Savage Worlds Ruleset for Fantasy Grounds II
(c) 2009 Pinnacle Entertainment Group.
The group is back in their nice little cubby hole, next to the Cellar.
Conveniently noted as point "A" on the map.
[w] MacGyverovich: Should i roll for nightmares again? Or have we not slept since the last roll?
[w] -> MacGyverovich: You have received a decent night's sleep, don't worry about it for the start of this mission.
Nick (MacGyverovich): How do you whisper rolls again?
After a couple days of very little going on, Captain Petrovich arrives with a group of soldiers.
MacGyverovich: Good day, Captain Petrovich
Ivan: What be Russia's orders!!?!?!?
Stefan Vasilev: ZZZZZ
[w] MacGyverovich -> Stefan Vasilev: Vasilev yes
MacGyverovich: Kicks Stefan to wake him up before he's shot
Captain Boris Petrovich: Hello Comrades. You have been tasked with a very important mission.
Stefan Vasilev: stumbles awake
Ivan: What does my country want of me!?!?
Ivan: Clearly R&R has Ivan bored and looking for something to do
MacGyverovich: What is our mission, sir?
[w] MacGyverovich: Also, I meant to ask: Did all the redshirts fail their revival rolls last session?
Captain Boris Petrovich: Along with these men (he gestures to the moonstruck looking recruits behind him) Third squad has been tasked with leading the assault against an enemy artillery position.
Captain Boris Petrovich: There is at least a full enemy platoon there, along with an unknown amount of support, plus Stukas are operating in the area. I recommend you plan carefully.
[w] MacGyverovich: er, two sessions ago, when the SS troops attacked
[w] -> MacGyverovich: Pavel, Oleg, Nikolai, and Alexei are the only ones in Third Squad still alive.
Ivan: Aight. =)
Ivan: Looks at MacGyverovich
Captain Boris Petrovich: To assist you have I acquired these. (Hands Mac three stange-looking IEDs)
Captain Boris Petrovich: I recommend you not have one person carry them, and they are temperamental devices.
Captain Boris Petrovich: Good luck, I expect you not to return.
Captain Boris Petrovich: (leaves)
Nick (MacGyverovich): IED = incenidary explosive device?
Stefan Vasilev: Thank you for your gifts Comrade
Ivan: .....What Are these MacGyverovich?
The Captain's command squad goes with him. There are nine very nervous looking young Russian soldiers.
Nikolai: Doesh any ofs yous have Vodka?
Ivan: Notice [1d4 = 6]
MacGyverovich: Notice [1d8 = 2]
Tack (Ivan): Observe he IED
Stefan Vasilev: Smarts [1d6 = 5]
Soviet Infantry: No Vodka here. We are such amazing Redshirts we don't even get actual names.
MacGyverovich: Smarts [1d6 = 8]
Pavel: Sucks to be you.
Tack (Ivan): lol
DeadByte (Stefan Vasilev): lol
MacGyverovich: Gives one to Pavel, Ivan, and the least meatshield looking redshirt
Tack (Ivan): You'd be correct. he is awesome
Tack (Ivan): MacGyverovich is a cruel and heartless master
Stefan Vasilev: It's how he got his name
As the group examines the IEDs, it is obvious that these strange contraptions are designed to be attached via a gooey resin substance to the barrel of an artillery piece. There is a pull string that causes a chemical reaction that makes it explode. It looks like any sudden movement could cause premature detonation.
Ivan: 0.0
Ivan: Well....Um.....
Nick (MacGyverovich): Does anyone actually know where the artillery we're going to attack is? You know, since the Captain didn't mention where
Tack (Ivan): From the west
DeadByte (Stefan Vasilev): on the Fourth day... look to the east
Nick (MacGyverovich): Obviously, but where from the west. west includes all the way to berlin, but i don't think they could hit here from there
Ivan: So....yah.....Where is our path of sneakery there MacGyverovich?
Pavel: Sorry for the distraction guys, but Oleg, Nikolai, Alexei and I leveled up last week and we have our own character sheet now!
Oleg: I'm SSSOOOOO excited!
Tack (Ivan): Does that make you more or less durable??
Alexei: The same.
Alexei: We just gets bigger dices to shoots people with and more skillz.
DeadByte (Stefan Vasilev): More expendable
Soviet Infantry: Umm...the Captain gave me a map? Is that what you are asking for?
Ivan: You the captain there. You're orders are Russia's orders! Where to!?
MacGyverovich: Yeah, that would be helpful
Pavel: Maps are good.
Soviet Infantry: (hands map to Mac)
Dmitri: especially if they're right
Soviet Infantry: Oh, and I have been told that I am supposed to give you a pair of pennants and a small code book so that you can call in Russian artillery support.
Soviet Infantry: (hands Mac code book and a pair of pennants)
Ivan: Wait......We want to call in our artillery? 0.0
MacGyverovich: Here Dmitri, have a present for being late. Pavel, give him your IED. Carefully
Soviet Infantry: Evidently our artillery spotters will be watching the area around the Fascist artillery for your signal to attack.
Stefan Vasilev: CAREFULL Comrade... that artillery may be called in on you
Dmitri: IED?
Pavel: Oh thank god! (Very carefully hands a strange looking IED to Dmitri)
Dmitri: So where should I toss this?
Ivan: NONSENSE, the last time someone called artillery down, it took just as many krauts as it did comrades. Done deal.
Dmitri: meh, I say we give it to Nikolai for safe keeping
MacGyverovich: You don't toss it. You attach it to artillery
Stefan Vasilev: Toss it comrade... see what happens
Dmitri: ah
GM: Do you unroll the map the soldier gave you?
Ivan: What part of Improvised is pre-meditated? MacGyverovich is clearly insane!
Dmitri: so this is the targeter for our artilery?
MacGyverovich: Da
Ivan: Ohh ohh! I want the pennant!
