Volmalric: Is this safe and healthy to do?
Meltam: No.
Slumbara: What are you, OHSA?
Volmalric: I'm his doctor
Meltam: ....but still better than touching that book.
Volmalric: Arguably true
GM: OHSA -> Occupational Health and Safety Alchemist
Slumbara holds up an arrow and some rope
Slumbara: There are easier ways to get this without touching them
Meltam appears distressed and under strain
Rhiveth: Meltam has gone through great physical and mental troubles to bring me, and I am absorbing his life to stay here... what is happening?
Meltam: Here is the book you requested no?
Rhiveth looks around the area, pauses to contemplate the rotting corpse in the distance with the sputtering torch lying near it.
Rhiveth: Wait here.
Meltam: I fear if I touch it, then I will just become another failed Meltam in a long line that fell to the dark.
Slumbara: Ooh, "The Dark" is a good name for Slumbara
Slumbara: And yes, many Meltam's have fallen to Slumbara
Rhiveth floats through the doorway and over to the book lying under the creature's dessicated claw.
Meltam: You did me a favor there
Rhiveth makes a few gestures with her hands and the book slowly slides out from under the claw and up to her, it flips open and begins rotating through the pages.
As the pages spin, there is a reek of carrion and death that flows from the book, like an ill wind bearing a noxious pile of diseases.
Volmalric holds a cloth over his mouth
Meltam rolls a Resistance test:
Target: 10 Focus: 1 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 1 Successes: 1 Momentum: 0 [1d20.2+1d20.20 = 22]
You did succeed!
Volmalric: That does not bode well. Rhiveth, what is that book?
Rhiveth gestures for the book to close, floats back over to the group, with the book trailing along behind her.
Tack:
[1d20.11 = 11]
Slumbara: Slumbara has a theory
Slumbara: The book contains words
Slumbara: And if you go to school, you can read them
Volmalric: I don't think you can find that book in school
Slumbara: No, but if you do not go to school, then you cannot read it
Meltam looks to Rhiveth for approval.
Rhiveth: This is not what I was seeking, but it is something that should never see use again in this world. It is old, older than this age of the world, and penned thousands of years ago by a Thulian sorcerer.
Meltam: Well, that's still good news
Rhiveth: The creature here has likely been trapped in that holding circle longer than I have existed. I do feel a small twinge of pity for it.
Meltam: I do too, for it shared some of its memory with me.
Rhiveth: Really? I wondered if the entity I felt was its trapped spirit.
Slumbara: W
Rhiveth: I am not sure how benign or not it is. It was definitely used for evil purposes.
Slumbara: So where do we stand on the burning?
Volmalric: Is it the sort of thing that would be well freed?
Volmalric: It wishes us to burn its body
Slumbara: Volmalric was pretty adamant against, but Slumbara already threw a torch on it
Meltam: Let it burn, and let us be done with this place. Do you have any leads on Skelos' tome, that we may pursue it next?
Rhiveth: After having living enslaved for hundreds of years, I am rather opposed to keeping any creatures against their will, but I am not certain this one would be entirely safe to release. If burning it will send it back to where it came from, I think that is a good thing.
Rhiveth: The tome I seek is much newer than this, and in form, probably more of a large wrapped scroll than a bound book. It will be written in Acheronian, as it is not original, but a well created copy.
Slumbara: See Volmalric, everyone agrees we should burn it
Slumbara: So take out something that goes boom and hand it over
Volmalric: Fine, fine
Volmalric: But I insist we set it to burn and then leave post-haste
Rhiveth looks back at Meltam.
Meltam: Ah. Well we have lost our guide that knew its whereabouts, and are sorta disoriented after leaving the Scholar King's realm. Any informaiton you would have on it would be fantastic.
Volmalric: We should also make sure to better seal the doors behind us
Meltam: The runes are weakened, and with the release of [REDACTED], this place will serve no harm.
Rhiveth: Hmm...I suspect you will need to dig through the libraries, probably private ones of rich nobles who dabble in the dark arts.
