Rhotinia: Odd view given that I wasn't even here
Sophie: Well, you know Cilissa, any port in a storm. I mean, I would not have expected you to swing every way, but you are a psychopath.
Cilissa: As soon as I can move again, I'm strangling you.
Sophie: Not if I kill you first.
Volmalric: No strangling in the med bay
Volmalric: Nor killing
Volmalric: Killing is the opposite of what we want here
Tilpi: Tilpi rolls a Counsel test:
Target: 13 Focus: 4 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 1 Momentum: 0 [1d20.18+1d20.6 = 24]
You did succeed!
Tilpi: Come now, if you want something to beat up, there's enough zombies for everyone out there. No need to make more dead, plenty to go around.
Rhotinia: Wise words from the pacifist, cookie-baker
Rhotinia: Now if you're quite finished, we have other priorities
Tilpi: Chips are for cookies, not for shoulders.
Sophie: She does have a good point.
Sophie looks at Tilpi.
Tilpi smirks then smiles.
Cilissa: Yeah, I suppose we can kill all the ghouls and zombies, and then I can kill you.
Volmalric: Also, sisters shouldn't fight
Sophie: Wow, another fifteen years and we might upgrade to hugging it out with spike and poison covered armored suits.
Volmalric: If we trust Bridgit's motives, they'll be stuck like this fro the next few hours
Rhotinia: I lost Bridgit's trail just beyond the fence
Volmalric: I think we should go after her, but we'll need to leave these two here in the care of someone while we're gone
Rhotinia: Volmalric, can you make some concoction to make this faint blue trail more visible?
Rhotinia: Something that will react with the traces, and light up its path
Volmalric: Possibly, do you know what it is?
Rhotinia shows Volmalric the hand prints
Rhotinia: It is blue
Volmalric: Hmmm, how likely is it that she'd be touching things as she traveled?
Rhotinia shows Volmalric the faint droplets on the ground
Tilpi: Tilpi rolls a Counsel test:
Target: 13 Focus: 4 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 4 Momentum: 3 [2d20.1 = 2]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Volmalric: So, who here values their eyesight least?
Tilpi: SNAKE EYES
Cilissa: Sophie
Sophie: Cilissa
Volmalric: Who here, that can move, values their eyesight the least?
Volmalric: Because I can come up with something to catch the traces
Volmalric: But no promises that your vision survives in the long term
Rhotinia: I wouldn't be much of an archer if I were blind, I'll have to pass on that
Volmalric turns to Tilpi
Volmalric: Well, I had to live with one eye for several months anyways
Volmalric: Probably several months
Volmalric begins preparing something
Volmalric: Get your things together, we probably won't have long
Volmalric used a Fortune point to add a Natural 1 to their dice pool
Rhotinia nods
Volmalric: Volmalric rolls an Alchemy test:
Target: 14 Focus: 4 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 5 Momentum: 4 [1d20.1+1d20.12 = 13]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Volmalric holds a small vial of light blue fluid that seems to glow faintly when he shakes it
Volmalric: Okay, so here goes
Tilpi: Nostalgia is the only magic we need. May I suggest we go to the graveyard to find Brigit?
Volmalric looks up, raising the vial up and using a small squeegee to land a drop in one eye
Tilpi looks dismissive of Volmalric's alchemy.
Volmalric: We can, but we can follow the trail here
Volmalric: Follow me, let's hurry. She's got about 20min head start on us, I think
Rhotinia: lead the way
Volmalric leads the way, following the visible blue trail at first and then leading into the darkness
GM: Okay, so what are you doing with Sophie and Cilissa?
Rhotinia: Rhotinia rolls an Observation test:
Target: 9 Focus: 0 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 0 Momentum: 0 [1d20.13+1d20.14 = 27]
You did not succeed.
Volmalric: Volmalric rolls an Observation test:
Target: 9 Focus: 0 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 2 Momentum: 1 [1d20.7+1d20.9 = 16]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Volmalric: Asgrim, just the man I was looking for!
