absolutely, I'm incredibly flexible, check this out...
"Araki": Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 9]
Kazemi ("Araki"): do I pass close enough to their room to hear this?
Kuutai peeks through keyhole, takes notes for next time he meets Shino.
Sensei: Sure.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Keyhole has been plugged
Nick (Hida Sashimi): to prevent use of keys
"Araki": Agility {+2 Acrobat} [1d6+2 = 7]
Kuutai: Spellcasting [1d10 = 8]
Kuutai: Bolt damage [2d6 = 3]
Sensei: There is a loud thump at the door, and a puddle of water forms under it.
Hida Sashimi: ...Wow, you sure have a lot of stamina!...
Akemi: ...Oh! That is amazing!...
"Araki": Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 4]
Kazemi ("Araki"): pfff
Hida Sashimi: Vigor {+1 Mark} [1d6+1 = 10]
Hida Sashimi: ...I didn't even know people could bend like that...
Sensei: Notice checks for everyone EXCEPT Kuutai.
Hida Sashimi: Notice [1d6 = 11]
"Araki": Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 5]
Sensei: Hida, Akemi, and Kazuki all notice that they can suddenly see their breaths. The temperature has dropped about 40 degrees in the past twelve seconds.
Hida Sashimi: ...I know something to do to keep us warm...
Akemi grabs clothes for warmth.
"Araki": Lockpicking {+2 Thief} [1d6+2 = 10]
Hida Sashimi: Wasn't what I was thinking, but okay
Hida Sashimi also grabs clothes
Kuutai's head smashes through the door, which explodes on impact and sends shards of wood flying everywhere.
Hida Sashimi: Ahhh! What the hell?
Akemi: Eeeeek!
Chiri tosses the rest of Kuutai through the door.
Kuutai: Opmphf
Chiri: Dress yourselves. You must flee before you all die.
Chiri: She does not want to hear Kazuko's whining if you all die in her charge.
"Araki": a click sounds as the window latch comes undone and Araki steps in
"Araki": Ah, well, this does a good job consolidating everyone
Chiri is glowing with an hellish black light and tendrils of black flame extend out from her. While it looks like flame, everything that they touch turns a frosty white.
Hida Sashimi: You're all a bunch of perverts, you know that? Get...that can't be good
The wood around her is warping as she kicks the remnants of the door away.
Hida Sashimi: I'm not paying for that
Chiri: She is not amused.
Chiri looks at Hida.
Chiri: Persuasion {-5 Angry Charisma} [1d6-5 = 8]
Sensei: Spirit check from Hida.
Hida Sashimi: Spirit [1d8 = 2]
Hida is currently scared skinny.
Chiri: Hurry. This place will be attacked in less than fifteen minutes.
Hida Sashimi: Okay then. Guess the party's over
Chiri: And as much as she would love to see you all dead, that would make Kazuko sad. She is haunted by enough oni, she does not need that one also.
Akemi gets dressed.
Akemi gathers supplies and packs them.
Akemi: Hmm...do I pack the tea kettle or all the dishware first?
"Araki": Whichever is faster
Chiri sends several tendrils of flame to shatter things Akemi is planning on packing.
Chiri: Things can be replaced, your life cannot.
Akemi: All right! I get the idea.
Akemi: I'll just get all the spices.
Hida Sashimi helps Akemi with the packing
Chiri: Go to the docks, find a boat to Rirakkasu on the other side of the lake, look for a sailor with a dark green shirt and blue pants.
Hida Sashimi: I don't think we should make me madder than she is. Ready?
"Araki": Hey, Chiri, are Void Walkers beyond redemption?
Chiri: They are closer to redemption than you.
"Araki" blinks
Chiri: Go to the docks.
Chiri walks down the hallway.
Screams erupt from several parts of the building. Fires have broken out in both wings.
Akemi finishes packing.
Akemi: Okay, ready.
Akemi: I'll show you the back way out of this area and down to the docks.
Kuutai follows
Hida Sashimi: Let's make like a fire and blaze out of here
Akemi shows you the sneaky back way out of the district and down to the docks.
"Araki": Stealth {+2 Thief} [1d10+2 = 18]
Akemi: I never thought all those visits to rich young nobles and having to sneak out of the house before their parents found out would be so useful...
"Araki" helps everyone be very, very, sneaky
"Araki": Notice {+2 Alertness} [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6+2 = 7]
Kazemi ("Araki"): for pursuers
Hida Sashimi: Notice [1d6 = 5]
Kuutai: Notice [1d6 = 3]
A couple times it seems like you are being pursued, but just before you can spot them, there is a scream and then silence. Once you see a huge fountain of blood behind you and a head goes sailing through the air.