Slumbara: If Volmalric wants to collapse the entrance so he can sleep better, Slumbara is OK with that
Meltam: Good enough!
Rhiveth: If I stay much longer, Meltam will probably provide sufficient kindling to ignite the corpse himself. Unless you have further need, I shall take this and depart.
Rhiveth looks down the hallway.
Volmalric: Thank you for the consul
Volmalric: We should come up with a better way to channel you next time for quick checks ike this
Rhiveth: Others are gathering that have taken an interest in this place, haste would be beneficial.
Meltam: Thank thee, Rhiveth. May we one day rid this world of such dangers completely.
Rhiveth smiles at Meltam.
Rhiveth: You did a good thing, but it's okay, we will not assume it is habit forming.
Meltam closes his eyes and concentrates.
Rhiveth vanishes.
Slumbara rolls an Observation test:
Target: 9 Focus: 1 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 2 Momentum: 1 [1d20.3+1d20.5 = 8]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Meltam vomits blood in the corner.
Meltam rolls a Discipline test:
Target: 9 Focus: 0 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 2 Momentum: 1 [1d20.2+1d20.8 = 10]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Meltam acts cool like this happens every day
Volmalric prepares some combustables and hands the first set of containers to Slumbara
Meltam: Well, there's no treasure, and we have a knocked out norseman at the entrance. Loot whatever we can and vamoose?
Volmalric: Okay, toss these into the room if you'd be so kind. Try to get the corpse evenly covered, so the marination is not lopsided
Slumbara throws the container at the torch
Slumbara rolls a Ranged test:
Target: 10 Focus: 1 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 0 Momentum: 0 [2d20.19 = 38]
You did not succeed.
Slumbara: Volmalric, can you whip up some smelling salts for Sigurd? We're about to have company
The ass of the creature is now completely saturated by the concoction, but the head is quite dry.
Asgrim grunts.
Volmalric glances at Sigurd's corpse
Volmalric: I do sing praise for smelling salts, but I think there are limits, Slumbara
Asgrim is still hog-tied and passed out.
Slumbara slaps Asgrim
Slumbara: No this one
Meltam begins to wonder at what could have been ancient in the time of Acheron.
Slumbara: wake him up, now that the ghost is gone he shouldn't be crazy anymore
Asgrim: What? Bitch, if you are going to wake me up like that, yank the wanker!
Volmalric: Oh! That would be Asgrim, and that request makes more sense
Slumbara: Maybe later
Volmalric: Good news and bad news, Asgrim
Slumbara: We'll fill you in later, but we're about to have company
Volmalric: Good news is that you're alive!
Slumbara unlties Asgrim
Asgrim: Freaking Valkyries always wanting to play sex-games when I'm sober.
Asgrim looks around.
Asgrim: Hmm... that seems to be good news, but I was having an enjoyable dream.
Volmalric looks at the creature's corpse
Volmalric: Oof
Volmalric: So, we gotta get the oil
Volmalric: To the torch
Volmalric: I'm out of flammibles, does anyone have a suggestion?
The torch is sputtering, all the oil is on the back end of the creature, and the flames are not burning in a way that makes Volmalric pleased with the outcome.
Slumbara takes a large black dick out of his bag and throws it at the creature
Meltam rolls an Observation test:
Target: 12 Focus: 3 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 2 Momentum: 1 [1d20.12+1d20.8 = 20]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Slumbara rolls a Ranged test:
Target: 10 Focus: 1 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 0 Momentum: 0 [1d20.11+1d20.19 = 30]
You did not succeed.
Meltam looks around for any signs of treasure.
Slumbara draws his sword
Volmalric: Do NOT carve anything out of the walls
Volmalric: Last thing we need is to find out its ex is also buried deeper under or something
The large black dick is now... sticking upright in the exposed ribcage of the creature. It looks really disturbing. Normal mortals would probably take a Discipline check here, for you three, this is like, "So, what's for lunch, because this is nothing unusual in our experience."
