Rhotinia: So Volmalric, what is this plan of yours
Volmalric: So, we have most of the materials to probably succeed in one of two things; we can either attempt to bind and capture the sorcerer, or attempt to summon Rhiveth more fully and allow her to take command
Volmalric: The former is one where we'll have to head back into the portal; we have until dawn to reach the volcano within, find the sorcerer, and bind him
Tilpi: That doesn't sound too fun.
Rhotinia: Also, doesn't sound like a plan. A plan would include some details on how you intend to bind him
Rhotinia: that sounds more like a hope
Rhotinia: or a prayer
Volmalric: The latter is one where we'll want to head into the city to find Asgrim and Cilissa, since they were likely finding the necessary materials to summon Rhiveth
Tilpi: Summon Rhiveth, see what she says.
Rhotinia: Agreed, but before we go, blow up this infernal portal
Tilpi: Not to be a nag, but they should be on their way soon.
Rhotinia: This is one thing Messantia doesn't need
Tilpi: We may need it though
Tilpi's Horse valiantly ROFLSTOMPS some foolish undead that get in its path, engages in unseen ninja-horse buttkicking of undead, blitzes through the streets of Messantia like a Bloodthirster of Khorne on Speed.
Volmalric: The plan for binding him involves impaling his current vessel with a pure blade and binding him with a pure chain bearing holy symbols while reciting the chant
Tilpi's Horse beelines for Cilissa, because, you know with 5 successes on Animal Handling, it is convinced all two legged creatures are inferior playthings it can destroy at will.
Volmalric: With minor modifications, I've never heard of the names invoked in here, so I have no idea what their holy symbols are. I presume Mitra or whoever the Messantians worship should work ajust as well
Rhotinia: A pure blade?
Tilpi's Horse rolled double complications on "do I understand what I have been asked to do".
Tilpi: Tilpi rolls a Lore test:
Target: 15 Focus: 3 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 2 Momentum: 1 [1d20.12+1d20.14 = 26]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Volmalric: A silver spear treated in holly or sage is mentioned, but the blue steel blade should suffice for that as well given the reaction it has towards the supernatural. In fact, it may work better.
Volmalric: This does require him to have an, ah, vessel, though
Tilpi: Trick him into possessing a chicken.
Volmalric: We could, alternatively, bind him within a vessel, but I do not think we have anything suited for it. A box, a vase, a jar. We would need to adorn it with holy symbols as well and force him within
Tilpi: That seems like delaying the problem.
Volmalric: I suppose a corpse would work as well, though we would want to change the holy symbols. A deity more associated with the dead would probably be better in that case
Volmalric: Oh, good point. A corpse might decay, though burying it in salt would probably leave him in both anguish and trapped for quite some time
Rhotinia: Well corpses aren't in any short supply these days
Volmalric: Unfortunately, I have no idea how to kill him. Rhiveth killed him once during this battle already
Rhotinia: Rhotinia rolls an Observation test:
Target: 9 Focus: 0 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 1 Momentum: 0 [1d20.16+1d20.8 = 24]
You did succeed!
Volmalric: She might not know how to kill him either, though banishing or binding him are good short-to-mid-term solutions
Volmalric: The pros of binding is that we know exactly where he is and what he's doing in the meantime. The cons of binding is that we know exactly where he is
Volmalric: The volcano might wind up killing him for good, though I would not want to wager that given it would involve losing the javelin we need
Rhotinia: Well if you want to go in there, we will need backup or it will be a short trip
Volmalric: Volmalric rolls a Lore test:
Target: 12 Focus: 2 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 0 Momentum: 0 [2d20.13 = 26]
You did not succeed.
Rhotinia: The man has a thing for skeletons
Rhotinia: By the dozen...
Tilpi: Probably couldn't afford a more fleshed out army.
Volmalric: You, captain! Do your men worship? We're in need of holy symbols.
Tilpi: Anyway, let's summon Rhiveth. We need someone to tend to Brigit.
As Rhotinia is looking around for something, she spots what looks like a pair of people running along the wall above the graveyard, headed towards the group. In her estimation, their current plan seems to involve running towards the graveyard and then leaping from the top of the wall and landing "as close as possible" to the graveyard... and probably turning themselves into putty on impact.
Inquisitor Captain Diogenes: Yes, the Inquisition soldiers all carry Mitran holy symbols, to drive out the unbelievers!
Kazemi (Volmalric): The horse is now an inquisitor
Rhotinia: Rhotinia rolls an Observation test:
Target: 9 Focus: 0 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 0 Momentum: 0 [1d20.14+1d20.18 = 32]
You did not succeed.
Rhotinia points at the two people on the wall
Tilpi: Um...If the holy symbols work, how come the city is gone?
Tilpi doesn't seem convinced.