The spot marked "T" is the location on the map closest to your location on the normal Stalingrad map. The points labeled "A" are the two artillery pieces you need to destroy.
MacGyverovich: You want a pennant, and an IED? I don't think so, since we might lose it when, i mean if, you blow up accidently
GM: Although it is not clear from the map the PCs have, so the players know, each hex counts as "6" for purposes of range and movement.
Ivan: Taunt [1d6 = 8]
Ivan: RAR! IM MAN ENOUGH FOR THAT MUCH FIREPOWER!
MacGyverovich: Smarts [1d10 = 4]
Stefan Vasilev: Smarts [1d4 = 2]
Ivan: Settles down
MacGyverovich: I still say 'no'. Get over it.
Ivan: Ahem =)
Ivan: Persuasion on MacGyverovich
Ivan: Agility [1d6 = 9]
MacGyverovich: Spirit [1d6 = 9]
GM: So this will also count as the combat map when the time comes.
MacGyverovich: Keeps the pennant, though commends him on his effort
GM: So what is the plan? Time is wasting and you do not want Comrade Stalin to think you are cowards!
Ivan: A coward I am not! TO THE KILLING FIELDS!
Dmitri: Well, let's go in
Dmitri: where to first?
As if to punctuate that comment by the GM, he decides to start having the 88s shoot at the house the squad is in.
MacGyverovich: Well, I'll let you guys decide. Use a larger force to take one out at a time, or split into groups and take them out together?
Oleg: ACK! Where is Boris to yell "incoming" one round before the shells arrive?
GM: He's dead, get over it.
Stefan Vasilev: Poor Boris
Ivan: PLANNING IS FOR KRAUTS!
MacGyverovich: Let's decide on the way!
Ivan: RAWR! Just follow your ears!
Dmitri: GOGOGO
MacGyverovich: Runs toward the west, leading the redshirts along the way
Dmitri: Follows
Dmitri: Agility [1d12 = 8]
Stefan Vasilev: Move it Comrades
Ivan: Notice [1d4 = 3]
Soviet Infantry: (mindlessly follows like a group of soon to be dead lemmings)
Dmitri: Notice [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 5]
Ivan: Go go go! (check is for anything id notuice on the way)
Alexei: Does you wants me to bring the big gun?
Kazemi (Dmitri): remember, keep 2" between each of our guys so that the blast templates won't cover as many
Oleg: Yes Alexei, bring the DP1928 machine gun.
MacGyverovich: Yes, Alexei. Oleg will help carry it
Ivan: =]
Tack (Ivan): Ok i take top lane with Stefan
Dmitri: Stealth [1d6 = 5]
Kazemi (Dmitri): While I'm running, of course
Stefan Vasilev: Stealth [1d10 = 12]
MacGyverovich: Gives Stefan one pennant
Dmitri: Here's the deal, comrades, if either Stefan or myself falls, you have to take the IED and Penant over to the target locatoin.
DeadByte (Stefan Vasilev): Dimtri you have the IED right?
Kazemi (Dmitri): Yes, yes I do
[w] MacGyverovich -> Stefan Vasilev: Vasilev what the hell is your trademark weapon?
Kazemi (Dmitri): I also have 12 AGI and 5 Bennies, which may all be used to prevent me from killing us all
Tack (Ivan): lets go!
Pavel: I'm too young to die!
Oleg: But everyone wants you to!
[w] Stefan Vasilev: MacGyerovich the Mosin Nagant
Ivan: DUTY! RUSSIA! HISTORY! THIS IS OUR LAND! RWAR!
Ivan: And maybe some of that socalism the commissar was talking about!
Stefan Vasilev: While Ivan is screaming and attracting attention I direct my units to the south
Dmitri: Let's get going
The terrain is as shown on the map. There is a frozen stream that the squad is moving across. To the south of that where Stefan is are a series of trenches. There is some discarded equipment and about a dozen dead soldiers in the trenches.
GM: Both the trenches and the stream count as difficult terrain while crossing.
Kazemi (Dmitri): do the trenches run North-South or East-West?
GM: North-South
Dmitri: head through the trenches. Keep you heads down
Tack (Ivan): Why would trenches run E-W when the front is a massive W-E battle?
GM: Notice checks as you enter the trenches, for anyone entering them.
Stefan Vasilev: I roll a notice to try to loot the trenches [1d6 = 6]
Dmitri: Notice [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 11]
Kazemi (Dmitri): because there are idiot constructors and the front isn't flat, it's jaggedy
Nick (MacGyverovich): afk
As you get into the trenches, you notice that the one soldier in the group who is leaning up against the trench and using it as a defensive position is not dead, just being very still.
Andrej Movenchkin: Hello comrade, I am not dead yet, so no use in looting my corpse.
Tack (Ivan): OH MY GOD! YOU FOUND OUR RAID BOSS
Dmitri: Hey there! It's been a while.
DeadByte (Stefan Vasilev): do we know him?
Kazemi (Dmitri): you don't
Dmitri: Care to join us in an artillery killing escapade?
Andrej Movenchkin: How many did you bring with you? I have been watching the Nazis through my scope. There are about 45 of them. They have two MG-42s setup to provide enfilade fire from the bunkers in front of the 88s.
Andrej Movenchkin: The Captain leading them is very skilled. He knows how to direct soldiers and call in artillery. Hopefully Ivan and Mac have not been spotted already.
Dmitri: We've got 8 of us, plus an IED and a pennant
MacGyverovich: Well, let's move out, men. Unless you want to wait til the river thaws
Dmitri: yeah, and then their group
Dmitri: They've got 8 as well
Andrej Movenchkin: I see, Well, I hope you have a good plan before you begin rushing forward at them.
Round 1
The deck has been shuffled.
Dealing cards...
Kazemi (Dmitri): How far north and south does this group run?
Andrej Movenchkin: I am going to head south and see if it is possible to flank them.
Stefan Vasilev
Dmitri: That was what I was thinking
Dmitri: That's our best bet here
Nazi Infantry: Nazi Infantry: Notice [1d6 = 5]

