Delia's backpack seems to be a container of ever-shifting weirdly broken junk that you swear changes every time you move something around it. Also, it seems like you can reach farther into the backpack than should be possible, as you sink your arm all the way to your shoulder into it and it feels like you cannot quite reach the bottom.
Meltam Perandus: [1d100 = 87]
Meltam Perandus: I love surprises! This is incredible!
Slumbara: It reminds me of checking a horse's prostate
Volmalric: It reminds me precisely not of that
Slumbara reaches around and pulls out a dessicated hyena head that appears to have semi-precious gemstones embedded in the eyes. There are strange glyphs carved into the skin, clearly this is evidence that Meltam was responsible because this must be the mysterious object Meltam wanted and made Delia vanish so he could reclaim it!
Slumbara: Meltam, what is this?
GM: (The dried, parchment like, preserved hyena skin.)
Slumbara: What do these mystical runes mean?
Volmalric: They mean bad things, we should probably put that back
Volmalric: Or burn it
Meltam Perandus: Well, I have to applaud that you are commuicative rather than immediately responding with violence
Meltam Perandus: Lore 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 12]
Slumbara: There is time for violence later
Meltam Perandus: Let me try and interpret these runes.
Slumbara: if you lie to Slumbara
Meltam Perandus: Linguistics Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 19]
Slumbara: Linguistics 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 16]
Meltam Perandus squints and makes professorly thinking noises
Slumbara: Lore 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 9]
Meltam Perandus: Hyenas are no laughing matter. That much I can say outright.
Slumbara: trying to decipher the symbols
Volmalric: Lore 2EXP/2FOC Successes = 3 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 8]
Meltam Perandus: I think we should keep this head in the bag and not deface the magics involved.
Volmalric glances over Meltam's shoulder at the head
Volmalric: I second this
Volmalric: Also, why does Delia have such a strange thing anyways?
Meltam Perandus: I do think, however, that Deliah sort of did this to herself.
Slumbara: Obviously it was her pet
Meltam Perandus: She sort of Set herself up for it.
GM: Bad Meltam, +0.5 Fate Point for bad pun.
Slumbara: We should put it back
Volmalric gives Meltam a dirty look
Slumbara puts the head back in the bag
Volmalric: I think Delia may be a more...involved individual than we originally thought.
Meltam Perandus: Eh, all the cool kids have a patron.
Meltam Perandus: Hate magic not the player?
Meltam Perandus: We still need to make good on Scholar King though
Meltam Perandus: So we'd bat-er get moving to get the next component
GM: Bad Meltam, +0.1 Fate Point for bad pun.
Slumbara: Slumbara does not want to leave Delia to be killed o raped by the bad monster
Volmalric: That creature was definitely not the "bat", was it?
Slumbara: Animal Handling 4EXP/4FOC Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 32]
Servitor: But what if is was consensual after I enchanted her?
Meltam Perandus: ....you are more likely to kill or rape something than Set. Deliah is too useful of a servant to lose carelessly.
Meltam Perandus: Observation 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 19]
Servitor is actually not here, but curious about how laws work in Kush.
Feneril (Slumbara): Still rape, Slumbara is anti-rape
Feneril (Slumbara): pro-orgy, but anti-rape
You are relatively certain the Servitor of Set was not the Bat-Demon.
Slumbara: Lore 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 1 [2d20 = 27]
Slumbara: Well the scholar king said we had to finish the magic recipe to kill the servitor of set
Volmalric: Do we have any idea where that servitor of set lives?
Edgarth helpfully reappears next to you.
Volmalric: There are so many strange things in this little bubble realm
Slumbara: So Slumbara reluctantly must agree with Meltam that we must continue with finding the bat demon before we can rescue Delia
Edgarth: Yes, he lives in the volcano, I mentioned this a really long time ago, but your characters would likely remember it.
Meltam Perandus: I remember!
Edgarth waits patiently to see if he needs to provide any additional wxposition before returning to his corporeal form and living on large rats near the Derro caves.
Meltam Perandus: I think we are good, Sir Edgarth!
Edgarth: Okie dokie.
Edgarth disappears.
Slumbara: We should continue on towards the bat demon's ruins, Meltam is hallucinating
Slumbara: and talking to thin air
Meltam Perandus: Nothing to it. We have wax for our ears, and we have weapons to kill the thing
Volmalric: Lore 2EXP/2FOC Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 35]
Slumbara continues towards the ruins where the bat demon resides
Slumbara: Survival 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 27]
Meltam Perandus: [1d20 = 15]
Volmalric: [1d20 = 14]
Slumbara: [1d20 = 17]
Meltam Perandus Follows Slumbara.
