Kazuki: I'll onify you
Kuutai: So you admit you had dealings with this Dark Oni Lord?
Kazuki: Nope. All I have to do is make sure you're right next to its target
Kazuki: We'll be best of buds
Sensei: A student runs up and whispers something to Elder Tie. The old man excuses himself and heads off towards the entrance of the Academy.
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 13]
Ikuko: Streetwise {+10 Charisma, -2 Blind} [1d6+8 = 11]
Ikuko is using a benny
Ikuko: Streetwise {+10 Charisma, -2 Blind} [1d8+8 = 15]
Kazemi (Kazuki): I've gotten a lot of 13s this game...
TADM: It's because you can't draw DMH.
Sensei: Kazuki notices that Elder Tie is hurrying along rather quickly, much faster than a man his age is likely to move.
Kazuki: Smarts [1d6 = 7]
Sensei: Aside from that, everything seems perfectly normal at the Academy.
Kazuki does not chase after sneakily
Kuutai: Hrm. Sounds fun.
Kuutai Goes to the academy entrance.
Kazuki follows Kuutai
Kazuki keeps Kuutai between him and Tie
Kuutai: Notice (Battle Dammage -2) [1d6-2 = 9]
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 11]
Elder Tie is at the entrance, speaking with Shimizu Daichi in whispers. The other sutdents who were with Shimizu are heading back to their quarters, looking ashen-faced and horrified at what they saw.
Ikuko rejoins the rest of the group.
Sensei: Everyone is at the entrance.
Botan is off doing something else.
Elder Tie nods to Shimizu, who heads back into town without saying anything.
Elder Tie turns around.
Elder Tie: Ah yes, nothing to report. The corpses were all burned.
Kuutai: Really?
Sensei: Ah, yes, Hida is shooting the breeze with the chef.
Kazemi (Kazuki): it'll be a delicious breeze when they're done
Botan is hanging out with Hida and the Chef, getting tasty snacks.
Ikuko: Did they encounter any further difficulties?
Elder Tie: Nope.
Kuutai: I find that a little...counter to expectation, and a little...bizzare given your haste.
Elder Tie: They thought they spotted a couple kappa lurking around, but it is nothing to worry about.
Ikuko: Smarts [1d6 = 9]
Kuutai: Smarts (Neg 2 -2) [1d10-2 = 6]
Kazuki: Your students look like they'll need therapy and you seemed to rush down here rather quickly. I don't think spotting Kappa would do that
Elder Tie shrugs.
Kazuki: Something happened since this morning.
Kuutai: Yeah...seems like sort of a kappa-out going on here.
Kazuki tilts his head
Ikuko: Yes, a village was killed by an Oni lord that was sent to kill you
Elder Tie: Kappa attacks on our fishermen and farmers are dangerous.
Kazuki: No, the village was killed to bring the Oni lord. And we knew that already
Ikuko: perhaps you should be a little more remorseful and less suspcious of those who are risking their lives just being around you?
Ikuko: Persuasion {+10 Charisma, -2 Blind} [1d12+8 = 15]
Elder Tie: Well, I have things to attend to, I hope the rest of our day is peaceful.
Elder Tie walks down into Nihana.
Sensei: Notice checks
Ikuko: Notice {-6 Blind, -2 Unskilled} [1d6-8 = -5]
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6+2 = 9]
Kuutai: Notice (Battle Dammage -2) [1d10-2 = 3]
Sensei: Kuutai hears crickets.
Kuutai: I think we need to talk to Daichi.
Hida Sashimi: Notice [1d6 = 2]
Daichi: I'm right here, guarding her Ladyship. But thanks for asking. I think you are all trouble and will probably get me killed.
Kazuki: Does anybody else smell Sake?
Kuutai: Okay okay fine. We need to track those students, THEY will talk.
Kuutai: and no, I smell no Sake.

Savage Worlds Ruleset for Fantasy Grounds II
(c) 2009 Pinnacle Entertainment Group.
TADM: This first part of the session is written on the theory that Fen would be late. Woohoo!
Kazuki: Untrained {-2 Untrained} [1d6-2 = 3]
Kuutai: So....who wants to wrangle up some horses and supplies, so that we may meet this sage?
The group has been at the Sleeping Loon for about 4 days when you are asked to meet with Shimizu Daichi in his office.
Hida Sashimi: Streetwise {+2 Merchant (Buy/Sell)} [1d6+2 = 10]
Kuutai walks into the office
Kuutai: Greetings.
Shimizu Daichi: Hello.
Kazuki follows Kuutai. He seems to be a bit more battered than usual
Hida Sashimi enters the office after wheeling and dealing for said supplies and horses
Shimizu Daichi: I have an easy task for the three of you. Quite well suited to your talents I am sure.
Kuutai: I am...listening.
Kazuki: I like the sound of this already
Shimizu Daichi: I have a need for a collection of herbs and flowers in order to make an elixir. It is one that is of need to me, but may also be useful in the future for you...specifically, you might need it to save your lives.
Kazuki: Kn(Lore & Legends) {+1 Defining Interest} [1d6+1 = 9]
Shimizu Daichi: Now, I need the three of you because Kazuki will know what the ingredients are, given his recent training. Kuutai can make sure they are unspoiled by our lurking oni lord. Hida can verify the freshness.
Kazemi (Kazuki): Wow, that's oddly efficient use of PCs
TADM: Scary, isn't it?
Kuutai: I suppose the only anther you are looking for is, Yes, we will petal our services and find the flowers in question. Very well.
Shimizu Daichi: Once you have collected a basket of each, return here. The ingredients are: Moon Root, Creeping Vine, and Silver Crowns.
Kuutai looks compliant
Kazemi (Kazuki): lol anther. You drunk?
Kazemi (Kazuki): stealth pun ftl
TADM: Quest Accepted! Quest is worth 1 XP. Please pay your monthly bill again. Thank you, MMO Admins.
Kuutai: Have you...a map of where we may find these...botanical treasures?
Shimizu Daichi: No, but I imagine a little research in a library will tell you the most likely places they can be found.
Hida Sashimi: culinary uses of the three ingredients
Hida Sashimi: Food {+1 Def. Interest} [1d6+1 = 11]
Kazuki: Common Knowledge [1d6 = 4]
Quorteth (Kuutai): You could say Kazuki got pistil whipped on that last pun.....
Kazemi (Kazuki): Q.Q
Quorteth (Kuutai): or would that be a stamen of fact?
Sensei casts Lightning Bolt on Quorteth.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): No, Kazemi would have know that it was safer to leaf by now
Shimizu Daichi: That is all gentlemen, I hope you will return soon.
Kazemi (Kazuki): *Kazuki
Kuutai: To the Library! Mwhahaha!
Kazuki: Sounds like a good place to start
Kazuki: Untrained {-2 Untrained} [1d6-2 = 3]
Kazemi (Kazuki): Investigation!
Kuutai: Smarts [1d10 = 5]
Sensei: You arrive at the Library without incident. About fifteen steps from the library, a loud and annoying cricket begins tailing Kazuki.
Kuutai: Notice [1d10 = 4]
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [Critical failure!] [1d6+2 = 3]
Sensei: So I guess I should say....Kuutai and Hida arrive without Incident.
Kazemi (Kazuki): lol
Kazuki is completely unaffected by the cricket
Sensei: Kazuki thinks that Hida's stomach is making some weird rumble noises today...
Hida Sashimi: Notice [1d6 = 4]
Sensei: Kuutai and Hida notice a blue and black cricket following Kazuki.
Hida Sashimi: Unskilled {-2 Unskilled} (-2) [1d6-4 = 3]
Nick (Hida Sashimi): aww almost made it
Kuutai: NoSkill (Jimminy Crickets! -2) [1d4-2 = 0]
Kazemi (Kazuki): I got a 3 above
Kazuki: Are you OK, Hida? It sounds like you may have indigestion
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Apparently, the cricket is so good, it's distracting the GM as well
Hida quickly locates a book on the herbs in question, complete with pictures, despite the highly annoying cricket that drives everyone else out of the library.
Kuutai: Ah very good... I see your stomach guides thee well.
Kazuki: Although I think it's complaining from overuse
Kuutai: Spellcasting [1d10 = 8]
Sensei: Kazuki discovers that no matter how far he gets away from Hida, the noise of Hida's stomach follows him.
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 6]
Sensei: Then Kazuki spots the cricket, staring at him with malovent, hate-filled, human-looking eyes.
Sensei: Given that it is about 6" long, Kazuki is not quite sure how he didn't notice it before.