Slumbara: Volmalric, you told me that would explode
Volmalric: Did you pull the string?
Slumbara rolls a Ranged test:
Target: 10 Focus: 1 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 1 Momentum: 0 [1d20.18+1d20.2 = 20]
You did succeed!
Slumbara shoots the dick with an arrow
Volmalric rolls an Alchemy test:
Target: 13 Focus: 3 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 1 Momentum: 0 [1d20.13+1d20.16 = 29]
You did succeed!
The arrow hits the "grenade" and inexplicably explodes, which sends a shower of sparks at the torch, but most importantly at the oil. The creature erupts into a ball of fire and an acrid and horrific stench fills the chamber and flows towards you.
Meltam: Well, we should probably go before we inhale that smoke.
Slumbara: Ok, lets get the hell out of here. Asgurd with me, you two stay behind us
Meltam rolls an Acrobatics test:
Target: 11 Focus: 0 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 2 Momentum: 1 [1d20.4+1d20.6 = 10]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Slumbara leads the way
Disturbingly, you swear you can "see" the noxious cloud moving towards you, complete with decaying human heads screaming silently as they fly towards you.
Asgrim: I'm all in favor of "get out of here" as a plan!
Asgrim follows Slumbara.
Slumbara books it for the exit
Slumbara rolls an Athletics test:
Target: 14 Focus: 3 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 2 Momentum: 1 [1d20.12+1d20.4 = 16]

You succeeded and generated momentum!
Tack (Meltam): [R][R]
Tack (Meltam): [Z][Z]
Slumbara is the first to reach the top of the steps and the first barricaded door. There is a group of Messantian soldiers there, with a noblewoman behind them.
Tack (Meltam): It's not working, I pressed R or Z twice.
Noblewoman points at the group.
Noblewoman: There they ARE! Surrender you fiends!
Meltam rolls an Observation test:
Target: 12 Focus: 3 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 1 Successes: 2 Momentum: 1 [1d20.2+1d20.20 = 22]

Slumbara: We're busy
Slumbara: Out of the way lady
Slumbara rolls a Persuade test:
Target: 9 Focus: 1 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 2 Momentum: 1 [1d20.2+1d20.6 = 8]

Meltam rolls a Stealth test:
Target: 14 Focus: 2 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 1 Momentum: 0 [1d20.15+1d20.8 = 23]
You did succeed!
Volmalric: Start running, or do worse than die
Volmalric: Pretty sure whatever's down there is after us
The soldiers ready their weapons to attack the group.
Slumbara: Slumbara has killed bigger and stronger men that you for no reason other than because they were in my way
Meltam positions himself behind Slumbara - 'Action' hero
Noblewoman: Very well, we will arrest you once we leave the crypt you are looting.
Slumbara: Good idea
Noblewoman gestures and all the soldiers and here run back towards the entrance.
GM: (her)
Slumbara carries on out of the tomb
Slumbara rolls a Persuade test:
Target: 9 Focus: 1 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 1 Momentum: 0 [1d20.14+1d20.6 = 20]

Slumbara does damage with Intimidate:
Rolling 2d6 combat dice...

Slumbara lets out a battle cry and brandishes his sword violently

Volmalric used a Fortune point to add a Natural 1 to their dice pool

Slumbara rolls an Observation test:
Target: 9 Focus: 1 Difficulty: 2 Complications: 0 Successes: 0 Momentum: 0 [1d20.13 = 13]
You did not succeed.
The woman and her soldiers flee as fast as they can, the soldiers are even more "inspired" to run thanks to Slumbara's encouragement.
They head up the stairs ahead of you and out of the crypt.
Volmalric: Slumbara!
Volmalric: I can hear crossbows firing outside
Slumbara: Slumbara can kill men with crossbows, Slumbara cannot kill ominous black clouds
Volmalric: Dive to the left as we get out, but keep moving through the debris to get away from the cloud!
