When last we saw our intrepid adventurers, tuba players, and formerly possessed sorcerers, they had just fled from a scary naval battle featuring sailors, pirates, and web-footed scary creatures that slaughtered both sides.
Unfortunately, their current employer, Delia, appears to have been captured by the sea creatures for who knows what nefarious purpose!
Slumbara: We need to save her before she is raped by fish people
Meltam Perandus: A conundrum. I mean we already know where to look for our objective eh?
Slumbara: Otherwise, who will pay us>
Meltam Perandus: I'm pretty sure those fish people are looking only to satiate hunger. there are other urges Slumbara, funny though that may be for you.
Meltam Perandus: I don't actually feel like we can do much against a whole race of extra-worldly fish people
Slumbara: We can open a sushi restaurant
As they collect their bearings and look around the uncharted island they find themselves at, they notice a few survivors from the pirate ship stumble blearily to shore and look around as their ship is destroyed by the raging, but heavily localized storms.
Volmalric: Lore 2EXP/2FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 25]
Slumbara draws his tuba and approaches the pirates
Pirate: Arrrr! That be a horrible thing! Clearly it be the fault of the tuba player!
Slumbara plays a *Whomp Whomp*
Slumbara: Persuade 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 22]
Volmalric pulls himself up and follows Slumbara
Pirate looks suspiciously at Slumbara, but seems less hostile.
Slumbara: Did your ship get overrun by fish people too?
Pirate: Yes, but clearly the fish people were after you! What did you have?
Volmalric: They attacked you first! What did you have?
Slumbara to meltam
Slumbara: You are usually responsible for bad things, what did you have
Pirate: We are victims of circumstance, this was clearly caused entirely by you!
Slumbara: You were trying to steal our boat
A few more pirates have washed ashore. There are now about 15 of them.
Slumbara: You are luck fish people showed up to rape our employer otherwise Slumbara would have killed you and taken your head as a trophy
Slumbara: like this one
Slumbara holds up his pict head-on-a-rope
Captain Kahero: I am unimpressed by your attempt to threaten myself and my men.
Captain Kahero: However, the Dwellers in the Deep are a bigger threat to both of us than you are. I propose we work together.
Meltam Perandus: I was thinking the same thing Captain.
Slumbara: No, that was not a threat. That was just explaining how you are lucky that no one is paying Slumbara to kill you anymore
Meltam Perandus: I just am at a loss of how exactly we take the fight to them and avenge our respective crews.
Volmalric: I agree. It would be nice to see if we can retrieve what was taken as well, dark creatures like that should be denied their spoils whenever possible
Slumbara: Also, Slumbara is unemployed again at the moment
Slumbara hands Captain Kahero a business card
Captain Kahero: And no one is paying us to kill you, just take a book from your lady friend. When the time comes, we will decide which pay is better.
Meltam Perandus: Pardon the pun, but we are out of our depth here.
Suddenly there is a throbbing and pulsing beat of giant drums in the distant interior of the island.
Slumbara plays *Whomp Whomp* directly into Meltam's face
Slumbara: Persuade 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 16]
Meltam Perandus: Discipline Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 6]
Slumbara: Ooh, a jam session
Slumbara: I am sure they would welcome world renowned tubist Slumbara
Meltam Perandus: as dinnner yes.
Meltam Perandus: So it's man-eating fish or man eating men
Meltam Perandus: HRM
Volmalric: I suspect that's our Dwellers, in the center of the island. We should make our way deeper inland to take care of them before the release the creature trapped in the island itself
Pirate: Both man-eating fish and cannibals seems like a bad combination to fight.
Meltam Perandus: Kahero, let us truce and deal with whatever hell these natives wish to inflict upon us first.
Meltam Perandus: Persuade 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 12]
Slumbara plays hopeful music while Meltam delivers his rousing speech
Slumbara: Persuade 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 33]
Meltam Perandus: Warfare Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 32]
Captain Kahero: I concur.
Captain Kahero: We don't get paid until we get the book to our employer, and you don't get paid until you rescue your employer.
Volmalric: Let's make our way inland, then, and we'll see if we can work out another arrangement for you
Captain Kahero: We shall see.
Captain Kahero: We would cover more ground if we split up. I propose that I send 5 of my guys with each of you. We will sound our hunting horns to stay in contact with each other.