Kazuki: Hm..........Oni Lord?
Kuutai (Cricket): 'Ello cricket. How are thee?
Kazuki looks surprised at Kuutai's linguistic expertise
Kazuki: Is that where you learned your mystical arts? The creatures of the Wild taught them to you?
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Would explain the lack of people skills
Kuutai: 'ever fine gent knows how to talk cricket, my son! It's all about the right pitch!
Kuutai Make some chirps and clipping noises to the cricket
Sensei: Meanwhile, Hida also finds an awesome pocket-sized book of 101 great Sorimizan recipes.
Kuutai appears to bow deeply in the crickets presence.
Hida Sashimi copies down the recipes
Kazuki: Kn(Lore & Legends) {+1 Defining Interest} [1d4+1 = 3]
Sensei: Hida also marvels at Kuutai's sudden linguistic skills with small insects, but probably thinks it is normal.
Kazuki bows to the cricket as well
Kazuki: I appologize for not noticing you sooner, Cricket-chan
Sensei: Based on Kazuki's knowledge of Legends and Lore, he is quite convinced...this is an ONI-CRICKET!
Kazemi (Kazuki): but it's still a Cricket, and could've assassinated me about 15 times already. I'm not too worried.
Kuutai: Smarts (Defining Interest(Gods) +1) [1d6+1 = 6]
Kazuki: So, Kuutai, what did he say?
Nick (Hida Sashimi): If it kills you, can we call it a Croaket, or a Crickill?
Sensei: Also, Kazuki only has a 3 on his L&L roll, so he's probably clueless.
Kuutai emulates cricket noises in Kazuki's direction.
Kuutai: That's what he said.
Kazuki: Could you translate?
TADM: And Kuutai suddenly develops considerable knowledge of Kazuki's background...
Kazemi (Kazuki): Uh oh
Kuutai: In cricket terms, your one wicket dude.
Kuutai: =)
Kazuki: I hate you
The cricket looks bored and jumps out a window.
Quorteth (Kuutai): comitts seppuku from the terrible string of puns
Kazuki: Agility {+2 Acrobat} [1d8+2 = 22]
Kazuki follows
Hida Sashimi: Wow, you can even drive insects to seppuku. Great job, Kuutai
Kazuki leaps out the window after the cricket.
Kuutai: NOOOOOOO
Kuutai: CRICKET CHANNNN!!!!
Sensei: What would the rest of the group like to do...say, maybe go get plants?
Kazemi (Kazuki): what floor are we on?
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Sounds good
Kazemi (Kazuki): This might require some use of rope
Kazuki hits the ground with considerable grace and skill, managing to take no damage from his four foot drop. The cricket is hopping into the nearby bushes.
Kazemi (Kazuki): whew
Kuutai: Yeah...So...Hida. Let's turn over a new leaf and get to the fields. I trust your stomach knows the way to each spice?
Kazuki heads after Cricket-chan
Hida Sashimi: Great way to plant the landing, Kazuki
Hida Sashimi: I shall do my best, Kuutai
Kuutai: Kazuki, get over here
Sensei: Notice roll for Kazuki to find the cricket in the bushes.
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 5]
Kuutai: Stop chasing innocent crickets!
Sensei: The cricket vanishes from Kazuki's view.
Hida Sashimi: Yes, or else you'll make it hopping mad!
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Yes, I know, that pun was a bit of a leap for me
Kuutai cedes to the creatu....I mean the chefs authority and follows obeidiently
Kazuki: Gah! Where did you go, little guy! I'm trying to listen!
Kazuki: Persuasion [1d6 = 4]
Sensei: Okay, so Survival checks to find the plants, and what order are you looking for them in?
Quorteth (Kuutai): You are going for a no-hitter with that cricket....
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Wait, I have the best idea ever! Kuutai, tell the worst pun you can think of. The silence will be followed by hundreds of crickets. He'll never find it!
Kazuki gives up on his search for the cricket, for apparently it is not to be
Hida Sashimi: Unskilled {-2 Unskilled} [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6-2 = 2]
Sensei: Or just three Survival checks...
Hida Sashimi is using a benny
Kuutai: till it like it is! Which!
Kazuki: 404 {-2 Untrained} [1d4-2 = 4]
Hida Sashimi: Unskilled {-2 Unskilled} [1d4-2 = 1]
Kuutai: Survival [1d4 = 2]
Kazuki: Which one would be closest? Let's do that first
All right..Kazuki heads down to the docks, looks around for a little bit, walks about an hour upstream, and finds a nice collection of Moon Root growing in the water.
Sensei: Would Kuutai and Hida like to inspect it?
Kazuki: Ooh, check this out!
Kuutai: Notice [1d10 = 15]
Hida Sashimi: Notice [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 7]
Sensei: Kuutai notices that it is very fresh, good quality, and free of oni-taint. Hida likes the aromatic smell and long thick veins within the stalks, which indicate healthy plants.
Sensei: One plant down, two to go.
Kazuki: One point for Kazuki!
Kuutai: We gotta work Thyme and a half....
Kazuki: 404 {-2 Untrained} [1d4-2 = 1]
Kazemi (Kazuki): No points for the next hour, though
Kazuki pushes Kuutai into the river
Hida Sashimi: Unskilled {-2 Unskilled} [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6-2 = 0]
Kazuki: You needed the bath last week
Hida Sashimi: Unskilled {-2 Unskilled} [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6-2 = 6]
Kuutai: NoSkill [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 5]
Kazuki: Kuutai: 1
Nick (Hida Sashimi): I think the GM might be trying to fennel us into a certain area
Awesome, then in hour #2, Kuutai will find some Creeping Vine, and in hour #3, Hida will find the Silver Crowns.
Sensei: So now we just need some Notice/Cooking checks to determine overall quality and suitability.
Kazuki: 404 {-2 Untrained} [1d6-2 = 3]
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 7]
Kuutai: Notice [1d10 = 3]
Hida Sashimi: Food {+1 Def. Interest} [1d6+1 = 12]
Hida Sashimi: Food {+1 Def. Interest} [1d6+1 = 5]
Kuutai: Notice [1d10 = 8]
Sensei: All right then.
Kuutai: With fronds like these, anything is possible!
Hida is completely baffled how Creeping Vine could be considered a "good spice" as it is a long, worm-like brown plant that grows in refuse piles and looks rather like...crap. However, supposedly it is awesome if dried out and ground up.
Kuutai seems confident.
The Silver Crowns are a beautiful, sweet smelling flower found near Weeping Willow trees along the banks. Its stem is covered in a thick, sticky sap.
Sensei: Okay, who is picking the plants?
Sensei: As in, actually collecting them and putting them in the baskets?
Kazuki raises his hand
Hida Sashimi: The task, it is yours Kazuki
Sensei: Okay, one more Survival check.
Kazuki: 404 {-2 Untrained} [1d6-2 = 2]
Hida Sashimi: Unskilled {-2 Unskilled} [1d4-2 = 3]
Kuutai: Survival [1d6 = 8]
TADM: Well done Kuutai!
Kazuki is keeping the ingrediants separated
Just as Kazuki is about to start collecting the Silver Crowns, Kuutai remembers that the sap of the Silver Crowns is highly toxic to humans. He wisely points this out to Kazuki, who carefully harvests them without letting any sap touch his skin.
TADM: Saving Kazuki the Vigor check at -4.
Kazemi (Kazuki): Meh, I've had worse
Sensei: Do you take the plants back to Shimizu Daichi? It is now about mid-afternoon.
Hida Sashimi: Sounds wise. Freshness can be very key to potion making
Kuutai: We have the requested herbs. I suggest we hurry back, as they will not remain fresh forever.
Kazuki is keeping his basket covered and indiscript
Kazuki: Stealth [1d6 = 8]
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Are you becoming a basketcase?
It takes a couple hours to walk back, as you are quite a distance from Nihana by the time you find the last of the herbs, but you arrive without further incident and find Daichi in his office, working on some papers.
Shimizu Daichi: Ah, back already? Excellent.
Kuutai: I assure you, these are the finest this world has to offer, both in freshness and quality.
Kazuki: Yup, almost killed myself once, I got to knock Kuutai into a river, and we found a large blue and black cricket. In reverse order
Kazuki: The cricket ran away
Shimizu Daichi looks at Kazuki.
Shimizu Daichi: So, a normal day for you?
Kazuki: I'm 40% certain it wasn't an Oni Lord
Shimizu Daichi: That's good.
Hida Sashimi: Kazuki, you have clearly been around Kuutai too long
Kuutai shrugs.
