A rush of fire passes over the group and would have singed the heck out of you if you weren't hiding under a blanket with Delia.
Delia: Whew, did everyone survive?
Slumbara: I don't know, Meltam doesn't look very good
Slumbara: But he didn't look great to begin with
Meltam Perandus bleeds on things
Delia: Well, you all have blood dripping from your orifices...
Slumbara: Not all my orifices
Delia: Meltalm has a lot more than others.
Slumbara: At least, I don't think so. Not this week anyways
You hear a loud reverberating thump and a low growl.
Volmalric: Is that the sound of its dying throes?
Slumbara: Slumbara is going to assume not
Delia: No, that would be the sound of it getting very angry and shifting into a different form.
Volmalric: How do we get it to shift into the "Dead" form?
Slumbara: sets Meltam down in the pit and leaps out of the pit with his sword and tuba
Delia: Not sure, I didn't get to that part of the book.
Slumbara: Read fast
Slumbara: Slumbara will buy some time
Slumbara charges the beast
Delia: Good luck brave Kushite!
Volmalric: Meltam, are you still alive?
Slumbara: Well it wouldn't work the other way. Slumbara cannot read and you would be eaten
Delia flips open a large book and begins reading an archaic launguage.
Meltam Perandus: I live only in a world of pain.
Slumbara: Melee 2EXP/2FOC Successes = 3 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 5]
The creature is a large viscous blobby thing, like an oil slick given life.
Slumbara: Broadsword: (Reach 2-Parry 1-UNB-5D): [7d6 = 26]
Slumbara: [1d6 = 6]
Volmalric: So do either of you kno what that thing is?
Slumbara hacks at the oil slick beast, chunks of it fly off and leave smouldering scars in the ground where they land.
They begin oozing back towards the main mass.
Meltam Perandus: Intelligence - 8 Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 17]
Volmalric: Linguistics 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 15]
Meltam Perandus Meltam tries to hear the subtlties of a long dead tongue, only to hear an accute ringing in his ears.
Meltalm looks over Delia's shoulder and determines that she is looking at a book, it has some sort of script in it. It was definitely handwritten. He briefly considers chewing on a page to see if it is written in blood.
Volmalric glances at the book as well, seeing little through his blood-hazed vision. He wipes his eyes instead to try and clear them
Volmalric: Alchemy 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 25]
Volmalric has some form of unidentified white powder that may or may not be crack coccaine
Kazemi (Volmalric): Wait, if I give Slumbara coccaine, will that help his combat prowess?
Delia begins chanting.
Abomination: Athletics + 3 Success Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 4]
Slumbara: Acrobatics Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 26]
Tack (Meltam Perandus): it'd be tu-bad
Slumbara gets absorbed into the strange creature, the oil slick overwhelming the Kushite warrior...
There is a whoosh noise and suddenly Slumbara is ejected from the beast, minus the tuba.
The creature seems distracted by the tuba, and is oozing around it. Why it would be so fascinated by the tuba is currently unknown.
Slumbara: Hey, give that back. That is Slumbara's tuba
Slumbara: You don't even have lungs, how are you going to play the tuba?
Slumbara charges the beast and dives into it to retrieve his tuba
Slumbara: Melee 2EXP/2FOC Successes = 2 Complications = 1 [2d20 = 21]
Slumbara: Broadsword: (Reach 2-Parry 1-UNB-5D): [7d6 = 27]
Slumbara: [1d6 = 2]
Slumbara cuts through the beast attempting to reach his tuba
Slumbara slashes through the oil creature with his newly found sword and it strikes the tuba. There is a sonorous echoing from the tuba and the oil recoils from the noise and backs away from Slumbara. However, it looks like Slumbara has permanently damaged the tuba to the point where it will no longer be musical!
Meltam Perandus: Sorcery 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 12]
Meltam Perandus: 'Rhiveth, do something'
Slumbara becomes enraged
Slumbara: Insight Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 10]
Volmalric: Okay, I'm going to go give Slumbara some backup here. As much as I can, at least
Meltam Perandus wonders if some miracle wherin the tar is throughly dessicated with cause this thing to petrify.