Volmalric waves at the northman, who is at the head of a group of soldiers along the barricades
Asgrim: Democles ran off past the barricade and a group of ghouls attacked us.
Volmalric: Where did Democles go?
Volmalric: Aw heck
Volmalric: Which way?
Asgrim points in a north-northwest direction.
Rhotinia: What could have possibly motivated him to leave the barricade?
Volmalric: Probably Bridgit
Volmalric: They went in the same direction
Rhotinia: Which way does that trail go Volmalric, same direction?
Volmalric: Exactly
Rhotinia: Very well, then we follow the trail, we find Democlese and Bridgit
Volmalric points in the direction of the trail
Rhotinia: Asgrim, come with us. We've not a moment to lose
Asgrim: Yes ma'am.
Rhotinia used a Fortune point to add a Natural 1 to their dice pool
Rhotinia points to a couple of the guards
Rhotinia: You, you with us. We have to save an attractive young woman from certain death
Rhotinia: Rhotinia rolls a Persuade test:
Target: 15 Focus: 3 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 4 Momentum: 3 [1d20.14+1d20.6 = 20]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Fifteen guards flock to Rhotinia's banner, eager to abandon their positions in search of attractive young women who need rescuing from their restrictive clothing.
Rhotinia has to decide exactly how much she wants to depopulate the soldiers manning the barricades here.
Rhotinia makes sure to leave enough soldiers to protect the barricade before setting out with Volmalric
Rhotinia, Asgrim, Volmalric, and 7 nondescript guys wearing red tabards head in the direction Volmalric indicates after he squints with one eye.
Rhotinia: Rhotinia rolls an Observation test:
Target: 9 Focus: 0 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 0 Momentum: 0 [1d20.11+1d20.18 = 29]
You did not succeed.
Rhotinia: Rhotinia rolls a Stealth test:
Target: 7 Focus: 0 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 0 Momentum: 0 [1d20.14+1d20.15 = 29]
You did not succeed.
Volmalric: Volmalric rolls a Stealth test:
Target: 8 Focus: 0 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 0 Momentum: 0 [1d20.12+1d20.18 = 30]
You did not succeed.
You travel a couple streets in that direction, then get stopped by the remains of a battle. It looks like several Messantian soldiers were fighting a group of ghouls when they were attacked from another direction by a group of zombies. Only two of the zombies were slain, and they were well armed compared to others.
Asgrim: It looks like the dead from tonight are swelling the enemy ranks, not a good sign.
The bodies on the ground twitch a little as Asgrim speaks. He chops off a few heads for good measure.
Rhotinia: We need to make haste
Rhotinia: Put a little spring in your step boys, this isn't a romantic moonlit walk
Volmalric: We've got to go fast
Volmalric: Both because of the twitching bodies and because we may wind up too late, I'm really worried about this
Tilpi: Tilpi rolls a Craft test:
Target: 13 Focus: 2 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 1 Momentum: 0 [1d20.15+1d20.8 = 23]
You did succeed!
The group heads a few more blocks over and spots a group of zombies coming down a connecting, perpendicular street. Unlike the milling hordes you have seen that have been fighting for most of the night, these are marching in formation and seem well organized.
Asgrim: That bodes poorly.
Red-Tabard Guy: Yeah, that is not what you like to see from your opponents.
Rhotinia: That is an understatment
Kazemi (Volmalric): How are they dressed/armored?
Asgrim: Well, we sure aren't going to be stealthy, so let's keep moving, the walls are up ahead and I think I see a breach we can go through, if it is not being held against us in some fashion.
Volmalric leads the way, pointing down the trail
Volmalric: Right over this way, then
The organized zombies are a mixture of various types of former people, so whatever controlling influence is handling the zombies is coordinating them to work together.
Volmalric: They are heading over towards the breach. But they're getting sparser
The group reaches the breached wall and the area reeks of sulfur and chlorine. It looks like something melted a crack in the wall and a lot of ghouls and zombies flooded into the city through it. You currently spot no one in the area, living or dead.
