Slumbara: So shall we go find that bat?
Meltam Perandus: Yeah. we batter.
Slumbara takes out his phone and leaves Meltam's pun a 1 star review on Yelp
Tack (Meltam Perandus): I was only winging it.
Volmalric: We can go for the bat, but we can also go for the dragon
Volmalric: Which should be the easier of the two
Volmalric: Which are we closer to?
Meltam Perandus: Dragon first, we know that Slumbara has the key to that puzzle.
Slumbara: If I am reading this map right, and we all know Slumbara can read, the bat demon is betwen us and the dragon
Meltam Perandus: You are reading it wrong, they are basically the same distance according to thos Denny's placemat with a map drawn on the back with crayons
Volmalric: Map is not drawn to scale, though
Meltam Perandus: Trust the crayons/
Slumbara: Well Slumbara has a foolproof plan for the dragon
Slumbara: but we should have a plan for the bat before we leave
Slumbara: in case we run into it
Volmalric: Ah, yes
Slumbara: Normally Slumbara would suggest that Slumbara can kill it with a sword
Meltam Perandus: liberal application of violence.
Slumbara: But Volmalric said that future Volmalric said that is a bad plan
Meltam Perandus: OH RIGHT. We need wax
Meltam Perandus: We need to find bees first
Slumbara: It sounds good to me, but future Volmalric probably knows better
Meltam Perandus: That's what we were doing!
Meltam Perandus: Survival Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 26]
Slumbara: Survival 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 1 [2d20 = 24]
Meltam Perandus: Well i swear I was onto the trail of some bees just a bit ago
Volmalric: I think I can whip us up some wax first, if we can find some bees, but I've got a much louder concoction that should prevent death from a closer range
Meltam Perandus: You told me if I hear the bat, I'll go insane.
Slumbara: Maybe if Slumbara plays the tuba loud enough we will not hear the bat
Meltam Perandus: Not sure it works like that.
Meltam Perandus: Wait, Delia, are you still made of metal?
Delia: I don't think I was ever made of metal, but I'm still not.
Meltam Perandus: Observation 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 26]
Volmalric: If you talk to the bat, you'll go mad
Volmalric: If you hear the bat, you'll die
Volmalric: I don't know how this works, just that there was a very grumpy warning
Meltam Perandus: Fossilized Pancake?
Metalm agrees that Delia is not made of metal, based on his Observation roll.
Meltam remembers vaguely seeing some bees at some point, but gets confused and points in the wrong direction. Slumbara determines the bees are in a different direction after being stung viciously by one of them and then seeing it fly off towards a beehive.
GM: ...but wait...aren't bees killed if they sting something? Why is the bee still alive?
Slumbara follows after the bee
Kazemi (Volmalric): Is the bee sting enough to warrent medical aid?
Meltam Perandus: Survival Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 10]
Kazemi (Volmalric): Because Volmaric can Alchemy up some balm for that that definitely doesn't attract more bees
Slumbara: Resistance 2EXP/2FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 22]
Kazemi (Volmalric): You have to roll on BEES, found under coordination
Meltam Perandus Continues along the path following Slumbara.
Volmalric follows after the two, keeping an eye out for special non-bee laden ingredients in this wonderful land
After a short walk of about 10 minutes, you find a nice beehive complete with a large number of buzzing bees happily going about their assigned tasks.
Meltam Perandus: Do either of you have a plan?
Slumbara: Animal Handling 4EXP/4FOC Successes = 3 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 13]
Slumbara: Stand back
Slumbara: This is a job for Farmer Slumbara
Kazemi (Volmalric): BEE fair
Tack (Meltam Perandus): YUS~!
Volmalric Steps back, keeping Meltam between himself and Slumbara
Slumbara starts a small fire downwind of the beehive so the smoke will repel the bees
Tack (Meltam Perandus): Bees don't play fair though; they usually nab people via sting operations.
Feneril (Slumbara): upwind*
Slumbara: Volmalric, give me a container
Slumbara: I am sure you have many jars
Volmalric: Full or empty?
