The walls flicker with odd shadows from the limited light you have here. You have come down the tunnel from the entrance at a slight incline, and reached a four way intersection, the other three paths lead down. Assuming you are coming from the "southern" entrance, the others lead in the cardinal directions. Scattered around the ground are the mangled remains of several of the strange short ape-like creatures like the ones you observed at the entrance. A blood-soaked, animalistic looking Sophie, reeking of grey lotus, has just walked in from the "eastern" entrance.
Volmalric: Ah, hello Sophie. I'm, uh, glad you're okay?
Volmalric is not sure if she is okay
Sophie is oozing a strange viscous substance from multiple cuts, you assume, based on past experience with her, Cilissa, and Bridgit, this is her blood. The ape creatures you have observed so far have had what you took for normal mammalian blood, at least, it was red and liquid in nature.
GM: The creatures actually look like orangutuans more than apes if you need a visual.
Sophie: Meh, I've been worse.
Rhotinia: Perhaps, but I would wager not by much
Rhotinia: How long have you been here?
Tilpi: It is very strange to see you here.
Sophie: No real idea. At a certain point grey lotus causes you to lose track of time.
Sophie sniffs at Tilpi.
Sophie: Hmm... I remember you, flower lady, who is nice.
Tilpi: Aww I'm happy!
Tilpi: Do you want some other herbal to soothe your cravings?
Volmalric: Where did you get all that grey lotus from?
Tilpi: I think you want to sit down and enjoy some tea, then tell us about how you arrived here.
Sophie: Nah, at this point I'm likely to drop over and go comatose as soon as the nerve deadening effects wear off.
Tilpi: Tilpi rolls a Counsel test:
Target: 13 Focus: 4 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 2 Momentum: 1 [1d20.10+1d20.9 = 19]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Sophie looks at Tilpi.
Sophie: I mean, sure, some grey lotus tea would be great.
Sophie looks at Volmalric.
Volmalric: Here, let's talk as we get some of those wounds treated, shall we?
Volmalric pulls out some of his first aid supplies
Tilpi: Tilpi rolls a Craft test:
Target: 13 Focus: 2 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 1 Successes: 1 Momentum: 0 [1d20.20+1d20.6 = 26]
You did succeed!
Sophie: Well, there was this really nice man, who dumped my sister and I in a field of it outside a crypt just before he jumped into rescue my mother. I kind of think he has no sense of smell from playing with lots of chemicals over the years. But I scooped it all up and devoured some, then loaded my pockets with it.
Rhotinia: Sophie dear, when we get out of here, we need to sit down and have a chat about impulse control
Rhotinia: Rhotinia rolls a Persuade test:
Target: 15 Focus: 3 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 1 Momentum: 0 [1d20.18+1d20.4 = 22]
You did succeed!
Rhotinia: Rhotinia rolls a Persuade test:
Target: 15 Focus: 3 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 1 Momentum: 0 [1d20.10+1d20.16 = 26]
You did succeed!
Sophie: I can control my impulses. Sometimes after really great sex I do not rip off the human's head. I have learned there is a better chance to have it a second time that way.
Tilpi is horrified
Rhotinia: Arguably, there is a 100% chance the first way if you're not too discerning...
Volmalric: That would kill the human, yes
Rhotinia: But there are some other ethical concerns there
Volmalric: Volmalric rolls a Healing test:
Target: 13 Focus: 3 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 1 Momentum: 0 [1d20.17+1d20.8 = 25]
You did succeed!
Sophie is clearly at some level of "berserk and stoned out of her mind" state. Somehow the group has triggered enough recognition that she did not immediately attack you.
Volmalric: ...Mitra's blessing, Sophie, I think we need to get you into a bed in civilization
Sophie: Is that an offer?
Volmalric: These are...these are wounds from the battle outside, so you can't have been fighting for too long
Volmalric: Do you recall going through the portal?
