Over the years, you meet a person here, a person there, bump elbows at a convention, and eventually you get into the habit of doing freelance writing and editing, even if you did not plan on it.  Mostly because there is a lot of material out there, and a lot of really bad material out there.

One of the biggest and most annoying things about being a freelancer is when you encounter a High School Clique that turned into a gaming company.  Their products are consistently poor, they surround themselves with "yes men" and if you submit something to them they discard it out of hand because you are not a member of the "in-crowd."  My hit rate has clawed itself to about 75% acceptance, which still means I get rejected 25% of the time.  I do not mind rejection, and always find it amusing when I submit the exact same pitch to another company and it gets picked up.

In the vein of a Credit Card commercial, the last eighteen months when it comes to writing and editing could be considered this:

- Rejected by Prestigious Eclectic Group*, also known as "High School Clique Masquerading as a Game Company" - $0.

- Accepted by Unknown publishing company with the exact same pitch and project - 3% commission on sales, no other payment.

- Winning an Ennie at 2014 GenCon for work rejected by the Prestigious Eclectic Group** - Priceless!

* = This might be a pseudonym I have created allowing clever people to figure out who I mean.

** = They actually asked me to write the pitch and the project, then rejected it when I was done - making it even more hilarious because they forfeited all rights upon rejection.