The group is walking along the cliff face in the direction of the river for about 20 minutes when Slumbara spots a strange yellowish wad of paper sitting inside a hole in a dead tree. It seems oddly familiar to him.
As soon as Slumbara looks in that direction, Meltam and Volmalric notice it also and all have the same sense of deja-vu. Or is it vuja-de?
Meltam Perandus: Well, what does it say?
Volmalric: Lemme check
Volmalric approaches the paper and looks around before pulling it out to check it out
Volmalric sees nothing unusual near/in the tree, other than the wad of paper. He pulls it out and the yellowish "paper" actually appears to be some sort of animal hide with a crude but well done map on it. There is also a sheet of paper wadded up inside the hide, wrapped in a way that the moisture which the hide was exposed to would not get into the paper.
Slumbara: Hmm, a map, this is something Slumbara can read
Volmalric: Oh, hey, we've got a pretty good map in here
Volmalric: How does it compare to yours, Slumbara?
Slumbara examines the map
Volmalric checks out the second page of paper
Slumbara: Survival 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 18]
Meltam Perandus: To the Bat Tower!
Volmalric: Copy down the details onto your map, Slumbara. If we're missing anything. We'll want to leave this here for next time
Meltam Perandus: Theoretically there shouldn't be a next time, this time around.
Slumbara updates his map
Slumbara: Why do I think you said that last time
Feneril (Slumbara): We can't be sure we've broken the loop until we see Kelsey Grammar
Kazemi (Volmalric): For all we know, Delia gets kidnapped each time and we rescue her each time, prompting the rest
Meltam Perandus: Hey Volmalric, do you have any flash powder or some such?
GM: Yes he does.
Meltam Perandus: It occurs to me that a sudden flash of bright light could be quite disoriennting to it.
Meltam Perandus: ....along with a suitable tuba solo to assault its hearing
Meltam Perandus: And we should be golden!
Volmalric: Indeed I do
Meltam Perandus: To battle friends!
Meltam Perandus briskly walks in the direction of the Bat.
Slumbara puts the map back in the tree after he is done copying it and heads off towards the bat demon's tower
Volmalric: So, plot twist, it looks like the dragon itself is in the volcano. The servitor is in the swamp north of the enclave, so that's where Delia is going to be. Apparently people just assumed the servitor lived in the volcano as well.
Slumbara: IF the dragon is the folcano, what are it's tears? Hot lava?
Volmalric: Might be hot pockets
Slumbara: Slumbara's one-act play cannot cause a volcano to erupt
Slumbara: it can only make living things cry
Slumbara: But Slumbara will try
Volmalric: Also, the dragon has lizard people servants.
Meltam Perandus: That can't be so bad.
Volmalric raises an eyebrow as he glances back at Meltam
Meltam Perandus: What
Meltam Perandus: Clearly we actually succeeded in that adventure at least onnce
Meltam Perandus: So it's not something to worry about>
Meltam Perandus: Ya know?
The group heads along the river, following the nicely escending slope of the hills until you spot the odd plateau in the distance. On the opposite side of the river from the plateau, a little to the southeast, you spot a large hill with a tower that reaches several hundred feet into the sky. Anyone standing on the top of that has a great view of the surrounding countryside!
Slumbara: Prime real estate
Volmalric: Very much so
Volmalric: Okay, so we can't let Meltam talk to this thing
Meltam Perandus: Which thing?
Volmalric: We'll have to operate in silence, and Meltam, here's more wax for you
Volmalric: The bat
Volmalric: It possesses you if you talk to it, invariably
Meltam Perandus: Yeah no problem Volmalric, I understand.
Slumbara: I can cut out his vocal chords
Meltam Perandus: No need, just kill the darn thing
Slumbara fashions a makeshift gag out of some rope and panther hide
Slumbara: Craft Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 17]
Slumbara gags Meltam
Slumbara succeeds, but it does look a little like a ball gag..
Volmalric prepares his flashbang material to stun the beast
Meltam Perandus: Oh geesh
Volmalric: Alchemy 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 0 Complications = 2 [2d20 = 40]
Tack (Meltam Perandus): A win-rar is you.
Volmalric: [1d20 = 15]
Kazemi (Volmalric): brb laundry
Volmalric expertly prepares some chemical concoctions which are guaranteed to work without fail in the most adverse conditions.
GM: The above sentence is what you should expect from any alchemist who rolls double 20s.
Meltam Perandus: Somewhere between thermite and elephant toothpaste
Meltam Perandus: remember to keep one vial clean and empty, so we can collect blood and preserve it.