Volmalric takes his alchemical bag, climbing out of the hole and begins lobbing some of his vials and containers at the creature, opening the tops of them first and mixing them in pairs
Volmalric: Have at thee, foul beast!
Volmalric: Insight Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 13]
Volmalric hurls the white powder into the beast, hopefully to gum it up
Volmalric: Alchemy 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 17]
The white powder causes it to fizz and bubble, it begins smoking.
Delia continues to chant.
The creature rolls forward like a tide, heading towards Delia, as it seems to have identified her as a major threat.
Several prehensile tendrils of oil slither towards her, only to strike a blue shield that forms near her and recoil back.
Delia has sweat beading on her forehead. Clearly she is not multitasking well.
Slumbara is dissapointed that the prehensile tendrils aren't interested in him
Volmalric: Slumbara! The beast was intimidated by your spirit! You need to play your instrument to strike its evil at its core!
Slumbara: Yes, Slumbara will save the world with his powerful musical spirit
Meltam Perandus begins humming the theme from macross.
Slumbara picks up the tuba, runs after the beast, and bellows a (presumably horrible) note
Slumbara: Athletics 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 18]
Meltam Perandus: Melee 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 26]
Meltam Perandus: Mace: (Reach 2-Unb-Knockdown-Stun-Pierce 1-3D): [4d6 = 20]
The altar cracks from the impact of the mace and a bolt of lightning shoots UPWARD from it.
Volmalric removes his helm, pulling out an arrow and clanging at the demon to add to the cacaphony
The monster shudders and backs from Volmalric a little and Slumbara a lot - condensing into a tighter column of goo.
Slumbara: Yes, cower from Slumbara
The bolt of lightning arcs back down to the ground and strikes the creature, cuasing it to glow a bright greenish. Then it arcs over to Delia and dances around her deflective shield like thousand angry centipedes on a mirror.
Delia grimaces in pain.
Slumbara: Meltam, why did you shoot lightning at the nice lady?
Volmalric: Slumbara, keep playing!
Delia's shield shatters and a flood of blue energy sweeps over the field.
Delia drops back on her ass like she was just punched in the face.
Meltam Perandus: I...I just wanted to altar the situation...
Meltam Perandus is using a Hero Point
Meltam Perandus: Healing 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 6]
Kazemi (Volmalric): Better question: Is the altar still sparking and firing out electricity?
Slumbara: Athletics 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 2 Complications = 1 [2d20 = 22]
Slumbara pushes the altar towards the creature and it shifts and moves towards it, surprisingly easier to move than he expected. In fact, it is so easy that he falls into the pit next to the altar and is now 15' below the rest of the combat, and possibly with a twisted ankle!
Volmalric continues to aggressively play his cowb---helmet at the beast, keeping between it and the pit so that it can't get at his companions and so Delia can restart her chant
Volmalric: Meltam! Slumbara! I could use a hand! And more noise! And maybe some sort of sorcery to strike this thing down!
Slumbara: I threw the only hand I had into its mouth
Volmalric: You've got two more!
Slumbara: I will get one of Meltam's
Slumbara: I need mine
From the altar a spectral white figure rises. It has a strange reptilian head, four arms, and ends up standing about 12' tall.
Slumbara: For personal stuff
Meltam Perandus: Lore 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 19]
Scholar-King: My my, how the world has turned. But I feel my sometimes ally here, and I believe she owes me a favor. So what have you little people done now?
Slumbara: I think he means you Meltam
You notice the world around you seems to have stopped. You can count the drops of ooze on the creature, insects are frozen in place... you feel .. detached.
Meltam Perandus: I'm pretty sure he means Delia
Slumbara: I think he means you Meltam, he said "little people"
Slumbara: I am sure he doesn't mean Slumbara, he said "little people"
Meltam Perandus: oh, cool.!
Volmalric slowly stops banging his hemlet as he notices the ooze creature freese
Campaign saved.