Kuutai: Oh dear.
Akemi: Icky!
Akemi leads the group down to the docks.
Akemi runs up to a barge.
Kazemi ("Araki"): who has the shell?
Akemi: Excuse me, can you take us to Rirakkasu?
Barge Sailor: Umm...sorry, barge is full.
Akemi: I was supposed to show you this.
Akemi hands sailor a small pendant.
Barge Sailor bows.
Barge Sailor: Absolutely! We have plenty of space. Come on board!
Akemi: Thanks.
Akemi runs on board.
Barge Sailor: We will cast off right away!
"Araki": Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 13]
Hida Sashimi stays by Akemi
"Araki" gets on board
Akemi settles down on boat.
Hida Sashimi: Notice [1d6 = 3]
Akemi: Whew...I'm not cut out for this.
Akemi holds Hida and looks nervous.
Akemi looks at Kazuki.
Hida Sashimi: It will be okay. We'll protect you
Akemi: Chiri gave it to me, she said it belonged to Kazuko and would help get me out of trouble.
Hida Sashimi: Persuasion {+1 Etiquette} [1d6+1 = 6]
Akemi: Thank you Hida.
Akemi presses herself closer to Hida.
Kazemi ("Araki"): Er, where is Ikuko?
Hida Sashimi wraps my arm around her
Akemi: I don't know...this is all so nerve-wracking.
Barge Sailor: Cast off!
Barge Sailor directs the barge to leave, it heads out into the lake.
From the lake, you have a spectacular view of the Magistrate's House burning down.

Nick (Hida Sashimi): brb need food
Quorteth (Kuutai): hrm....
Nick (Hida Sashimi): texted Mike. No response yet
The barge crosses the lake as the column of smoke from Magistrate Buzen's estate fades from view.
Akemi: I do feel kind of bad, I think we are forgetting someone.
Akemi: Or multiple someones...
Hida Sashimi: I'm sure we are. But at least you are safe
Akemi smiles.
Akemi: Thanks.
"Araki": Where's Ikuko?
Sailor: We should be in Rirakkasu by morning.
Akemi: OH!
Akemi: That's who is missing. When did we see her last?
"Araki": Smarts [1d6 = 3]
Hida Sashimi: Smarts [1d6 = 5]
"Araki": I think it was before the kappa
Sensei: Actually, it was after docking in Kara, so after the Kappa. Daichi just didn't join in the battle.
Sensei: At least, that's what Hida remembers.
The barge docks as the sun peers down over the fertile plains of Sorimizu.
Hida Sashimi: Notice [1d6 = 5]
Kuutai: Notice [1d10 = 9]
"Araki": Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 5]
Campaign saved.
The village of Rirakkasu is a pleasant fishing village. Except for the docks, none of the structures look very permanent. About 500 people live here, and most seem to be hard at work already. A number of men come down to the shore to help with the unloading of the barge. They offer friendly greetings to the party as you disembark.
Villager: Greeting sirs and lady!
Kuutai: Hello.
Villager: Big fire in Kara last night, we could see it from here.
Daichi: Greetings indeed, what took you so long!
Villager looks at Daichi.
Feneril (Daichi): that was to Kuutai et al.
Villager: Oh, you know these people? Small world then!
Hida Sashimi: I'm sure he wishes it was bigger
Kuutai: heh......
Akemi looks at Daichi.
Akemi: How is Lady...your friend?
Akemi coughs.
Daichi: My... daughter... is doing well
"Araki" coughs
Nick (Hida Sashimi): 0.0
"Araki": Ah, is that so? That's good to hear
Akemi hides any confusion relatively well.
Villager: Do you have any belongings you need us to get off the barge?
"Araki": I'm set
Villager: There is a nice inn right up the bank there.
Daichi: I will show them the way
Villager points to a large circular, yurt-looking building.
Daichi: My daughter and I have a room there
Hida Sashimi helps Akemi carry her things
Villager: Oh, thank you sir!
Kuutai: Well well, isn't this convenient.
Daichi: This way.
Daichi heads towards the inn.
Kuutai follows Daichi.
Sensei: Actually, you would be in the large common room, but you might have some blankets up for privacy. It is not the kind of place where there are "rooms" per se. Mostly because this entire village can be packed up and moved in about 3 hours.
Feneril (Daichi): right, well, close enough...
Soba: Oh hello sir!
Daichi: Hello
Soba bows as everyone enters.
Soba: These are your missing compansions?