Slumbara: I propose that I walk straight towards them playing the tuba
GM: ...and somewhere... the world imploded because the GM suggested SPLITTING THE PARTY!
Slumbara: And you can hide in the bushes like cowards
Meltam Perandus: Slumbara's plan is best
Volmalric: We don't need to cover ground, you can literally feel the thump of their drums in your bones and that tells us exactly where they're at
Pirate: I hide in NO bush! When I find a bush I have my way with it!
Pirate 2: I think they meant foliage.
Pirate: Oh. You suck, large black tuba playing man.
Slumbara walks directly towards the sound of drums playing the 1812 overture
Slumbara: Persuade 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 22]
Feneril (Slumbara): badly
Meltam Perandus: Stealth 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 1 [2d20 = 28]
Slumbara cannot hear the drums over the sound of his music.
Slumbara pauses briefly to re-orient himself towards the drums
Slumbara: Observation 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 17]
Slumbara thinks the drums are inland. He begins marching towards them, belting out loud music.
The pirates are not sure why Meltalm is holding a palm leaf in front of himself and saying, "You can't see me" but they ignore him.
Slumbara: Observation 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 23]
Volmalric follows after Slumbara, but at a slight distance
About 15 minutes into the jungle, there is a whoosh and a sudden greenish blur as a giant alligator lunges out of the brush and attacks the very loud tuba player and the people nearest him. (But not Meltam, who is hiding.)
Slumbara tackles the gator and attempts to wrassle it to the ground and subdue it
Feneril (Slumbara): In honor of Steve Irwin
Slumbara is using a Hero Point
Alligator: Melee 2EXP/2FOC Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 22]
Slumbara: Persuade 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 15]
Tack (Meltam Perandus): 'Can you not actually eat me?'
Slumbara: Parry 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 13]
Kazemi (Volmalric): "I implore you to reconsider"
Tack (Meltam Perandus): 'Kushites are low in iron'
Slumbara manages to wedge the tuba into the snapping jaws, avoiding a potentially lethal bite and sliding free of his tuba's grasp.
Tack (Meltam Perandus): 'You should conisder a vegetarian diet, it would really bring out the luster of your scales'
Slumbara: Athletics 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 26]
The alligator seems highly annoyed by the crunchiness of the noisy thing.
Slumbara: Animal Handling 4EXP/4FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 22]
Alligator: Parry, Ranged Weapons 2EXP/2FOC Successes = 0 Complications = 1 [2d20 = 39]
Alliagtor rolls a 19 and 20 for the "resist being wrestled" situation.
Alligator decides to give up and rolls over on its belly for some rubbing.
Slumbara: That's a good boy
Slumbara rubs the crocodile's belly
Volmalric: Please ride it into combat
Meltam Perandus: Please use it as an off-hand
Alligator seems content and wanders off if left alone.
Slumbara: Slumbara is friend to animals
Meltam Perandus: Observation 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 26]
Slumbara: This reminds me of when our mare had complications during birth
Meltam Perandus is on the lookout for an ambush, the crocodule was a diversion.
Volmalric: Pardon?
Volmalric: In what way?
Slumbara: Slumbara had to reach into her womb and pull out the baby, the mare did not like it
Slumbara: So Slumbara had to overpower her
Slumbara: and force his mighty arms into her body
Slumbara: Ah, good times
Pirate 2 hurls at the thought of what Slumbara is suggesting.
Pirate looks intrigued and wishes to subscribe to Slumbara's newsletter.
Captain Kahero: Right, so time is wasting and it is approaching night. The Dwellers see excellently in darkness, we do not.
Slumbara: We should light the forest on fire
Meltam Perandus: Yes!
Meltam Perandus: but in a controlled fashion
Meltam Perandus: Survival Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 12]
Meltam Perandus begins pontificating about the proper way to contain a campfire, even usuing non-dried jungle wood
Slumbara: Thanks Smokey bear
Meltam finds suitable material for making a fire in the jungle.
Dweller Shaman: Acrobatics, Stealth Successes = 4 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 4]
Meltam Perandus: Honestly we should have kept that gator for dinner.