Tilpi: Tilpi rolls a Healing test:
Target: 16 Focus: 2 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 1 Momentum: 0 [1d20.19+1d20.3 = 22]
You did succeed!
Rhotinia: When we find Bridgit, she is going to have some serious explaining to do
Volmalric: If we find her
Rhotinia leads her horse through the breach
Tilpi: Tilpi rolls a Lore test:
Target: 15 Focus: 3 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 1 Momentum: 0 [1d20.19+1d20.7 = 26]
You did succeed!
Rhotinia: Where to next Volmalric? I don't want to tarry here any longer than needed
Volmalric: Up over this way
Rhotinia leads her horse through the breach and to the other side. It is now around 0300 in the morning. On exit from the city, you see signs of refugees in the distance huddled around fires away from the city. There is not much in the way of combat outside the city, but what there is seems to indicate the humans are losing the fight. You are not sure why the refugees are not being attacked, but it seems like once they get far enough from the city walls, the ghouls and zombies are not chasing them any further.
Volmalric: Hmmmm
Volmalric: This bodes poorly
Volmalric: Volmalric rolls a Lore test:
Target: 12 Focus: 2 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 3 Momentum: 2 [1d20.2+1d20.3 = 5]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Volmalric spots that the droplets move in the direction of a graveyard... but it is not the primary graveyard you are familiar with from before.
Volmalric: Hmm, a bit of a detour here
Rhotinia: Rhotinia rolls a Lore test:
Target: 8 Focus: 1 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 1 Successes: 0 Momentum: 0 [1d20.15+1d20.20 = 35]
You did not succeed.
Volmalric: Does anyone know what's in the side graveyard?
Rhotinia: Well, possibly Princess Rhiveth remains
Rhotinia: Democlese mentioned she may have been buried in an Acheronian graveyard near Messantia in Argos
Rhotinia: Although I Am not sure which side of the city we came out of
Volmalric blinks
Asgrim: Well, I'm not sure about the graveyard, but we are going to have a fight to get there. Something does not want us to get there.
Volmalric: I'm pretty sure we found Rhiveth's remains already
Volmalric: But I think something else is under the city as well
Asgrim gestures to a group of undead moving directly in front of you.
Rhotinia draws her bow
Rhotinia: When we find Bridgit, I am going to have words for her
Volmalric: Here you go, Rhotinia
Asgrim: When we find Bridgit, she might be fixing the situation or making it much worse.
Volmalric hands a pair of arrows to her, the heads replaced with a frame holding a red and a blue glass cannister
Volmalric: The red one explodes, very useful here
Volmalric: The blue one blinds, probably not useful here
Volmalric: It's a powder that blinds, not a flash
Volmalric: I had a third in the making, but I dropped it and had to ditch the vial out the window
Rhotinia nods and notches the red arrow
Red-Tabard Guy: Shiny, let's pummel the bad guys and save the damsels in the dresses.
Volmalric: Try to recover the arrows themselves if you can, they're sturdy. I can replace the cannisters later
Rhotinia used a Fortune point to add a Natural 1 to their dice pool
Rhotinia: Rhotinia rolls a Ranged test:
Target: 13 Focus: 3 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 5 Momentum: 4 [1d20.3+1d20.7 = 10]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Rhotinia unleashes Volmalric's exploding arrow into the crowd of zombies
Rhotinia: Rhotinia does damage with Exploding Arrow:
Rolling 5d6 combat dice...
Total: 5 Effects: 2 [1d60.1+1d60.2+1d60.3+2d60.5 = 16]
Rhotinia expertly shoots an explosive arrow into the mixture and it lands perfectly, then erupts into a ball of fire that tears out the center of the group and torches 6 of them before they can even respond. This does have the effect of making the Rhotinia the target of all the emnity of all the hostile forces in the area. The group is being charged by several different groups of zombies and ghouls now.