[w] Dmitri -> Stefan Vasilev: Vasilev NO WAY, we want to flank with the super-soldier. We want to combat as few as possible, and hitting the bototm prevents the middle guys from trying to get us
MacGyverovich: Kn German
MacGyverovich
MacGyverovich: K (Machines) [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 3]
[w] Stefan Vasilev -> Dmitri: I figure Ivan will provide distraction

Stefan Vasilev
Stefan Vasilev: Stealth [1d6 = 5]
MacGyverovich: That building?
[w] Dmitri -> Stefan Vasilev: Vasilev only for a round or two
Alexei: No, that one with the white arrow pointing at it
[w] Stefan Vasilev -> Dmitri: and we have the scrubs to provide a distraction
[w] Dmitri -> Stefan Vasilev: Vasilev they have 1 hit point
Dmitri
[w] Stefan Vasilev -> Dmitri: yea... and we have 4 of them
MacGyverovich: I think we should try to get a little closer first, but go ahead. Suppressive fire would be helpful
Dmitri: Stealth [1d4 = 14]
[w] Stefan Vasilev -> Dmitri: 4 = 1 per round
Nazi Infantry: Feuer!
Nazi Infantry: Fur Der Fuhrer!
[w] Dmitri -> Stefan Vasilev: Vasilev assuming there's only one shot per round, yes. There's 40 of them
An incredible amount of firepower gets unleashed in the general direction of the party and supporting Russians.
[w] Stefan Vasilev -> Dmitri: do we have grenades?
Nazi Infantry: [1d6 = 1]
[w] -> Stefan Vasilev: Vasilev Only if they are on your character sheet.
[w] Stefan Vasilev -> Dmitri: EEK A NAZI!
Nazi Wehrmacht Officer: Die Stuka kommit in zwei rounden.
[w] Dmitri -> Stefan Vasilev: Vasilev : I've got 1 RPG-43, with range 4/8/16 and 3D6 damage with AP10 and I have D12 Throwing
[w] MacGyverovich: What's the penalty for shooting at the Stuka w/ my bolt power?
[w] MacGyverovich: Or will it never be within 48 feet of me?
[w] -> MacGyverovich: Unless the pilot is a total idiot, you will never be in range.
[w] Stefan Vasilev -> Dmitri: I have nothing to throw with T.T
[w] Stefan Vasilev -> Dmitri: just a rifle
: Nazi Infantry: Shooting Aggregate Dice 4
There is a lot of taking cover, but no one is injured in this round.
Ivan
[w] Dmitri -> Stefan Vasilev: Vasilev : What, no arms?
[w] Stefan Vasilev -> Dmitri: just a Mosin
Ivan: Follow the green barrier down south until the bend
MacGyverovich