GM: Observation test all
Meltam Perandus: Observation 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 2 Complications = 1 [2d20 = 22]
Slumbara: Observation 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 25]
Slumbara is busy cleaning his tuba
Volmalric: Observation Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 34]
Meltam Perandus: I am oddly content to find this moment of tranquility among the maelstrom of violence that has become our lives as of late.
Meltam Perandus: Let us all take this time to appreciate the peace of nature.
Slumbara: What do you mean "of late"?
Slumbara: When has your life not been violent?
Slumbara: You were a hired killer, just like Slumbara
Captain Kahero: Let's be on our way.
Meltam Perandus: I was a soldier, who applies violence as nesssary, not a killer driven by battle-joy
Slumbara laughs
It is currently around 1700 local time, you would assume you have about an hour of light left.
Slumbara resumes his tuba playing and blindly forging ahead through the jungle
Slumbara: Persuade 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 0 Complications = 1 [2d20 = 37]
Volmalric: Let's get moving before we have to worry about night ambushes. Or worse, the island coming to life under us
Pirate: I'm a pirate, dirven by loot, pillage, and rum.
Pirate 2: ARR! That be the life!
Pirate 3: Don't forget wenching!
Pirate 2: ARR! That be the life twice over!
Slumbara: These are all good things
Slumbara: Perhaps pirate would be a good career path for Slumbara
Meltam Perandus: Slumbara might want to ask for an application.
Slumbara: How is the pay?
Captain Kahero: Excellent, you start at getting a full share of all treasure.
Pirate 3: It's a very sensible and communal approach to life.
Dweller Warrior: Ranged Weapons Successes = 4 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 30]
Dweller Warrior: ¦¦ Javelin (R): [4d6 = 11]
GM: Slumbara, make a Resistance check. Observation checks for Meltam and Volmalric.

Slumbara: Resistance 2EXP/2FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 24]

Volmalric: We're under attack!
Meltam Perandus: Defensive Formation!
Slumbara: Where?
Meltam Perandus: Warfare Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 33]
Volmalric raises his shield to cover behind Slumbara
Slumbara: Observation 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 31]
Volmalric: Someone's darted you several times, Slumbara.
Volmalric: You've been poisoned
Slumbara: I feel fine
Slumbara: But just in case
Slumbara examines himself for darts
Slumbara: Observation 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 8]
Volmalric: Observation Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 13]
Meltam Perandus: Observation 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 34]
Volmalric checks himself for darts too
Slumbara: Insight Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 24]
Captain Kahero: Look to the foliage men, we may be in trouble.
Slumbara charges wildly into the bushes behind him while playing a ferocious battle song on his tuba and wielding his sword
Captain Kahero: Scans the area, looking for attackers.
Slumbara: Persuade 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 25]
Slumbara: Observation 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 9]
Meltam Perandus: Ranged Weapons 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 13]
Meltam Perandus: Take that wilderness!
Slumbara: Volmalric, throw some of your cowardly powders over here
Meltam Perandus: Sorcery 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 17]
Volmalric: Unfortunately, I was forced to leave most of that behind with my mule...
Volmalric: This is the best I've got!
Volmalric pulls out a pouch of powder, throwing it in the direction that Slumbara designated
Volmalric: Ranged Weapons 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 18]
Slumbara smashes the pouch with the flat of his sword, spreading the powder over the bushes (assuming it works)
Slumbara: Melee 2EXP/2FOC Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 18]
In a truly epic display of awesomeness, everything works exactly as planned, and a spray of completely benign cinnamon (wait, who packed that!) spreads over the area, outlining 3 humanoid forms.
Slumbara attacks the nearest form
Slumbara: Melee 2EXP/2FOC Successes = 3 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 7]
Slumbara: Die invisible fish-man!
Dweller Warrior: Parry, Ranged Weapons Successes = 0 Complications = 2 [2d20 = 40]
Slumbara: How dare you sneak up on Slumbara like a coward
Invisible fish-man just rolled a 40 to Parry.
Slumbara: Intimidate: (Close-Mental-Stun-2D):, Broadsword: (Reach 2-Parry 1-UNB-5D): [9d6 = 34]
Slumbara: [1d6 = 5]
The head of a fish-man goes sailing through the air and smashes into a form that was not outlined, hard enough that there is a flash of light and a dozen stunned looking red-crested fish-people wondering what is going on.