Red-Tabard Guy: Well men and boys, today is a good day to die.
Rhotinia: Uh oh, that is not according to plan
Volmalric: Well, that didn't go according to plan
Volmalric: Fall back and go around?
Asgrim: Right, let's go to Valhalla together!
Volmalric: If we can get them into a chokepoint, I have more explosives
Asgrim looks at Volmalric.
Asgrim: Do you want to get to the graveyard or not?
Rhotinia pulls Volmalric up onto her horse
Volmalric: That sounds like a trick question
Rhotinia: Punch a hole, I'll get him through
Asgrim: Right ma'am, see you in Valhalla!
Tilpi used a Fortune point to add a Natural 1 to their dice pool
Asgrim charges at the zombies.
Tilpi: Tilpi rolls an Animal Handling test:
Target: 12 Focus: 2 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 2 Momentum: 1 [1d20.13+1d20.19 = 32]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Rhotinia spurs on her horse
Red-Tabard Guy: For nookie!
Rhotinia: Rhotinia rolls an Animal Handling test:
Target: 14 Focus: 2 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 4 Momentum: 3 [1d20.1+1d20.19+1d20.2 = 22]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
The red-tabard guys and Asgrim punch a hole through the zombies (fortunately, the ones in the immediate path are distracted by being on fire and recently shot with an explosive arrow, so that part of the plan goes beautifully.
Rhotinia (with Volmalric behind her) gallops like a mad-woman to the gates of the graveyard, pushing through the few interlopers between them. As you reach the small rusted iron fence of the graveyard, you notice the creatures fall back from the area and stop pursuing you.
Rhotinia: Curious, Bridgit must know something about this graveyard that we do not
Rhotinia: Rhotinia rolls an Observation test:
Target: 9 Focus: 0 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 1 Momentum: 0 [1d20.19+1d20.2 = 21]
You did succeed!
Asgrim and the rest of the group with him are being swarmed, but Asgrim seems to hit on the idea of running towards the refugees in the distance and away from the graveyard and the city. You lose sight of them in the darkness, but the sounds of combat diminish and you optimistically hope it means they have fought their way free. (At least Asgrim, possibly.)
Volmalric: Volmalric rolls an Insight test:
Target: 9 Focus: 0 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 2 Momentum: 1 [1d20.3+1d20.7 = 10]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Rhotinia enters the graveyard and looks around for signs of Bridgit
Tack (Tilpi): (In before Star Trek, the ever optimistic vision of a future yet to come, produces a body count far exceeding Conan, an abysmally pessimistic vision of a past undreamed of)
You immediately notice the scent of lilacs and a feeling of calm pervade your body.
Rhotinia: Tilpi would probably like it here
Rhotinia: She loves flowers and crap
Rhotinia: Any sign of Bridgit?
Rhotinia: Or Democles?
Volmalric: Volmalric rolls an Alchemy test:
Target: 14 Focus: 4 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 1 Momentum: 0 [1d20.13+1d20.15 = 28]
You did succeed!
There is a sense of home, and safety, and peace. There is no sign any graves have been despoiled or any sort of danger. The graveyard is rather small, and mostly overgrown with wild plants and as Rhotinia noted, this is the kind of place Tilpi would love.
Volmalric: A couple drops in that direction
Volmalric: This definitely feels like Rhiveth's tomb, though
Volmalric: I do not like this
Rhotinia: I now regret that I gave Tilpi the tome for safe keeping
The graveyard is mostly small mausoleums which interfere with your line of sight, but the entire space is perhaps an acre in size.
Rhotinia and Volmalric walk towards the center of the graveyard, towards one building that seems slightly larger and more ornate than the others when they are confronted by a... somewhat unexpected... site.
Democles is kneeling on Cilissa's back with a knife to her head and staring at Bridgit, who is fearfully shivering before the door. Just as you walk around the corner he yells, "Idiot woman, you will open that door or I will cut off her head and throw it through the portal."