Shimizu Daichi cleans off his desk and gets out a small burner, a couple mortar and pestles, and a small flat round stone with a piece of bright red amber in it.
Kuutai: Notice [1d10 = 7]
Hida Sashimi toward the stone
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 6]
Hida Sashimi: Notice [1d6 = 9]
Shimizu Daichi splits the herbs into three piles, one is very small and the other two are about equal size. He takes the Creeping Vine from the small pile and puts it on the stone, which begins glowing red. The Creeping Vine smells horrible but dries out quickly. While that is happening, he grinds the other two using the mortar and pestle. Once the Creeping Vine is dried out, he grinds that also, then tosses all three in a small pot of water that he puts on the burner.
Shimizu Daichi: Get all that?
Kuutai looks attentive
Shimizu Daichi: Once the water starts boiling, stir vigorously and count to 200.
Shimizu Daichi: Then the mixture can be drunk once it cools back to room temperature.
Kazuki: What's it do?
Sensei: Okay, anything specific with the Notice checks that was not already covered?
Kuutai: Spellcasting [1d10 = 8]
Shimizu Daichi: It is a powerful sedative, and also a hangover cure.
Shimizu Daichi: Now...
Shimizu Daichi stops as the door to his office bursts open.
Drunkard: Heysh!
Drunkard: Old buddy...
Kuutai: Notice [1d10 = 3]
Drunkard staggers into the room.
Hida Sashimi: Notice [1d6 = 5]
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 7]
Drunkard: You haz a high-class prostitute here...how much for her?
Quorteth (Kuutai): Does he have the Mon of the Ghost Dragon on his clothes?
Drunkard is indeed, the same Drunkard you saw in Ikusa Kokoro.
Shimizu Daichi: Lady Ikuko is not for sale.
Drunkard: That's not what she shaid last time...
Shimizu Daichi takes one of the piles of herbs that you collected and shoves it into a bag.
Drunkard: In fact...she'sh even got matching shocks onsh today.
Drunkard belches.
Drunkard: Someone shouldn't dressh her in orange and purple...my godsh...what a hideous combination.
Drunkard scratches crotch like he has fleas.
Kuutai checks to see what temperature the concoction is at....
Kazuki backs away
Sensei: It has just started boiling. Shimizu Daichi is stirring vigorously.
Kazemi (Kazuki): lol
Kuutai: Ugh....drunks.....
Shimizu Daichi while stirring with one hand, tosses the bag with half the collected herbs in it to the Drunkard.
Drunkard falls flat on his ass as the bag strikes him in the head.
Kuutai: Huh?
Drunkard: Heysh! What you'd do that fer?
Kuutai: Why...give those...to that?
Kazuki: To be quite honest, I think he'll need them more than we
Shimizu Daichi: Carry on, inebriate.
Drunkard takes bag and staggers out of the room.
Drunkard: Thanksh, can I haz another bag so I can put it over that high-class skanks head?
Kuutai: Wait, if we arent trying to help that guy....why are we brewin this?
Shimizu Daichi: No.
Drunkard disappears down the hallway with the bag.
Shimizu Daichi sighs.
Shimizu Daichi: 112...
Kuutai looks to Shimizu
Shimizu Daichi keeps stirring.
Shimizu Daichi: Oh, the sample? We are just brewing that so you can see the recipe.
Kuutai: Ah.
Hida Sashimi jots down recipe
Kazuki bows
Kazuki: Thank you for the lesson
Kuutai: Indeed.
Shimizu Daichi deposits the remaining collection of Moon Root, Silver Crowns, and Creeping Vine in a bag.
Shimizu Daichi hands the bag to Hida.
Shimizu Daichi: I trust you can take good care of the preparation and storage of these, with your culinary skills.
Shimizu Daichi pauses.
Shimizu Daichi: 186...
Kuutai waits
Mai walks into the room.
Kuutai: Greetings Mai.
Shimizu Daichi: Ah, excellent timing.
Mai: Yes, Sensei Daichi.
Hida Sashimi: Thank you, wise sir. I'm sure it will be most helpful
Shimizu Daichi gets to 200, pours out the mixture into a cup and hands it to Mai.
Shimizu Daichi: Dispose of this appropriately.
Mai: Yes Sensei.
Mai leaves quickly.
Kuutai: Huh? Why not feed it to that....drunken...?
Shimizu Daichi settles back down.
Shimizu Daichi: Oh, the drunken lout? I doubt a single serving will help him.
Kuutai: Hrm. Ok then.
Shimizu Daichi: And thank you for heading out and gathering all the ingredients so quickly.
Kazuki: Not a problem
Kuutai: I am humbed by the hospitatlity we have recieved here. Whatever thee require, do tell.
Shimizu Daichi: That reminds me, before Elder Tie and Botan left this morning, he asked me to give you something. Evidently he forgot to do this earlier.
Shimizu Daichi grabs the boxes and hands one to each of you.
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 5]
Kazemi (Kazuki): what's inside!
Kuutai's hands greedily open the box, propelled by curiousity
Kuutai: Notice [1d10 = 8]
Sensei: Kuutai notices that his box opens easily and is filled with 750 bu.
Hida Sashimi opens his with mild suspicion
Hida Sashimi: Notice [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 5]
Sensei: Hida notices that his box opens easily and is filled with 750 bu.
Sensei: Kazuki notices that his box is locked.
Kazuki: Aww man
Kazuki: Oh, well, entertainment for tonight
Kuutai: Locked?
Kuutai: HRM
Kazuki: Locks are like puzzles
Kazuki: It's like a toy that holds my stuff!
Kuutai: Me thinks you don't get any presents until you fix your mess. =)
Kuutai: Well...I am forever indebted. Although your library has made me richer than coin ever will. =)
Kazuki: Did you know that you can buy libraries?
Kuutai pauses. It appears as he is in deep thought after that revelation.
Kuutai: So....We should begin preparing for our journey....are there any other tasks were we may be of assistance before we depart?
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 18]
Shimizu Daichi: Not at this time, but I thank you for your assistance and your offer of further help.
Hida Sashimi adds the generous gift to his money pouch, and leaves the box
Shimizu Daichi: Well gentlemen, I need to be on my way, rest well and safe journeys.
Kazuki adds the money box to his pack
Kazemi (Kazuki): What's the weight?
Hida Sashimi: And you as well
Hida Sashimi: for a proper fairwell
Hida Sashimi: Etiquette {+1 Def. Interest} [1d6+1 = 5]
Sensei: Congratulations, you have all just gained 15 pounds worth of coins.
Sensei: Thanks for asking...adjust encumbrance accordingly. :)
Kazemi (Kazuki): ?!
Kazemi (Kazuki): How much does the box weigh (without the coins)?
Kuutai: I....Must part with this coin!
Kuutai: it is....too heavy!
Sensei: The box weighs 2 pounds, which I forgot to include. As coins weigh 50 per pound.
Kazemi (Kazuki): what coins are there in this and what is the weight of each of them?
Kuutai: Say Shimizu, you dont have a gift shoppe of the magical variety here at the academy, do you?
Kazemi (Kazuki): I'm going to need to get change
Shimizu Daichi: We have an apothecary who is quite skilled at herbal medicines. I am sure he might have something exotic for you.
Kuutai Lurches to the Apothecary.
Sensei: These are standard Iron Dynasty bu...they look like quarters with a hole in them.
Sensei: (See page 69 of the PDF for further details)
Hida Sashimi goes to the village to buy a high quality sushi knife, knife for trimming herbs, and perhaps some herb collecting gloves (if such things are available)
Kazemi (Kazuki): Hm, my external hard drive isn't showing up
Sensei: Okay, Kuutai has come up missing and when you see him again, he has no money left...
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6+2 = 5]
Nick (Hida Sashimi): How much would that all cost?
Sensei: Also, you hear rumors that all of the orphans in a nearby orphanage were "adopted" and were never seen again.
Kuutai Num num num
Sensei: Hida spends about 40 bu on good quality herb-collecting implements.
Kuutai: Well. Shall we depart tomorrow, friends?
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Just 40? Wow :(
Sensei: Well, I guess you could get a folded steel, ivory handled sushi knife that never needs sharpening...plus if you act now we will send you another 3 knives just like it...but this is the only knife you will ever need...anyway, it will be all yours for three easy payments of 30 bu each.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Sounds good
Kazemi (Kazuki): I would like one bamboo snorkle
Sensei: Okay...so let's get things moving forward and everyone can peruse the equipment list and just chat or message me what you want to buy and how much you are spending.