A catfish headed red-crested fish-man has a look of completel surprise on his face as he stares at the head of the warrior slide down his chest after completely disrupting his concentration and making him lose his spell.
Kazemi (Volmalric): Poor Man's Glitterdust
Meltam Perandus: Foul-creatures!
Meltam Perandus: Melee 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 34]
Volmalric fires an arrow at the catfish headed fishman
Volmalric: Ranged Weapons 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 22]
Meltam Perandus: I knew this whole situation was a bit fishy!
Volmalric: Bow: (Close-2H-Volley-3D): [4d6 = 10]
Feneril (Slumbara): If we weren't in combat I would *Whomp Whomp* that one
Volmalric's arrow stabs into a fish person, who seems slightly annoyed but otherwise unharmed.
Captain Kahero: Die foul fiends!
Captain Kahero charges into a group of them.
Volmalric: Aim for their bulbous fishy eyes!
Pirate hides behind Slumbara.
Pirate 2 hides behind Slumbara.
Pirate 3 hides behind Slumbara.
Captain Kahero: Melee Successes = 4 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 5]
Captain Kahero: ¦¦ Hatchet (M): [5d6 = 10]
Slumbara: Or just chop off their heads
Captain Kahero viciously hacks down 2.
The fish-men give off a high pitched warble in unison and scatter, running in many different directions!
Slumbara tackles the lead fishman to the ground and wrassles him
Slumbara: Athletics 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 30]

Volmalric: Halt, foul fish!
Volmalric's shot passes clean through the knee of one of the fish people, dropping it to the ground.
The other fish people nearby run to it to try and help it up.
Captain Kahero charges into the underbrush after a different fish person.
Pirate continues to hide behind Slumbara.

Meltam Perandus: [2d6 = 7]
Meltam Perandus: You're FINished!
Slumbara: That one is better than the last one
Both of the fish-people trying to help the first one are stunned and knocked to the ground by Meltam's ferocious attack.
One appears to be unconscious while the other is stunned and injured.
Volmalric: C'mon, Kahero! We've already got three of them, pull your weight!
Meltam Perandus: we just schooled them.
Slumbara chases after the fish people and attempts to intimidate them into surrenderring by playing "Thus Spoke Zarathustra" on the tuba
Slumbara: Persuade 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 35]

Meltam decides to chase after the catfish headed one and stabs one of the others near it, tripping it up, then lunges towards the catfish-headed one. It twists to one side and takes the knife from Meltam's hand.
Fish Creature: That is quite enough from you, silly human.
Slumbara: Why are you running away coward fishman?
Slumbara: Come fight slumbara like a man
Meltam Perandus Is shocked the creature can talk
Slumbara: not hiding in the bushes and shooting poison darts
Slumbara: Persuade 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 13]
Fish Creature: We were saving your lives, but if you insist on bravado, I shall be happy to humiliate you.
Volmalric: Please do continue to explain. Saving our lives?
Meltam Perandus: Lore 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 20]
Slumbara: Hah, you don't know Slumbara. I cannot be humiliated
Fish Creature: You were blindly walking towards a summoning ritual where a ferocious entity, which is an enemy of ours, is due to be released.
Slumbara: You shot me with your cowardly darts
Fish Creature: Your deaths trying to attack the summoning ritual would have only made it more powerful.
Fish Creature: Yes, with sleeping darts. Just like your missing comrades and mule. All of which are resting back at the beach.
Slumbara: What missing comrades
Pirate looks around.
Meltam Perandus: 4 pirates.
Slumbara: I just assumed I killed them at some point
Slumbara: And forgot
Volmalric: I honestly didn't count them to begin with
Pirate 3: Hey, where are Bob, Frank, Ted, Bill, Joe, Sam, Eric, Rob, Hank, Aaron, James, and James the Younger?
Pirate 2: I don't know, I'm hiding behind the tuba player.
Slumbara: Well if this thing being summoned is your enemy, then why don't you want Slumbara to destroy it?
Fish Creature: So, now that you have found us and proved hostile, do we fight this out and my warriors and I do not hold back, or do we seek common ground against a mutual foe?
Slumbara: Your story doesn't make any sense fish man
Fish Creature shrugs.