Kuutai: Notice [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 3]
Daichi: Yes
"Araki": Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 7]
Hida Sashimi: For some reason, I am hungry for noodles
Daichi: I had expected them sooner, but at least they made it
Soba: Ah, I can have my wife prepare you some noodles sir.
Daichi: Notice [1d6 = 3]
Hida Sashimi: No no. I don't want to trouble you
Daichi looks around for his "daughter" but cannot see her.
Soba: I am the innkeeper here. If there is anything you need, please let me know. It costs 3bu per night to stay in the common room.
Soba bows again, then heads outside to gather firewood.
Akemi: He seems pleasant enough.
Kuutai: Well, that is defintely in our budget catergory.
Akemi: I'll go see what they have for food around here.
Daichi: Notice [1d6 = 2]
Akemi heads outside to the kitchen.
Daichi: Do any of you happen to see my daughter Keiko in here?
Kuutai: Notice [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 8]
"Araki": Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 17]
Kuutai: Smarts (Defining Interest (Heraldry +1) [1d10+1 = 15]
Akemi comes back in with some rice balls.
Akemi: Wow, she is a nice person, here, I have some rice balls with pickles in them.
Hida Sashimi: Kn (Regional Cuisine) {+1 Def. Interest} [Critical failure!] [1d4+1 = 2]
Akemi offers everyone a rice ball.
Kuutai: Oh wow, speaking like her, are you>
Kuutai: ?
Nick (Hida Sashimi): ...guess that's a good one to fail
Kazemi ("Araki"): lol
"Araki": Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 9]
[w] "Araki": poisoned rice?
Kuutai: Or is there some other person who gave you the rice balls?
[w] "Araki": that would be ironic if he thought they were toxic from the failure, but they were actually poisoned
Daichi: Notice [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 2]
"Araki": So, how long have you been here?
Daichi: Two nights.
"Araki" nods
Daichi moves his hand to his Katana.
Daichi: But I do not see my daughter Ik...uh...Keiko in here, I'm sure she was here when I left
Daichi: I fear something may have happened to her in my brief absense.
Akemi looks confused at Kuutai's statements.
Akemi: Huh? No, Soba's wife said she had some rice balls that I could give to everyone.
Kuutai: I see.
Kuutai: What was her name, Udon?
Akemi: Miso, actually.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): White or red?
Daichi: How can you worry about rice balls when Iku...er....Keiko could be missing and in danger?
Daichi: We should spread out and search the area for signs of her!
Daichi: Notice [1d6 = 11]
Daichi: Oh, nevermind
Daichi: There she is
Daichi takes two rice balls and walks over to "Keiko."
Miso walks in, she has reddish hair.
Miso: Hello all.
Miso bows.
Miso: It is an honor to meet you.
Hida Sashimi bows
Hida Sashimi: And you as well.
Kuutai bows
Miso: If there is anything you need, please let me know. I shall be out cleaning the pots for dinner.
Miso bows and leaves.
Kuutai: What a nice, warm greeting.
"Araki": I think we should find Keiko. It's not good for her to be alone
Kuutai: With Soba, I didn't know if he was being cold or not.
Kuutai: Oh sure. Let's go on looking!
Daichi waves the group over to where he and "Keiko" are sitting.
Akemi walks over to Ikuko and settles next to her.
Akemi: We were worried about you, "Keiko"
"Araki" heads over to Daichi and Ikuko
Akemi: Are you feeling better?
"Keiko": Much. Although I won't feel entirely recovered until I take a nice relaxing bath.
"Keiko": In my sister's blood.
Akemi: There are...hmm...
"Araki": That is not good for your skin
"Araki": Or so I have heard
Akemi: She is rather small, I am not sure there is sufficient blood for you to submerge properly.
"Keiko": True, but it is permissible to indulge every once in a while
Kuutai shrugs
Akemi: Oh, I was holding these for you after we were separated.
Akemi hands Ikuko back some belongings.
"Araki": Don't give us that, Kuutai, there's not enough left to fill a thimble after you're done
"Keiko": Thank you Akemi, I am most grateful.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): about what time at night is it?
Kuutai: Well, that is true. I was more shrugging out of an indiffernce to....'Nobility'
TADM: It is about 0800 in the morning.
Kuutai: Spellcasting [1d6 = 17]

Hida Sashimi: We should probably get going soon. Whoever set fire to the estate may be on their way here
TADM: What timing Hida!
Kuutai: That is affirmative. We should get on a boat ASAP. TO where, Doragon Mizu, I say.
Kuutai: From there we can plot a sufficent return.
Daichi: I think that is a terrific idea
Hida Sashimi: Let's get going, then
"Araki": I've never been there, before, what's it like?