Volmalric rolls an Observation test:
Target: 9 Focus: 0 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 1 Successes: 1 Momentum: 0 [1d20.1+1d20.20 = 21]
You did succeed!
Slumbara rolls an Observation test:
Target: 9 Focus: 1 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 1 Successes: 1 Momentum: 0 [1d20.20+1d20.4 = 24]
You did succeed!
Meltam Looks at Volmalric and Slumbara with a grim expression.
Meltam: Go on ahead, I can stop this
Slumbara: Try not to get yourself killed
Slumbara: If anyone is going to kill you, it will be Slumbara
Meltam: Deal.
Meltam Hurries back into the depths of the tomb
Slumbara leads Asgrim and Volmalric out of the tomb
Meltam used a Fortune point to add a Natural 1 to their dice pool
Meltam rolls a Sorcery test:
Target: 13 Focus: 2 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 5 Momentum: 4 [1d20.1+1d20.10 = 11]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Tack (Meltam): 'It was either going to kill me outright, or be amazing'
Slumbara, Volmalric, and Asgrim run out of the tomb and immediately dive to the "left" and land on their faces. With no cover anywhere near them, and several Messantian soldiers with crossbows trained on them. It looks like the noblewoman and her escorts opted for the "straight ahead" approach and ended up turning into pincushions.
Asgrim: Given the large number of things pointed at us, I am 100% okay with the 'parley' option.
Volmalric (calls out): Don't stand directly in front of the door!
Slumbara: Get down, if Meltam fucks this up it might explode
Volmalric rolls an Insight test:
Target: 9 Focus: 0 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 1 Momentum: 0 [1d20.13+1d20.8 = 21]
You did succeed!
Slumbara rolls a Lore test:

You did not succeed.
Meltam rolls an Insight test:
Target: 11 Focus: 2 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 0 Momentum: 0 [1d20.12+1d20.18 = 30]
You did not succeed.
Slumbara: We haven't blown up yet, Meltam must be doing well
Slumbara stands back up
The tomb is... freakishly quiet and peaceful.
Volmalric: Or he got killed and death is slowly spreading throughout the area
Slumbara: Messantians, what brings you here
Slumbara: Also who are you?
Slumbara: Also lower your crossbows before I feed them to you
Volmalric dusts himself off, switching his place with Asgrim's so the Northman is closer to the door than he is (like a canary)
Cilissa: I am Cilissa Aqaurando, and you are bold tomb robbers to invade my family crypt, possibly under the employ of a miscreat like Shanla Petriry, then threaten me further.
Cilissa fires a hand crossbow bolt into the side of the dead noblewoman's head.
Volmalric: Is that the lady who tried to arrest us?
Cilissa: Yes.
Slumbara: I have never heard of Shana Petrify, and I have never heard of you
Volmalric gestured at the woman with the new head accessory
Cilissa: Oh dear, she suffered another injury trying to escape.
Slumbara: Asgurd here had a dream about a book or something
Cilissa: I see.
Slumbara: We came to help him find it, but a ghost took it instead
Slumbara: You can search my bags, you will find nothing taken from your precious tomb
Volmalric: There was another ghost in there with your family crest on it
Cilissa: Oh, really? The book in the tomb, after all these years, just vanished to a ghost?
Tack (Meltam): The party is rapidly becoming the library repo men.
Cilissa: Why should I believe tomb robbers?
Volmalric: Would you like to go down and check for yourself?
Slumbara opens his bags to reveal a collection of rotting human heads
Cilissa looks at Volmalric.
Slumbara rolls a Persuade test:
Target: 9 Focus: 1 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 0 Momentum: 0 [1d20.13+1d20.14 = 27]
You did not succeed.
Volmalric: Highly inadvisable, by the way, half the deeper wards are decayed
Cilissa: Yes, my great-great-great-(repeated many times)-grandfather endeavored to seal the demons within by repairing the wards. He failed.
