GM: The fog settles in a bit, making everything more than about twenty feet away look like a hazy outline.

The sounds of gunfire and explosions come from all along the perimeter of the Firebase. The mortars and recoilless rifles a little farther back open fire where the enemy starts to get close.
Withers: Well, that doesn't seem so bad.
Hogpile: You just had to say something, didn't you Sarge?
Colwyn O'Reilly: i would imagine that looks really cool in the fog

Becker: Yeah, it looks pretty cool with the random flashes of light through the fog, sort of like lightning or fireworks at ground level.

After a few minutes, the sounds of combat die down. About the only guarantee you have now is that the enemy knows where you are.

Yet, time passes, the minutes tick away, and there is no sign of the Viet Cong.

Thirty minutes pass, then you see human shapes rushing at you through the fog. A LOT of them.
GM: Okay, to speed things along, everyone make a Vigor check and subtract fifty combat rounds of ammunition from your character sheet.
Becker: Uhh...I don't have that much.

After what seems to be an eternity of firing, reloading, dodging enemy shots, and praying the incoming mortar shells don't get you, the attack seems to subside. The few enemy that are still standing flee back into the mist.

The respite is short lived though, as Samson yells, "Gookzillas" and fires his Grenade launcher at a distant point. The grenade overshoots the charging giant VC, but it does highlight them nicely for the following combat round.

There is shooting all along the perimeter for another few minutes. Two of the sandbag bunkers explode as grenades and mortar shells land on them. There are shouts that the enemy breaches the line farther down, but the recoilless rifles make short work of the Gookzillas. The battlefield falls eerily quiet.
Hogpile: I get the feeling the bad guys will be back very shortly.