Kazemi (Volmalric): As long as it isn't sentient
Meltam Perandus: In fact, It wouldn't hurt to give an empty vial to each of us before the fight
Meltam Perandus: Intelligence - 8 Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 25]
Now suitably prepared, the group forges along the path, until they find what looks like a ferry crossing from one side of the river to the other. There is a rope which allows the flat bottom ferry to be shuffled back and forth. It looks surprisingly well maintained, although you see no one in the immediate area. The river itself is about 30' wide and you would guess perhaps 10' deep at the deepest spot, but the river is relatiovely slow moving at this point. The ferry looks like it is designed to move cargo and animals, and could easily accommodate a wagon.
Meltam Perandus: Gentlemen, we should use the ferry. There's probably some sort of monster in there.
GM: (Experience with Demonic Crocodiles and Flesh Eating Fish have clearly not been forgotten by Meltam.)
Volmalric: I suspect this boat is maintained by the bat
Edgarth: [2d20 = 25]
Slumbara: Stealth 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 10]
Meltam Perandus: Stealth 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 14]
Volmalric: Stealth Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 23]
You stealthily cross the river on the ferry. You are so sneaky about it, no one who has not already observed your approach would never guess you were on the ferry.
Meltam Perandus: I feel as though we have avoided an incident.
You have now made it to the south side of the river. The Bat Tower is straight East of you.
Slumbara: Be vewwy vewwy quite. Wew hunting bats
It is, by your best guess, about 1600.
GM: Of course, sometimes, you have a planet like Uranus, which has a 716,356 hour "day".
Slumbara: Volmalric, do you have enough explosives in your bag to demolish that tower?
Volmalric: Not even close
Meltam Perandus: Im waxing on.
Volmalric: I'm a scientist, not a demolitions expert, damn it
Slumbara puts Meltam's gag back on
Meltam Perandus takes up a defensive position in whatever bushes, trees, etc are near the tower.
Meltam Perandus: Stealth 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 28]
Slumbara: If we can't bring the entire tower down, we are probably better off getting inside it
Slumbara: Slumbara thinks we should make a run for it, and use your bomb if we are caught in the open
Volmalric: Probably not a bad idea
Volmalric: I didn't think we'd even get close to this thing
Slumbara fills his ears with wax
The tower is actually a relatively impressive fortification, the central bailey would be the "tower" but it appears to have a couple ring of walls around the base which are respectively 15' and 30' high. You see what looks like lots of crucifixes around the outer wall, most of them appear to be "occupied."
Slumbara: on a closer look, perhaps getting inside will not be so easy
You see no signs of habitation around the tower though, although it could probably host several hundred people as a garrison.
Meltam Perandus: Observation 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 13]
There is a gate in the outer wall, it is currently open.
Meltam Perandus: Sorcery 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 21]
Kazemi (Volmalric): Do the people along the outside have matching outfits or are they all over the place in terms of equipment and freshness?
Volmalric: Observation Successes = 1 Complications = 1 [2d20 = 29]
Volmalric: Discipline 2EXP/2FOC Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 31]
Volmalric just took a point of Trauma damage.
Kazemi (Volmalric): laughs at the misfortune of the poor warriors crucified all over

Slumbara: Observation 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 27]
Meltam Perandus: Warfare Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 19]
A horn blows from inside the tower and a group of 10 identically dressed soldiers walk out from the tower and are heading towards you.
Meltam Perandus: Observation 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 21]
Meltam Perandus: Ranged Weapons 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 19]

Slumbara: [1d20 = 14]
Volmalric: Ranged Weapons 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 23]
Volmalric throws a Flashbang into the crowd. It explodes with a flash, and a bang...
Six of the Meltams erupt into flames and collapse into piles of ash.
The other two seem to have expected this and do not mind very much.
The shockwave is impressive enough that it manages to knock over a number of crucifixes, Meltam, and Volmalric. Somehow Slumbara, being at the epicenter of the explosion, does not notice what is going on around him and is mostly annoyed at the reduced number of Meltam's he can kill.
Meltam Perandus is using a Hero Point
Meltam Perandus: Persuade 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 1 [2d20 = 24]
Meltam Perandus: 'Meltam and Meltam: if we who are Meltam are to ever escape from this, One of us must survive to overcome the bat. Since you have all already succumb, surely that means I am the one who must succed where you have failed. Throw down your weapons and magics, you will be free.
Tack (Meltam Perandus): Ultimate transhumanism: Any meltam is as good as any meltam
One of the Meltam's seems to be seriously considering your words. The other one laughs and makes a gesture of warding towards the Meltam who was speaking and both are engulfed in a greenish glow.
Meltam Perandus: Discipline Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 30]

Meltam Perandus: We shall leave in peace but for a vial of bat blood. We bear no ill will for our own selves!
Volmalric: Wait
Meltam Perandus: Let me go into the castle and collect the blood Volmalric. These two Meltams will restrain Slumbara. I must do this alone.