Volmalric: I mean, the demon was still stuck down there, so partial success?
Cilissa: I would rather just fill the tomb with oil and ignite it, but I have not that authority in my family.
Slumbara: Well good news, we did that for you
Cilissa looks back at Slumbara.
Volmalric: I can provide advice for the best tunnel to collapse
Cilissa: Leave all your possessions to one side for inspection. I will send...
Meltam: ...you'll be happy to know, the only demon left in your family is you!
Meltam points dramatically at Cilissa!
Cilissa looks at Meltalm.
Volmalric: Are you suggesting she's possessed?
Cilissa: And you are?
Meltam used a Fortune point to add a Natural 1 to their dice pool
Meltam rolls a Society test:
Target: 11 Focus: 4 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 3 Momentum: 2 [1d20.16+1d20.6 = 22]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Meltam: I am Meltam, banisher of foul spirits. The curse of your family was mere legend and supersitition, perpetuated by your callous and pitiless pursuit of fame and mammon.
Meltam: You will immediately call for medics for the innocent you have maimed and cease all claim to this tomb.
Meltam looks sternly at Cilissa
Slumbara: Maybe slow your roll a little bit on the medics thing, I was also about to kill that lady
Meltam: Or dare you give life to the monster that _could be_ in there again?
Cilissa looks at Meltam.
Cilissa laughs.
Volmalric rolls a Lore test:
Target: 12 Focus: 2 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 2 Momentum: 1 [1d20.4+1d20.7 = 11]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Cilissa: As far as I can tell...
One of the injured Messantians on the ground groans.
Cilissa sighs.
Cilissa shoots him with a crossbow bolt.
Cilissa: Do not stop my monologuing.
Cilissa reloads.
Cilissa: The risk here is that you let something out with your tomb-robbing, prompted by a drunken, hallucinating Asgardian.
Slumbara: Well the risk for you is that you exhaust Slumbara's patience, and Slumbara breaks all your bones
Cilissa looks at Slumbara.
Slumbara: Slumbara has had a long day
Volmalric: I suspect that second risk is more immediate than the first
Slumbara: And wants to go to the inn, and drink mead
Cilissa: Hmm...
Slumbara: So you can come have a toast with me, or we can toast your defeat without you
Slumbara used a Fortune point to add a Natural 1 to their dice pool
Slumbara rolls a Persuade test:
Target: 9 Focus: 1 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 3 Momentum: 2 [1d20.18+1d20.7 = 25]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Cilissa throws back her head and laughs.
Volmalric: You call us tomb raiders, but we have taken nothing
Cilissa: Oh, good Kushite, I like your spirit.
Slumbara: You should see my spirit after 6 flagons of mead
Cilissa: Very well, I call a compromise, as I see no need to kill brigands such as yourselves. You may be useful.
Slumbara: Come, we can explain all to you over some ale and song
Slumbara: But first, Meltam what happened down there?
Cilissa: I shall go down and inspect the tomb. If I like what I see, then we shall drop our hostile pretenses and I shall be glad to drink you under the table, and pay the bar tab, regardless of who wins.
Cilissa: Wait here with the soldiers.
Slumbara: Well, if you're offering to pay the tab maybe wait a tick before heading down
Cilissa walks down the stairs.
Slumbara: In case it is still full of black death smoke
Cilissa seems unconcerned by such things.
Meltam: .....but she still murdered the other folks in cold blood?
Slumbara: I was about to do the same
Volmalric: Family rivalries
Slumbara: No point crying over spilled blood
Slumbara: We didn't know them
Meltam: Oh very well.
Slumbara: I mean, look at all these heads
Slumbara shows Meltam his bag of decaying human heads
Meltam: Yeah but those were mostly Picts
Asgrim (whispering): I've been in town long enough to know that is a woman you do not cross.
Slumbara: There's at least 1 aquilonian and 2 bossonians in here
Slumbara: And a bear
Slumbara rolls a Persuade test:
Target: 9 Focus: 1 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 1 Momentum: 0 [1d20.11+1d20.6 = 17]
You did succeed!