Tilpi: Okay, I have your tea almost ready dear, just let me make sure it tastes correctly.
Tilpi deeply imbibes some herbal concoction.
Sophie: Yep, I dropped through about five paces in the air and landed by a tuck and roll near a stream. I stopped and napped for a bit before being attacked by some Bat Demons that looked kind of like Meltam.
Tilpi: Yeah his imagination really takes flight eh?
Tilpi appears as if she has just taken Nyquill - extra drowsy formula.
Sophie: It does.
Volmalric: I think they were duplicated from another artificial dimension
Sophie: So, mom told me to come clear you a path for the three of you so you can go do some magic mumbo jumbo stuff, banish Thumocris, bring Rhiveth back, and mom, sis, and I can finally go home. She was kind of non-specific on the particulars though, so I decided I could take as much grey lotus as I wanted for as long as I wanted. Especially since she is not here to complain.
Sophie: And I figured it was okay to kill everything that I came across here that was likely to be hostile to super squishy and ineffectual combatants such as yourselves.
Tilpi: Have you ever <yawn> considered just taking a nap?
Tilpi: The world will still be here.......
Sophie: Naps are great, we should totally do that.
Sophie walks to the other three entrances and sniffs.
Tilpi spills tea on the floor and crumples into a cat lke position.
Sophie: I kind of smell ash and lava down that one.
Sophie points at the "western" facing of the tunnels.
Rhotinia: That is not good
Sophie: I think that means you should go through that one.
Sophie points at the "nothern" of the tunnels.
Rhotinia: Yes, "away from the lava " is my thinking as well
Sophie: Because Mom said the ritual spot was closer to the summit and away from the active parts.
Sophie staggers into a wall and looks at a claw mark on her arm. Begins licking the injury like a cat grooming itself.
Rhotinia attempts to pick Tilpi up onto her shoulders
Rhotinia: Rhotinia rolls an Athletics test:
Target: 10 Focus: 0 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 0 Momentum: 0 [1d20.13+1d20.14 = 27]
You did not succeed.
Rhotinia: We will have to drag her
Tilpi: Tilpi rolls a Resistance test:
Target: 9 Focus: 1 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 1 Successes: 0 Momentum: 0 [1d20.15+1d20.20 = 35]
You did not succeed.
Tilpi: Tilpi rolls an Insight test:

Tilpi Follows the group attentively.
Tilpi: Tilpi rolls a Healing test:
Target: 16 Focus: 2 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 2 Momentum: 1 [1d20.16+1d20.9 = 25]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Tilpi: why does it have to be so grey and sterile? No breeze, no aromas...
Volmalric: Let's bring her with us. Tilpi, do you have any experience in reconnaissance?
Rhotinia: Let's go, the sooner we are done here the better
Rhotinia: Rhotinia rolls a Stealth test:
Target: 7 Focus: 0 Difficulty: 3 Complications: 0 Successes: 0 Momentum: 0 [1d20.13+1d20.18 = 31]
You did not succeed.
Tilpi: I don't like to take things for granite, but this environment isn't much fun.
Volmalric helps carry Sophie
Sophie: I agree, the sooner we are done here.
Volmalric: Volmalric rolls an Athletics test:
Target: 9 Focus: 1 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 1 Successes: 0 Momentum: 0 [1d20.12+1d20.20 = 32]
You did not succeed.
Tack (Tilpi): MAGNETIC 20s!
Volmalric attempts to help move Sophie, succeeds in manhandling her and they fall over in a heap. Sophie begins giggling and "drawing" runic marks on his torso armor with her fingernails, which cut into the metal some.
Rhotinia: Ok, enough goofing off you two
Volmalric is glad he actually bought armor
Rhotinia: This is a life-or-death situation, it's time to get your damn heads in the game
Rhotinia: Rhotinia rolls a Persuade test:
Target: 15 Focus: 3 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 3 Momentum: 2 [1d20.1+1d20.13 = 14]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Sophie snaps to her feet.