Kazuki heads off to his room for a while
Kazuki: Lockpicking {+2 Thief} [1d6+2 = 16]
Sensei: Kazuki picks the lock and finds lots of money inside, 748 bu to be exact.
Kazuki: The hell is this
Kazemi (Kazuki): is there a snorkle in there?
Kazemi (Kazuki): they cost 2 bu
Kazemi (Kazuki): it'd make up for it
Nick (Hida Sashimi): brb afk
Sensei: Nope, there is no snorkel in the there, but you hear loud cricket noises and then a bamboo snorkel comes flying through an open window.
Kuutai Heads to bed, Expects traveling tomorrow. Wishes Mai a great life Post-Graduation.
Mai thanks Kuutai, wishes him safe journeys, and tells him to not trust anyone whose name rhymes with, "Kazuki"
Kazemi (Kazuki): words don't rhyme with themselves
Hida Sashimi: Streetwise {+2 Merchant (Buy/Sell)} [1d6+2 = 7]
Hida Sashimi is using a benny
Hida Sashimi: Streetwise {+2 Merchant (Buy/Sell)} [1d6+2 = 7]
Hida Sashimi is using a benny
Hida Sashimi: Streetwise {+2 Merchant (Buy/Sell)} [1d8+2 = 7]
Kazemi (Kazuki): lololol
Kazemi (Kazuki): would you like a nom?
Hida Sashimi: Streetwise {+2 Merchant (Buy/Sell)} [1d6+2 = 13]
Nick (Hida Sashimi): F YOU PUNY MERCHANT!!
Sensei: Okay, the night passes uneventfully, unless player shenanigans ensue.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): So two good quality draft horses and a good wagon for...750?
TADM: Sounds fine to me Nick.
Sensei: The next morning dawns bright and clear. The students are out practicing their kata. The people of Nihana are out working in the rice fields or in the river fishing.
Kuutai: Well, looks like a peaceful day! Lets get moving!
Nick (Hida Sashimi): ...and then the oni attacked
Kuutai: Where is goldy locks and her entourage of people... I don't feel like walking.
Satsuki: Her ladyship is...indisposed at the moment and will catch up with you later. Also, did any of you see a "feminine hygiene products" shop in town?
Kazuki: Hey, Hida, that's a nice wagon ya got thar
Hida Sashimi: Thank you. It should make travel for myself much easier
Kazuki: It's next to the perfume shop in the eastern district
Satsuki: Thank you.
Satsuki bows and heads off to the appropriate shop.
TADM: I never realized how easy it is to account for female PCs who aren't here.
Kuutai: Hrm...
Kuutai: Notice [1d10 = 7]
Kuutai Looks for an occult shoppe.
Hida Sashimi: Notice [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 5]
Hida Sashimi looks for trouble
Sensei: Kuutai has no luck in locating a shop filled with occult stuff.
Sensei: Hida does not find "trouble" per se, but as he finishes loading the wagon and heads out of the Sleeping Loon, trouble finds him.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Uh oh
Specifically, he finds Chiri sitting by the side of the road, playing a flute. Her biwa is strapped on her back. She gives Hida a derisive sneer and begins walking next to the wagon.
Chiri slips flute into belt.
Chiri: Greetings, fat one.
Kuutai: Chiri! I had wondered where you had gotten off to!
Chiri: Kuutai, you reek of civilization....she believes someone washed your clothes. And they used Ikuko's soap.
Kuutai =*(
Kazuki: I pushed him in the river!
Chiri looks at Kazuki.
Hida Sashimi: I'm not fat, I'm festively plump
Kazemi (Kazuki): lol
Chiri: That makes sense, as she cannot easily differentiate between Ikuko's smell and that of Dokato urine.
Kazuki: I can...
Chiri looks at Hida.
Kuutai: Well...I don't blame you there....
Kazuki: No, you should blame yourself
Chiri: Also in the news, Ganso have determined that a new food source for the morbidly obese, is the non-morbidly obese.
Kuutai: Cute.
Chiri: So, in Botan's absence, what errand of stupidity prevails upon your collectively small consciousnesses now?
Kazemi (Kazuki): lol
Kuutai: Were off to see the SAGE
Kazuki: Someone summoned an Oni Lord
Chiri: She assumes that was you.
Kazuki: Me or Kuutai?
Kuutai: Infact, its sort of all the same. First we get some roots, herbs and stuff, and here we are looking for sage.....
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Given this group, the sage's name will be Herbert. Or "Herb" to his friends
Kuutai: That is acceptable.
Chiri: So, what Sage are you seeking?
Chiri: Or is this merely an attempt to find parsley, rosemary, and thyme's companion?
Kazuki: Already did that
Kuutai: Sanmiiru.
Chiri nods.
Chiri: She has heard of him, he is wise in the ways of Anoyo and the Void. As wise as mortals can be at least.
Kazuki: Now we get to find some awesome sage in the mountains and forests between here and Ikusa Kokoro
Chiri: She has reason to ask questions of him, so she will accompany you.
Kuutai: Well, we know he is in Sekisho directly, so not so much on the mountains.
Kazuki: True
Kazuki: You never know about hermits, though
Kuutai: Excellent.
Kazuki: or moving mountains
Kuutai: Do you know the way, Chiri?
Chiri: She knows how to get to Sekisho.
Kuutai: Excellent!
Kazemi (Kazuki): Do we have a wagon now?
Kazemi (Kazuki): with two horses?
Chiri: It will be fastest to travel by barge.
Chiri: Although whatever route the simpletons wish to take is fine with her.
Kazuki: can barges hold wagons?
Hida Sashimi: I hope so
Chiri: Can the heavens hold a bird?
Kuutai: Hrm.
Kazuki: Don't birds fly below the heavens?
Kuutai: I don't like the idea of water travel. But if it is faster, we have few hours to spare.
Kuutai shrugs
Kazuki: Wait, so is a barge some sort of flying machine?
Chiri: Then perhaps you have an answer.
Chiri heads down to the docks.
Chiri looks around for a suitable barge.
Kuutai: Notice [1d10 = 5]
Hida Sashimi: Streetwise {+2 Merchant (Buy/Sell)} [1d6+2 = 12]
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 4]
Sensei: No one spots an acceptable barge for river travel.
Kuutai: Uh...
Kuutai: Well that's no good.
Kazuki: What are we looking for?
Sensei: Hida asks a few locals and finds out that most barges pass by during mid-week, so it could be a couple days before another large river barge comes in.
Kazuki: Wouldn't we want to be on a hill if we were looking for flying machines?
Kuutai: Well thats dumb. We could just follow the northern coast, and then land at the port close to Sekisho
Kuutai: So we don't need a river barge?
Kuutai: Or is there some horrible sea monsters there?
Chiri: She is fine with whatever mode of travel you want.
Kazuki: Are there any rivers from the sea to the forest there?
Kuutai: well the river ends anyway - we are only getting 80% of it done by barge
Sensei: No one has heard of any sea monsters lurking on the northern coast of Sorimizu.
Kuutai: SO if there are no river barges, we should look for sea barges
Kazuki: Kn(Lore & Legends) {+1 Defining Interest} [1d4+1 = 4]
Hida Sashimi: Agreed
Chiri: She thinks if there is no Void mage, she would not look for one who claims to be one either.
Kuutai: Notice [1d10 = 9]
Kuutai Sea-faring barges
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 7]
Kazuki: All I see are boats
Kuutai: Hrm
Kuutai: I like that plan.
Hida Sashimi: Streetwise {+2 Merchant (Buy/Sell)} [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6+2 = 18]
Kazuki: I think we should take the wagon north to the coast and then get a trade ship to Kinzoku
Sensei: With Hida's Streetwise, he will even be able to locate one with space for the wagon and offering good rates.
TADM: Hida also doubles as a Priceline Negotiator.
Kuutai: Well, Im impressed.
Kuutai: Let me know how much I owr ya Hida, and let's get moving
Kazuki loads several large, wicker baskets into the wagon
It takes about a day to reach the coast, where numerous trade ships are transferring cargo to and getting goods from barges.
Sensei: Hida quickly locates a captain going to Kinzoku who agrees to transport everyone, the livestock, and the wagon for 100 bu.
Hida Sashimi puts in 25
Kuutai: Excellent. I pay my share as well.
Kuutai: Someone pilfer that Ka's coinpurse for the last 25
Kazuki: Stealth {+2 Thief} [1d8+2 = 4]
Kazuki puts forth 50. Also, he looks more battered than he did earlier, as if an angry samurai bashed him up after finding him sneaking around
Kuutai: Excellent work! Let us set sail!