Slumbara: Empty
The bees fly over to the fire and begin cavorting around it making strange geomantic flight patterns around the smoke while intensifying their flight pattern to create a powerful rhythmic tempo.
Slumbara: Unless it's full of ale
Volmalric begins rummaging through and pulls out a container dumping out a couple leves into a second container
Slumbara: In which case I can make it empty
Volmalric: Here, you can use this one
Slumbara takes the jar
Delia: I'm pretty sure that is not normal bee-havior. But I'm not a bee-farmer.
Slumbara: It is not, bees are usually repelled by smoke
Slumbara: But this could work just as well
Meltam Perandus is excited.
The smoke begins swirling and forms into a cloud. Lightning crackles within it.
Volmalric: Okay, time for that fire to go out
Delia: Right, totally natural. I'm going to hide behind this conveniently placed lead-shield.
Delia gets behind a large rock.
Meltam Perandus follows Delia.
Volmalric: Slumbara, I'm going to handle the fire now
Slumbara takes advantage of the bees being distracted to head over to the beehive and scoop out a handful of wax
Slumbara: Stealth 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 32]
Volmalric pulls out a container of fluids, pouring them two together and throwing the concoction at the fire to put it out
Volmalric: Alchemy 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 26]
Slumbara: Observation 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 13]
Volmalric douses the fire. The cloud does not dissipate, but it is not getting any larger. There is a loud buzzing noise and a very large (as in, Slumbara torso-sized) bee appears.
The other bees create a formation around the large bee as the cloud dissipates.
Volmalric: Hello, large bee friend
Volmalric backs away slowly from the bee
Slumbara: These bees seem very friendly
Queen Bee: Hello two legged. Thank you for freeing me from my imprisonment.
Kazemi (Volmalric): There are certain times in one's life when they wish they were currently wearing a beekeeper's outfit. This is one of those times
Queen Bee: In exchange for this, my servants have let you friend collect some honey.
Queen Bee: And wax and nectar, or whatever it is you need.
Slumbara: Yes they were very helpful, Slumbara got much wax
Meltam Perandus: Yeah, this is much better than violence, that would have been a total buzzkill.
Delia: Stung to death by bees is something I would prefer to avoid.
Tack (Meltam Perandus): (had to)
Queen Bee: No kidding, plus we would have had to request the ant swarm to come devour your corposes and they always leave such a mess behind.
Slumbara: I would think ants would eat all the fleshy parts and leave nothing but clean bone
Queen Bee: So would I, but they are messy eaters. I suspect demonic infestation. Good thing there is absolutely nothing unusual about the bees around here.
Meltam Perandus offers a bouquet of the tastiest flowers to the Queen
Queen Bee: Thank you for the nice bouquet of flowers.
Volmalric: Any form of death is preferably avoided
Slumbara: By the way, this may seem like a strange question, but did a man who looks like him ask to hide a piece of paper inside your beehive
Volmalric: Or imprisonment in smokey parallel dimensions
Slumbara points to Volmalric
Queen Bee: Umm...
Volmalric blinks
Queen Bee looks at Volmalric.
Queen Bee: Why yes. But he was older looking and had much more facial hair.
Volmalric: Huh
Queen Bee: He also seemed very disgruntled all the time.
Volmalric takes a note on that
Queen Bee: For a sorceror who had multiple demonic hounds for pets, he was polite and well-mannered.
Meltam Perandus: Interesting.
Volmalric: Would we be able to see the --- wait what?
Delia: Well now, it's good to know Meltam is not the only sorcerer in the group.
Volmalric: I am not a sorcerer!
Slumbara: Hah! It is funny because you are so obsessed with Mitra!
Volmalric: I am a devout follower of Mitra!
Slumbara laughs loudly at Volmalric
Volmalric: Surely it must be some form of...cultural misunderstanding
A group of bees fly over with a wax coated note and drop it at Slumbara's feet.
