When last we left our intrepid merchants turned undead slaying adventures, an evil Acheronian Sorcerer who had possessed the body of the scholar Democles had opened a rift in the floor and the trio fell into a 10 meter deep pit. They also happen to be in some sort of strange demi-plane of skeletal trees, skeletal corpses, and otherwise grey-scale obnoxiousness.

Rhotinia looks around for Democles
Volmalric flails around, gets a few feet into the air, tumbles back into the ground, and generally looks like a completely inept doofus. He also contributes points to the GM's Doom Pool.
Volmalric responds dryling.
Volmalric: "Why thank you, I hadn't realized."
Rhotinia pulls a rope out of her survival kit and tosses it down to Volmalric

Rhotinia and Tilpi throw a rope to Volmalric, who ties it around his waist and starts to carefully climb up the pit, while Rhotinia and Tilpi pull him up. He gets to about the 20' up the cliff point and discovers his dagger is exposed and has been very thoroughly cutting the rope for him, causing it to break and sending him back into the pit. Fortunately, he manages to roll and bounce down the side and take a minor amount of damage from the fall.
GM: Rhotinia considers charging Volmalric for the price of replacement rope...
Volmalric: Okay, I think you two should focus on helping Bridgit
Volmalric: This is taking too long, I'll catch up in a bit
Tilpi: Ok.
Rhotinia: Agreed
Tilpi Turns around without a second thought

As soon as their backs are turned, Volmalric uses SORCERY to levitate himself to the top while cackling maniacally and channeling his inner Meltam.
GM: (Just kidding, but Volmalric does have an epiphany and manages to get to the top of the pit.)
Tilpi: Just give me a moment, out of sight is not out of smell.

Tilpi cannot hide her disbelief

In Rhotinia's non-expert not-a-long distance sprinter opinion, comparing their relative speeds, she expects to catch up to Democles in about 5 minutes given his head start but slower rate of movement.
Tilpi follows Rhotinia's lead.
Rhotinia readies the blinding arrow from Volmalric and looses it at Democlese as soon as she is in range

The group runs within Rhotinia "medium bow range" of Democles and she stops to ready and fire one of Volmalric's special blinding arrows at him. Tilpi grabs her bow and prepares to fire an arrow. Volmalric offers a prayer to Mitra that these women can shoot well, given that Democles is currently walking with Bridgit slung over his shoulder, providing him with a ludicrous amount of "cover" at the risk of hitting the unconscious woman who is blocking most of his torso and the left side of his body.
Rhotinia: Rhotinia does damage with Longbow (2 loads):

Rhotinia's arrow strikes Democles in the head, but it seems that whatever Volmalric did to it to make it "blinding" completely screwed with its ability to both fly as a normal projectile AND strike with any sort of force. She watches in disbelief as the arrow strikes Democles in the back of the head and literally bounces off, but there is a brief flash of white as it strikes and does "something".
Democles sets Bridgit down and turns around to face the group.
Volmalric: Fingers crossed that he's actually using that body
Rhotinia: That was just a warning shot, give us back Democles
Democles: Certainly, as soon as I take care of a few things. Or, we can revisit your option of using your body and letting Democles run free in his normal pants-filling and panicking way.
Rhotinia: Bring it on
Democles shrugs.
Rhotinia: I'm not afraid of some two-bit demon spawn
Volmalric: I'm rather a fan of you heading back to the darkness
Democles: Actually, Acheronian Sorceror. I mostly direct two-bit demon spawn to do my bidding.
Rhotinia tosses her bow to Tilpi
Rhotinia: Big talk, but you still seem to be running away
Tilpi catches gracefully before sending a look of concern to Rhotinia.

Democles panics and flails around for something, but seems to be incapable of moving below the waist.
Rhotinia: Tilpi, come on
Rhotinia gestures for Tilpi to follow her

Rhotinia runs at Democles
Volmalric: Where is the charlatan?
Democles: I'm not letting you....

Democles is clearly talking to Bridgit and paying no attention to anything you are doing.

Five spectral guardians form around Democles, they look like ancient Acheronian soldiers in heavy armor with two-handed swords. He gestures for them to begin viciously chopping at Bridgit, who is unmoving on the ground. Democles evidently still has no capacity for moving any part of his body below the waist.

Tilpi dives into the mess, grabs Bridgit, and with amazing strength manages to heave her up and pull her away from Democles while also ripping her hand from Democles ankle. Bridgit looks at her with wide-eyed terror and starts to say something just as Volmalric throws an exploive object through the air.

Volmalric hurls a glass sphere over Rhotinia and Democles. It lobs high into the air, spinning wildly, and as it comes down between the three spirits it explodes into a flash of light with a bang that those present can also feel. The light cuts into the specters, and their shredded forms struggle to recombine before fading away like smoke
Democles: All right, you win this round, good luck for the second one.
Democles goes limp.
Volmalric: Thank you, we'll take some of that good luck from you and give you some of our bad luck
Volmalric: Tilpi, Rhotinia! Steel yourselves!
Bridgit: Nooo! He's getting away.
Volmalric: Which way, Bridgit?
Rhotinia stops choking Democles
The spectral guardians rush over to follow their master's instructions and stab her a bunch.

Bridgit dives to one side, evading the stabs of the first spirit. The second one lands a blow on her.

The spirit drives its giant two-handed sword through her chest and there is an eruption of greenish light from her. She pukes a glob of blackish ichor and slumps to the ground, her body twitching and spasming.

The spear passes through the creature and it winks out of existence. The spear strikes the petrified tree on the far side and shivers there, vibrating like a tuning fork.
Volmalric pulls out another vial, surveying the "road" ahead and behind the party, looking for a target

Tilpi uses her expert medical skills to try and preserve Bridgit's life. She is so intent on her work that she does not notice the other spirit winding up for a massive hack on the patient.
GM: Meanwwhile, on the beaches of Normandy, "We stopped the bleeding!" Then the artillery shell hits the guy the corpsman was working on.

Tilpi, being the amazingly oblivious and selfless woman she is, moves around to check something on Bridgit and is quite surprised when there is suddenly a large spectral sword that plunges through her back, out of her chest, and into Bridgit under her. Tilpi is quite concerned this could be fatal for her patient, and is mildly annoyed by the amount of damage that was done to her patient.
Rhotinia is entirely certain that Tilpi is so badly injured, she is in shock and has no idea what just happened.