Sensei: The captain happily takes your money, loads everything on the boat, and makes ready to cast off.
Kazuki (After we cast off): I hope we don't get attacked by Kappa again
The ship casts off and sails off to the east.
Chiri plays a haunting tune about all of the people on a boat being consumed by Kappa when they bring a man named Kazuki on-board.
Kazemi (Kazuki): lol
Kuutai: Notice [1d10 = 6]
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6+2 = 5]
Hida Sashimi: Notice [1d6 = 4]
Captain looks remarkably suspicious of Kazuki, especially when he starts sneaking around and poking his nose into things.
Captain contemplates throwing Kazuki overboard.
Kazuki waves to the captain
Kazemi (Kazuki): can kappa live in salt water?
Captain walks over to Hida, as in Ikuko's absence he is the most respectable looking of the group.
Sensei: Yes
Captain: Greetings sir, can you keep your geisha and servant under control? The geisha is disturbing everyone and I think your servant is acting very suspicious.
Hida Sashimi: I apologize for my...unusual companions
Kuutai tells a tale of how he almost singlehandedly slew a happy familiy of Kappa, if it werent for being backstabbed by a friendly extra
Hida Sashimi: She would be the worst geisha ever. She would never keep the secrets she was told
Hida Sashimi: Buy I will see what I can do
Chiri adds a musical background of tense fight scenes and poignant unrequited love to Kuutai's story.
Captain looks at Hida.
Captain: Thank you sir. Although if she is not a geisha, what is she? Your concubine perhaps?
Kuutai giggles
Kazuki chokes
Kazuki: Vigor [1d4 = 6]
Kazemi (Kazuki): awww, not sea-sick
Hida Sashimi: No. She is...I guess the best way to think of her is our pet
Captain: I see. I have heard of such things, where wealthy merchants keep slaves to amuse themselves. In what way does she amuse you? She does have a nice singing voice and plays expertly, but her choice of topics is rather disturbing.
Chiri sings about a ravenous oni who devours all the inhabitants of a village, but uses the tune from one of the popular love songs.
Captain: My point exactly.
Hida Sashimi: It's a long, complicated story. It is much better for your sanity if you do not know
Kuutai applauds
Hida Sashimi: Persuasion [Critical failure!] [1d6 = 1]
Hida Sashimi is using a benny
Hida Sashimi: Persuasion [Critical failure!] [1d6 = 1]
Kazemi (Kazuki): OH NO
Quorteth (Kuutai): 2x SNAAAAAKE EYES!
TADM: WOW
Kazuki: OH SHI---
Hida Sashimi is using a benny
Hida Sashimi: Persuasion [1d6 = 4]
Captain: Well, perhaps you are right about that. I defer to the wisdom of paying passengers.
Kuutai sulks in a corner of the boat to pass time.
Sensei: The boat sails along and is completely unmolested by dangerous sea animals the entire time. And just to cover that angle because someone will ask, yes, no hostile flying creatures capsize the boat and devour everyone either.
Chiri: Damn, she lost that bet.
Kuutai: What sort of friends were you counting on, Chiri? What terrorizes the seas or the skys since the transformation?
Kazuki: Kn(Lore & Legends) {+1 Defining Interest} [1d6+1 = 6]
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Yay! A voyage completed without plot hooks
Nick (Hida Sashimi): We even had NPCs fishing for them. But, it was just a fairy tail
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Beyond the scale of her heart, and now she's just a dum bass
Chiri: She was expecting a host of Waiivan to descend upon the boat, flense Kazuki, and then slow cook his living flesh over a fire made from the fat one's lard. Why do you ask?
Kuutai: Just curious!
Captain: I wasn't
Hida Sashimi: Me either
Kuutai: Awww...
Kazuki: I was going to say the same thing, but in my version Kuutai gets caught
Kuutai: I'm not the trouble magnet this time. ^^;
Kuutai: Why would they go for me?
Kazuki: Because you taste like KFC
Hida Sashimi: Oh please. He's not that bird brained
Kazuki: Actually, they're giant flying serpents
Kazuki: glistening black scales
The boat arrives in Kinzoku. Kinzoku is an...interesting...town. It is fairly large and bustling, perhaps the third largest settlement you have seen in Konoyo. All of the architecture and housing is very traditional. It looks like most of the homes have a small shop in the front of them. It looks like everyone in this town is a merchant who believes in the old way of doing business. There is not a single Ganso, factory, or technical gizmo in sight anywhere in town.
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 6]
Kuutai: I like this place.
Kazuki: Seems a bit....quiet
Kazuki: Too quiet
Hida Sashimi: As do I
Kuutai: Notice [1d10 = 13]
Hida Sashimi: Notice [1d6 = 3]
Hida smells an amazing collection of exquisite hand-made foods and sees people carefully preparing fish in a traditional way.
Kuutai Looks for a shop dealing in objects of power...
Hida Sashimi: I'm starving!
Hida Sashimi: Food {+1 Def. Interest} [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6+1 = 9]
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 4]
Sensei: Kuutai has no such luck in locating any items of power, but he does find a lot of traditional scrolls and hand written books that are masterfully illustrated.
Kazuki glances around at the area
Sensei: Hida finds possibly one of the most amazing restaurants, using traditional family cooking techniques dating back hundreds of years, that he has ever located. He starts salivating just from the smell as he walks near it.
Hida Sashimi: Streetwise {+2 Merchant (Buy/Sell)} [1d8+2 = 8]
Sensei: Kazuki sees a great many things that are...much like what he read in books about how things used to be done, but has never seen before.
Hida Sashimi: For the best food/lowest price ratio
Sensei: Hida locates a great restaurant that is inexpensive. He gets an "exotic high quality meal" for 7 bu, instead of the normal 20.
Hida Sashimi buys 2 meals, with a 1 bu tip
Hida Sashimi: Etiquette {+1 Def. Interest} [Critical failure!] [1d6+1 = 2]
Kazemi (Kazuki): Do you have bennies left?
Hida Sashimi trys to eat politely, but is too hungry
Hida Sashimi: NOM NOM NOM NOM CHUG CHUG NOM NOM NOM
Kazuki watches in horror as Sashimi accidently eats a small child that wanders too near
Kuutai Simularly devours words....trying to learn something....
Kuutai: Smarts [1d6 = 11]
Sensei: Hida causes people to feel revulsion and disgust at his behavior. The restaurant clears out and he believes he hears the waitress vomiting in the back after watching him eat.
Kazuki: Persuasion (Ettiquette) [1d4 = 2]
Hida Sashimi leaves and extra 2 bu tip for my rudeness
Kazuki is significantly better than Mr. Critical Failure
Hida Sashimi: I'm sorry. My hunger overwhelmed my manners
Hida Sashimi: Persuasion [1d6 = 5]
Sensei: Hida is...forgiven...provided he never comes back again.
Sensei: What would Kazuki like to do?
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6+2 = 6]
Kazuki is checking out the shops for interesting trinkets
Kuutai: Smarts [1d10 = 9]
Chiri walks along behind Kazuki, neither singing nor speaking, just looking...expressionless.
Kazuki buys Chiri some sake
Kazuki: You OK?
Chiri: She likes this place, so she prefers to not spoil it.
Chiri takes sake, drinks the entire thing in one gulp.
Chiri drops 10 bu near Kazuki.
Kuutai wanders to Kazuki and Chiri
Kuutai: Hey folks. What hath thee found most charming about this town?
Chiri: She thinks it is quiet here.
Hida Sashimi clears my table and apologizes again for my actions, then leaves
Kuutai: Kazuki?
Kuutai: Have any more insects or Oni in your fan club?
Kazuki: Check out these tops!
Kuutai: Notice [1d10 = 11]
Kazuki holds out some spinning tops
Kuutai looks intently at the tops
Sensei: Kazuki has located a nice collection of high quality wooden tops that spin and wobble for a long time, due to their high quality craftsmanship.
Kuutai: Hrm. Interesting.
Kuutai: I'd say don't toy with me, but....I dont even....
Kuutai: I cant top that.
Hida Sashimi: Yakuza {+1 Def. Interest} [Critical failure!] [1d6+1 = 2]
Kuutai: So....What say ye, lets find the creature and move on to Sekisho forest?
Hida Sashimi: Yakuza {+1 Def. Interest} [1d6+1 = 8]
Chiri: She is fine with whatever plan you have.
Chiri: At least, for the moment.