Meltam Perandus: Ooh Ooh
Meltam Perandus: Athletics Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 18]
Volmalric heads over to Slumbara to take a look at the note
Slumbara: Linguistics 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 15]
Slumbara attempts to decipher the note
Slumbara carefully reads the note, Meltam actually unseals it from the wax and flips it over so the lettering is present and visible.
Volmalric takes a look at the note
Slumbara: Hmm, future Volmalric must have very bad handwriting
Volmalric: I suspect future Volmaric was being hounded at the time of writing
Volmalric: Or past Volmaric
Volmalric: Older past Volmaric
Queen Bee: Best of luck to you, we have to move the hive now. The hairy demonic dog version of the man said that just after you came to visit there would be a series of horrible lightning strikes from a fell monster flying overhead that killed someone, and I'd prefer it not be my bees. I hope the survivors fare well.
Queen Bee flees the area quickly with the rest of her bees. Clouds ominously form overhead.
Volmalric: What a shocking development
Slumbara fills his ears with wax
Meltam Perandus: Dear queen bee, i bee a humlbe homsteader in my world. Take these seeds with you, they will grow into a garden of the most delicious flowers.
A few bees gratefully accept your offering in appreciattion.
Slumbara offers the jar to Volmalric and Meltam
Meltam Perandus: may your kingdom never hunger!
Slumbara (Shouting): JUST IN CASE
Volmalric fills his ears with wax as well, taking the note from Meltam while he's distracted
Slumbara (Shouting): THAT CLOUD HAS A REAL "BAT DEMON" LOOK TO IT
Meltam Perandus Takes some wax.
Volmalric (Shouting): GOOD THINKING
Volmalric: what does the note say?
Volmalric (Shouting): I HOPE THAT THE BAT KILLS BY SONIC INSTEAD OF BY THUNDER. WE WERE DEFINITELY LEAD TO BELIEVE IT WAS ITS SCREAM THAT KILLS, RATHER THAN LIGHTNING THAT ACCOMPANIES IT
Volmalric (SHOUTING): RUN!
Meltam Perandus: Command Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 26]
Meltam Perandus: stand and fight! On your feet!
Volmalric pushes Slumbara toward the trees
Volmalric (Shouting): GO GO GO
You are in a forest clearing at this moment, there are trees in every direction.
Slumbara (Shouting): GOOD THINKING, WE CAN FASHION A GIANT SPEAR FROM A TREE
Volmalric (Shouting): MELTAM, DELIA, C'MON! DEEPER INTO THE FOREST
Delia gets out from behind rock and runs after the group.
Slumbara shoves wax into Delia's ears
Meltam Perandus follows
The group runs into the trees. Several lightning strikes hit the ground in the clearing where you were, destroying the abandoned bee-hive and pretty much annihilating all living things larger than bacteria in the area.
Delia: Right, that seems unhealthy.
Slumbara (Shouting): WHAT? I CAN'T HEAR YOU? YOU'LL HAVE TO SPEAK UP
Kazemi (Volmalric): How does the forest look at this area?
It looks like trees, bushes, and a normal scandanavian style forest. Nothing has caught fire yet.
Volmalric gestures at the others to follow after and put some distance between the death-rays-from-the-sky and them
Slumbara scans the skys for sings of the bat demon
Slumbara: Observation 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 29]
Slumbara sees no bat demon.
Meltam Perandus: Observation 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 31]
Meltam Perandus: [1d20 = 18]
Slumbara: [1d20 = 6]
Slumbara sees something more exciting...
Slumbara: Lore 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 25]
Delia: Obs, Insight, Theivery - 2 Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 31]
Delia: Umm...guys...I have a bad feeling about this.
Slumbara (Shouting): I THINK IT WANTS TO EAT ME
Meltam Perandus: NOTHING WE CAN"T HANDLE!
Slumbara points at a giant, armored winged snake in the sky wielding a spear
Meltam Perandus: Lore 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 23]
Volmalric: Lore 2EXP/2FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 26]
Slumbara (Shouting): THESE BEASTS USED TO ENSLAVE MY PEOPLE
Meltam and Volmaric notice a Servitor of Set flying towards you, wreathed in lightning bolts.