Daichi: I was being sarcastic, the doragon are butchers and theives, you think I would allow my... daughter, to visit such a place?
"Keiko": Now, now father. I think Doragon sounds like a very lovely place to visit.
"Keiko": Persuasion {+4 Very Attractive, +2 Most High, +2 Fine Attire, -2 Blind, +2 Charismatic, +1 Cultured} [1d12+9 = 19]
Daichi grumbles.
Sensei: As Ikuko is speaking, everyone notices that they can see her breath. Then all their breaths...then the fire in the middle of the room flickers and goes out...
Kuutai: Come now, a good father will protect his family against all threats. Certainly, we would be fine there.
Daichi: As you wish...
"Araki": Let's leave now
"Araki" gets up
Hida Sashimi: Notice [1d6 = 5]
Sensei: Spirit checks
Hida Sashimi: Spirit [1d6 = 5]

Nick (Hida Sashimi): If they're from the Kabuki tribe, that means that they should be wearing masks. So, how would we know she's pissed?
Shino is now focusing all hostility on Kuutai.
Quorteth (Kuutai): NEED TANK?
Nick (Hida Sashimi): meat shield powers, activate!!
Shino radiates magical aura of "pissed at Kuutai."
Hida Sashimi: Maybe we should leave these two alone to work out their problems
Hida Sashimi tries to subtly sneak out like...well, a fat man leaving a tent
Quorteth (Kuutai): So...I am assuming a combat is going to start.....soonish.

Daichi: I cut that one in half.
Hida Sashimi: I'll be fine. We didn't do as well as I would have liked, though
Daichi pionts to the dead one.
Sensei: There is a dead Ikusan Void Walker Ninja on the ground.
Miso: Ah!
"Araki" search the body
"Araki": Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 10]
Kuutai: Spirit (Battle Dammage -3) [1d6-3 = 1]
Sensei: You find a katana, some shurikens, a bloody black outfit, some thin sandals, a couple earrings.
Sensei: Plus some feminine hygiene products
Sensei: Two vials of a thin black colored liquid
"Araki": Stealth [1d10 = 7]
"Araki": What do we have here?
Kuutai: Spirit (Battle Dammage -3) [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6-3 = 1]
Feneril ("Keiko"): Dibs on the feminine hygiene products!
Miso looks at corpse.
Miso: She was pretty.
Kuutai: hurrrrrdurrrrrr
Hida Sashimi: what did they take, besides "Araki"'s weapon?
Miso: Well, toss her in the fire and burn the corpse.
Miso: Once he is done fondling the body.
Kuutai: WAIT!
Kuutai: Urrrgrrhr
Kuutai: I HAS A PLAN!
Miso makes rude gestures at Kazuki.
"Araki" takes the vials
Kuutai: We can revive her and extract information.
"Araki": Wait, what?
Kuutai: Miso, you woudl be...how we say, adept at this procedure, no?
Kuutai: Or know someone who would be
"Araki": Common Knowledge [1d6 = 11]
Kuutai: "Advanced Interogation"
Kuutai smiles deeply, despute being very bloodied.
Daichi: I cut her in half, how are you going to revive her?
Kazemi ("Araki"): Many staples
Kuutai: Im not sure. I think I have a potion that will do it. its magic.
"Araki": Wait...you think?
Daichi: IF you have a potion that can bring someone back from being cut in half we should probably save that for ourselves.
Miso: I have no idea what you are talking about.
Hida Sashimi: I agree with Daichi
Miso: But you are creepy people, so I'm going outside.
Kuutai: Ok...So then.
Kuutai: Spirit (Battle Dammage -3) [1d6-3 = 2]
Kuutai: Well, Time to get patched up!
Kuutai: Spellcasting (Battle Dammage -3) [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6-3 = 2]
Kuutai Is Dizzy and out of it still
Kuutai: Spirit (Battle Dammage -3) [1d6-3 = 5]
Kuutai continues trying to get off 3 casts within 10 minutes
Kuutai: Spellcasting (Battle Dammage -3) [1d10-3 = 3]
Kuutai: Spellcasting (Battle Dammage -3) [1d10-3 = 13]
Kuutai: Spellcasting [1d6 = 13]
Kuutai brushes himself off nonchalantly.
Akemi: Wow Kuutai! You are amazing.
Kuutai: Well, who wants some brunch?
Akemi: Not in a way that Hida should be jealous, but that was pretty cool.
Feneril (Daichi): Me thinks the lady doth protest too much...
"Araki": Hey, I found a couple bottles of Pepsi
Kuutai: Why thank you. All things are possible in Magic!