Sensei: So is the group heading off to Sekisho?
Kuutai: Sounds like it, if Hida is not currently in trouble and can make it back to the party
Kazuki: Sounds good
Kuutai: Notice [1d10 = 9]
Kuutai Looks for Hida
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 10]
Hida Sashimi joins the rest of the group
Kazuki: So, did you find anything neat?
Kazuki: at Kuutai
Hida Sashimi: We should be moving on.
Kuutai: Yes...I will share it with all concerned parties once we are....safer.
Kuutai: For now, we should.....not dawdle.
Chiri: She thinks this means you plan to carry it to your grave, as only the Void is safe.
Kazuki: Not even
Kuutai: Not unless there's an encounter right outside of this town, Chiri.
The group heads out of Kinzoku and makes good progress towards Sekisho. Around nightfall they come to a small farming village.
Hida Sashimi: Notice [1d6 = 8]
Kuutai: Spellcasting [1d6 = 10]
Sensei: Anything the group would like to do/discuss/get TPK'd by pissing off Chiri/etc.?
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 9]
Quorteth (Kuutai): Well, could I read from my books during the trip? Like Story Time Aloud?
Kazuki: Repair [1d6 = 2]
Sensei: In the intervening hours before arriving at the village.
Kazuki: Repair [1d6 = 8]
Kazemi (Kazuki): Nope, good to go
Hida Sashimi: That last village was controlled by a specific branch of the Yakuza, in case people were wondering why it was so...old school
TADM: Sure, you can read aloud for story time all you want.
Kazuki: They had some pretty neat stuff
Kazuki: Common Knowledge [1d6 = 9]
Kuutai: They kept order in the face of change. Cool People.
Kuutai: I found these books chronicling an ancient affair.
Kazuki: I'm rather impressed. They did a good job not looking like horrible cheating, murdering, raping bastards
Kazuki smiles as he says it
Chiri: Kazuki only thinks that way because he does not see how they were looking at him after he walked passed. She thinks she is safer in that village than he is.
Hida Sashimi: I hate to say this, but I agree with Chiri
Kuutai: Apparently, during the days of the Bright Empire, Otsu, a priestess of Amaterasu, battled against an ONI LORD....and sealed him into a bottle, which was then stored at temple in Tahata Gaki
Chiri stops to look at Kuutai.
Kazuki: Wait, really?
Kazuki: What kind of Oni Lord are we talkin' bout?
Chiri: What did you say?
Kazuki: Kn(Lore & Legends) {+1 Defining Interest} [1d4+1 = 4]
Kuutai: The ONI LORD.
Kazuki: THE oni lord? or A oni lord?
Kuutai: Oh fine. I exaggerated. Just an Oni Lord.
Kuutai: Hiranaki to be precise.
Kazuki: OK, I was going to say, I'm pretty sure the Oni Emperor didn't get stuck in a bottle
Kuutai: Ever heard that name?
Kazuki: Hiranaki, the Unforgiving
Chiri clenches hands into fists.
Chiri: Foolish stupid stories.
Hida Sashimi: Common Knowldge [1d6 = 5]
Kazuki: Even stupid stories have a grain of truth
Chiri: She thinks Kuutai believes everything in cheap fiction.
Kuutai: ...How do YOU know that Kazuki, and why so mad, Chiri?
Kazuki shrugs
Kazuki: Popped up around the house once or twice
Kazuki: the topic, I mean, not the Oni Lord himself
Kuutai: I'm not amused. Anyway, I'm curious if that bottle isnt what hatched our Oni Lord...
Chiri walks over next to Hida and begins speaking about good recipes for Sorimizan lizard meat.
Kazuki: I doubt it
Hida Sashimi: Food {+1 Def. Interest} [1d6+1 = 5]
Chiri: She wonders if you think a cross-grain fillet would work better for a lizard of this size?
Kuutai: Hrm....I wonder if theres some sort of network of those who still Honor Amaterasu....
Chiri makes a gesture indicating a lizard about the size of a large dog.
Kazuki: Tahata Gaki is on the opposite side of the empire. There would be no reason to travel this far to do something like that
Hida Sashimi: Cutting on or against the grain really depends on how you plan to cook it, and how tough the meat is when cooked
Sensei: Kuutai is pretty sure there are plenty of temples to Amaterasu still around, although some have fallen into disrepair.
Chiri: She thinks lizards are typically quite tough.
Kuutai: Sunday....I will find such a priestess of Ameterasu, and ask these matters...
Kuutai: when that day will come, I know not.
Hida Sashimi: Then yes, across the grain into thin strips would be best
Hida Sashimi: Kn (Regional Cuisine) [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 10]
Kazuki: Spirit [1d6 = 3]
Kazuki: Persuasion [1d4 = 7]
Chiri heads off into the darkening shadows.
Kazuki: Want some sake?
Chiri: She will go get a lizard to test this theory.
Takumi runs up to the group from the opposite direction from where Chiri just walked.
Takumi: Hello sirs!
Takumi bows.
Kuutai: Hello!
Takumi: Great and honorable folk.
Takumi bows again.
Kuutai: Notice [1d6 = 10]
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 7]
Kazuki: Stealth [1d6 = 8]
Kazuki vanishes
Takumi does not see Kazuki.
Hida Sashimi: What seems to be the trouble?
Hida Sashimi: Persuasion [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 4]
Kazuki: Climbing {+2 Thief} [1d6+2 = 5]
Takumi appears to be a normal farmer, albeit better spoken than most.
Takumi: Well, see, it is my son.
Kuutai: Yes?
Kazemi (Kazuki): lol
Kazemi (Kazuki): ROFL
Kazemi (Kazuki): says Takumi to the one who murdered an orphanage
Kazemi (Kazuki): someone who payed good money to kill all the children
Takumi: He has contracted a strange disease, and our village wise man, Kiyoshi, told me that in order to make a cure I need some Black Tar from Sekisho.
Kazemi (Kazuki): I note that your avatar is in Joy mode
Takumi fidgets.
Kazuki: Kn(Lore & Legends) {+1 Defining Interest} [1d6+1 = 4]
Takumi: I do not have the ability to get it myself, but I want my son to be healthy...so I have been looking for brave souls who might be able to get some for me.
Kuutai: Sekisho? We are headed to the very heart of that forest. Do tell how we aquire this tar, and we shall not tarry to get you your meds!
Takumi: I do not have much...but whatever I have is yours.
Hida Sashimi: about black tar
Kuutai: I'm sure we can.....arrange something....
Hida Sashimi: Food {+1 Def. Interest} [1d6+1 = 6]
Kuutai laughs uncontrollably
Kazemi (Kazuki): what an upstanding citizen!
Kazuki happens to remember that Black Tar is found only in Sekisho and is reputed to have magical properties. It is actually a sap from trees. The major problem with it is that Black Tar attracts Black Oni, who consume it with considerable glee, as it is an aphrodisiac for them.
Sensei: Hida knows that Black Tar has no nutritional value, but Herbalists like it for some reason. It also can be used as a thickener in soups.
Kuutai: How long...do we have?
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Nothing wrong with re-tar-ded info
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 18]
Takumi: Months I believe.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): As long as we don't get stuck on the subject
Takumi: It is a long and painful wasting disease, so the earlier it is treated, the less pain he will be in.
Kuutai: Painful? ...Oh right, Yes....Okay....
Kuutai: We will find the Tar!
Takumi clenches hands together.
Takumi: Oh, thank you sir!
Nick (Hida Sashimi): I hope this doesn't become a sticky situation
Takumi: I do not have much, but if you do this for me, I shall tell all I encounter of your good works.
TADM: (And the party might actually get Honor points...)
Kuutai bows to Takumi
Kuutai: Onward! TO Sekisho!
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Wait, there's an Honor Point system?
TADM: Yes there is. Right now everyone has 0.
Kazemi (Kazuki): how is Kuutai still non-negative?
Takumi: When you collect some, I only need a small amount, perhaps enough for one flask, bring it back to the village where I live, I am in the westernmost house.
Takumi points to the nearby village and the house.
Takumi: Right there.
Kuutai Noted sir.
Kazuki: Stealth [1d8 = 4]
Takumi: Thank you again sirs! I shall tell my son and he will be happier just knowing that someone is willing to help.
Kazuki appears behind Takumi
Kazuki: Can I ask what sort of disease your son has?
Takumi tries to run off...smashes into Kazuki.
Kazuki: Agility {+2 Acrobat} [1d8+2 = 6]
Kazuki does not fall down!
