Yama slings his bokken over one shoulder and heads towards the mountains, thumping along with his walking stick.

About three hours later, you are in the foothills. The sounds of normal animal life have returned. The sky overheard seems less gloomy and the everpresent sense of hunger has diminished.
Yama scans the air for Tengu.
A number of larger hunting birds glide through the air, looking for game animals.

The pair of large avians descend rapidly towards the group, shifting from bird to half-man form mid-flight. They land on the ground about twelve feet in front of the group.

Their feathers are mottled and grey and the stench of carrion fills the air. Decaying bamboo hats cover their sharp, avian features. Both of them have katana strapped behind their backs. They look over the group carefully, taking your measure and clearly trying to decide what to do with the group.

The group trundles along for the rest of the day and as night falls, Yama directs the group to a small cave that will serve as shelter for the night.