Sophie: Yes sergeant major bitch-fest ma'am thing!
Tilpi: You have it, Rhotinia!
Rhotinia: My rank is Yuz-Bashi, but segeant major bitch is... acceptable
Volmalric mutters something about inconvenient sorcery
Sophie decapitates the dead orangutuan creatures and loops their heads together for use as a flail in order to "get their heads" into the game.
Tilpi grumbles about a bossy boss.
Rhotinia leads the way up the north passage
Rhotinia: Rhotinia rolls an Observation test:
Target: 9 Focus: 0 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 0 Momentum: 0 [1d20.11+1d20.15 = 26]
You did not succeed.
Sophie: All right Sergeant Major Bitch! Let's do this!
Sophie staggers into the wall next to the northern tunnel.
Sophie laughs and headbutts the wall.
Sophie follows along behind Rhotinia once she see where "Sergeant Major Bitch" is walking.
Volmalric: Sophie, do you know if the sorcerer can possess you?
Tilpi: I wish grey lotus would go extinct.
Volmalric: What we really need is a forward-thinking rehabilitation system implemented into the healthcare infrastructure to aid in the access of clean and safe materials, as well as ensuring those who partake always have the supported needed to quit
Tilpi: Wow. It looks like the king of Aquilonia needs to get you hired right away!
The tunnel levels out after a short distance, continues on around fifty paces, and then comes to a room excavated and very carefully carved into the volcano. There are glowing green lights pulsing from metal sconces placed at regular intervals. There is a stone door on the other side covered in very ornate silver runework.
Volmalric: Hmmm
Volmalric used a Fortune point to add a Natural 1 to their dice pool
Volmalric: Volmalric rolls a Lore test:
Target: 12 Focus: 2 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 3 Momentum: 2 [1d20.15+1d20.8 = 23]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Volmalric looks over the runes along the door
Sophie: I doubt it, Volmalric. I think my mind is currently relatively incomprehensible to most things.
Sophie: For instance, I am currently debating the possible outcomes from shoving coal into sergeant major bitch's ass. Would she later crap diamonds? And if she did, would the pain be worth the profit?
Volmalric: A debate best left for a more sober day, when we have coal available
Rhotinia: I can assure you that would not result in diamonds
Tilpi: Hrm. I have been having strange dreams lately. I wonder if I can make sense of this door.
Tilpi: Tilpi rolls an Insight test:
Target: 12 Focus: 1 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 2 Momentum: 1 [1d20.10+1d20.12 = 22]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Volmalric begins scribbling things down, making notes on the runes of the door
Tilpi: I fear no evil. I will open the door.
Volmalric: Probably a bad idea
Rhotinia: I am happy to give you a moment to read the door, but we came a long way to go in there and kick this undead sorcerer's ass
Rhotinia: So at some point, we have no choice but to open that door
Tilpi: I can't believe you think Im evil. Why, there's not a hint of malice in me. What do i have to fear from this door? why are you all so edgy?
Volmalric: Tilpi! Back away from the door
Volmalric: Do not touch it
Tilpi: It only wards against evil!
Volmalric: Yeah, it wards against evil in there
Rhotinia pulls Tilpi away from the door
Rhotinia: Rhotinia rolls an Athletics test:
Target: 10 Focus: 0 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 0 Momentum: 0 [1d20.12+1d20.14 = 26]
You did not succeed.
Volmalric: Are we sure this is the right door for us to go through?
Tilpi used a Fortune point to add a Natural 1 to their dice pool
Tilpi: Tilpi rolls an Athletics test:
Target: 7 Focus: 0 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 1 Successes: 2 Momentum: 1 [1d20.20+1d20.4 = 24]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Tack (Tilpi): ...magnetic 20s.
Tilpi Ignores the wisdom of Volmalric and the flailings of Rhotinia, and attempts to open the door...