Takumi: Strength [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 1]
Takumi: Agility [1d8 = 6]
Sensei: Strength check for Kazuki.
Kazuki: Strength [1d6 = 7]
Takumi bounces off Kazuki and falls on his ass.
Takumi: Hey, where did you come from?
Kazuki: Sorry about that
Kazuki holds his hand out to help Takumi up
Takumi takes hand, pulls himself up.
Kazuki: I'm with them. I was out scouting and just came back. Can I ask what type of disease your son has?
Kazuki: Or how he got it?
Kazuki tilts his head.
Takumi: It is called Oni Rot, I have no idea how he got it, but the wise man tells me it is not contagious.
Kuutai: Wise man, you say?
Kazuki: Common Knowledge [1d6 = 5]
Takumi: I can only assume he found something...oni like...in the fields and played with it.
Takumi: Yes, our village wise man, Kiyoshi.
Kazuki: Kn(Lore & Legends) {+1 Defining Interest} [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6+1 = 4]
Kuutai: Kiyoshi? Where does he reside?
Sensei: Kazuki knows that oni rot is pretty rare, but does match what Takumi is saying.
Takumi: Oh, the larger hut in the middle of the village.
Kazemi (Kazuki): Is it almost dark?
Kuutai: Excellent
Kuutai bolts off to the hut
Sensei: Since Chiri disappeared into the darkening shadows of dusk...I'd go with...yes.
Kazuki: By the way, that sap will attract Black Oni. We can get it for you, but I would suggest being ready for trouble when we come back. Do you think we could stay at your village?
Hida Sashimi: Perhaps we should head to the village and rest for the night, then search in the morning
Takumi: Absolutely. You can stay at my place.
Takumi: I will be happy to have you and provide you with food, since you are helping me out.
Chiri: But she just killed this lizard.
Kazemi (Kazuki): how big?
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6+2 = 6]
Chiri walks up, holding a headless lizard about the size of a Jack Russell Terrier.
Hida Sashimi: Kn (Regional Cuisine) [Critical failure!] [1d4 = 1]
Nick (Hida Sashimi): What
Kazemi (Kazuki): Oh, this is hilarious
Nick (Hida Sashimi): The
Kazemi (Kazuki): You're my favorite now
Nick (Hida Sashimi): F***?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Quorteth (Kuutai): Welcome to my world friend.
Kazemi (Kazuki): I'm not even going to interfere. I'm going to let you eat it
Sensei: Hida believes they are most spectacularly awesome tasting source of meat on the face of the planet.
Kazemi (Kazuki): Vengence for not helping me when I got sprayed by the skunk-thing
Quorteth (Kuutai): Special Gimmick? Yeah right, at least you don't lose Cooking Knowledge!
Takumi: Errr...aren't those poisonous?
Chiri: Not when one removes the head and tears out the spinal column, much like this.
Kazuki: Persuasion (Acting) {+1 Defining Interest} [1d6+1 = 6]
Chiri rips the spinal column free of the carcass and tosses it to one side.
Kazuki keeps a straight face
Hida Sashimi: Vigor {+1 Mark} [1d8+1 = 8]
Takumi vomits violently and loudly.
Hida Sashimi: That's...pretty gross, Chiri. I could have cut that out, you know
Chiri: She prefers to feel the life draining from the creature and the splatter of blood on her hands. It is very cathartic to her.
Quorteth (Kuutai): Awww so cute!
Takumi: Umm...is she with you?
Takumi: You know...maybe my son is not so sick...maybe...you need the Black Tar more than I do.
Takumi looks green.
Kazuki: Don't worry about us. I'll see if we can minimize Chiri's effect on your village
Kazuki: Hey, Chiri, do you want to sleep in the wagon tonight or in a house?
Kazuki: it is an honest question
Chiri contemplates driving the wagon into a house.
Kazemi (Kazuki): clever girl
Kazuki: These are mutually exclusive
Chiri looks upset.
Chiri: She will sleep in a house, if the opportunity is there.
Kazuki: There is, but this man is our host and he would like to keep the...disturbing things away
Chiri: Then you are sleeping in the wagon?
Kazuki: Probably
Kazuki: Persuasion (Etiquette) [1d6 = 5]
Kazemi (Kazuki): ignore the etiquette
Chiri shrugs and tosses the lizard corpse into the wagon.
Hida Sashimi: Please, be respectful in the village, Chiri. And much less creepy
Chiri: She will go to the stream and clean her hands, then come to the house. Which one is it?
Hida Sashimi: Persuasion [1d6 = 7]
Chiri: She will...do her best...
Chiri has a strange expression on her face.
Chiri walks off.
Takumi: Umm...
Takumi: Okay, well, anyway, I will go tell my wife so she can prepare extra food.
Takumi looks at Hida.
Kazuki grabs his last bottle of sake and heads off after her
Takumi: Much extra food.
Takumi runs off.
Kazuki: She likes sake, by the way
Sensei: Okay, I need to know what the plan is. Is Kuutai looking for Kiyoshi? Is Hida going to Takumi's house? Is Kazuki trying to find Chiri in the dark?
Hida Sashimi: Yes
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 12]
Kuutai: Yes i am looking for Kiyoshi
Kazemi (Kazuki): Yes
Chiri: Stealth {+2 Thief} [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6+2 = 19]
Hida Sashimi goes into the village to Takumi's house to help prepare for dinner, and to buy more food if necessary
Sensei: Kuutai finds an elderly man in the central hut. There is an entire family living there, Kiyoshi is the patriach. He seems quite surprised to see Kuutai there. Hida finds a cozy cottage on the outskirts of the village. Takumi has a pretty wife, a sick son who is in bed, and an adorable three year old daughter who has huge anime-character-like brown eyes. Kazuki gets lost in the dark and fails to locate Chiri, but he does find a few good spots for his other plans.
Takumi: Yes, this is the nice man and some friends, who are going to look for the Black Tar we need.
Takumi and his family bows.
Hida Sashimi: Etiquette {+1 Def. Interest} [1d6+1 = 8]
Takumi and his family are quite impressed with Hida's politeness and grace.
Kazuki knocks on the door
Takumi opens the door and gestures for Kazuki to enter.
Kazuki: Persuasion (Etiquette) [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 4]
Kazuki is using a benny
Kazuki: Persuasion (Etiquette) [Critical failure!] [1d4 = 1]
Kazuki is using a benny
Kazuki: Persuasion (Etiquette) [1d4 = 5]
Kazemi (Kazuki): much better
Chiri shows up. She is cleaned up and almost respectable looking. The deep sneer is still there.
Takumi: Oh...I almost did not recognize you.
Chiri: She does not recognize you.
Takumi seems to accept this and is closing the door when Kuutai shows up.
Takumi: Ah yes, welcome, welcome.
Takumi gestures for Kuutai to enter.
Kuutai: Why thank you!
Chiri sits down on a mat near the entrance.
Hida Sashimi: *to Takumi's wife* Let me help you. No sense having to cook for so many uninvited guests
Takumi and his wife busy themselves around the kitchen, making food after Takumi makes sure everyone is comfortable, seated, and has a drink.
Takumi gives Chiri a small cup of sake.
Chiri takes the cup, looks rather surprised.
Chiri drinks it in one gulp.
Sensei: Takumi's wife is grateful for Hida's assistance, as it is pretty obvious that Hida is better at making food and helping in the kitchen than Takumi is.
Kuutai Enjoys the Chiri Variety Hour
Sensei: Takumi's daughter walks over at stares at Chiri. She whispers something to her.
Chiri nods, a tear drips down her cheek.
Kuutai: Notice [1d10 = 14]
Quorteth (Kuutai): What was said?
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6+2 = 7]
Chiri: Persuasion {+1 Stringed Instruments, +5 Alt. Charisma} [1d10+6 = 13]
Hida Sashimi: Smarts [1d6 = 14]
Kuutai: Smarts [1d6 = 11]
Nick (Hida Sashimi): Holy feast Batman!
Kazuki: Smarts [1d6 = 5]
Kazemi (Kazuki): I'm stupid Q.Q
Nick (Hida Sashimi): *stares at dice* Don't think that makes up for all your Crit Fails tonight!
Chiri gets out her biwa and plays a song. A pleasant, uplifting song with a melody that seems to carry your souls away to a place that is untouched by war, death, or disease.
Takumi: Err...
Takumi looks at Chiri.
Kazuki: Persuasion (Acting) {+1 Defining Interest} [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6+1 = 4]
Kazuki spews his drink all over Kuutai
Kazuki coughs
Kazuki: pardon me
Kuutai: Adds a nice flavor to my ensemble. Thanks!