Akemi (Whispers): How about weight loss?
"Araki" (whisper): Sorry, I don't think its diet
Hida Sashimi: Notice [1d6 = 11]
Nick (Hida Sashimi): I heard that!!
"Araki": Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 9]
Akemi has a fear of dislocated hips.
Kuutai (whispers): Um.......Maybe.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): "Why do you drink diet soda?" "So I can eat regular cake?"
"Araki": This is really annoying how they keep on finding us like this
Daichi: Speaking of... Perhaps we should get a move on before we attract any more unwanted attention.
Kuutai: Get on a boat NOW I say.
"Keiko": What a wise suggestion Father.
"Keiko": I like boats!
Kuutai: These guys have been on us since day one. (points to the dead ninja)
"Araki": I've only got one keepsake left, now...
Kuutai studies the earrings of the dead Kabuki
Kuutai: Smarts [1d10 = 6]
Akemi: Oh before we go, that Miso lady was so nice, I'm going to give her these new earrings I bought in Kara. I don't really like them anyway. They look kind of like the ones on that dead ninja anyway.
Akemi walks outside.
"Araki" intercepts Akemi
"Araki": Let me see those
Akemi: Uh, sure.
Akemi hands Kazuki the earrings.
Kazemi ("Araki"): tracking devices?
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Found on a t-shirt at U-Con: "These are not the breasts you are looking for"
Nick (Hida Sashimi): If they're part of a traveling village, we SHOULD give them to Miso to leave us alone
Akemi gets packed up and gets several days of food from Miso and Soba.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): pays for the food
Kuutai: Well...Shall we be off?
Akemi: All right, I'm ready to go!
"Araki": Hey, Kuutai, do you think you could repurpose these earrings so they work for us instead?
"Keiko": As am I.
Akemi has stuffed about 100 pounds worth of stuff in her large rectangular backpack.
Kuutai: That's a good question.
Kuutai: Smarts [1d6 = 5]
"Araki": Common Knowledge [1d6 = 2]
Kazemi ("Araki"): pff
Akemi picked up the Brawny Edge with her last Advance.
Akemi still only has a d6 Smarts with a Wild Die.
Kazemi ("Araki"): Doesn't brawny make you...wider?
Sensei: Nope, it makes you brawnier, as in much better muscle tone.
Kuutai: Shall we be off, in search of "out of here"?
Akemi: Come on "Keiko" we should be going.
Hida Sashimi: Yes. Sounds good
"Araki": Sure, let's throw these trackers in the fire first
Akemi heads outside with Keiko.
Daichi leads Keiko out with Akemi.
Kazemi ("Araki"): or better yet...
Kuutai: BURN! Mwhahahah
Hida Sashimi heads out with the people not endangering us today
Sensei: The earrings sit there and do not burn.
Kuutai waits an hour.
"Araki": Hm. High quality goods
Kuutai: Okay.....I has a plan for this earring!
Sensei: The earrings are warm, but not melted.
"Araki": Repair [1d6 = 5]
Kazemi ("Araki"): how long until we reach the shore from here?
"Keiko": Knowledge (Nobility) [1d6 = 15]
Sensei: All right, so you are leaving the village and heading south towards the shore?
Sensei: It will take about 3 days travel
Feneril ("Keiko"): Aye.
Kuutai: GO GO GO !
You have been walking south for about an hour when the air again grows very cold.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Crap
Hida Sashimi: Notice [Critical failure!] [1d6 = 1]
"Araki": Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 11]
Daichi pushes Ikuko to the ground and draws his Katana.
Daichi: Notice [1d6 = 3]
Sensei: Hida is clearly distracted by the fact that Akemi is suddenly nipply.
Chiri appears.
Daichi: Oh, it is you
Chiri: She is woeful, you are not all dead.
Daichi puts his Katana away.
Kuutai: I see....
"Keiko": It's lovely to see you again as well.
"Araki": The kabuki ninja stole my kusari-gama!
Daichi helps Keiko back to her feet.
Chiri sniffs.
Chiri: Poor widdle wannabe ninja boy lost his widdle weapon?
Kuutai: Does anyone have any alcohol?
"Araki": That seems to be the only thing they took
"Araki": And they left immediately
Kuutai: Akemi, you have some sake, right?
Chiri: Yes. They had need for it.
Akemi: Yes.
Chiri: She is sure Shino has other reasons as well.
Akemi: Here, you must need a drink after that weird magic thing...
Akemi offers bottle of sake to Chiri.
Chiri frowns.
Feneril ("Keiko"): Does chiri ever not frown?