Dmitri
Dmitri: Stealth [1d4 = 6]
[w] MacGyverovich: Btw, if I buy a new power, who gets to choose what it is? My guess is you, since you picked the first 3
[w] -> MacGyverovich: You can suggest which one you would like, and if it is in the setting, you get that one. If it is not in the setting then I pick from a random table. Think of it as "Power Russian Roulette"
Kazemi (Dmitri): I'm just wandering down to that spot if I can
[w] MacGyverovich: Tack's vote was for invis, but I think TK would be much more useful
Ivan
Ivan: Shooting [1d6 = 5]
GM: That misses
Ivan: [1d6 = 3]
GM: And so does that
Ivan: [1d4 = 3]
GM: And that

MacGyverovich: Uber scrub [1d6 = 2]
Hapless Soviet Soldier #1 -> I like the gun shooting. It makes a nice smell.
Nazi Infantry: ACHTUNG!
Nazi Infantry: Shooting Aggregate Roll 5
GM: For the record, these Nazis are horrible.
GM: They really deserve to die and replaced with people who can roll above a 2 on a D6.
GM: Nazi Infantry: MG42 damage [2d8 = 8]
Hapless Soviet Soldier #3 -> ACK! I am dead.
Nazi Wehrmacht Officer: [1d6 = 7]
A large bomb descends from the Stuka and plows into the battlefield, leaving a giant crater.
Nazi Wehrmacht Officer: [5d10 = 38]
GM: Hmm....
GM: [1d10 = 1]
GM: Even in cover, that would be seven wounds on Mac, three wounds on Ivan, and the redshirts would vanish in a heatwave.
Tack (Ivan): La BOMBA!
GM: So let's go with the other option for the Stuka. I mean, why is it carrying anti-battleship ammunition around in Stalingrad anyway?
Nikolai: Sshhhtupid random thingy
Tack (Ivan): Yah, the germans aren't capable of making an error like that.
GM: Okay, we will use the normal anti-tank bomb.
GM: [5d8 = 27]
Tack (Ivan): Wheee!
GM: Ivan, roll Agility for Nikolai and Soviet #6. Mac needs an Agility check also
MacGyverovich: Agility [1d6 = 5]

The deck has been shuffled.
MacGyverovich
Alexei: HAHAHAHAHA!
MacGyverovich: Supp fire [1d6 = 2]
Well, he sprays a lot of ammunition all over the place, and gets nowhere. Then the machine gun barrel melts and jams entirely.