Volmalric: Because the holy symbols are for unbelievers. The ghouls obviously believe
Bridgit begins twitching.
Volmalric: Duh
Tilpi: Tilpi rolls a Counsel test:
Target: 13 Focus: 4 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 2 Momentum: 1 [1d20.7+1d20.8 = 15]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Bridgit: Can she... not... eat so much at once....
Tilpi: You are a very silly man, Volmalric.
Rhotinia: Do those two people up on the wall look like Cilissa and Asgrim?
Rhotinia: I can't make them out
Volmalric: Volmalric rolls an Observation test:
Target: 9 Focus: 0 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 0 Momentum: 0 [1d20.17+1d20.18 = 35]
You did not succeed.
Volmalric: Yes
Volmalric: Who else would be running along the walls?
Tilpi's Horse appears behind the two people who are running along the wall, knocking aside creatures chasing them and kicking ghouls and skeletons off the walls.
Tilpi seems overjoyed her horse seems in good health.
Rhotinia jumps on her horse and rides to the wall, alongside the two figures
Rhotinia: Rhotinia rolls an Animal Handling test:
Target: 14 Focus: 2 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 3 Momentum: 2 [1d20.14+1d20.2 = 16]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Cilissa spots Rhotinia, grabs Asgrim, and hurls both of them off the wall.
Rhotinia: Jump on!
Tilpi's Horse jumps after them, heading straight for Rhotinia and her horse.
Rhotinia: Rhotinia rolls an Animal Handling test:
Target: 14 Focus: 2 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 2 Momentum: 1 [1d20.12+1d20.6 = 18]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Cilissa grabs Asgrim mid-air and throws him at Rhotinia, he manages to land across the back of the horse with a thud, on his stomach, and would vomit from the impact and the high likelihood that he broke a couple ribs on landing.
Cilissa lands the three-point superhero bomb, complete with sending a cloud of dust into the air.
Rhotinia: You're looking in good health
Tilpi's Horse lands on front hooves, cartwheels, does a pirouette off the back hooves, stands on hind legs, points at Cilissa, and seems to be challenging her to a dance-off.
Asgrim: Thanks... I'm feeling a little ragged and could use a beer.
Tilpi: Will a cookie do?
Cilissa stands up, sighs, dusts herself off, and walks away from the taunting horse.
Rhotinia: Well I meant her, but tf we survive this, I'll buy a brewery and hire you as a brewmaster
Tilpi's Horse neighs in a, "So I won this round, eh? Just going to walk away like a coward, two legs?" way.
Volmalric: Welcome back
Tilpi begins combing her horses mane with a golden comb.
Cilissa: Sophie and I came to an agreement. She's channeling injuries and pain to her and masking it all with grey lotus so I can save the world. Plus she gets to be stoned out of her mind for a few days.
Cilissa: How is mom...
Cilissa: Er... I mean... Bridgit?
Tilpi: Not great.
Asgrim: Also, she can take punches like a stone wall from some really nasty creatures.
Cilissa hands a bag full of stuff to Volmalric and goes to check on Bridgit.
Rhotinia: Volmalric, I suddenly feel better about your crazy suicide mission
Volmalric: Bridgit is channeling the grey lotus
Volmalric takes the bag of stuff and starts looking through the bag
Cilissa bends down next to Bridgit and cradles her close.
Cilissa: She will not survive this if we keep it up.
Cilissa rocks her back and forth like a mother soothing a child.
Rhotinia: Then we need to get a move on
Inquisitor Captain Diogenes: Okay... I didn't think she had a single maternal instinct in her body. This is actually weirding me out a bit.
Volmalric: We've got the necessary material in here for a summoning Rhiveth. She may be able to do something here about the ghouls surrounding the cemetary
Tilpi: What can we do to help?
Asgrim stretches a bit.
Asgrim: I'll help at the front gate.
Volmalric: Captain, do you have ropes or chains for binding purposes?
Asgrim heads off to join the fighting near the entrance to the graveyard.
Inquisitor Captain Diogenes: We might be able to find something.
Tilpi's Horse looks at Tilpi and graciously accepts the mane combing, then sprints back off into the distance, knocking aside any feeble attempts to interfere with its Divine Mission given to it by the Messenger of the Horse God, who just combed its hair, thereby providing it with huge Circumstantial bonuses to anything that involves, "slaughtering things while looking bad-ass."
Volmalric: Tilpi, where is your horse going?
Tilpi: I'm not sure.
Volmalric: Two horses would be very useful right about now
Tilpi: There's never been a day of my life when I wasnt' around horses, and this is new.
Tilpi: Then again, I suppose I haven't seen this many ghouls
Rhotinia: Well these are hardly ordinary times
Tilpi: They tend to have stable personalities. It is strange.
Inquisitor Captain Diogenes directs Volmalric to a shed where supplies like ropes and shovels may be found. Then he heads off in an entirely different direction to assist with defending one of the other entrances.