Sensei: Yes, her usual facial expression is to have her lips pressed in a tight line like a grimace.
Kuutai: Well, we are headed off - Have you any advice for us, seeking more of the reagents for our brew?
Chiri: Look carefully.
Chiri shrugs.
"Araki": Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 7]
Kuutai: Well that is good advice.
Chiri: She has need of traveling south for a while, and your hapless antics amuse her.
Kazemi ("Araki"): +2 more for traps
Akemi puts the bottle of sake back.
Chiri walks along with the group for the rest of the day.
"Araki" rumages through his pack as they travel
The day passes uneventfully as the group heads south.
Kuutai: Notice [1d10 = 16]
"Araki": Stealth [1d10 = 3]
Chiri: Hmm...that looks like Keiko's mask.
Chiri: She guesses you killed her.
Chiri: Good job.
"Araki": Wait, what? I didn't kill anyone for this
"Araki": I skipped town with this
Chiri: Ah yes, that would make sense, she knows you are completely inept in all things. She assumes Daichi did all the work again.
"Araki": Quiet, you
Daichi: She isn't wrong
"Araki": So who's Kusari-gama was that?
Kuutai: And why would they want it so much?
Kuutai: And...why would they even let us live....
Chiri: She suspects that Kusari-gama means much to Shino's father, and he would want it back.
"Araki": Common Knowledge [1d6 = 5]
Chiri: They let you live because they have poor judgment.
Hida Sashimi: Persuasion {+1 Etiquette} [1d6+1 = 14]
"Araki": Her father?
Hida Sashimi: Tell us more
Chiri: Or perhaps they know how much that your pathetic continued existences makes her life miserable.
Chiri looks at Hida.
Kuutai: Ouch...
Chiri: What do you want to know, Fat One?
Chiri: She finds you third least offensive, and smartest in this group.
Hida Sashimi: Well, if you hate us so much, why do you continue to help us?
Akemi hopes she beats Hida on the " least offensive" category.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): She may mean offensive, as in "combat capable", so Kazuki is last and Daichi is first
Chiri shrugs.
Chiri: She has no choice.
Kazemi ("Araki"): Kazuki<Ikuko<else
"Araki": Who is Shino's father?
Hida Sashimi: We do appreciate the help, but...I think it would benefit us all if we knew exactly who was trying to stop us. Something better than "everyone", anyway
Chiri: Desu is Shino's father.
Chiri: Specifically Lord Desu of Toransu.
"Keiko": Knowledge (Nobility) [1d6 = 4]
"Araki": Common Knowledge [1d6 = 4]
"Araki": Persuasion (Acting) {+1 Defining Interest} [1d4+1 = 3]
Kuutai: Smarts [1d10 = 8]
"Araki" goes pale
"Araki": Uh oh
"Araki": That is not good
"Araki": Well, a good thing we didn't kill her
Kuutai: Why not? Anything that dangerous is not good to have around
Hida Sashimi: Smarts [1d6 = 10]
For those of you going with Common Knowledge or Nobility checks - Daimyo Desu is the ruler of the town of Toransu. He rules the island of Ifukunen and is the master of the Black Citadel. He is the man who lead the Void Walker purge of all Onmyoji throughout Konoyo. He is one of the most feared men in Konoyo.
"Araki": That's why not
Chiri: Perhaps you did not kill her because you would rather ramble secrets to her during pillow talk.
Kuutai is too embarassed to respond.
Chiri: Or was it more of a gasping and panting kind of talk?
Kuutai: I....um....erm....
"Araki": Derp?
Chiri: Although, Kazuko is amused that part of your anatomy still works.
Feneril ("Keiko"): I would say that Ikuko is an expert in that sort of information gathering as well
Hida Sashimi: Derp is my guess
Kuutai: Wait, shes ALIVE?
"Araki": Oh, are you still speaking with Kazuko?
Kazemi ("Araki"): (She's probably still dead)
Kuutai: I was not aware the dead had any interest in such trival things
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Are we still moving as we talked, or are we standing somewhere not paying attention?
Hida Sashimi: Notice [1d6 = 4]
"Keiko": You're the first man I've ever met who admitted that his manhood was trivial.
Kazemi ("Araki"): moving
Nick (Hida Sashimi): was totally expecting a crit fail there
"Keiko" laughs.
Sensei: You are still walking along, and you do not spot any hostile encounters coming your way
Chiri smiles at Kuutai.
Chiri: Intimidation {+7 Charisma} [1d10+7 = 16]
Kuutai: Stop that face. you are giving me the willies!
