As the crew has become scattered over the years, the ability to keep them together for role-playing gets difficult.  Add to that different timezones and general life, and things get tight.  Fortunately, there is a slew of products out there which allow for a Virtual Tabletop environment.  I have fiddled with a few, helped design a few, and find myself entering my 9th year of running games and events with the Fantasy Grounds software.

The biggest complaints I have ever heard from anyone about it are:  Lack of voice integration, lack of direct Mac client, and the price of add-ons.  The voice integration could be a concern, but it has never been an issue for any group I have played with.  Ventrilo, Teamspeak, Skype, GoogleVoice - there are plenty of programs designed to handle this, so I see no reason to interfere with what works by adding extra complexity to the software.

The absence of a Mac client is overcome by Parallels, VMware Fusion, Wine - you name it, I have seen it work with pretty much any emulator.  Or just buy it through Steam and call it good.

The add-ons can be a bit pricey, but they are definitely worth it.  The Savage Worlds ruleset for Fantasy Grounds is the best ruleset I have seen, does an amazing amount of automation and rules checking for you, and lets the GM and Players sit back and enjoy the game.

Both Fantasy Grounds and the Savage Worlds rule set continue to be supported and improved.

Yeah, this is not a paid endorsement, this is nothing other than my opinion, and kudos to some guys who have done it right.  Feel free to disagree, but 9 years of good service is the strongest endorsement I could make for a product.