Meltam Perandus: Noble Bottom Dweller, if that be your intention, you shoud have kept us current, such that we may join forces against this foe, rather than succumb to the terrible undertow of suspicion and infighting!
Meltam Perandus: We are Defenders of Hyboria!
Fish Creature: Right.
Meltam Perandus: Lovers of Justice and Peace!
Volmalric: I'm all for seeking common ground and stopping this terrible summons
Meltam Perandus: Persuade 3EXP/3FOC Successes = 2 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 16]
Slumbara: How about you give us back our employer so she can pay us, and Slumbara will help you kill your enemy
Fish Creature: The woman? She is being held by the bluefins. They needed some amulet she carried.
Volmalric: Huh
Volmalric: Interesting, I figured they were after her book
Slumbara: You fish people all look the same to me
Fish Creature: At least, I think the strange mammary glanded ones are females of your species.
Fish Creature: They also smell different. I notice a few of you have a different odor also.
Slumbara: Slumbara has a mighty musk
Pirate 2: I had beans for lunch, does that count?
Volmalric: Some of that might also be the cinnamon
Slumbara: So it sounds like you want us to kill some other different fish people for you
Fish Creature: Yes, killing some other, different fish people would be helpful.
Slumbara: You are in luck, SLimbara is very good at killing people
Slumbara hands the fish creature a business card
Fish Creature: You are also very good at not falling asleep.
Fish Creature takes business card.
The other fish creatures return, Captain Kahero is nowhere to be seen. They gather up the wounded and wait patiently for the catfish elder to decide what to do.
Pirate votes to elect Meltam captain.
Pirate 2 votes to elect Volmalric captain.
Pirate 3 votes to elect Slumbara captain.
Meltam Perandus: Clearly we have a lot to understand about fish monsters as you have much to understand about poncy Zingarans vs the robust Kushites.
Fish Creature: Sure, two legged hairy creatures are very interesting to me.
Meltam Perandus: Our worlds may be different, but we both seek to bring evil to justice!
Fish Creature has a look on his face like the one that would match the expression on the girl behind the Subway counter at GenCon when you explain how cool it was that your character in a Cthulhu one-shot was tentacle-raped in half.
Volmalric: So what is our plan for stopping these blue fins? We humans cannot see well in the dark, so we would be better to hurry
Meltam Perandus: Our plan is to stealth our entire group near their vulnerable magic users and smash them before any foul incantations
Fish Creature: You are well past that stage.
Meltam Perandus: (please say we did not....dammit)
Fish Creature: Also, the tuba player is about as stealthy as a blue whale in heat surrounded by a pod of autistic dolphins.
Slumbara: Slumbara does not hide like a coward
Meltam Perandus: Okay, so we send slumbara through the front door while an elite fish commando squad infiltrates their ritual?
Fish Creature: Very well, I suggest that everyone incapable of stealth follow the tuba player as a disposable distraction while everyone else disrupts the ritual.
Slumbara: Slumbara likes this plan
Meltam Perandus: Aye! Fish-monster and man are not so different now are we?
Volmalric: Slumbara, sometimes it does not have to do with sneaking, and more to do with surprising our enemy with the joys of battle when they least expect it
Volmalric: It is like when you come back and suddenly are at a brothel without expecting it. A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one
Volmalric: Persuade 2EXP/2FOC Successes = 0 Complications = 1 [2d20 = 34]
Slumbara: Discipline 2EXP/2FOC Successes = 1 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 15]
Slumbara: It still sounds like cowardice to Slumbara
Slumbara: I will take the pirates with me to attack them head on
Meltam Perandus: Stealth 1EXP/1FOC Successes = 4 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 2]
Slumbara: And you take the fish people and do cowardly things
Fish Creature: All right, I would like that one (gestures to Meltam) to come with us. We have need of his Lemurian Sorcery to disrupt the ritual. I will send 6 of my warriors with the rest of you.
Meltam Perandus: A done deal!
Meltam Perandus extends a hand
Meltam Perandus: Personality - 8 Successes = 0 Complications = 0 [2d20 = 23]
Fish Creature: Also, one of my warriors is carrying the contents of your baggage mule, you may want to prepare the contents for battle against a large number of incensed piranha heads.
Fish Creature gives Meltam a fist bump.
Campaign saved.