Volmalric: Absolutely not
Volmalric: 100% chance you join these schmucks if you go in there
Meltam Perandus: No sir.
Meltam Perandus: They have the heart of simple Bossonian farmers.
Meltam Perandus: Persuade 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 31]
Volmalric: Meltam, you've been turned countless times against this thing
Volmalric: What are you going to do differently this time?
Meltam Perandus: That remains to be seen.
Slumbara: We could give him these tranquilzers you made earlier
Volmalric: The exploding ones?
Slumbara: Maybe
Meltam Perandus: Only I can obtain the blood of the bat.
Meltam Perandus: If I do not return to you in 1 hour, you can demolish the castle.
Meltam Perandus: How's that?
Slumbara: How would we demolish the castle?
Slumbara: Also, we don't trust you
Meltam Perandus: Did you not see what Volmalric just did?
Meltam Perandus: Meltam, restrain Slumbara.
Slumbara: If Meltam wants to go in there, we should do it the Slumbara way
Slumbara: High on drugs wearing a ball gag
Volmalric: He should
Slumbara: because none of these meltams are wearing a ball gag
Volmalric: Not we
Volmalric: He
Volmalric: Slumbara does have a point
Volmalric: Actually
Meltam Perandus: If it makes you feel beter, Ill go in with wax
Volmalric: Think we can get a ball gag on the Bat Demon?
Volmalric: I feel that would do a lot to mitigate its abilities
Meltam Perandus: You won't find the bat. It takes a keen hunter's eye
Slumbara: Slumbara is the best hunter
Slumbara: And the best at making things bleed
Meltam Perandus: Fine, Metlams, let him in.
Meltam Perandus: GIve him one hour to find and slay the bat.
Slumbara: Why are these meltams listening to you?
Volmalric: I suspect our "bat demon" might be asleep inside
Meltam Perandus: Would't Slumbara listen to Slumbara?
Meltam Perandus: Actually, I don't want to know what Slumbara would do to more Slumbaras
Slumbara: There can only be one Slumbara, the world couldn't handle two
Meltam: Sure, we won't even hold a grudge against him for killing the other 2 of us, I mean, if anything, we should be really pissed at Volmalric about killing six of us.
Volmalric: In my defense, that was an attempt to stun and disable instead of kill
Meltam: But Hell, Volmalric is destined to get a Rian Johnson treatment of Luke Skywalker and turn into a bitter spiteful old guy, stuck here and perpetually being pissed off.
Volmalric: I have no idea why you all burst into flames, that's not supposed to happen
Slumbara: I just think, if Meltam wants to go in there, it should be naked in ball gag (preferably on drugs)
Meltam: Well, it turns out alchemical substances have bad side effects on our physiology. Plus, that flashbang you totally screwed up the ratios on.
Meltam #2: Yeah, remember when the other group showed up a week ago and that Volmalric shoved the flashbang up Slumbara's ass?
Slumbara: Wait, Slumbara has an idea
Slumbara: Observation 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 27]
Meltam: Yeah, we didn't have enough to crucify of that one. Made a nasty crater over on the other side of the fortress until it magically vanished the following sunrise.
Slumbara ties a rope around his waist
Slumbara: Volmalric, come here
Slumbara: Slumbara has a plan
Meltam: Oh gawd. I think Slumbara is going to try the bag trick.
Meltam #2: Kick ass! Make sure you grab the shark that is in the there. The talking one with the prenhensile fins. That thing ate a good dozen of us before it died of asphyxiation.
Slumbara ties a mid running hitch around Volmalric's waist and ties the other end around Meltam's waist
Slumbara: Follw me Volmalric, this way we can all go together
Slumbara climbs into Delia's mystery bag
Slumbara: Athletics 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 32]
Slumbara: Athletics 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 18]
Meltam #2: What about the Khitan Eyeball thing?
Meltam: That one is scary ass.
Volmalric: Meltam, are they making that up?
Meltam Perandus: Now I want to know the full menagere of critters in there!
Volmalric: Athletics 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 25]
Slumbara: Athletics 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 15]
Volmalric resists this plan
Slumbara begins pulling Volmalric into the bag
Volmalric: Slumbara, I do not think there is air in there
Slumbara: Observation 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 26]
Meltam #2: There is not, based on previous Volmalric's responses when ejected from the bag, you enter some sort of alternate dimension where neither time nor existence is fully understood.
Meltam: Sort of like this, but less healthy for your sanity.
Meltam: But have fun!
Meltam shoves Volmalric in the bag!
Volmalric and Slumbara disappear into the bag, leaving Meltam alone with the other Meltams...
Campaign saved.