Sensei: Spirit Check for Kuutai
Kuutai: Spirit [1d6 = 5]
"Araki": How do you do that?
Sensei: Kuutai soils himself he is so scared of Chiri's smile.
Kazemi ("Araki"): to Chiri about her smile
Kuutai Got stared down, and sexually insulted, and acts sheepish for the time being.
Chiri: She imagines seeing you all hanging from your entrails, it makes her happy enough to smile.
Akemi: Moving on...
Hida Sashimi: Kn (Regional Cuisine) {+1 Def. Interest} [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6+1 = 8]
The day passes, as does the next one, and the one after that. The group finds themselves along the southern Sorimizan coast, having passed only a few small villages and farmsteads along the way.
"Araki": So is this mask enchanted at all? Especially towards tracking, although I don't think they need this considering they have those earrings
"Araki" glances at Kuutai as well
Chiri: No, the mask is not enchanted.
Hida Sashimi: Akemi, why don't you look for herbs while we walk? You may use my herb collecting gear, if you like
Chiri: Not in a way you understand at least. She could explain, but she is afraid your polysyllabic vocabulary is limited.
Kuutai: Ouch
"Araki": Don't you mean monosyllabic?
Hida Sashimi: No, I don't think she does
Nick (Hida Sashimi): show on map, please
Kazemi ("Araki"): I guess it depends on how the insult falls
Kazemi ("Araki"): referring to my polysyllabic vocab or calling my vocab polysyllabic
"Araki": Kuutai, can you ID what this mask can do? You're good with magic, right?
Nick (Hida Sashimi): ty TADM
Kuutai: Smarts [1d6 = 9]
Kuutai: Spellcasting [1d6 = 15]
Kuutai: Lets have a look at it....
Kuutai: I wouldnt want to take it at just face value.
Kuutai carefully inspects the mask
Kazemi ("Araki"): >.>
Kuutai: Smarts (Defining Interest(Classical Literature) +1) [1d10+1 = 18]
Kuutai: Hrm...who would wear such a thing....
Kazemi ("Araki"): classical literature?
Kuutai: What's so bizzare about that?
Quorteth (Kuutai): What's so bizzare about that?
Kazemi ("Araki"): it's where you used it
Kazemi ("Araki"): it's as if it has to do with the mask, which is a bit odd
Quorteth (Kuutai): Yeah, but this is Japan - All the cannon literature is religious fact. Think about it.
Hida Sashimi: Persuasion {+1 Etiquette} [1d6+1 = 14]
Kuutai: Ah! I understand now!
Chiri: While Akemi sets up camp, she shall go look for a boat.
Chiri walks east along the shoreline.
Hida Sashimi helps Akemi
Akemi settles down her gear and sets up things for the campsite.
Kazemi ("Araki"): "I"?
Akemi: Survival [1d8 = 3]
"Araki": Sweet, what's it do?
Akemi: So, any idea how we are going to find a boat?
Kuutai: I'm not sure it does anything by itself, Araki
Akemi: I don't suppose Kuutai has a magic spell that summons boats?
"Araki": What does it pair up with?
Kuutai: Sure...We have Little Miss Connections right here!
Kuutai: You aren't getting it...time has ascended this mere object beyond its physical constituents.
Hida Sashimi: I don't know. Finding one shouldn't be hard. Her talking one into taking us will be the hard part
Kuutai: They say if a cat lives 100 years, it will become a nekomata, a youkai of sorts
TADM: How about a bakeneko?
Quorteth (Kuutai): Either is fine =)
"Keiko": I think if we need to talk our way onto a boat, you should all just leave that part to me
Nick (Hida Sashimi): If you made a tie out of a cat, would it be a neko-tie?
Kuutai: This mask, in the bloody crucible of history, has so ascended itself.
"Keiko": I'm sure Chiri would be capable of doing it as well, but then the crew would all be drowned in their own blood and we would have to sail the boat ourselves.
Akemi: Maybe Chiri is good with a boat?
"Araki": Wait, so does this make it an intelligent spirit?
Akemi: But I prefer the non-violent way
Hida Sashimi: Well, she is good at making Kazuki "seas" with anger
Kuutai bows to Keiko
Nick (Hida Sashimi): what was that box?
TADM: Random card draw reveals...hilarity ensues.
Kuutai: Intelligence? Perhaps. I wouldn't wear it.
Chiri returns shortly after dusk.
"Araki": Do you think it could be of benefit?
Chiri: A ship shall soon be here. It will take you to Doragon Mizu.
Hida Sashimi: You're not coming with us?
Chiri: Assuming, of course, they do not kill you.