Round 7
Dealing cards...
MacGyverovich
The Stuka dives in for another round of shooting.
GM: [1d6 = 1]
But it seems that his attack goes off course and he misses the battlefield.
MacGyverovich: Smarts [1d6 = 3]
MacGyverovich is using a benny
Alexei: Hmm..gun not make shooty noises.
MacGyverovich: Smarts [1d6 = 11]
Mac decides to open the code book and actually look at the instructions for the pennants. It seems that he waves it above his head in a north-south pattern to indicate he needs fire support. Then he waves it in the direction he wants to go and the number of times he moves it in a tomahawk fashion indicates how far (in 10 meter increments) he wants the shells to land from his position.
He repeats this pattern until the artillery shells land where he wants them to.
Ivan
Ivan: Spirit [1d10 = 8]
Tack (Ivan): Note: Fantasy Grounds II is best viewed on dual wide screen monitors.
TADM: Yes.
Kazemi (Dmitri): Yeah, I'd agree with that
MacGyverovich: So if I move to where the arrow points, then I'd have to wave it 4 times or so?
GM: Yes
The Nazi Officer opens fire while Mac practices his speed reading.
Nazi Wehrmacht Officer: Alle personnen! Wir mussen die Russki Sorceror tot machen!
[w] MacGyverovich -> Stefan Vasilev: Vasilev Well, that means you know what to do on your turn, right?
All of the Nazis in the battle line direct every piece of ordinance that will reach to the trench where Mac is.
Nazi Wehrmacht Officer: Shooting [1] [1d6 = 4]
Nazi Wehrmacht Officer: Shooting [2] [1d6 = 1]
Nazi Wehrmacht Officer: Shooting [3] [1d6 = 13]
Nazi Wehrmacht Officer: Shooting [4] [1d6 = 5]
Nazi Wehrmacht Officer: MP40 damage [Raise] [3d6-1 = 14]
[w] Dmitri: is it possible to throw the bomb without having it explode in my hands?
GM: Mac is hit, shaken, and suffers a wound. (The Officer definitely ate his wheaties this morning.)
[w] -> Dmitri: Possibly, if you roll an 8+ on your agility check.
Dmitri
Dmitri: Agility [1d12 = 10]
Dmitri: Stealth [1d4 = 2]

Stefan Vasilev
Stefan Vasilev: Shooting [1d6 = 3]

Andrej Movenchkin: Cavalry Sabre damage [Raise] [3d8 = 13]
Andrej bursts forward with incredible speed and leaps into the bunker. His sword begins whirling and spinning. Limbs fly off in several directions. The Nazis all shout, there is gunfire. A few Nazis shoot each other trying to hit him.
GM: Ivan is jealous.

The Nazis pour ammunition into the bunker, including an artillery barrage from another location. When the explosions and smoke clear, not only have the Germans blown up the southern bunker, the 88mm, and every German near it, but they have also exposed a nice section of the Stalingrad sewer system.
DeadByte (Stefan Vasilev): Nice
Andrej is nowhere to be seen. But then, human remains of anything in that area are not really visible.
Nick (MacGyverovich): Not nice, cuz Andrej is dead. Unless he snuck into the sewer, since he seems to know them very well
GM: Maybe CSI can do some DNA testing?
DeadByte (Stefan Vasilev): Don't you know Sewers are the traditional escape route!

MacGyverovich: Mac aims for the IED Ivan was carrying
MacGyverovich: Psionics [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 4]
Mac summons forth a bolt of lightning. It strikes the IED that Ivan was carrying and causes it to explode. However, it seems the strain of bringing forth his mental powers leaves Mac drained.
Fortunately for Ivan, since he wisely put the IED down before he charged into the bunker, the explosion does not hurt him. It does make a rather nice explosion outside the bunker, throwing debris into the air.
All of the Germans in the area dive for cover, thinking that Russian artillery is incoming.