Kazuki: Persuasion (Etiquette) [1d4 = 6]
Kazuki: I'm terribly sorry about that
Hida and Takumi's wife make an amazing meal that is the marvel of your collective taste buds for quite a few weeks.
Chiri: I'm...not hungry.
Chiri leaves.
Takumi: I am baffled by her.
Kuutai: Uh....
Takumi: Anyway, food's ready.
Takumi sneaks a gyoza when he thinks no one is looking.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): a what?
Kuutai: Smarts [1d10 = 3]
TADM: Pot sticker/dumpling.
Kazuki: I have never, in several weeks of knowing her, heard a single kind thing that came out of her mouth. I don't know what your daughter said to her, but it seems to have struck a nerve
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 5]
Kuutai: Ugh...
Takumi's daughter is playing with a doll in the corner.
Kuutai: Smarts (Defining Interest(Gods) +1) [1d10+1 = 10]
Kazuki heads back to the daughter. He pulls out a beautiful spinning top with depictions of the ocean on it.
Kazuki: Here. You seem to have done quite the favor for Chiri. You deserve this.
Takumi's daughter takes the top and spins it a little. Then runs over and gives it to her sick brother.
Takumi's Wife: Chiri?
Takumi's Wife: That is the girl's name?
Kuutai: Yes...
Kazuki: Yes.
Kuutai: Altough 'Girl' hardly describes what is Chiri...
Kazuki looks quizically at Takumi's wife
Takumi's Wife: That is...strange. It is not a woman's name, in fact, in older forms of Naganese, it means "dirt"
Takumi: My wife likes languages, she fancies herself something of a scholar. Likes to have long talks with Kiyoshi about stuff I don't understand.
Kazuki: We don't know much about her, but she seems to have low hopes. I imagine she picked that name herself.
Kuutai: Languages you say?
Takumi's Wife: Yes, confusing things like how to grow food.
Takumi's Wife nudges Takumi.
Kazuki: You can grow food?
Takumi: It's not my fault! I overwatered the damn melons okay, that was last year.
Kazuki: Are they as hard to kill as cactus?
Takumi's Wife looks at Kazuki and stifles a laugh.
Takumi's Wife: Err...yes, agriculture, growing plants. As to how hard they are to kill, well, if you have any skill at all, they will grow well.
Takumi: What is this "cactus" thing you speak of?
Kazuki: Well, an old friend of mine used to have a bunch of strange desert plants. Prickly things. I don't think he had any skill, though, because they all died off
Kazuki: They were supposed to be invincible
Takumi's Wife: Ah yes, where they the small round kind? I have heard that some Cactus might exist the outer islands of Doragon Mizu.
Takumi: Oh, and yes, my wife blathers on in a couple languages...not sure where she picked them all up. I assume she spends time in the bookstores in Kinzoku.
Kazuki: Which languages?
Kuutai: Let's Find Out!
Kazuki: Do you speak Cricket?
Kazuki: Kuutai can
Kuutai: Spellcasting [1d10 = 4]
Takumi's Wife: Cricket?
Takumi's Wife: I have never heard of it.
Kazuki: It was quite the sight, I assure you
Kuutai (Celestial): Neither Have I. What about this?
Kazuki: He apparently grew up in the wilderness and was taught all of the languages of the animals
Kazuki: Kuutai, Friend of Animals, he is called
Kazuki: Persuasion [Trait roll was a natural 1] [1d6 = 4]
Kazuki is using a benny
Takumi's Wife (Celestial): That is a cucumber.
Kazuki: Persuasion [1d6 = 3]
Kazemi (Kazuki): TO RUMOR MONGER
Kazemi (Kazuki): Can I get Nick's nomb enny?
Kazuki: Persuasion [1d6 = 4]
Kuutai (Celestial): Coolness! You sy you learned this from books in Kinzoku? You are most skilled!
Kazuki: Anyway, thank you for the food
Kazuki bows
Takumi's Wife (Celestial): You found some cold scrolls in Kinzoku that you grilled? Are you sure you speak this language?
Kazuki: I'm going to go watch my stuff
Takumi: Do what? Does it perform tricks?
Kazuki: No, I just want to make sure it's safe
Kazuki heads back out towards the wagon
Kazuki: No telling what comes out of the darkness

TADM: Yep, bright and early.
TADM: So if you have any strange miniquest requests, feel free to engage until everyone else gets here, or 15 minutes from now, whichever comes first.

TADM: It's okay, you are less late than Q.
Feneril (Ikuko): lol
Nick (Hida Sashimi): might help if you were on Vent, though
Ikuko: I will be in a minute
Feneril (Ikuko): still on the phone
TADM: No rush, we are just mocking Q for being late. Join in when you want.
Kazuki: Notice {+2 Alertness} [1d6+2 = 7]
Kazuki is near the entrance to Takumi's home in the pre-dawn light when he realizes he has not seen Chiri since the previous night. A couple seconds later, a small voice interrupts his thoughts.
Takumi's Daughter: She's gone. There was an errand she needed to do.
Takumi's Daughter: You will see her again, if you worry about such things.
Takumi's Daughter strokes the hair on her doll.
Kazemi (Kazuki): how creepy of a doll are we talking about?
Kuutai shows up.
Takumi's Daughter hands the doll to Kuutai.
Takumi's Daughter: Here, you need this more than I do.
Takumi's Daughter runs off.
Kuutai: Aww....that's adorable....
Kuutai: Notice [1d10 = 16]

Kazuki: Kn(Lore & Legends) {+1 Defining Interest} [Critical failure!] [1d4+1 = 2]
Kazuki: pfff
TADM: It's a doll that Kuutai thinks is adorable...where does that put it on Kazuki's creepiness meter?
Kazemi (Kazuki): Half the time I wish I couldn't see the results of those so that I can believe whatever I roll
Kuutai: What a nice child
Kuutai studies the doll in question...
Kazuki: I think we should burn the doll
Kazuki: So, apparently Chiri told the girl that she was going off on an "errand"
Kazuki: I'm betting it had something to do with last night
The sun's rays stretch like fingers through the night sky, pulling back the darkness and spreading light and warmth through the land. Ikuko's entire entourage enters the outskirts of town, near Takumi's house.
Kuutai: Hello!
Kazuki: Give the doll to Ikuko
Ikuko: I haven't played with dolls since I was a child
Kuutai: Never! I am sworn to protect this doll!
Kazuki looks surprised
The doll is a small, nondescript, looking piece of stuffed cloth with no facial features and a shock of blond hair (of unknown origin) coming off the top. There is a symbol of Amaterasu on the clothes the doll is dressed in.
Kazuki: When did this happen?
Kazuki: You've had the doll for a whole of 30 seconds and I've been here the entire time
Kuutai clutches the doll defensively.
Kazuki: I was about to ask if you're delusional, but that would be a stupid question
Kuutai: Or is it?
Kazuki: Persuasion [1d6 = 4]
Ikuko: It is
Hida Sashimi: Persuasion [1d6 = 3]
Takumi walks outside his house.
Takumi: Good morning gents and....
Kazuki: Good morning!
Hida Sashimi: Guess I cannot speak logically with the illogical
Takumi pauses as he realizes Ikuko is there.
Hida Sashimi: Good morning, kind sir
Takumi: Umm...your ladyship?
Takumi bows.
Takumi: What brings you to our little village?
Ikuko: A horse
Kazuki coughs
Takumi looks confused for a second.
Kazemi (Kazuki): Are you sure it's not a camel?
Feneril (Ikuko): probably not
Takumi: Ah, well, that is better than being brought here against your will by a horde of rampaging oni.
Ikuko: That is true, but I know little of Oni
Daichi: Indeed.
Kazuki: Does that happen often?
Ikuko: Kazuki is the expert on that
Takumi: Nope, thankfully. Although Sekisho is rife with black oni from what I hear.
Feneril (Ikuko): indeed
Kazuki: So, we should probably get ready to head out to the forest
Kazuki: Are you guys going to need to rest a bit, Daichi? Or would a breakfast break be enough?
Daichi: No, we are ready to head out, we camped earlier and Lady Ikuko wanted to rise early today to catch up with you.
Kuutai: Rest?
Kazuki: You know, that coma you drop into every night that causes you to vividly halucinate
Kuutai: Ah that.
Kazuki has been awarded a benny
TADM: Okay, that was AWESOME.
Nick (Hida Sashimi): I concur.
Hida Sashimi: I believe I am good to go.