"Keiko": I think we will probably be going as hostages
"Keiko": But no matter
"Keiko": I had anticipated as much
Kuutai: Interesting.....I like your style Chiri.
Chiri shrugs.
Chiri: She has things to attend to, and debts to be paid. She is certain she will have to suffer through your continued existence in the future.
Kuutai: Useful perhaps, But remember, anything searching for aggression and related emotions will pick that thing up very easily.
"Keiko": As am I
"Keiko": I'm sure we will run into you again Chiri
Chiri heads north.
"Araki": Kn(Lore & Legends) {+1 Defining Interest} [1d4+1 = 10]
"Keiko": Akemi, would you be a dear and light us a fire so the Doragon can find us more easily?
"Keiko": Persuasion {+4 Very Attractive, +2 Most High, +2 Fine Attire, -2 Blind, +2 Charismatic, +1 Cultured} [1d12+9 = 20]
Akemi builds a huge bonfire.
Kuutai: Such a pure fire..,
Hida Sashimi: Notice [1d6 = 3]
About midnight, a Kitamae Bune (imagine a pirate sloop, of sorts) sails in near the shore. A couple rowboats launch from it and row ashore.
Kuutai: Notice [1d10 = 9]
A raven haired, pale skinned woman with bare katana at her waist gracefully leaps out of the rowboat and walks towards the fire.
Kuutai notices that she has piercing emerald eyes and a warm, friendly smile.
Feneril ("Keiko"): down boy!
Feneril ("Keiko"): haven't you learned your lesson?
"Araki": Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 12]
Quorteth (Kuutai): Wut'z lear'nin bozz?
Captain Mitsu: Greetings, I am Mitsu, daughter of Same, a pirate prince of Doragan Mizu.
Kazemi ("Araki"): lol
Captain Mitsu: And your companion offered me something I desire, in exchange for taking you to Watanabe.
Kuutai bows deeply
"Keiko": How kind.
Captain Mitsu gestures for the sailors to come forward and pick up your gear.
Hida Sashimi bows
Hida Sashimi: And what is that, if I may ask?
Hida Sashimi: Persuasion {+1 Etiquette} [1d6+1 = 11]
Captain Mitsu: Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d8+2 = 4]
Captain Mitsu looks at Ikuko.
Captain Mitsu: Ah, a Gyoshen, I can tell from the cheek bones.
"Keiko": Too true.
Captain Mitsu: You would be Ikuko, given the eyes.
"Keiko": Indeed, my sister murdered our father and framed me for his death.
Captain Mitsu shrugs.
Captain Mitsu: Good for your sister.
"Keiko": Indeed
"Keiko": but if she wants to brand me an outlaw, then it is time I acted like one
Nick (Hida Sashimi): The >.> eyes, or the (o) (o) eyes?
Captain Mitsu laughs.
Captain Mitsu: Then maybe I can help with that.
Captain Mitsu looks at Hida.
"Keiko": It is well known that I was sent away to find a husband
Captain Mitsu: What were you asking? What was offered in trade?
Hida Sashimi: Yes
Captain Mitsu: Something I value very highly.
Captain Mitsu: Let us say, taking you to Watanabe aboard the Sea Demon is but a minor portion of the payment.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): In other words, she rolled higher than my 11
TADM: More likely, it is important for you NOT to know yet.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Oh. Oh dear
Captain Mitsu: But come, we can discuss this aboard the ship, we need to be past the Ikusan patrols around Ato when the tides are right.
"Keiko": Knowledge (Nobility) [1d6 = 11]
Hida Sashimi: As you wish
"Araki": Thank you
Kuutai seems compliant.
Hida Sashimi: Kn (Underworld) {+1 Yakuza (Def. Interest)} [1d6+1 = 3]
"Araki": Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 10]
"Araki" stares in wonder at the ocean, once aboard the ship
Captain Mitsu: Cast off!
Captain Mitsu: Move it you slugs, or we'll have a whole lot of Ikusans after us!
Captain Mitsu gestures to the group.
Kuutai: Ah....the ocean. I feel strangely attuned here.
"Keiko": Particularly strange given your affinity for fire.
Captain Mitsu: You may rest under that awning, it is the best accommodations we have for now.
Hida Sashimi: I noticed that too
Kuutai stares blankly into the water for hours.
"Araki": Woah, look at how far out the water goes!
Captain Mitsu gives the group an almost feral smile.
Captain Mitsu: We have too much loot in the hold for proper quarters for passengers.
Hida Sashimi: Thank you. It should be fine, if this weather holds
"Keiko": Vigor [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 4]
"Araki": Vigor [1d6 = 10]