Volmalric reorganizes his gear as well, taking stock of what he has and making certain vials more easily accessible
Slumbara: and I have NO idea what this is
Meltam contemplates ridding a family of their curse and handing over the book, both for free, as sustainable business model.
Slumbara holds up a Ghoul Head
The soldiers do not seem very inclined to attack Slumbara. There seems to be some internal debate of whether they are more afraid of Slumbara or Cilissa.
Slumbara rolls an Observation test:
Target: 9 Focus: 1 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 0 Momentum: 0 [1d20.14+1d20.15 = 29]
You did not succeed.
Slumbara puts the severed heads away and loots the dead noblewoman
Volmalric: Hey! Do not cut off her head!
Slumbara: I wasn't planning on it
Volmalric: There's probably laws against that for noblewomen
Slumbara: unless you think someone would pay for it
Volmalric: Nope, just the opposite
Volmalric: They'd probably start harassing you
Slumbara: Then what good would it do me?
Slumbara determines the dead noblewoman was carrying some gold and jewelry, probably worth 1 Gold to the right buyers. Providing of course, he does not try selling to her kin.
Slumbara doesn't think the jewelry is worth the risk for its value and leaves her as is
Cilissa returns to the surface.
Cilissa: Well, that looks like a job well done.
Meltam rolls a Stealth test:
Target: 14 Focus: 2 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 1 Momentum: 0 [1d20.11+1d20.15 = 26]
You did succeed!
Cilissa: Excellent, did you have a place in mind for debauchery, dread Kushite and companions?
Slumbara: There was a good tavern in Messantia
Cilissa: Excellent, let us go check it out.
Slumbara: We almost got kicked out when Meltam mollested the serving girl, but Slumbara slapped him around a bit and sorted that out
Cilissa: I like your spirit!
Cilissa: Soldiers, you have the rest of the night off, go blow off steam at a brothel.
Guards: WOOHOOO!
Guards head out of the graveyard as fast as possible while the group, along with Asgrim and Cilissa gather up gear and proceed more cautiously.
Slumbara heads back into town to the Whisper Wood Inn with Cilissa
Feneril (Slumbara): AFK one sec, baby
Guards are found scattered around the entrance to the graveyard, just beyond the sight of the Messantian guard barracks posted near the entrance. The guards are quite dead, with looks of horror on their faces, none of them appear to have drawn their weapons, they just dropped where they were running.
Cilissa steps over the corpses.
Cilissa: So, this Whisper Wood Inn, I think I've heard of it?
Asgrim: I'm getting a very, "bad juju" is going on vibe, how about the rest of you?
Volmalric: Quite
Asgrim: I feel my life is getting much much shorter even being in the same area as the rest of you.
Meltam: You aren't wrong
Meltam: However, if you want your ticket to Valhalla stamped, we promise at least a OK death.
Cilissa: Which part of town is it in?
Asgrim: Well, I feel like I don't have to worry about not dying in battle.
Slumbara: Your friend was impaled by a spear, that is a warriors death for sure
Asgrim: Yeah, he looked gruesomely slaughtered, I will offer a prayer later, right now I'm about at the, "terrified beyond the capacity for rational thought" stage, which is probably better for my sanity.
Meltam: Go drink it off.
Asgrim: That helps with a great many things, I have found.
Slumbara: Cilissa, are you not concerned about all these dead guards of yours?
Cilissa: Oh, them? Nah.
Volmalric: Family secrets are taken seriously, it seems
Cilissa: Life is cheap.
Meltam rolls an Insight test:
Target: 11 Focus: 2 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 1 Momentum: 0 [1d20.16+1d20.4 = 20]
You did succeed!
Cilissa: Right, Aquilonian, who is a long ways from home and likely not mourned by anyone.
Slumbara: Ouch, burn
Slumbara offers Cilissa a fist bump
Cilissa fists bump back.