Volmalric takes the materials together
Volmalric: Tilpi, Rhotinia, I'm going to cleanse these before we go in. Can you find a suitable vessel to capture the sorcerer in if he does not have one yet?
Tilpi: Tilpi rolls a Survival test:
Target: 13 Focus: 2 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 2 Momentum: 1 [1d20.4+1d20.6 = 10]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Volmalric: One that is already adorned with his antithesis would be ideal
Tilpi: Eh? What's his antithesis?
Rhotinia: You said a corpse would work right?
Rhotinia: Plenty of those around
Rhotinia grabs a dead body and lashes it to her horse
Rhotinia looks for a dead inquisitor already wearing Mitran symbols
Rhotinia: Rhotinia rolls an Observation test:
Target: 9 Focus: 0 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 0 Momentum: 0 [1d20.10+1d20.12 = 22]
You did not succeed.
Volmalric: Okay, slightly different tract in that case
Volmalric used a Fortune point to add a Natural 1 to their dice pool
Volmalric: Volmalric rolls a Lore test:
Target: 12 Focus: 2 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 3 Momentum: 2 [1d20.19+1d20.8 = 27]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Volmalric cleans off the chains with a mixture of water, holly, and sprinkled jade
Volmalric: Volmalric rolls an Alchemy test:
Target: 14 Focus: 4 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 2 Momentum: 1 [1d20.17+1d20.2 = 19]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Tilpi finds nothing else useful to do but to start building a funeral pyre to keep the graveyard clean.
Rhotinia has located a few dead Inquisitors.
Tilpi: Tilpi rolls a Craft test:
Target: 13 Focus: 2 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 2 Momentum: 1 [1d20.6+1d20.9 = 15]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Cilissa: Tilpi, can you hold mom? There is something I need to do.
Bridgit seems to be mostly insensate.
Tilpi: Sure.
Tilpi: Tilpi rolls a Counsel test:
Target: 13 Focus: 4 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 3 Momentum: 2 [1d20.10+1d20.2 = 12]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Tilpi Comforts Bridgit.
Tilpi mulls to herself that there wouldn't even be a ghoul problem if these people properly disposed of their dead in the first place.
Tilpi: Tilpi rolls an Insight test:
Target: 12 Focus: 1 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 2 Momentum: 1 [1d20.12+1d20.7 = 19]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Volmalric: If you're going to burn bodies now, give me some of the ash
Cilissa hugs Bridgit and Tilpi.
Cilissa runs off back towards the city.
Volmalric swaps out the body Rhotinia found with a ghoul's body, due to it being probably a better fit for the sorcerer than an inquisitor
Tilpi: Tilpi rolls a Craft test:
Target: 13 Focus: 2 Difficulty: 1 Complications: 0 Successes: 2 Momentum: 1 [1d20.13+1d20.3 = 16]
You succeeded and generated momentum!
Volmalric marks the eyes, forehead, throat, heart, and gut with ashes, carving in the inverted star symbol he's seen paraded around on Thumocris and the Picts back up north onto the ghoul's forehead
Volmalric: Okay, we're ready to go
Volmalric: It's ideal to pull Thumocris in if he hasn't taken a body yet. If he has, we throw it and stab it and then bind his actual body
Volmalric: Once we have him bound, we can tattoo whatever body he has
Rhotinia: Ok, I still think we're probably going to die, but no one lives forever anyways
Volmalric: I've threaded the Mitran holy symbols through the rope, knotting them in place at regular intervals. They don't match, but they're at least all of the same religion and given with the blessings of believers
Volmalric: We should be good to head in here
Volmalric: Okay, so Rhotinia, we'll need you to land the blow on Thumocris
Rhotinia nods and pats on the javelin
Volmalric: Tilpi, I'll need you to chant this. It's gibberish to you, but I have the syllables stressed like this, so try and practice it in the meantime
GM: Meanwhile, somewhere in Ophir... "WTF? This is not what I meant when I said 'hookers and blow' are you all daft?"
Volmalric: Here's a bag of jade and salt, if we get him pinned down to a single spot, circle him with it to weaken his hold on things outside the circle
Volmalric: I'll funnel the actual binding and call upon Mitra for hopefully his blessing and binding with this
Tilpi: Well this is your show.
Kazemi (Volmalric): Until I get turned inside out, at which point it's your show
Rhotinia walks her horse through the portal and into the realm of death and shite
Tilpi Instinctively wants to stay with the wounded
Rhotinia and her horse enter and encounter no issues.
Volmalric enters after the pair, taking both his bag and the extra summoning bag with him
Bridgit pats Tilpi's hand.
Bridgit: It will be okay, go save the world.
Tilpi: Ok.
The group enters back into the Demi-plane of Ash.