Volmalric (Shouting): LET'S KEEP GOING
It is making a "beeline" towards the group.
It is definitely hunting you.
Volmalric gives the DM a benny
Meltam Perandus is using a Hero Point
Meltam Perandus: Ranged Weapons 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 15]
Slumbara dips several arrows into a vial and fires one at the bat demon
Slumbara: dipping my arrows into whatever the "super (bat) drugs" are
Meltam Perandus: Bow: [3d6 = 10]
Slumbara: Ranged Weapons 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 3 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 6]
Meltam's arrow deflects off the armor of the creature.
Volmalric: Which might actually be future Meltam, now that I think of it. Or the bat demon. Or both. Plot twist: Meltam's blood would work just fine
Slumbara: Bow: (Close-2H-Volley-3D): [3d6 = 6]
Slumbara's arrow deflects off the armor.
Servitor: Delia, I have come to take you home.
Servitor: Your servants can go.
Slumbara (Shouting): BITCH YOU HAVEN'T EVEN BOUGHT HER A DRINK
Volmalric gets his flashbang and primes it up, then throws the stunning concotion at the creature
Volmalric is using a Hero Point
Volmalric: Alchemy 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 10]
Slumbara: Observation 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 19]
Slumbara: [1d20 = 8]
Meltam Perandus: Awareness - 8 Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 22]
Meltam Perandus: Observation 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 2 Complications = 1 [2d20 = 22]
The Flashbang works amazingly well!
Slumbara notices and looks away. Meltam notices and decides he wants to make sure it works by staring at it while removing the wax from one ear.
There is an eruption of sound and light from the flashbang. Everyone not named Meltam recovers almost immediately.
Volmalric (Shouting): BEGONE, FOUL BAT DEMON
Slumbara is disappointed, as Volmalric's amazing powerful Flashbang of TURBO-MEGA-DEATH seems to have caused the Serpent creature to vanish. It must have been blown into subatomic particles!
Volmalric (Shouting): I DID NOT MEAN LITERALLY. THAT WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN
Volmalric: Observation Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 18]
Meltam Perandus: What, are you going to throw a hissssy fit now?
Slumbara (Shouting): THEN WHY DID YOU SAY IT? MAYBE YOU SHOULD SAY WHAT YOU MEAN, AND MEAN WHAT YOU SAY
Volmalric does not see anything dangerous or hostile in the immediate area.
Slumbara takes the wax out of his ears and puts it back with the rest of the wax in teh jar
He even remembers to look behind him and UP.
Meltam Perandus: Resistance 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 32]
Slumbara: Don't worry, Slumbara will help you
Slumbara: Healing 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 9]
Volmalric takes note
Volmalric takes out the wax as well
Meltam Perandus: Thank ye friend Slumbara, your mercy is even greater than your strength.
Slumbara jury rigs a makeshift eyewash for Meltam
Volmalric: Note to self, the extreme silencer may also silence one's existence
Volmalric turns to Delia
Meltam Perandus: Observation 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 32]
Volmalric sees no Delia.
Volmalric: Fuck
Volmalric: It took Delia
Slumbara: Well, maybe
Slumbara: Either that or she ran back to the pancake hut
Volmalric: Okay, so, we've gotta go find her
Slumbara looks for tracks
Slumbara: Survival 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 25]
Slumbara finds Delia's tracks and follows them to a rock where he sees Meltam's footprints also. Then he finds Delia's backpack. Something seems very suspicious to Detective Slumbara!
Slumbara: Hmm, Meltam was here as well
Slumbara: Maybe there is some evidence of his wrongdoing in her backpack
Volmalric: Yeah, but I think that was the demon...snake?
Slumbara searches Delia's backpack
Volmalric: Demon bat?
Slumbara: Observation 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 17]
Meltam Perandus: Don't you feel betrayed, Mitra-Goodey-boy?
Campaign saved.