Volmalric: You daft fool!
Volmalric: Volmalric rolls a Persuade test:
Target: 12 Focus: 2 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 2 Momentum: 1 [1d20.12+1d20.9 = 21]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Volmalric: Back off from the door before you get us all killed and let that sorcerer win
Rhotinia: Perhaps you could fill me in on why we shouldn't open the door?
Rhotinia: If Thumocris is in there, then that is where we must go.
Rhotinia: Your world of magic and warding and spells gives me a headache...
Volmalric: This door has been fantastically maintained. There's small offerings along the sides of the door, there and there. Whatever is inside is stuck inside
Volmalric: Those ape-like creatures were serving as guardians, keeping something within
Tilpi: Tilpi rolls a Discipline test:
Target: 8 Focus: 0 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 0 Momentum: 0 [1d20.17+1d20.18 = 35]
You did not succeed.
Volmalric: It's Lemurian, Atlantian, or some other similar construction. A sort of holy site
Tilpi: These poor dandelions need to be brought back to the soil!
Tilpi doesn't appear adventurous or even remotely interested in the door anymore.
Tilpi: You poor things. You don't deserve this horrible place!
Volmalric: I'm not sure if this is intended to keep things inside, or to keep things from getting in
Rhotinia: What age was Thumocris originally from?
Rhotinia: Do we know anything of his past?
Volmalric: Acheronian, I believe
Rhotinia: Well Rhiveth was Lemurian
Rhotinia: And this realm seems to be tied to her in some way
Rhotinia: Whatever is in there, I suspect she wanted us to find
Rhotinia: And we have come too far to turn back now
Rhotinia: Rhotinia rolls a Persuade test:
Target: 15 Focus: 3 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 4 Momentum: 3 [1d20.1+1d20.2 = 3]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Rhotinia: Make a big bomb first if it makes you feel better, but nothing you have said diminishes our need to follow this through
Tilpi: I believe you!
Sophie: Right, so maybe this is the point where I mention all these monkey people were originally Lemurian Royal Guard who have been cursed and devolved into ape creatures who worship the door but can't read anything on it? So they are guarding it against all interlopers who might invade the sanctity of the door.
Volmalric: Alas, bombs won't work all that well against the things we'll be fighting
Sophie: Well, except for the fact that I think I killed most of them so they didn't interfere with your efforts.
Sophie shrugs.
Rhotinia: But it will give you a quick death if the need should arise
Volmalric: Well, I suppose small blessings
Sophie: i'm sure a more diplomatic process might have worked, but you know, I don't do diplomacy and mom was not specific.
Rhotinia: Well for now, don't kill anything unless it tries to kill us first
Sophie: Yea Sergeant Major Bitch ma'am. Waiting for you to die before engaging in violence!
Rhotinia: Not quite what I said, but close enough
Tilpi: Why doesn't anyone here know sorcery?
Sophie: Because it does bad things to most humans?
Rhotinia draws her bow and makes sure her javelin is at easy reach before heading towards the door
Volmalric: Sophie, you may have to wait here
Volmalric: I'm not sure you can touch this without exploding
Sophie: Oohhh!
Tilpi gets out of the way.
Rhotinia opens the door (unless Volmalric or Tilpi have other preparations they want to complete first)
Volmalric hands out the gear to Rhotinia and Tilpi
Volmalric: Remember The Plan(tm)
Rhotinia nods
Rhotinia pushes the door and it opens to a soft and gentle touch, sliding back as if it is on rails before recessing into the walls. There is a blast of fragrant, wonderful air that smells of lilacs and roses.
Tilpi: Joy!!!
Rhotinia: Rhotinia rolls an Observation test:
Target: 9 Focus: 0 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 1 Momentum: 0 [1d20.15+1d20.5 = 20]
You did succeed!
Volmalric checks back the way they came, listening behind them
Volmalric: Volmalric rolls an Observation test:
Target: 9 Focus: 0 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 1 Momentum: 0 [1d20.13+1d20.9 = 22]
You did succeed!
Tilpi: Tilpi rolls an Observation test:
Target: 11 Focus: 1 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 0 Momentum: 0 [1d20.12+1d20.16 = 28]
You did not succeed.
Volmalric hears what sounds like bare feet coming down the hallway behind the group, it seems that a number of the small ape men are headed this way.
Rhotinia is not sure what manner of sorcery is involved in, "make volcano smell like Ophirean flower meadows and provide an incredible healing benefit", but the business opportunities here are amazing.
Volmalric: We've got guests incoming
The tunnel is also carved and excavated, inlaid tiles decorated with brightly colored flowers cover the floor, ceilings, and walls. The tiles give off a soft glow, providing a decent amount of light. There is no sign anyone has been here in a long time, a layer of volcanic ash covers the tiles, but not enough to prevent you from seeing the tilework or lighting.
Volmalric: Let's get moving, quickly
Volmalric: We should close the doors behind us
Rhotinia: If it comes to it, Sophie and I will hold them off and you carry on. You are the magic expert between us
Rhotinia: But for now, keep moving
Rhotinia gestures down the corridor
Tilpi: I agree
Volmalric leads the way into the hall, moving briskly and keeping his head on a swivel
Sophie: Ooh! I like this plan, fighting back to back against an endless horde to the bitter end. Oh wait, per your instructions I have to wait until you are dead before I can fight back.
Sophie looks perplexed.
Rhotinia: If I start shooting, feel free to start kiling
Volmalric: Nonlethal measures are also an option
Sophie: Yes Sergeant Major Bitch Ma'am!
Rhotinia: Volmalric, they are Lemurian. They have been dead for thousands of years.
Rhotinia Whatever they are now... I wouldn't not call it alive
Volmalric: For certain definitions of dead
Tilpi: Tilpi rolls a Discipline test:
Target: 8 Focus: 0 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 1 Momentum: 0 [1d20.17+1d20.4 = 21]
You did succeed!
Tilpi heads into the tunnel, overcome with the joy of beautiful floral scents. She seems to be getting slightly younger as creases and signs of concern vanish from her face.
You did not succeed.
Volmalric heads in second and is quite content with this decision.
Rhotinia stays close behind Volmalric and Tilip, keeping an eye on the corridor behind
Rhotinia: Rhotinia rolls an Observation test:
Target: 9 Focus: 0 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 1 Successes: 0 Momentum: 0 [1d20.14+1d20.20 = 34]
Rhotinia is distracted by the crushed remnants of a dandelion bouquet and feels intense sadness welling up inside her from a long forgotten bitter childhood memory and is grief stricken at how life turned out.
She walks into the tunnel with no ill effect, following Tilpi and Volmalric.
Sophie walks up to the entrance and stops like she hit a brick wall.
Sophie: Oh.
Sophie: Hmm...
Sophie touches invisible wall.
Sophie knocks on it.
Sophie: Hmm....
Tilpi: Interesting.
Volmalric: Well, I suppose it looks like the barrier is still partially in effect
Tilpi: But but but...
Sophie: Good luck in there!
Rhotinia: Good luck to you too
Tilpi: But but...
Tilpi: You...the ape men?
Sophie: No idea if the orangutuan people are still human enough to get through.
Tilpi: I mean I guess I fear more for them than you
Tilpi: But it still feels wrong
Sophie: Well, if you hear ape men coming down the hallway after you, assume there are a lot of them.
Sophie: Bye friends!
Rhotinia: Goodbye dear
Sophie waves gleefully and pulls a handful of grey lotus out of her pockets.
Rhotinia chokes back tears and turns back down the corridor
Sophie turns back down the hallway.
Sophie: All right! Let's do this!
Sophie charges back down the other direction.
